The facilities are impressive, but… (confused).
We stayed in a twin Room with a bath and sauna. When you sit on the sofa, the continuously flowing bathtub is right in front of you. There’s no other view, and it truly felt like an Accommodation made only for Onsen lovers. Naturally, throughout the stay you’re constantly surrounded by a strong sulfur smell—perfect for those who love sulfur springs. That said, although we were told “the source is 50°C so it may be hot,” for some reason the in-room bath was below body temperature, and the bottom was almost cold. We moved to the sauna to warm up, but relying on just the bath might be tough. There were hot/cold taps for adjusting the temperature, but it feels wasteful to dilute such a nice continuously flowing bath. The corner Room on the first floor had a spacious layout, but it was extremely dark. Even with every light on, we (middle-aged to older guests) could barely check what was inside our bags. It may not bother younger guests, but it’s difficult for elderly guests. Although we went to bed feeling great after soaking in the Onsen, we woke up in the middle of the night due to noise and couldn’t fall back asleep because it went on endlessly. Was it boiler noise? A low rumble continued constantly, with impact sounds like “thud!” “bang!” every few minutes. Everyone woke up. We tried forcing ourselves back to sleep but struggled; when we finally did fall asleep again later, we overslept badly and ended up late for breakfast… I still have no idea what that sound was, but I’m honestly too scared to stay in that same Room again. The large public bath was spacious and comfortable—perhaps because many Rooms have private baths—so it wasn’t crowded. The water temperature there was just right. However, someone I recognized as likely staff came in (which is fine), but then casually started brushing their teeth at one of the washing stations… I was shocked—this isn’t a neighborhood public bathhouse. For a Hotel that claims to be luxury, this is unacceptable. Dinner was delicious both visually and taste-wise—we really enjoyed it. Wine starts at 8,000 yen which is quite bold pricing; however some bottles are priced at about twice retail so I wouldn’t say they’re outrageously expensive. The lounge bar service also had a wide selection. The younger staff seemed like they were doing their best. Overall… it felt like a strange experience. The facilities are impressive and worth seeing, but many other aspects left us confused.

The Facility, meals, and baths were all excellent and truly relaxing!
Nestled in a wonderful setting, the Facility, baths, and meals were all very refined, and we were able to relax and truly enjoy our time off. Thank you very much. All of the staff also had such lovely smiles, and we were able to enjoy a great atmosphere. Thank you. One small thing I noticed during our interactions with the staff: it was nice that our requests were received with a smile, but afterward there were times when we did not receive any updates on the progress or a final response regarding what we had asked for. That was the only point that stood out to us. I understand some team members may still be getting used to things, so this is not a complaint—just something we wanted to mention. Thank you very much!

It was quite a nice accommodation.
Upon entering the building, there is a sulfur smell, and it becomes even stronger once you are shown to your Room. The bath was pleasant, with plenty of mineral deposits floating in the water and the temperature adjustable; however, I was disappointed to see on the large public bath’s ingredient chart that the spring source is low-temperature and that the water is heated, circulated, and chlorinated. Meals are served in two seatings; if you choose early, you can select between 5:30 PM and 7:45 PM. The tableware and presentation were elaborate, and everything was delicious. That said, it was a shame that the desserts (peach compote for dinner; pineapple, kiwi, and orange for breakfast) didn’t feel very seasonal. There is no shop on-site—only drink vending machines—so please keep that in mind.

Disappointed
We arrived at the Hotel in heavy rain, but there was no greeting, so our family unloaded the luggage ourselves. After checking in with the woman at the front desk, we were only told our Room number and had no idea where to go, as there was no guidance to the Room at all. The Room was very dark, so we called from the in-room phone to ask for an explanation. The woman who assisted us was very curt, showed no smile even when we asked questions, and it made us wonder whether she had received any customer service training. When we opened the curtains in the Room, dust flew up; the dehumidifier was also covered in dust; there was trash under the sofa; and although there was a message card on the table, this stay left us feeling uncomfortable rather than relaxed—very disappointing. The staff in the hall were helpful, but breakfast was also disappointing as even the rice and miso soup were cold.

