    The hospitality was wonderful.

Thank you sincerely for your wonderful hospitality and for allowing us to spend such a lovely time at your Ryokan. The kappo cuisine was served in an ice bowl, and even a maple leaf was placed on top of the hand towel—an experience we had never had before. Every part of the Facility was outstanding, and we were truly moved. We were especially impressed by the exceptionally high level of hospitality shown by your staff. We would love to visit again in the winter season. I am very sorry to mention this, but there were a few points that concerned me. Only the shelf/platform area above the bed had an unusual amount of dust, so I cleaned it myself because it bothered me. It was dusty enough that it felt as though it had not been wiped for nearly a month. Also, there was brown buildup/slime around the drain area of the washbasin, which also concerned me, so I cleaned that as well. One more thing: when we were first shown to our Room by a young attendant, her mobile phone appeared to be decorated with silver embellishments and was sticking out from her obi sash, which caught my attention. I do not feel that a sparkling/decorated phone is appropriate for a luxury Ryokan. Aside from the cleaning points and the attendant’s sparkling phone, everything was perfect and this was a truly wonderful Ryokan. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart. Thank you very much.

Because the Accommodation is wonderful, it was disappointing in terms of service.

The Facility and amenities were impeccable, the Room and overall atmosphere were wonderful, and the meals were truly delicious. I am very satisfied with the Facility and cuisine. On the other hand, what was extremely disappointing was the coordination and operations among the staff. Dinner was scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and we were told, “We will come to pick you up at your Room 10 minutes beforehand,” but no one came even when it was time; they only responded after we contacted them. Meanwhile, a staff member who seemed to be assigned to lay out the futons during dinner came while we were still in the Room, which made it feel like information had not been shared properly. There were also issues with the meals: at dinner, the salt that was explained as an accompaniment was not provided, and at breakfast, one serving of nori seaweed was missing. The next morning as well, we went to the breakfast venue at our reserved time but could not start on time. When I gave our Room number written on the key at reception, I was told they “couldn’t confirm it” and had to wait; even after being shown to our seats, we had to wait again. When I asked why, I was told that on their side they manage Rooms by “Room name” rather than by number. Honestly, I was surprised by a system where they could not verify a guest using the Room number printed on the key provided by the Accommodation. Each mistake may be small on its own, but when so many happen in a row it raises concerns about information sharing and their confirmation process itself. It was also disappointing that there wasn’t much of an apology or follow-up when problems occurred. Among all Ryokan I have stayed at so far, this service experience felt like one of the most disappointing. I was also surprised that an additional bottle of water costs 900 yen. I don’t mind paying for it in principle, but considering this Accommodation Fee it feels questionable. This time we chose a top-tier Room category; however, with this level of service it made me feel that next time choosing a lower category might be sufficient. Even so, the Facilitys ,Room ,and cuisine are truly excellent—this is an Accommodation I would like to stay at again. That is exactly why it feels such a shameful gap compared with service quality ,and i hope coordination among staff members operations will improve going forward .

We had a very comfortable stay. The building has a stylish Japanese-modern design, and the food was delicious. The staff who welcomed us were very kind, shared various stories with us, and were friendly and reassuring. The staff assigned to our Room were also very kind. If I had to mention one thing, I wish the view from the bath in the Room had been better.

Please don’t leave sweat behind in the gym, and please don’t provide smelly wet towels.

    - One treadmill was out of order because a previous gym user left it soaked with sweat. We saw someone working out and sweating heavily when we visited the gym, so we have an idea who it was, but please do not allow this to be left unattended. - The wet towel provided at mealtime smelled, so we asked for a replacement, but the replacement also smelled. It ruined the appeal of what is otherwise an excellent Facility and Room that must have cost a lot to build. We will visit again, so please make improvements.

A Trip to See Mount Fuji

This trip was to show my mother Mt. Fuji. I had visited Gora Kadan in Hakone before, but this was my first time here. On the taxi ride from Mishima, the driver didn’t know about the property, so we made our way using Google Maps on a smartphone. I was a little worried we might not make it, but we arrived safely. When we arrived, it suddenly turned from cloudy skies to a thunderstorm, so we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji at first. Little by little the contours appeared, and by sunset we were able to see the whole mountain. At night, the many lights worn by climbers lined up on the mountain and it was beautiful as well. Mt. Fuji in the morning was also spectacular. All of the staff provided wonderful service with warm smiles. Both the Room and the bath were excellent, and the Japanese cuisine served in our Room was very delicate and perfectly suited to my taste. The portion size was just right for me as well. After returning home, I realized I had left behind a souvenir you kindly gave me in the Room. When I called to ask if you could send it cash on delivery, you gladly took care of it and even shipped it prepaid instead. I was truly touched by your thoughtfulness—and I am very sorry for my mistake. It seems there are various Room types available, so I would love to visit again and try a different one next time. Thank you very much.

