    Summer in Onomichi

I visited again. Even in the summer heat, many people were sightseeing in Onomichi. This time, I rode the ropeway for the first time—it climbs quickly and feels very thrilling. At a museum along the way to the Hotel, there was an exhibition about cats, which was truly soothing. At the café, I enjoyed sweets with their recommended pairing. Dinner featured a variety of ingredients that paired perfectly with wine. Breakfast was so delicious that I had a second helping of rice. And for the first time, I enjoyed the letter room. Since I used to study calligraphy, time flew by as I wrote various things with a brush pen. It was also fun to see other guests’ creations. Spending summer in Onomichi while sharing different people’s memories was wonderful too.

    Issues can happen, but…

We stayed here for the first night of a trip to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. We reserved two four-bed Rooms, but in one Room water dripped from the air conditioner onto someone’s face while they were sleeping. As a result, two of the four beds could not be used, and we were told that four people ended up sharing the other two beds. In hindsight, we probably should have informed the Hotel right away, but it was late at night and moving—especially with unpacked luggage—felt like too much trouble, so they did not report it at the time. It was an extremely hot day, so air conditioner issues may happen; however, I was somewhat surprised by how subdued the staff’s response was when we reported it. At check-out we received an apology along with a boxed confectionery gift, but considering we spent the night cramped together in a Room we had been looking forward to, I felt this response may not have been adequate. As for dinner, most of the ingredients in the bouillabaisse labeled “Onomichi” were imported. Since guests come expecting something unique to Onomichi, I think it would be better to use local ingredients—even if that means the contents change depending on what is available. Breakfast also seemed to aim for a healthy meal inspired by simple Zen temple cuisine, but honestly it may have been too minimal. The view from our four-bed Room was also disappointing; overgrown tree branches blocked much of the scenery. Regarding my rating: perhaps my expectations for this Hotel were high, which made the gap feel even larger. I’m sorry these comments are so critical. That said, the Facility has been beautifully renovated—a lovely balance of retro and simplicity. The loungewear looked a bit thick and I thought it might feel hot at first, but even on such a hot day it was very comfortable to wear. The indoor slippers were also wonderful—I wanted to buy them as souvenirs. I would love for you to sell both your loungewear and slippers. Finally, I wish you continued success with your Hotel.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

The Room was clean, the view was great, and we really enjoyed the delicious meals. All of the staff were very pleasant. However, the toothbrush was too hard and hurt my gums, so I would like a softer one, and it was disappointing that there was no hand-washing sink in the toilet.

Premium Service and a Satisfying Stay

Our family of six stayed for one night. This time, my father—over 90—wanted to enjoy the Shimanami Kaido, so we searched for the best place and found this Accommodation with stunning views and delicious-looking meals, and made a Reservation. It turned out to be absolutely the right choice. The refined space is spacious, comfortable, and perfect for relaxing. The Onomichi scenery seen from the large windows and rooftop terrace is beyond words. And the food—beautifully combining local ingredients—was truly outstanding. We all said, “We should have stayed two nights.” One small point: there is no handwashing sink in the in-room toilet, so you have to go out to the washbasin area, which is why I would rate it a 4 in that respect. The staff’s high-quality service and warm smiles were also memorable. We would love to stay here again.

It was a wonderful Hotel where you can fully enjoy Onomichi.

At my family’s request, we wanted to stay in Onomichi, so we asked in advance for a birthday cake for our child. It was a wonderful stay. Thank you very much. The cake had a gentle flavor, and the staff came to celebrate with us, creating a warm atmosphere. The view from the Room was amazing, and the meals featured local ingredients—we enjoyed plenty of fresh seafood. Although the weather was often rainy, they advised us on how to walk around the area while watching the weather and provided guidance on nearby stations, so we were able to visit most of the places we wanted to see.

It feels like staying at an observation deck.

A Room with breathtaking views overlooking the Onomichi Channel. With large glass windows on all four sides, it feels like staying in an observation deck! The meals were delicious too—rice cooked in a clay pot was fluffy and tasty. The only downside was the bath: no outside view, and it felt old. I thought I wouldn’t even need to go out of my way to use the public bath, so I decided to use the in-Room bath instead, but the bathtub felt rough. I first tried cleaning it with a towel, but there was no bathroom cleaner, so I gave up. It was disappointing because the view, food, and staff service were all great.

    This is my third visit.