An Accommodation with Exceptional Dining
A very quiet Accommodation where you can escape the usual hustle and bustle. The Rooms are clean, and overall the lighting is on the dim side, creating a calm atmosphere. Above all, the meals rank among the best of any Onsen Accommodation I have stayed at, and because the restaurant offers semi-private seating, you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed setting. The Onsen includes a private free-flowing semi-open-air bath in each Room as well as a large public bath (no open-air section), so you can enjoy it anytime. For further improvement in the future, I would like to suggest the following: 1: Because the Room is dark, it is difficult to read. I would like a reading light by the bed. 2: The sound of running water from the free-flowing semi-open-air bath can be noticeable while sleeping. Some adjustment may be needed. 3: After check-in, we were offered welcome drinks and sweets in the lounge; it would be nice to have an option to receive them in the Room. Overall, this is a wonderful Accommodation, and I would gladly stay again if given the opportunity. Thank you for a wonderful time.

A quiet Hotel in the forest
I stayed with my mother in her 80s. A Resort Hotel in the forest—we were able to relax quietly and take our time. The lobby, arranged with stone and wood, had a dignified, substantial atmosphere. The Room had plenty of indirect lighting, which felt very calming. However, if you want to read, it would be better to have a reading light. It was also nice to have a bath in the Room. The sulfur hot spring left my skin feeling smooth. At bedtime, the sound of running water was slightly noticeable. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented, and everything was delicious. It was also great that drinks were complimentary in the lounge. There is a large window in front of the counter, so you can feel close to the trees and nature outside. The staff were kind and very pleasant as well. I’d like to stay again.

A Long-Awaited Obon Holiday Trip
Although we usually avoid traveling during the Obon holidays, it was difficult to coordinate schedules for a family trip with our daughter now that she is working, so we ended up traveling during Obon. At Mori Shun no Kago / Hewitt Resort, we were able to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and fully enjoy the semi-open-air bath in our Room. The atmosphere was also wonderful. One thing that surprised us was receiving a phone call on the morning of our stay telling us our meal times. Even after checking the IKYU website again, it only stated: [Meals] Dinner: Japanese course meal 17:30–22:00 (last entry 20:30) Breakfast: Japanese set menu 7:00–10:00 (last entry 9:00) So we assumed we could choose freely within those hours. We never expected the times would be assigned on the day. Dinner was only available at 17:30. We had to adjust our plans at short notice and went earlier than planned. The other guests around us were mostly families with small children. It felt strange and raised concerns, but we prioritized enjoying our trip and chose not to complain. For breakfast, we were told it would be at 9:00 only. We had expected to be able to eat at 7:00, so it was unclear why we were assigned the latest time slot. I believe there should be a message during Reservation indicating that meal times will be assigned, but there was nothing like that, which was very disappointing. It is such a lovely Facility, so I hope for service that matches the Accommodation rate.

We drove there in a ...
We drove there in a rental car, but there were no road signs along the way, and the navigation system didn’t display properly, so we felt quite anxious until we arrived. The Hotel was new and spacious, and it felt like a world away from everyday life. Unfortunately, there was no mobile reception, so I couldn’t make an urgent call from my own phone. I think it’s perfect for a digital detox. The meals were excellent. We stayed for two nights, and none of the dishes were repeated, so we were very satisfied. Since I love Onsen baths, I wanted to use the bath in our Room many times. However, each person was provided with only one bath towel, and there were no bathrobes, so it was disappointing to have to reuse a wet towel multiple times. If only one towel is provided per person and you need time to dry it, it would have been nice to have an electric towel warmer. In any case, both the food and the staff service were wonderful. Thank you very much.