I was dissatisfied with the email and phone support.

As others have mentioned before (and it still hasn’t improved), email replies are unbelievably slow. I only received a response to my initial inquiry 13 days later, after I followed up. There was a brief apology, but after that they stopped replying again… so I ended up calling. In this situation, it would leave a better impression to remove the email address and handle inquiries by phone only. Also, something I was told could be done by email was said to be impossible over the phone. After “I’ll check,” I was eventually told it could be done after all, but there was no apology. It made me feel uneasy and uncomfortable, as if decisions depended on personal discretion. The person on the phone was a foreign woman, and even from her tone she sounded tired; it didn’t feel welcoming at all. I arrived on the day of my stay still feeling upset, but once I actually stayed there, everyone else was very pleasant. That made me feel it’s such a shame—because one person’s attitude can strongly shape the impression of an Accommodation for better or worse. With such a great location and well-equipped Facilities, this kind of Ryokan is hard to find. The overall sense of grandeur throughout the Accommodation was wonderful as well.

    By season

I stayed with my elderly mother. The Accommodation has just entered its second year since opening, and it was impressively clean and well maintained. All the staff provided pleasant, attentive service. The kaiseki meal was very elaborate and delicious. Since it was summer, we could only view Mt. Fuji from sunrise until 8:00 a.m., but it was wonderful to see it up close. What disappointed us was that the in-Room bath is not an Onsen, there were no drinks in the post-bath lounge other than cold tea during evening hours, and there is no garden or area to take a walk around the Ryokan. I would like to visit again in a different season.

The operations are far too sloppy, but the Facility is excellent.

The Facility and amenities were perfect. However, what we had shared in advance was not communicated to other staff at all, and our dinner course was incorrect. The apology was vague as well. It seemed no one understood what had happened or who was responsible. If we hadn’t noticed and spoken up, we likely would have been charged for an expensive special Plan but served a standard kaiseki course instead. For breakfast, multiple staff members asked us three separate times, yet in the end we received one Western-style meal and one Japanese-style meal even though both of us had chosen Japanese… At that point I just gave up and ate without saying anything. Also, despite reserving the best Room, our seating at the dining venue felt careless both at dinner and breakfast. Communication from some foreign staff members was unclear. We came to enjoy a top-tier experience, but although the facilities were excellent, the human side of service was disappointing. The Facility and Room were truly great overall. Facilities/Accommodation: 100 points; service: below 30 points. If improved, I think this could become a very good Accommodation. I normally don’t write Reviews like this, but the customer service was simply too poor.

Right in front of Mt. Fuji

It was a three-generation trip. We were truly impressed that we could see Mt. Fuji both from the Room and from the bath. Perhaps because we’ve gotten used to all-inclusive stays these days, it felt a bit disappointing that there were no welcome sweets at check-in, no complimentary drinks in the refrigerator, and nothing in the public bath area besides water and tea. There’s also no convenience store nearby, so when we got hungry at night, there was nothing to eat. If we had known, we would have stopped by a convenience store beforehand and brought something with us. We also had to wait quite a while at check-out, so having tea or something available in the lobby would have made it more comfortable to wait. That’s how Ryokan used to be when I was a child. It was nice that this Ryokan—unusually—had both a gym and a pool. Breakfast felt average for both Japanese and Western options. I ordered the Western set, but the bread never came—it seemed they forgot. I think the real value is being right in front of Mt. Fuji; everything else was fairly ordinary.

    High quality in every aspect.

Thank you again for your wonderful hospitality. Unlike last time, we were able to admire many different faces of Mt. Fuji, and it was an unforgettable experience that filled us with happiness. We were simply amazed by this flawless Accommodation—from the spotless Room and heartfelt service to every dish—and we are sure that not only Japanese guests but also international visitors will come to love Japan even more.

