    Warm, heartfelt hospitality

I had business in Sendai and decided to stay the night before at Mukaitaki, which I’d been curious about for some time. However, my husband became unwell. The driver who came to pick us up at Fukushima Station (Shuttle Service already reserved) noticed his condition and seems to have contacted the Accommodation. When we arrived, a staff member was waiting with a wheelchair ready—such thoughtful and seamless care. The lobby is beautifully unified with tasteful kumiko woodwork, and the view of the valley through the windows really made it feel like we were on a trip… The welcome drink—peach juice—was delicious. For dinner, my husband chose Japanese cuisine and I had Western cuisine. Comparing the ingredients and overall impression, the Japanese meal looked far more appealing. It may depend on the season, but I recommend choosing Japanese cuisine for future guests. By the next morning my husband still wasn’t feeling well, so we asked relatives in Sendai to pick us up by car. They apparently arrived 30 minutes earlier than planned, and a staff member kindly asked, “Are you here to pick someone up?” They even served freshly brewed coffee in the lobby. Our relative said, “You can really tell this is a top-class Accommodation.” We are truly grateful for such considerate hospitality. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us. It’s an Accommodation that made me want to come back next time with our relatives from Sendai.

    Obon Holiday at Tsuchiyu Onsen

Thank you very much for taking care of us for two nights and three days. At arrival, the entrance was set a little back and was hard to find, but everyone at the Accommodation gave us a warm welcome. The Room was spacious and kept very clean, and we really enjoyed the relaxing open-air bath attached to the Room. The wash area and closet were a bit small, but we were able to spread out our luggage in the tatami corner. Outside the window, a river flowed by, and two sheep were leisurely walking along the bank while grazing on grass. Beyond that stretched a refreshing gorge; although it rained continuously during our stay, it was such a calm view that we could have watched it forever. For meals, we had both Japanese and Western cuisine for breakfast and dinner, and we could truly feel how thoughtfully everything—from ingredient selection onward—was prepared with guests in mind. Everything was delicious with so much care and creativity put into it. Since we had informed you in advance about ingredients we don’t like, you kindly prepared an excellent dish using different ingredients. Thank you very much. The large public bath and sauna were both spacious, and we were able to enjoy them luxuriously without overlapping with many other guests. The quality of the hot water was excellent. With many kinds of shampoo available as well as drinks and ice pops provided, we felt your spirit of hospitality. All of your staff’s hospitality is wonderful. We enjoyed chatting with you, and you kindly helped us with sightseeing advice as well—thank you very much. It was our first time in Fukushima; we visited Aizu and Lake Inawashiro, but didn’t have time to experience the Tsuchiyu Onsen town area itself, so next time I’d love to take my time strolling around there.

An Accommodation recommended for relaxing, luxurious time with delicious meals and an Onsen.

Thank you again for your attentive and thoughtful service. The indoor sandals are comfortable and cute. I’m also happy to see various improvements, just as other guests have mentioned. Both dinner and breakfast are not flashy, but each dish is carefully prepared and delicious. The large public bath is spacious and relaxing. I didn’t notice a clock in the bathing area, so it’s easy to lose track of time if you’re not careful. Also, since there is a sauna, it would be great to have relaxation chairs near the open-air bath area. The all-inclusive option is recommended for those who drink a lot, but if you prefer enjoying small pairings little by little, it may be better not to add it since pairings are charged separately. I added the option because it was recommended at dinner and I was looking forward to the pairing experience, so that was a bit disappointing. All of the staff clearly care about providing an even better stay, which made me very happy. A relaxing stay with delicious food and Onsen—I will visit again. Thank you very much.

    I stayed here again.

I had been hoping to return ever since my one-night stay in March. After seeing the comment “Enjoy the four seasons,” I booked a two-night stay on a weekday right after the Obon holidays. I’m the type who wants to relax and enjoy an Onsen in a quiet place, and luckily it felt almost like having the place to myself. Because it was a Multiple Night Stay, they upgraded my Room, and I was able to fully enjoy both large public baths at my own pace. The Hotel staff remembered what we talked about during my previous stay and brought it up again, and they even guided me to places I’d wanted to visit, such as the folk village museum and a direct-sale peach stand. The warm atmosphere was just as wonderful as before, which made me very happy. Every meal was delicious, and I was completely satisfied. I’d love to try the seasonal dishes in another season as well. Finally, as a request: it would be great if there were a baggage rack in the Room. Also, for those of us with bad knees like mine, chairs and a table might be more convenient than floor chairs in the tatami area.