Although it was the rainy season, we were lucky to have good weather this time. They remembered our previous stays, and check-in was smooth and comfortable. Dinner—featuring citrus flavors, kelp broth, anago rice, and more—was all so delicious that I forgot to take photos because I couldn’t wait to start eating. Each dish also warmed my heart with its kindness. Wearing sneakers for an evening stroll and enjoying Onomichi’s scenery—and the Hotel—from various viewpoints in the distance has a special charm. As one light after another came on at dusk, I felt the presence of everyday life and found myself wanting to cherish every single moment as time passed.

    Stunning views

A Hotel renovated from the former Senkoji Sanso. All staff were kind, and both the large public bath and the Room were comfortable. My mother became unwell on the day of departure, and I truly appreciate your help. We will stay with you again when we visit our family grave. Thank you very much. The meals were also delicious.

    We were welcomed wit...

We were welcomed with a welcome drink and sweets in a lounge with a great view. The Room overlooking the townscape of Onomichi and the sea was very comfortable. For dinner, we enjoyed fresh local vegetables, meat, and fish. Everything looked beautiful and tasted wonderful. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of dishes, which we really enjoyed. I regret not trying the coffee brewed by the famous barista... next time for sure!

I fully enjoyed the scenic views of Senkoji Temple, the nostalgic Showa-era Onomichi Channel, and the hillside townscape.

The Accommodation is a new-concept Hotel renovated from the former Senkoji Sanso. The facilities, designed for inbound and younger travelers, were clean, and I really appreciated the comfortable lobby and the friendly hospitality of the staff. On the other hand, the indoor areas felt somewhat cramped, and I sensed that renovation costs may have limited improvements to the large public bath. In the guest room as well, including the air conditioning, I found overall comfort a bit lacking. To reiterate, I expect things could change depending on how accommodation pricing is set going forward. Also worth mentioning is that a female staff member’s thoughtful attention and warm smile made this trip a wonderful memory. I left without asking her name, but whether at the restaurant or front desk, such kind and friendly hospitality with heartfelt smiles feels like an important asset for Onomichi Club. Thank you very much for everything.

    Stay with us.

Dinner was average, but breakfast was good. There was no TV in the room, so it did feel a bit boring. The night view was also average and didn’t meet my expectations. There were too few directions to the Hotel, so I missed it. All the staff were well trained and wonderful—I was truly impressed.

    Stunning views and excellent meals.

We stayed as three couples who were classmates. The roads in Onomichi are narrow, and the Hotel signage was hard to see from the driver’s seat, so we had to make several U-turns before finally arriving. From the Hotel, we could see a bridge on the Shimanami Kaido, and the view was outstanding. Dinner was delicious—oyster tempura, seafood bouillabaisse, oyster rice cooked with broth, and more—and everyone was very satisfied. Breakfast was also tasty and just as satisfying as dinner. If we have the chance, we would like to stay again.

A Hotel in Onomichi You’ll Want to Visit Again—Senkoji Sanso Reimagined Through Renovation

Senkoji Sanso has been beautifully renovated with a modern touch. [Outstanding hospitality] Most impressive of all was the staff’s thoughtful attention to detail. Y, originally from Taiwan, was wonderfully kind, and O provided thorough support by email in advance. Thanks to their warm hospitality, it became a truly memorable stay. [Dining and bar time] The bouillabaisse as the main dish at dinner was exceptional, packed with rich seafood flavor. The original cocktails at the bar were also outstanding—made even more special by the stunning night view from there. I hope to see an even deeper wine selection in the future. Breakfast was a healthy Japanese set meal that really highlighted how delicious the rice and miso soup were. The portion size was just right even for light eaters, and it felt genuinely nourishing. [Modern Rooms and Facilities that make use of the original building] There is no TV in the Room, which is a luxurious design choice that lets you focus on simply taking in Onomichi’s scenery. While preserving what made the original building appealing, the space is unified with simple modern interiors and feels very calming. The bath area has also been renovated, allowing us to enjoy bathing along with an excellent view. The provided all-in-one skincare gel felt great to use and added to the comfort (bringing your own brush is recommended). [A small point of concern] Given how refined the dinner atmosphere is, it was a bit disappointing to see some groups arriving in loungewear. Avoiding pajamas at mealtimes might further elevate this Hotel’s overall sense of quality. Overall, I feel this renovation has transformed it into a wonderful Hotel where you can rediscover what makes Onomichi so special—an Accommodation I would definitely like to visit again.

    We stayed in a suite...

