    The meals are outstanding!

    Once a year, I travel with my best friend. Now that we’re done raising our children, we’re excited to see how much we can enjoy ourselves. I’ve finally reached a point where I can spend a bit more time and money on myself, and I want to make the most of it with no regrets. This trip is also the only time I get to see my best friend. We’ve taken several luxurious trips, but this was by far the best meal we’ve ever had. The cuisine was Japanese with a Western twist, and it was absolutely satisfying—both the flavors and presentation were outstanding. Another highlight was the small but excellent team of staff. There was no unnecessary fuss; check-in and welcome drinks were handled smoothly by just a few people. The restaurant service was also run by a small team, yet everything—from evening drink service to morning coffee—was attentive and well organized. It was truly wonderful. Next time, I’d like to upgrade the Room category a bit—this is a Hotel I definitely want to return to.

    It was good, but…

    We stayed as a couple in the Ooruri Suite. We were not satisfied with the Room layout/flow, but the overall atmosphere was nice. The Onsen temperature was low, so we kept adding hot water while bathing. On top of that, around 7:00 a.m. the Onsen stopped running. When we asked the front desk, they said it would start again if we waited a bit… but it never did. So in the morning we couldn’t use the bath and only used the sauna and shower. For dinner, we chose the late seating at 19:45. Guests next to us from the 17:30 seating were still there and seemed to be having a very lively time. Since it’s only a simple semi-private room setup, their pub-like chatter was overwhelming and unpleasant. Without issues with the Onsen temperature and the restaurant experience, I would have rated this much higher.

    It was very good.

    We were able to spend a relaxing and luxurious time in a Room with an open-air bath. Every dish was delicious, and the calm atmosphere throughout the Accommodation was truly soothing, making our stay extremely satisfying. This is a wonderful Accommodation that we would definitely like to visit again.

    A wonderful, relaxing time

    After an incredibly busy start to the new fiscal year, I made a Reservation for a nearby place where we could truly relax and recharge. We chose a Room with a private sauna for my husband, who absolutely loves saunas. It was my first time enjoying a sauna together with him. Both the Room and the large public bath had Onsen water that was silky, milky white, with a gentle sulfur scent. It had been a while since I last enjoyed this kind of Onsen, and we were able to spend such unhurried, relaxing time. From the moment we arrived, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding, which helped us unwind even more. They provided airtight bags to prevent accessories from discoloring due to the sulfur scent and advised us to store them in the safe. From settling into our Room until check-out, my jewelry stayed in that bag. We also enjoyed beautiful fresh greenery from our Room, and the Japanese azaleas were in full bloom—soaking in the Onsen while taking in the view was wonderful. Before and after dinner, there was lounge service with drinks and snacks. You can properly choose from a menu, and everything is brought right to your table. It’s amazing that this is included as part of the service. For dinner at the restaurant, they accommodated my husband’s shrimp and crab allergy by removing those items and substituting other ingredients. We felt completely at ease and enjoyed delicious drinks alongside beautifully creative dishes. After breakfast we enjoyed both the sauna and Onsen again, then a staff member kindly took lovely photos for us at the entrance. Still savoring the experience, we headed to an outlet mall afterward. It was Golden Week so everywhere was crowded—but during our stay here alone, we were able to spend truly calm and restful time. This is a wonderful place with hospitality-filled service that I would love to visit again.

    It was a bit disappointing.

    We had a very pleasant stay surrounded by fresh greenery, but there are three points I would like to mention. 1) Bathroom: When I took a bath at 6:00 a.m., I was surprised to find that towels and amenities had not been replenished since the previous night, and the trash bins had not been emptied. There were no bath towels, so I had to dry off with a hand towel. It seems there is no cleaning overnight into the morning, but since many guests stay here, I think it would be better to check cleaning and restocking more carefully. 2) Room: In the open-air bath in the Room, free-flowing hot spring water runs continuously throughout the night. The sound echoes in the Room, and the sulfur smell fills the space. Since it is not fully sealed due to sliding doors, this may be unavoidable, but I could not sleep. I would appreciate it if this could be mentioned in advance as a note at the time of Reservation. 3) Meals: The food was delicious, but there were differences in how dishes were explained depending on who served us. At the table next to us, a woman provided careful explanations, while at our table a man gave very little information, which was disappointing. Also, a small child was crying continuously nearby, which made it hard for us to enjoy our meal. I understand this can be difficult due to individual circumstances, but having options—such as separate dining times for preschool children and other guests—would be helpful.