    I stayed at Hotel Mu...

I stayed at Hotel Mukaitaki in Tsuchiyu Onsen. What I especially loved this time were the cuisine, the open-air bath in the Room, and the strong sense of privacy. Dinner was carefully prepared dish by dish, and the surf clam shabu-shabu and Fukushima beef were outstanding. The surf clam’s texture and sweetness and the rich flavor of the Fukushima beef were both excellent—these were the most memorable dishes of my stay. Above all, the open-air bath in the Room was amazing. Being able to enjoy the Onsen freely at any time without worrying about others is truly special. Perhaps because there are only a few Rooms, I hardly ran into other guests during my stay. The building was very quiet and felt extremely private. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to relax at an Onsen Accommodation without being concerned about other people. The staff’s thoughtfulness was also wonderful—they escorted me to and from the parking lot at both arrival and departure. They even gave me souvenir rice balls on my way home. It was warm hospitality from start to finish.

    We had a great time!

We stayed for one night before heading back from my husband’s parents’ home. We arrived in a heavy downpour, but you came out right away with an umbrella to greet us, and we felt your warmth from the very start. We used the lounge before dinner, and the coffee there was delicious—then after a relaxing soak in the Onsen, it was time for dinner! Dinner was wonderful and full of pleasant surprises. There were so many delicious dishes I can’t possibly list them all, but I’d love to have them again. And the bread on the side was unbelievably good—I ended up getting seconds again and again! Breakfast was also very satisfying, and the rice ball we received at check-out was delicious on the train. I’ve written mostly about food, but the Onsen was also fantastic—I think I went in four times (haha). We found an Accommodation we would truly love to visit again. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us!

    I’m hungry.

The bath was satisfying, and the other services were good, but I was disappointed with the meals—one of the two main pleasures of an Onsen stay. I went back to my Room still hungry and ate snacks right away. Breakfast also had very few side dishes to go with the rice, so I ended up pouring miso soup over my rice for a second bowl. I received an onigiri as a souvenir, but I couldn’t help thinking it would have been better served at dinner the night before, and I was left speechless holding it.

    Highly recommended.

We stayed here during the July holiday weekend. As mentioned in other Reviews, we truly experienced outstanding hospitality. It’s not just “say 1 and you get 10 back”—even if you say nothing, you still receive 10, and that doesn’t feel like an exaggeration. You can always improve the Facility and other hardware aspects, but what really matters is the quality of the people and service. Considering the location, I felt before our stay that it might be a bit pricey, but thanks to all the staff, it ended up being an excellent value for money. The food was also delicious, and I highly recommend a Multiple Night Stay so you can enjoy both the Western-style and Japanese meals. Thank you very much.

    Thank you for your support.

Thank you very much for your hospitality. I had been hoping to stay here for some time, and I was finally able to do so on this trip. As this Accommodation was built in 2025, the Facility is beautifully maintained, and I was very satisfied. Perhaps because there are only a few Rooms, it was wonderfully quiet, and I spent the whole time listening to the murmuring river and the evening cicadas. It rained during our stay, but that only added to the atmosphere and made it even more enjoyable. The meals were excellent as well; we chose French cuisine for dinner this time, and the quality exceeded my expectations. Breakfast was also very satisfying, and I would highly recommend the Western-style options too. The staff’s service was outstanding—this is an Accommodation that truly makes you want to return in another season. That said, perhaps due to the air conditioning or simply the season, our bath towels did not dry well, so we borrowed an extra towel from the large public bath. My companion also mentioned a noticeable smell from one of the pillows, but it improved without issue after using the deodorizing spray provided in the Room. Other than that, there is nothing else to mention. Overall, it was a highly satisfying stay. We hope to visit again in autumn. It is an Accommodation where you can really feel each season’s distinct character—something I haven’t come across in a long time. Thank you very much indeed.

    Everything was excellent!