We stayed in a suite. Since the cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom, we were able to make a very affordable Reservation for a two-meal Plan. The location was excellent—we could walk to the observation deck, and above all, the view from the Room was outstanding. The bath in the Room was a unit bath, so we used the large public bath. It’s not an Onsen and there is no open-air bath, but it was kept clean and we thought it was very nice. The restaurant service was professional, well-timed, with an appropriate portion size, and everything tasted great. It would be nice if breakfast also offered a Western option. Amenities are provided in a pick-what-you-need style; since we don’t use much even when they’re in the Room, we thought this was a good initiative. Because we forgot to close the Room window, I got bitten by mosquitoes at night even though it was still March—so be careful in summer. Overall there isn’t excessive service, but the young female staff member at check-in was courteous, and we felt that younger staff were working hard. We are an older couple enjoying life to the fullest after my husband’s retirement and still have many places we want to visit; this was a good Hotel where we would like to stay again if we have the chance.

    The view overlooking...

The view overlooking the Onomichi Channel is stunning—you could gaze at it forever. The cuisine, made with local ingredients, is exceptionally delicious, and they were very attentive in accommodating ingredients I don’t eat. It was a truly comfortable Accommodation.\nHowever, I was disappointed that the books shown in the photos were not placed in the Room’s study, and I think it would have been even better if there had been written instructions for the amenities and other items.

A Hotel where you can truly relax.

Located high above Senkoji Temple, the Hotel offered stunning views and a refined, relaxing atmosphere. From the welcome drink onward, the staff were kind and attentive, making our stay truly comfortable. The cuisine was beautifully presented in harmony with the tableware—delightful to the eye and absolutely delicious; we were completely satisfied. After checkout, they kindly stored our luggage, and when we returned to the Hotel after sightseeing, we were deeply impressed by the tea service. We are grateful for every thoughtful gesture that helped us unwind.

The view was great. Other than that, it felt about average, and I don’t think I would stay again. Still, considering the price, they’re doing a good job.

    The suite offers spectacular views.

The photos I saw on the site were so beautiful, and the suite was on sale, so I stayed in a suite. The view was exactly as expected—absolutely spectacular—and I happily spent the afternoon relaxing in the Room. Honestly, it’s expensive. But compared with other Hotels, prices overall have become ridiculously high, so I suppose it can’t be helped. The main staff member who assisted us seemed to be a non-Japanese speaker with excellent Japanese, and their attentiveness was truly outstanding. After checkout, when I asked if I could have an online meeting in the lobby area, they prepared an available Room for me. When I asked about taking a bus across to the Shikoku side, they even brought me a copied timetable. The rooftop bar—unfortunately it rained—but even so, both the night view and the bar itself were beautiful, and we had a wonderful time.

    The view is amazing.

This was my first stay here. The view of Onomichi city from the Room was wonderful both day and night. It is close to Senkoji Temple, and I think the scenery would be especially beautiful during cherry blossom season. The staff were very helpful and kindly provided detailed information about sightseeing. The meals were also delicious. However, it was disappointing that I couldn’t reach the Accommodation without taking a taxi from Onomichi Station, and I wish there had been a Shuttle Service. I heard it used to be a mountain lodge, and while it has been nicely renovated, for some reason all of the toilets still felt old. I recommend renovating them as well.

    The best among Onomichi’s Hotels!

This was the most comfortable stay I’ve had among the Hotels in Onomichi. I stayed overnight after stopping by Onomichi on my way back from a business trip, and the Room was spacious and cozy. The view from the window was soothing, and I was able to truly relax. It was a cold day with light snow during my stay, but they arranged a taxi smoothly, and at checkout they even provided hand warmers. I really appreciated their thoughtful care. I used a Plan with breakfast included, and everything was delicious. Even on a cold morning, it helped me start the day feeling refreshed. Overall, I was extremely satisfied, and next time I’d love to stay again during cherry blossom season.

Impressed by the Scenery and Hospitality

A delightful stay with attentive explanations at check-in, thoughtful service at the bar, stunning views from the room, and enjoying lattes and cakes while overlooking the Onomichi Waterway from the café. The sunrise I saw after a morning bath thanks to a kind word from the front desk was breathtaking. The breakfast, filled with local ingredients, was truly satisfying. This accommodation is a newly renovated property of Senkoji Sanso as of last year. Both the rooms and interiors are fresh and comfortable. While you can feel some age in the tiles of the large public bath—perhaps intentionally left for a retro touch—the changing area has been renovated to be bright and clean. The water temperature was perfect, allowing me to enjoy three baths during my stay. The café's barista is reportedly a world champion in latte art! After checking out, I savored an incredibly delicious latte before reluctantly leaving. They even gave me a hand warmer for my journey home on that chilly day—a warm gesture that stayed with me all the way back home. I look forward to visiting again during cherry blossom season!

The most recommended accommodation in Onomichi!