    It was excellent.

    The in-room bath is a sulfur hot spring—something you rarely find. That alone is wonderful (and I truly admire that it was created despite the risk that hydrogen sulfide can quickly damage TVs and other electrical appliances), and on top of that, every staff member was genuinely friendly and kind. Thank you for graciously accommodating even my unreasonable requests. I’m truly, truly glad I found this place. I will definitely return. Thank you for such a moving experience.

    Your First Trip to Nasu

    This was the best Accommodation I have ever stayed at. We chose the largest Room with an Onsen and sauna. The staff’s attentive hospitality, the calm interior design, and the seasonal, delicious meals exceeded our expectations—our whole family was very satisfied. We would love to visit again someday.     I visited looking forward to the cuisine and having a sulfur Onsen in the Room. Being able to enjoy a continuously flowing sulfur Onsen in the Room at any time was a real luxury, and I was very satisfied with the staff’s respectful sense of distance and, above all, the complimentary drinks in the lounge from 18:00 to 23:00. The meals were not beyond my expectations, and breakfast was a bit disappointing. Opening the lid of the wooden box was an exciting moment, but many of the side dishes felt pre-prepared. Even if there were fewer items, I would love to see fresher options like a fresh salad and a breakfast that reflects Tochigi. If breakfast is improved, I would like to return to this Accommodation.

    It was a truly wonderful trip.

    We stayed here for a special anniversary. We were able to spend a truly wonderful time. The Room was spacious and we could relax comfortably. The Onsen and sauna were also very pleasant. I was only slightly concerned about some smudges on the glass. Every dish was delicious, with carefully balanced seasoning. The birthday plate was beautifully prepared as well. When I started feeling a bit unwell, the staff kindly looked after me until the very end, which made me truly happy. Thank you very much. We would love to stay again.

    Recommended for sulfur hot spring lovers.

    We stayed here for the first time because the Room has a sulfur hot-spring bath. These impressions are purely our personal opinion as a couple. [What we liked] - Sparkling wine was available as a welcome drink. - The Room has a sulfur hot spring, and the water temperature is pleasantly lukewarm so you can soak and relax. - The red wine we ordered at dinner and the main dish (beef tenderloin) were delicious. - The portion sizes were not too large—just right. (Though some people may find it a bit small.) - The lounge, open from 6:00 PM, had a wide variety of drinks and was enjoyable. - A 2:00 PM check-in is appreciated, as it has become less common recently. [What disappointed us] - There was no beer in the Room refrigerator, and it wasn’t sold in any vending machines on-site either. - The Room was dimly lit. - Alcohol prices at the restaurant felt expensive. - The sound of water running into the in-room bath was noticeable when trying to sleep. - The food didn’t leave much of an impression overall. Items like kelp-cured cod and the broad bean dessert were underwhelming. We were able to stay at a great price thanks to an IKYU sale, but at the regular Accommodation Fee, we feel it’s overpriced for what you get. That said, being able to enjoy as much sulfur hot-spring bathing as we like in the Room is wonderful, so we would consider returning if there’s another sale price.

    I went there to treat my sciatica.

    I had been suffering from sciatica for about a month, so I came to rest and take it easy. The pain eased, and I feel much better now. It was very quiet and relaxing, and the meals were excellent. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the thoughtful care from the staff.

    Overall,

    Traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine may be well received by older guests, but younger guests may find the portion sizes a bit unusual. The lighting in the washroom/vanity area could be brighter. Adjusting the water level in the in-room open-air bath was difficult. There is no shop or other facilities, but it is a calm and relaxing Accommodation.

    This is a very clean Hotel.

    One thing to mention is that there was an Onsen scent (a sulfur smell) in the Room. This may vary by person, but some guests might find it unpleasant. However, I only saw one Room this time, so please take this as just one opinion. The Facility was very clean, and the staff were very considerate.