It may sound a bit harsh, but…
I often use IKYU, and this time I felt it was a bit hard to call it “luxury.” I was satisfied with the Onsen and the Room. If it may be helpful for the future, I’d like to share a few candid points that disappointed me. 1) Staff The person at check-in was curt, and at breakfast we were told, “We’ll come later to remove the lid from the pot,” but no one ever came. Overall, it didn’t feel like the staff truly cared about their Hotel. 2) Meals The meat was very delicious, and the other dishes were also creative and beautifully presented. However, perhaps because we had a later seating (we were told there would be a group earlier), some items seemed to have been prepared in advance; they had dried out on the surface, which was disappointing. 3) Facility I assume an older building has been renovated, but in places it still felt dated. 4) Drinks There was only water in the Room. There is no room service. In the lobby during the day there were sparkling wine and juice on a small table—help-yourself style (the check-in staff simply pointed and said “over there”)—but since several small children were gathered around it, I didn’t feel like taking any… Even though this is an IKYU-listed Accommodation, we ended up walking to a nearby convenience store to buy beer—like something from my younger days on a training camp. Given the reasonable price, I think it’s very good for staying in and relaxing in your private Onsen in the Room.

I was very satisfied.
This was my first stay, and the sulfur Onsen was wonderful. From the Hotel entrance, there was a pleasant sulfur scent that felt very relaxing. It would be even better if drink refills were available at breakfast, so I hope this can be improved in the future. Other than that, I have almost no complaints and was very satisfied.

This is a quiet Accommodation with a pleasant atmosphere, but a few small details concerned me.
As we visited on a weekday, the property was very quiet, with a calm, adult atmosphere, and we were able to relax and take our time. The service, overall ambiance, and the cleanliness and design of the guest Room were excellent; however, some small details felt like missed opportunities and left us slightly disappointed. [About the meals] Overall, the food was very delicious. However, we noticed differences between my spouse’s dishes and mine. For example, when comparing the abalone appetizer side by side, only my spouse’s had a noticeable odor; there was also an imbalance in the amount of breakfast side dishes. Given this Accommodation’s strong reputation for its cuisine, it felt like a shame. In addition, although dining is offered in two seatings and there should be ample seating capacity, we were seated very close to guests on both sides. Since the partitions are only fabric curtains (noren), we could clearly hear our neighbors’ conversations and could not fully relax or enjoy our meal. We would appreciate being seated with at least one seat left open if possible. [About the Room] The guest Room had a lovely atmosphere and was well cleaned and comfortable. However, there were a few points that concerned us: - Noise: The partition between the in-room bath and the Room did not seal well enough, so we could hear the sound of Onsen water pouring all night long and had difficulty sleeping. (We researched in advance using videos but did not notice this.) - Step/level difference: The step between the bath area and vanity was extremely hard to see; even though I knew it was there, I tripped 2–3 times during our stay and it hurt. - Light: When turned off, the TV logo remained illuminated and felt bright at bedtime. Because your staff’s hospitality and overall atmosphere were so wonderful, these negatives affecting sleep—such as noise and light—stood out more than they otherwise might have. Personally, it made it difficult to feel that this stay offered value commensurate with its price point, so I do not think I would return at this time. I hope improvements can be made regarding noise and light for sleeping comfort.

As a Michelin Key–aw...
As a Michelin Key–awarded Hotel, I stayed with high expectations. [What I liked] Dining: The quality was outstanding, and every dish was delicious—I was very satisfied. Room: The private open-air Onsen bath in the guest room with free-flowing natural spring water was truly exceptional. I could fully enjoy the wonderful water in complete privacy. [What concerned me / what I hope will improve] Facility and Room: The Room was quite dark, which created a nice atmosphere, but the washbasin area was also dark, making it difficult to do makeup. Since there are no convenience stores nearby, I would have appreciated an in-house shop within the Hotel. Service: During check-in, I was very concerned by a female staff member handling a phone call right next to us. She did not use polite language and spoke in a rather harsh tone. It may have been an internal call, but it happened directly in front of guests. Regardless of the situation, I wanted more professional consideration and appropriate language where guests can hear. It made me feel sad and abruptly brought back to reality. Manner enforcement in the public bath: When using the large public bath, there was a guest with tattoos covering their entire upper body. It felt intimidating and made me extremely uncomfortable and frightened. Many Hotels have bathing restrictions; how are checks at reception or patrols handled? [Overall] I have stayed at various Michelin Key–selected Hotels before, but this is my first time having such a disappointing experience. Because the physical aspects (the in-room Onsen bath and Facility) and dining quality were excellent, shortcomings in staff training (service) and rule enforcement stood out even more. I strongly hope for improvements going forward.