With no real knowledge of Tsuchiyu Onsen—I'd heard the name but that was about it—we visited as a group of three with my elderly parents, relying on the great Reviews. We parked and entered into the 5th-floor lobby. The beauty of the parquet woodwork and the lush green gorge took our breath away. We checked in while enjoying welcome drinks on the sofa. Our Room on the 3rd floor was just as modern as in the photos and came with a cypress open-air bath. Before dinner, we used the large public bath on the 1st floor. The water was amazing!! A faint sulfur scent and silky water that seemed to cling to your skin. My parents were impressed too, saying it was the best Onsen water they’d ever experienced. Apparently even the shower water is from the Onsen—I’d never seen that before, so I was surprised. We went to the public bath three times during our one-night stay, and only ran into another guest once (just one person). It felt almost private, which made it even better. Dinner was served in a private room on the 4th floor. We chose Japanese cuisine. The explanations were very careful and easy to understand, and everything—from taste to presentation (including the tableware)—was beautiful; you could really feel the chef’s attention to detail. The handwritten menu also had a wonderful charm. Breakfast was also Japanese cuisine, and we were just as satisfied as we were at dinner. This trip also celebrated my mother’s birthday and mine, so we booked an Anniversary Plan. After dinner they brought out a cake, but we were too full to eat it, so they delivered it to our Room instead. After relaxing in the Onsen for a bit, we still felt full—but said “Since it’s here anyway, let’s finish it tonight,” made some coffee...and ended up eating it all! It really was delicious!! We were also happy with the parquet coaster gift—thank you very much. To all of your staff: thank you for taking such great care of us. We truly appreciate all your kindness. We will definitely come again while my parents are still healthy!

    The hospitality was exceptional.

I wondered whether Fukushima is still suffering from lingering reputational damage, as I didn’t see any inbound visitors around the station. At Fukushima Station, there were only a few souvenirs—mainly local fruit specialties—so it didn’t feel like a tourist destination. That said, the Shuttle Service we requested was excellent: both the driver and the vehicle were comfortable. Upon arriving at the Accommodation, we were welcomed with a draft beer, which instantly lifted our spirits. The Room we were shown was spotlessly clean and so spacious it felt almost too large—truly comfortable. The Onsen was slightly hot, but very pleasant and left our skin feeling smooth. For dinner we deliberately chose French cuisine and thoroughly enjoyed abalone, kuruma prawns, and a Fukushima beef steak. The paired wines were so good I ended up drinking more than I intended. For breakfast we chose Japanese cuisine. Both the quality and quantity exceeded expectations; everything was carefully prepared and delicious. The building itself is still quite new, and because it isn’t very large-scale, I felt the service was attentive in every detail. The staff’s warm local accent added to the charm, and their hospitality was outstanding. Perhaps because of its smaller size, it’s rare to have the same staff members consistently handle check-in as well as dinner and breakfast service—but my spouse and I appreciated it greatly. It must be demanding work, yet it made us feel well looked after. As mentioned at the beginning—and especially in today’s era of overtourism—it was genuinely relaxing not to run into inbound guests within the Facility. While this is certainly in a higher price range, it is an excellent Accommodation with no regrets at all. I can recommend it to anyone.

    The cuisine is excellent.

We chose French cuisine for dinner and a Western-style breakfast. I was intrigued because it’s rare to find a Western-style breakfast at a mountain Onsen Ryokan. In the end, I was impressed by the high quality of both. The French dinner, especially the sauces, was excellent, and it paired beautifully with the wines, keeping us satisfied through to the last course. For breakfast, we enjoyed freshly baked homemade croissants served piping hot—crispy and fragrant with butter. It was a wonderful Accommodation.

On my way back to my...

On my way back to my parents’ home, I stayed one night in Nasu and one night at this Hotel. First of all, I was truly impressed by the lobby. The “Kumiko” woodwork was breathtaking—absolutely worth seeing in person. It was so beautiful I found myself staring with my mouth open. The open-air bath in the Room allowed me to adjust the temperature myself, which was perfect for me since I prefer lukewarm water. There was nothing blocking the view, so I could enjoy it to the fullest. However, the open-air bath at the large public bath was far too hot—I couldn’t get in even after just putting my feet in. It was such a lovely open-air bath, so that was disappointing. The next day they switched baths and I could use a different-style open-air bath, but overall it does run on the hot side. Still, I was more than satisfied with the open-air bath in my Room. The Room itself was spacious and clean, with “Kumiko” details here and there—wonderful. The food—though this may sound like a typical comment—was delicious. I had drunk too much alcohol in Nasu the day before and wasn’t feeling well stomach-wise. I really wanted to enjoy the dishes with alcohol, but instead I had soft drinks. At that time, I felt that most of the dishes are designed to pair well with alcohol and don’t match soft drinks as well. In such cases, it would be nice if rice could be served earlier for guests who don’t drink. In my case, a staff member quickly noticed and kindly brought me warm tea—thank you very much. Also, I was impressed by how well information is shared among the staff here. Something we chatted about briefly at dinner had been passed on to the staff member working the next day as well—it surprised me. They knew that I would be heading back to my parents’ home and that there had been an earthquake early that morning near where they live; thank you for your concern. It’s about a six-hour journey from here, and they even gave me a boxed meal for the trip—I’m sincerely grateful. It was delicious. This is an Accommodation I highly recommend everyone stay at at least once.