    Family-friendly Accommodation

    I made a Reservation about a week before our stay on a whim. Since we were traveling with our 18-month-old daughter, I had various concerns, but the staff were wonderful and it became a truly memorable stay. From the entrance to the lounge, the interior feels luxurious, and from the moment you step inside you can enjoy an escape from everyday life. The lounge features a fireplace and has a calm atmosphere where you can relax with a drink. From 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, complimentary non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available in the lounge. What surprised me most was how extensive the selection was. My husband and I love drinks, so this service made us very happy. There were so many options—local beer, local sake, wine by the glass, whiskey, and original cocktails—that it was hard to choose. We headed straight to the lounge after arrival and enjoyed beer, local sake, and whiskey. Our Room had a semi-open-air Onsen bath just beyond a glass partition. Opening the glass door connects directly to the bath. The scent of sulfur filled the Room and really made us feel we had arrived at an Onsen destination. And most importantly—the meals were among the best we’ve ever had. The dishes used plenty of seasonal vegetables and ingredients at their peak; they were beautiful to look at and delicious to eat—truly outstanding cuisine. We booked our daughter without meals included, but thanks to your kindness we received rice and seasoned seaweed for her, which she loved. When she became fussy later on, staff kindly spoke with her and kept her company so we could enjoy our meal at ease. We went to the large public bath first thing in the morning and were able to enjoy it privately without running into other guests. Breakfast was also excellent. Thank you very much for exceeding our expectations—we would love to visit again.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    I was impressed the moment I stepped into the entrance of this simple yet solid building made of stone and wood. The guest room design and the Onsen were a first-time experience for me. 　I was disappointed there was no open-air bath, but I enjoyed the bath in my Room instead. Towels and other amenities are provided at the large public bath, so it was great to be able to go without bringing anything. I was also happy that free massage chairs were available. 　Dinner featured creative cuisine, and every dish looked and tasted wonderful. The beef tenderloin steak was so tender—I wished I could have had more. Breakfast, of course, was also excellent. 　After dinner at the bar, we enjoyed stylish snacks and a wide variety of alcoholic drinks and soft drinks—I ended up going back for refills many times. 　Although all the staff were young, everyone was polite and made us feel very welcome.

    The only issue is access. Shuttle service on a first-come, first-served basis makes it difficult to rely on the Shinkansen with peace of mind. While the cuisine and Onsen are excellent and make me want to return, hesitation arises without reliable transportation from the station. Please consider addressing this.

    The shuttle service, room, onsen, and meals were all very satisfying. The staff maintained a comfortable balance in their interactions. Among everything, the dinner menu stood out with its creative use of simple ingredients like turnips and carrots, making it worth revisiting just for the dinner experience. Compared to dinner, breakfast left a slightly weaker impression; having a standout feature might enhance it further. This is a small-scale hotel designed for adults to enjoy tranquility. However, I did notice young children around kindergarten age energetically running around the restaurant and lounge areas, which was slightly distracting. While I'm unsure of the best approach to address this, I hope some consideration can be given to this matter. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay at this accommodation, and I look forward to visiting again during another season!

    I stayed in Room 205. The shower water pressure was weak and inconvenient. The amenity razor was also low quality, and I got razor burn in several places. It doesn’t match the Accommodation Fee, so please review and improve it properly.

    The temperature of the Onsen in the room was perfect, allowing for a long and relaxing soak. Being able to enjoy a free-flowing Onsen directly in the room was definitely a highlight. The sound of flowing water served as soothing background music, adding to the relaxation. While the distinctive sulfur smell might not appeal to everyone, it reminded me of "Shika no Yu," which could be a helpful reference. The entire facility was impeccably clean, including even the air conditioner vents, ensuring a comfortable stay. The meals were delicious, and pairing drinks with dinner turned out to be an excellent choice—offering great value with various types of alcohol to enjoy. Breakfast had generous portions, which were satisfying; however, slightly larger dinner portions might better satisfy male guests. Complimentary drinks at the lounge were another nice touch. It was enjoyable to relax at the counter while sipping on beverages. The staff's hospitality was exceptional and created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that felt very homey. I was deeply moved when they waved goodbye until my car disappeared from sight. I would love to stay here again!

    Relaxing Accommodation

    It was my first visit. The Hotel kindly picked me up at the station, and after checking in, I enjoyed a welcome drink in my room. What impressed me the most was the Onsen in the room. The milky white water and pleasant sulfur aroma were absolutely amazing. Dinner was exciting as the menu listed ingredients, but what dishes would arrive remained a delightful surprise. The final dessert, "Winter Carrot and Miso," had me curious about what it would be like—it turned out to be incredibly delicious and left a lasting impression. I also enjoyed drinks at the lounge after dinner. Breakfast was visually stunning, so beautiful that I didn’t know where to start! The kindness and thoughtfulness of the staff deeply moved me as well. I even had an enjoyable interaction with someone I met during the car ride there, making this trip truly wonderful. Thank you very much! This is a Hotel I definitely want to visit again!