The stay did not meet my expectations.
I rarely write a Review, but this time I had several concerns and decided to post for the first time. I stayed alone in a Superior Twin Room. As an Accommodation featured in the Michelin Guide, I arrived with high expectations. The Onsen water quality was excellent, and I was able to relax. On the other hand, considering the price, the service and meals felt generally “average,” and I was not as satisfied as I had hoped. The most disappointing point was the Room location. My Room was on the second floor facing the parking lot, and when standing up in the semi-open-air bath on the terrace, it could be seen from the parking area. After checking from the parking lot myself, it was more visible than expected, and I felt that privacy had not been adequately considered in the design. This was especially disappointing precisely because it is a guest room with an open-air bath. When I asked the Accommodation staff, they said that even within the same Room type at the same rate there are mountain-side Rooms, and that assignment depends on Reservation status. However, this was not stated at the time of Reservation. Despite differences not only in view but also in privacy, I question presenting them as one identical Room type. At minimum, if details such as orientation, view, and individual Room characteristics were clearly provided during Reservation, I could have considered changing to a different Room type or grade before booking. Also, hot spring water flowed continuously into the tub (which was very nice). However, during sleep you can hear running water inside the Room as well; it wasn’t loud but may bother some guests. While the Onsen itself was great overall this did not match what I expected from a Michelin-listed Accommodation. If room conditions were clearly explained upfront I would consider returning but at this point I do not plan to stay again next time. I hope for improvements going forward.

A one-of-a-kind Accommodation you’ll want to stay at again and again!
This was my third stay, and once again the hospitality from the moment we arrived made me certain it would be a wonderful trip. The welcome drinks, fruit, and tea-time sweets always make my heart race with excitement, no matter how many times I visit. Everything in the property feels new and impeccably clean. The Room’s semi-open-air bath and private sauna are especially outstanding. I travel each time with my elderly mother, and being able to relax whenever we like without worrying about others is truly a luxury—an irreplaceable experience. Both the dinner course and the Japanese breakfast featured an abundance of seasonal local ingredients, and every dish was exquisite. After dinner, spending time in the lounge with drinks and snacks was pure bliss. My previous requests were clearly shared among the staff, and their thoughtful attention made for a truly heartwarming stay. There is no open-air bath in the large public bath area, but the milky white sulfur Onsen warms you through to your core. I consider other Hotels as well, but in the end I always find myself drawn back to Mori Shun no Kago Hewitt Resort. It is a one-of-a-kind Accommodation that I will definitely return to again.