I stayed at the accommodation on December 31st. Although there was an issue with dinner upon arrival, the staff promptly addressed it. The staff member who assisted us explained everything very politely, which I greatly appreciated. Most of the staff members are young and very cheerful, making for a pleasant experience. Both dinner and breakfast featured a variety of dishes made with local ingredients, allowing us to enjoy every bite without getting bored. While the building itself is not new—such as the elevator showing its age or having a combined toilet and shower room with limited space for makeup—the guest rooms have been beautifully renovated and provided a comfortable environment. The bath area includes a large public bath with Onsen water, which I highly recommend trying. Starting 2026 by visiting Senkoji Temple was truly wonderful. If you're visiting Onomichi, I highly recommend staying at Onomichi Club!

    Delicious meals

Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with excellent quantity and quality, leaving us very satisfied. The location is great as it is very close to Senkoji Park, but being on a hilltop, walking down towards the station required some physical effort.

It was an accommodation with a great view, but it was disappointing that there were no explanations from the staff.

The night view and morning scenery of the Onomichi Channel were incredibly beautiful and wonderful. The Room was comfortable and relaxing, making for a very pleasant stay. Onomichi is such a lovely town, and I would love to visit again. One disappointing aspect was that there was no explanation about various things in the Facility during check-in; we had to figure everything out on our own. For example, we only discovered the complimentary nighttime snack because our Room happened to be right in front of the bar, where we saw others eating something and asked about it. There was also no guidance regarding the bath or loungewear, which we found out later on our own. While staff were helpful when asked, nothing would have been clear without asking first. It would be greatly appreciated if at least basic information—such as the location of the bath or details about bar services—could be explained during check-in for better convenience.

    Fully equipped with all essentials.

I have visited Senkoji Sanso twice. The facility remains unchanged, but the interior has been renovated. Before dinner, I walked to Senkoji Temple and experienced the unique slopes of Onomichi. From the room, I enjoyed the sunset, night view, and sunrise while appreciating the distinctive geography of Onomichi Waterway. The quality of food and drinks was high with a sense of storytelling, and each dish was satisfying. Everything necessary for a one-night stay is provided. The black coffee at the café was delicious; I had two cups upon arrival. Personally, they celebrated my birthday for me, making it a memorable occasion. Staying in Onomichi—a place loved by literary masters—allowed me to slowly take in its changing scenery and deeply realize how it inspires creativity.

    Hospitality for Your Cherished Friends

To celebrate my move to Onomichi, my friends, who hadn’t visited this area before, gathered for the first time in 10 years. I chose an accommodation with breakfast included so they could fully enjoy the beautiful scenery. From check-in, we were welcomed with a relaxing view of the picturesque Onomichi Channel while enjoying Japanese black tea and hassaku pie—a perfect start to what promised to be a wonderful trip. The comfort room for four people, complete with a small tatami seating area, was highly praised by everyone. After dinner, we returned to the accommodation and enjoyed drinks at the rooftop bar with stunning night views. We were delighted by a complimentary dessert plate featuring chocolate illustrations of cats and a warm welcome message! The elegant morning bath was refreshing, and breakfast featured specially cultivated rice from Sera that was incredibly delicious. Side dishes included local delicacies from Onomichi served in small bowls alongside grilled Setouchi fish marinated in Saikyo miso. After breakfast, we leisurely browsed through the stylish shop inside the facility until it was time for check-out. Later on our Shimanami drive together, everyone couldn’t stop raving about how amazing the accommodation was—it truly helped us reconnect after so many years apart. Thank you so much for your exceptional hospitality!

    The view was excellent.

We rented a car to get there, and although we were initially worried about driving up the mountain, the view was absolutely stunning. We booked a room with breakfast only because we wanted to visit local shops, but it was quite difficult as they were not within walking distance without a car. The staff were all very kind, and it was convenient that we could walk to Senkoji Temple. We reserved a triple room for three adults, but there were four beds and even a relaxing space in the back where we could unwind comfortably. However, please note that the room does not have a TV or telephone.

The meals were excellent in presentation, taste, and portion. They were very delicious. As the Ryokan is a renovated old building, there were some areas that felt slightly outdated, but the staff's courteous service made for a pleasant stay. It was a bit disappointing that the bathroom in the Room was slightly small.

    Comfortable Stay

It was a comfortable stay. The Room was spacious and cozy, with an amazing view. The public bath was clean and pleasant, and the complimentary ice candy service was a delightful touch. We stayed here for 2 nights with a breakfast-included Plan, and the menu on the second day had some variety—both breakfasts were delicious. The welcome drink and sweets were also tasty, but unfortunately, we didn’t realize they were available for purchase at the Hotel café. We would love to stay here again next time!