This stay exceeded all expectations—everything was wonderful. The one-year-old Facility and Room felt new and refreshing, making it comfortable and relaxing. Needless to say, the view was stunning, but the garden connecting the scenery and the building was also exceptional. Unfortunately, on the first day it was cloudy and we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji, but the beautifully maintained greenery of the garden was soothing. The cuisine was also beyond expectations: the soup had a rich bonito aroma and was truly delicious, and even the signature tuna cutlet was far more refined than I had imagined. Even the sweets were crafted with great care—an unexpectedly impressive dish. What impressed me most during my stay was the outstanding hospitality. In our Room there was a welcome message card from the proprietress, and true to its words—“from all of us with heartfelt sincerity”—everyone we encountered, including the Shuttle Service driver, our guide to the Room (a staff member from Nepal), and all staff who served us at dinner and breakfast in the dining area, showed professionalism and thoughtful attention that made us very happy. It also felt symbolic of this wonderful stay that for a few hours early in the morning at checkout time, the sky cleared completely and we were able to see Mt. Fuji in its majestic form stretching out at its base. I would love to visit again to see Mt. Fuji capped with snow as well.

Was it mainly for inbound travelers? It was a top-tier Accommodation.

Having opened just last year, the Facility and Room were still brand-new, and I enjoyed a refreshing sense of luxury. Most of the guests were international visitors, but the meals were excellent, making great use of local ingredients. The only disappointment was that while dinner was in a private room, breakfast was at a table in a large shared dining room, and I had to listen to loud Chinese from the next table first thing in the morning, which gave me a headache. It’s difficult to know how to handle situations like that—you can’t exactly ask someone to move to a private room during their meal. It really made me feel how challenging Japan’s tourism industry is now and will be going forward with its strong focus on inbound travel.

    Everything was impressive—absolutely perfect.

As it has only been a year since opening, the Facility was extremely clean, including the large public bath. In addition, the service was outstanding. We could truly feel their spirit of hospitality, and their heartfelt care made us feel very welcome. We visited with our 4-year-old child, and they were kind to our child as well. We are grateful that they accommodated various requests for meals to suit our preferences. We have stayed at many luxury Ryokan and visited famous Onsen across Japan, but in a sense—considering value for money as well—this was the best. We will definitely visit again.

Gotemba, right in front of Mt. Fuji. An Accommodation that exceeds expectations.

Located in Gotemba, this property faces the eastern side (southern face) of Mt. Fuji head-on. In terms of positioning relative to Mt. Fuji, this feels like one clear right answer. All rooms face Mt. Fuji, and even the standard rooms offer a generous 79 m² of space. The interiors are based on Japanese design reminiscent of a Kyoto Ryokan, carefully integrating modern comfort throughout. There is a choice between stone baths and wooden baths, both of excellent quality. Dining comes in three options: Japanese cuisine, teppanyaki, or sushi. This time I chose Japanese cuisine; the presentation was exceptionally beautiful, with modern interpretations thoughtfully woven in throughout. The overall execution is outstanding. The Facility offerings are also extensive: a pool with an indoor bath area plus an outdoor section, two large public baths with different views, a lounge, and a gym equipped with the latest Life Fitness machines. It’s rare to find this level of gym equipment at a Ryokan. Service is at a level that could fairly be called among the best in Japan. English support is generally smooth, striking an exquisite balance—anticipating what guests need without ever being intrusive. The Mt. Fuji view depends on luck. I visited during the rainy season; only for two hours in the morning did the summit reveal itself. In that moment, I truly felt it was worth the wait—an once-in-a-lifetime view.

    Hospitality

From the moment we arrived by car in front of the Ryokan, the hospitality was outstanding. Perhaps because the Ryokan is new, our Room was very clean, and the in-room bath was wonderful. In particular, at night, the lighting in the garden right in front of the large public bath made it feel as if it continued deep into a forest—it was truly impressive. Since we were traveling with children, we chose to have dinner served in our Room, and the meal was excellent. We are also grateful for the Shuttle Service to a nearby convenience store at night in a LEXUS LM. The only disappointment was that what seemed to be a centrally controlled air conditioner did not work well; it was cold at night, and even after switching to heating, it barely warmed up—this was the only negative point. Still, this is definitely an Accommodation we would like to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    It was a beautiful Hotel.