Thank you for your kind and attentive service.

The staff gave us a warm welcome upon arrival, and the fluffy towels made it feel wonderful after a bath. It was a shame we didn’t get to use the large public bath, but we enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room five times. On departure, we even received onigiri as a souvenir and Shuttle Service… Thanks to the staff’s heartfelt hospitality, we were able to relax and truly enjoy our holiday.

Anticipating even greater refinement in an exceptional space

We stayed as a couple to celebrate a birthday. The 67-square-meter modern Japanese-Western room with an open-air bath that we booked was outstanding, and the room, Onsen, and cuisine were all of a very high standard. It had everything you would want in an Accommodation for a special occasion, and overall it was a highly satisfying stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the open-air bath was so relaxing that we wanted to use it again and again. The property is beautifully maintained throughout, and you can really feel the generous investment in the Facility features and furnishings. Great care has also been taken to create the atmosphere expected of a luxury Accommodation, allowing us to fully enjoy an escape from everyday life. Both dinner (Japanese cuisine) and breakfast (Western-style) were excellent, with clear attention to detail. The core elements of an Accommodation—Onsen, rooms, and food—are truly commendable here. That said, while this Accommodation offers superb hardware, it still feels somewhat in progress when it comes to the distinctive sense of ease and seasoned refinement often found at long-established luxury properties. All staff members worked very hard and were pleasant; their desire to make our stay enjoyable came through clearly. However, in terms of the natural attentiveness and polished gestures expected at this price point—and the overall sense of reassurance that envelops your entire stay—it felt like there is still room for further refinement. Of course, nothing made us uncomfortable. On the contrary, the service was likable. Still, because rates are extremely high even on weekdays, guests’ expectations naturally rise as well. That is precisely why we see great potential here. The Facility’s luxury and comfort are already top-tier. If deeper hospitality—something cultivated over time—is added on top of that foundation, this place could become truly one of a kind. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay. It is well worth choosing for a special occasion, and we look forward to seeing how it continues to mature over time.

    A Luxurious Stay

As soon as we stepped into the front lobby, an open, nature-filled space with lush greenery unfolded—something you would never expect from the Hotel’s main entrance—and it was a wonderful, tasteful area overlooking the river below. The Facility was still new and pleasantly comfortable, everything was excellent, and thanks to a post-holiday miracle my spouse and I were lucky enough to have the place all to ourselves—so we were completely satisfied! Every staff member welcomed us with warm, kind, and attentive hospitality, and they even sent us off with onigiri for the journey home. We were able to enjoy a truly wonderful and luxurious time. We headed home feeling happy, hoping to stay again if we have another opportunity.

Fresh green leaves before your eyes

The view of Japan’s clearest river and the beautiful fresh greenery spreading out right in front of us was incredibly soothing, and it could be enjoyed from anywhere. The interior, adorned with exquisite wood joinery, is a luxurious design with only nine rooms. High-quality bath towels, loungewear, and yukata are provided, making for a very comfortable stay. The large public bath has spacious tubs, so you can relax and fully enjoy the high-quality Onsen water. After your bath, there is also complimentary ice pops and drinks—truly attentive service. Both breakfast and dinner feature an array of carefully prepared dishes; everything is delicious, and even when you’re full you can’t help but keep eating. Above all, the staff who provide the Shuttle Service and hospitality are all genuinely wonderful people, allowing you to spend your time comfortably and in great spirits. It was a lovely Accommodation that left me with warm memories even after returning home! I’m so glad I chose Mukaitaki for my stay—thank you very much for everything. (I had absolutely no complaints, but I thought it would be nice if hairbrushes were also available.)