    Highly recommended

    Each staff member has a wonderful personality, adding charm to the time spent at the accommodation, and I was very satisfied in terms of relaxation. Thank you so much. The only downside was that the clams were not purged of sand, which brought me out of my dreamy state for a moment. However, thanks to the hospitality of the staff, I have nothing but enjoyable memories. I will visit again. The atmosphere at the bar in the evening was also delightful.

    An Accommodation You'll Love to Visit Again and Again

    This was my second stay at the Mori Shun Basket Suite. The dinner course of creative cuisine was intriguing, with only the names of ingredients listed on the menu, sparking curiosity about what would be served. The chef's thoughts were also included, adding excitement to the experience. The dishes were not only visually artistic but also refined in taste. The private Onsen in the room is a sulfur-rich hot spring abundant in metasilicic acid and is definitely worth trying. Upon entering the room, you are greeted by a sulfur aroma that truly makes you feel like you've arrived at an Onsen destination. The sauna comes with adjustable temperatures and allows for an aromatic Löyly sauna experience, making it perfect for sauna enthusiasts. Although there isn't a cold plunge pool available, outdoor air baths compensate well enough and didn't bother me much. The open-air Onsen under a starry night sky was simply breathtaking. The sofa was spacious and comfortable to relax on, while the bed was plush enough for a deep sleep. One minor point of concern was that for a small luxury hotel, I felt some of the amenities seemed slightly inexpensive in quality. Considering we paid quite a significant amount, perhaps higher-quality amenities could be provided. There were many other delightful moments and thoughtful services I experienced during my stay that I could write endlessly about; overall, it was an incredibly satisfying hotel stay. It’s definitely somewhere I’d love to return to again someday—thanks to all the butlers' attentive care throughout my visit! Thank you very much!

    The cloudy hot spring water was amazing.

    This was my second stay, and I was satisfied with the meals, service, and bath. However, it was disappointing that the sauna in the Room was out of order. Please consider offering the relaxation service I requested during my previous visit again. As for the upcoming season, I believe lighting up the fireplace in the lobby would enhance the atmosphere even more. If local regulations make it difficult, perhaps an ethanol fireplace could be a good alternative—please consider this as well. Lastly, thank you so much for helping me find my forgotten watch; it was truly appreciated.

    The sauna attached to the Room was excellent.

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay starting from September 18. The most impressive feature this time was the sauna attached to the Room. I have stayed at Accommodations with sauna Rooms several times, but this was the best experience. First, you can set the temperature yourself. The temperature range is from 60°C to 110°C, and I set it to 70°C. You can perform löyly yourself. While you can stop the operation manually, it automatically stops after six hours for safety reasons. The meals were delicious and just right in portion size for someone in their 60s like me; however, younger people might find it insufficient. If I have another opportunity, I would love to visit again!

    The staff were kind and attentive, making me want to visit again. It seems there are many repeat guests, which is understandable! The Onsen has a sulfuric quality, so Onsen enthusiasts will likely enjoy it. There's a lounge where the staff prepare cocktails one by one at the bar counter, and it's all-you-can-drink—an amazing service for guests, though it must be challenging for the staff.     Onsen is amazing~ Meals are excellent~

    While enjoying the autumn leaves, I decided on this accommodation that combines French cuisine with traditional kaiseki. The meals were highly satisfying in terms of quantity, quality, and presentation. The free drinks in the lounge were top-notch, especially the whiskey on the rocks, which had an excellent aroma and taste—I couldn't resist multiple refills! However, as we traveled with elderly family members, we found the lighting in the room, bathroom, and lobby to be too dim. It was difficult to see our footing or even use mobile phones comfortably. Although our room had an open-air bath attached, there was almost no lighting in the washing area, making it uncomfortable and leaving us unsure if we cleaned ourselves properly. Adjustable lighting would be a great improvement. Additionally, regarding the entrance of our room: it featured a push-type door but lacked a shoe rack. This caused shoes and slippers to pile up near the door and made opening/closing difficult—adding a small shoe rack would help significantly. While manageable for two people’s footwear needs, accommodating four was challenging. The service staff and public bath facilities were excellent overall. The Onsen's mineral composition and temperature were particularly outstanding!