Although Hakone felt a bit far, I thought I could manage a trip to see Mt. Fuji, and that’s how I was able to visit Gora Kadan. From check-in to the Facility guidance on the way to our Room and the in-room explanation, the service was outstanding throughout. The welcome matcha and nerikiri sweets were delicious and soothed our travel fatigue. The Room was beautifully appointed—traditional yet highly functional—and the view of Mt. Fuji was spectacular. My husband said the sauna in the large public bath was especially great. I’m not a big eater, so I was a little worried about dinner, but everything was delicious and the portions were just right. The staff member who took care of us was also very pleasant, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Since we like to enjoy the bath in our Room, it was wonderful that three bath towels per person were provided. There’s also a towel warmer, which gave us peace of mind—most hotels provide only two towels each, so this really felt like Gora Kadan quality. The amenities were excellent as well. We truly had a comfortable stay until check-out. Even after returning home, we already wanted to go back—so we went ahead and made a Reservation for a different type of Room during the autumn foliage season. We’re genuinely looking forward to visiting again in fall.

    Overall, I was satisfied!

This is a new and very beautiful Accommodation. The guest room felt luxurious, and the bath was wonderful. Surprisingly, there was a proper pool as well, so we were able to relax throughout our stay. The meals were delicate and delicious, and next time I’d love to enjoy teppanyaki too. About half of the guests were from overseas, but many seemed familiar with how to use the Onsen, and I also appreciated that the overall atmosphere was calm. One area for improvement would be staff service. Most of it was good, but there were a few points that concerned me. First, when using the pool, an international staff member assisted us by phone. I could tell they were being polite, but even after explaining the same thing several times, they didn’t seem to understand well. With many international guests this may be unavoidable, but it felt a bit odd that we had to interpret their intent ourselves. Also at dinner, someone who was clearly new guided us and seemed inexperienced. Drinks were served and since it was an anniversary we were making a toast when they interrupted immediately to serve the first dish. The explanation of the dishes was too quiet to hear, and although we had requested a birthday plate, we were asked “Whose birthday is it?” Overall everyone was polite and not unpleasant at all, but these things stood out slightly. I’ve written some minor details here, but overall we were very satisfied in every other respect. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

We had a very satisfying stay.

We were greeted upon arrival, and it was our first time experiencing valet parking, so we felt a bit nervous from the moment we reached the entrance (lol). As the Accommodation has been open for less than a year, everything inside felt new and impeccably clean. The weather was great that day, so we could see Mt. Fuji beautifully—an Accommodation with truly wonderful views. We stayed to celebrate my parent’s birthday. For dinner, we chose the counter kappo dining experience; watching the dishes being finished right in front of us made it enjoyable not only for the taste but also for the eyes. Thank you very much for preparing a surprise gift as well. We would definitely like to stay again.

    Savor a Luxurious Stay

We stayed here to relax for my wife’s birthday. Gora Kadan is our favorite Accommodation, and when we heard during our stay last year for our wedding anniversary that the new “Gora Kadan Fuji” had opened, we made a Reservation right away. It’s a wonderful Accommodation where you can enjoy a rich, unhurried time while gazing at Mt. Fuji. The staff’s manners are just as impeccable as at Gora Kadan, so you can relax with complete peace of mind.

    A Wonderful View and Space

I gifted this stay to my parents for their birthdays. We had high expectations for Gora Kadan Fuji after a wonderful previous visit to Gora Kadan Hakone, and it ended up far exceeding them. The location, views, atmosphere, and service were all impeccable—truly a five-star experience. In particular, the refined modern Japanese luxury design was incredibly comfortable and made our time feel truly special. Perhaps due to inbound tourism, more than half of the guests were international visitors, but everyone was courteous, and we were able to relax in a calm and pleasant environment. There were only a few Japanese groups staying as well. This is an Accommodation I would highly recommend to anyone seeking high-quality modern Japanese style and an exceptional sense of time and space. I would love to return again soon.

I’d love to stay here again.

Opened last July, this Accommodation has already earned many high-rated Reviews—and it truly lives up to expectations. You can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji from each Room and from the baths as well. We chose in-room dining and were able to savor delicious kaiseki cuisine at a relaxed pace—it was a blissful time. We would love to visit again in a different season.

Birthday Celebration at Gora Kadan Fuji

When we visited Gora Kadan last year, we heard that Gora Kadan Fuji would be opening soon, so we celebrated my wife’s birthday there. Right in front of us was Mt. Fuji topped with a large cap of snow, and we could also enjoy the view from the indoor hinoki bath. She was truly delighted.

    Perfect.