    The Best Accommodation Ever

The Room, meals, Onsen, and kumiko workshop were all wonderful. If I had to mention one thing, because there is no separation between the entrance and the Room, it initially felt a bit unhygienic; however, the flooring was impeccably cleaned, so it stopped bothering me over time. This is an Accommodation I would like to visit again.

    Satisfied.

This was my second stay, and I enjoyed it just as much this time. The staff’s thoughtful hospitality and warm smiles were truly soothing, and I was able to fully enjoy the open-air bath in my Room, the large public bath, and the Onsen, along with delicious meals to my heart’s content. One of the highlights here is not only the cuisine but also the authentic desserts. Perhaps because I chose a Western-style breakfast this time, both the meal and even the breakfast dessert were outstanding—I found myself smiling from early in the morning. There were many things that made me happy: bath towels are provided at the large public bath, there are three kinds of drinks available there, and this time there was even ice cream. I was able to relax both at the large public bath and in my Room. I would definitely like to stay again.

This Accommodation offered warm hospitality, breakfast, and beautiful kumiko woodwork.

This trip was to celebrate an anniversary.\nI have stayed at several IKYU Plus Accommodations, but the hospitality and breakfast here were exceptional—truly outstanding.\nBecause it was an anniversary stay, we received special consideration, and the level of service was simply different. A one-category Room upgrade, complimentary dinner drinks, a small souvenir—many Accommodations offer something along those lines—but this place surpassed expectations in every way. Thanks to a series of surprises beyond what we imagined, we were able to relax comfortably while fully enjoying a sense of escape and something truly special.\nDinner was delicious: we could sample small portions of many luxurious ingredients, all prepared with great care. And breakfast was incredible as well—I have never stayed at an Accommodation with such an extensive breakfast.\nThe kumiko woodwork décor throughout the Hotel made it feel like a kumiko museum. In particular, the large seasonal kumiko panel depicting spring, summer, autumn, and winter—matching the size of the big lobby window—was beautiful. The Room also featured kumiko pieces throughout; being able to see and experience traditional woodworking up close felt like a real luxury.\nAbove all, every staff member was wonderful. It poured with rain when we left, yet everyone came out with umbrellas to see us off.\nThey made us feel glad we chose this Hotel—and eager to return—right up until the very end.

    A Lovely Kumiko-Style Accommodation

This was my first stay in Tsuchiyu Onsen. It is a very luxurious Hotel. Kumiko woodwork can be found everywhere—in the lobby, the Room, the dining area, the corridors—truly wonderful. From the moment we arrived, a staff member congratulated us. The staff were efficient, very courteous, and made us feel comfortable throughout our stay. We are so glad we chose this place for our silver wedding anniversary trip. Thank you for preparing champagne in our Room. We were also able to relax and unwind in the Onsen bath in our Room. The meals were Japanese cuisine and felt fairly standard for us, but we left completely full. Since it’s not an easy place to visit often, it became a very special memory.

    It’s new and clean, but…

The welcome drink was very nice. The Room was upgraded this time, and it was spacious and great. The private open-air bath in the Room was also very good, but not everything was perfect. That key-card slot system where you insert the card to use electricity in the Room— to be honest, I didn’t expect that at this price range. Also, it’s nice that drinks are all-inclusive, but honestly the selection is disappointing. I’d like them to spend a bit more on this. There were no proper glasses, so there wasn’t any ice either. The food also wasn’t as tasty as I expected. A lot of it was served cold, which was a bit disappointing.

The Accommodation had just been rebuilt and was very clean. The hot spring water felt rich in beneficial qualities. All the staff were pleasant, and their thoughtful attention made it easy to relax. The meals were delicious, and we were very satisfied. It was so comfortable that my family and I said we would like to return.

    Poorly Designed Room

The lobby and most areas of the hotel are beautiful, but for the price we paid, the room was disappointing. The layout is poorly designed, with no separate entry area. The plain white walls feel bare; it would be nicer with coordinated wallpaper and design touches. The room switches also look inexpensive. The bathroom and vanity are not luxurious and are too small, with no place to put bath towels. No footwear was provided for going to the public onsen. The best part of this hotel is the hardworking, friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast are excellent, which helps make up for some of these drawbacks.

Thank you very much for your hospitality. My mother and I stayed with you three times over the past five months—in November, January, and again this April.