I’ve never given a perfect score to any Accommodation before, but this one deserves nothing less than full marks. The moment you step into the building, the scent of sandalwood; the lobby with a softly flickering fireplace; the corridors that evoke Gora; and a Room with plenty of space—everything is beautiful and flawless. It may be because it’s newly opened, but it truly feels perfect. The baths are just as impressive: an open, spacious public bath that also brings Gora to mind, an outdoor bath where you can fully enjoy the view, and even a sauna. The in-room bath is also wonderfully open—you can fully slide open the glass doors in front of it. Outstanding. There’s even a gym to work up an appetite. (We didn’t use the pool.) We chose kaiseki for dinner—pure Japanese cuisine that makes the most of carefully selected ingredients, beautifully presented on elegant tableware. The refined seasoning highlighted the depth of the dashi, and everything was delicious. And then Mt. Fuji: it was hidden by clouds when we arrived, but under clear skies the next day—there it was. Mt. Fuji filling the glass wall from the lobby. A breathtakingly powerful view from the terrace. Mt. Fuji right in front of you from the outdoor bath. Mt. Fuji from our Room—and even Mt. Fuji from the in-room bath! All straight ahead!! Incredible. One thing I had been concerned about—that you had to change clothes for dining—has apparently changed, and yukata are now OK in the restaurant. If I had to nitpick: some of the light switches in our Room were hard to figure out. Also, in our Room’s bath I couldn’t fully stretch my legs (maybe choosing a larger Room would solve that). Next time, I definitely want to try Kanda’s teppanyaki—I need to make my next Reservation soon...

Please compare Hakone’s Gora Kadan with Fuji.

I have stayed at Gora Kadan in Hakone 37 times as my go-to Accommodation, but this was my first stay at Gora Kadan Fuji. Even though it was our first time here, our preferences had been properly handed over from the Hakone team, and they accommodated our requests exactly as we hoped, so we had a very comfortable stay. This is what you would expect from Gora Kadan. Many people have already written Reviews about what makes Gora Kadan Fuji special, so I will compare Gora Kadan Hakone and Fuji. Room: Fuji is new, so everything is spotless. Even at a similar price point, Fuji felt more spacious, and the layout was more user-friendly. That said, I did miss having two TVs like “Akebono” in Hakone. Dining: Overall, both Fuji and Hakone are delicious and pay attention to tableware as well. While Hakone has reduced ingredient costs compared with the past, it’s hard to deny that Fuji feels even more cost-cut (e.g., the size of the wagyu filet). When traveling, I want to enjoy dishes that showcase the chef’s skill—but at breakfast in Fuji (Japanese set), natto—the same kind we eat at home—was placed right in the center as-is. Was it literally supermarket natto…? Where is the pride of a luxury Ryokan? (And how would “sticky beans” be received by international guests?) In Hakone’s Japanese breakfast there is also salad, and you can choose grilled fish from three options (horse mackerel, salmon, or saikyo-yaki), but at Fuji three small fish fillets were served together on one plate. Rice is served in an earthenware pot. In Hakone it’s cooked beautifully; at Fuji perhaps they are not yet used to cooking in donabe—the bottom was mushy and quite poor. Sightseeing: Compared with Hakone, Fuji is clearly at a disadvantage. Hakone offers museums and Gora Park among many other options; there are also family-friendly attractions such as the Hakone Tozan Railway, cable car, ropeway, and Owakudani. Around Fuji it’s great for golfers; otherwise sightseeing mostly means driving to Lake Yamanaka, Lake Kawaguchi, Oshino Hakkai Springs, or Fuji Speedway. Staff: My impression of the service from staff working inside was better at Fuji. Other: The amenities were the same in both Hakone and Fuji. The “Gotemba Koshihikari Lager Beer” in the fridge at Fuji was excellent. It was also nice to catch up with familiar faces who moved from Gora Kadan Hakone to Fuji after some time apart. Both locations have their own strengths, and I would like to stay again going forward.

    Magnificent Mount Fuji

I was truly looking forward to staying at Gora Kadan Fuji. I got a little lost following the car navigation system before arriving, but when I asked the golf course staff, they kindly showed me the way. The Room was very clean, and the bath was a hinoki cypress bath with a wonderful cypress scent. I was able to relax in the Room and was very satisfied. The dinner area was very spacious, with many different options to choose from, and I enjoyed the sushi I had reserved in advance. It was excellent. For breakfast, I requested a Western-style meal, but I would have appreciated a bit more detailed explanation about where breakfast would be served and the types of egg dishes available. The view from the Room was also wonderful; however, depending on the season and time of day, there may be days when you cannot see Mt. Fuji at all or when fog turns everything outside completely white. Thank you very much to all the staff for listening to my requests and taking such good care of me. I would like to visit again.