Thinking About Customer Service
I am an IKYU Diamond member year-round, and this is my first time writing a Review. This time, I made a Reservation for the Ooruri Suite (3 guests) and a Standard Room for my father-in-law and mother-in-law (2 guests), for a total of five people. My wife chose this Hotel because it is close to central Tokyo where we live, and because it has a strong reputation for good service. Check-in was at 14:00, and we arrived at 14:30. It was pouring rain that day. There was no greeting at arrival, so we were soaked. When we tried to check in, two other parties were already being assisted, and there were only two staff members at the front desk. We were not guided anywhere or offered towels; we were simply told to sit wherever there was space. I assumed they might be short-staffed, but then I saw two other staff members in the back preparing tea for those two parties—so it seemed they had enough staff to assist us as well. After waiting about 10 minutes, our check-in began. During the explanation, my wife asked what time check-out was, but she was told to listen until the end before asking questions. My wife almost got upset, so I answered that it was 11:00. For welcome drinks, we were told there were only three options: green tea, roasted green tea (hojicha), or herbal tea. Since that did not make sense to me, I declined—then bean daifuku was served. Only then did I understand why only tea was offered because it came with sweets; I wish this had been explained upfront. The Room itself was good. The sulfur Onsen also felt beneficial and improved my mood. However, when I entered the bath (I weigh about 90 kg), stones laid on the bottom shifted up and small pieces—like pebbles or glass fragments—came out, cutting the sole of my foot. I called the front desk to explain what happened; they brought an extremely small bandage—the smallest possible size—and said they had nothing larger when I asked. This response felt unbelievable; an injury like this could even lead to legal issues depending on circumstances. Later on, a fragment remained in my foot sole and I had to go to a hospital in central Tokyo afterward due to severe pain. There also appeared to be young guests with tattoos next door; when passing their door there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke from regular cigarettes. No one in our family smokes at all, so it felt very unpleasant. They also entered the large public bath normally while wearing short sleeves and shorts as if intentionally showing their tattoos. My wife repeatedly blamed me for choosing a place with poor service standards as well. What should have been an enjoyable trip became extremely uncomfortable overall. I strongly felt that management should improve staffing allocation and enforce consistent service standards more thoroughly. I read all Reviews as well before booking; dinner dishes were delicious—I could tell the head chef is excellent.

At check-out there was no help with luggage or send-off—and of course no apology either. The beginning and end are important. The food and Rooms are good overall—but this stay left me very disappointed.

A Luxurious Hot Spring Retreat in Nasu
As soon as I stepped into the building, I was a little surprised by the strong sulfur scent in the air. Strangely enough, I gradually got used to it, and it only bothered me at first. At check-in, they casually offered a Room upgrade, saying, “We have a slightly larger Room available than the one in your Reservation today.” I truly appreciated that thoughtful gesture and immediately felt glad and relieved that we had chosen this Accommodation. The bath in the Room was just as wonderful as I had imagined. I could relax without worrying about anything. Even after bathing, my body stayed warm for a long time, and I really felt the benefits of the Onsen. Each time we went to the large public bath, it was almost like having it to ourselves—such comfort that comes with an Accommodation of this size—and I was able to unwind completely. The spacious, pure-white tub was impressive, and it made me feel the richness of the Onsen even more. My skin became so smooth that I couldn’t help but praise it as a “beautifying bath.” Dinner was beautiful from the very start—and truly delicious. I began with beer but quickly ordered sake as well; these dishes make you want another drink while you eat. It was outstanding. The staff’s explanations of each dish were very thorough, which made everything taste even better—an added bonus effect. Breakfast also offered an abundant variety of items laid out little by little in front of us—it felt luxurious. Perhaps because it’s a morning meal, some dishes were lightly seasoned and gently comforting Japanese cuisine overall. The aroma of the miso soup broth was wonderful; we both had seconds. Both dinner and breakfast were such enjoyable times that conveyed this Accommodation’s dedication to its cuisine. Looking back afterward, one thing stood out: it would have been nicer if the pajama top and bottoms were made from the same fabric. Only the bottoms felt like nylon, and when I perspired after bathing they sometimes felt slightly uncomfortable. It may depend on seasonality, but especially going forward into warmer weather, I’d be happy if they were made from a material that doesn’t feel sticky when you sweat. Both the Onsen and meals were wonderfully indulgent in every way—but above all else، my mind and body felt healed here۔ Now that we’re home، we’re already thinking about coming back again to enjoy this Accommodation through all four seasons۔ Come to think of it، I'm feeling great too!

The Onsen was excellent—milky white like Kusatsu and with a strong sulfur smell, but gentle on the skin. I didn’t feel unwell from the hot water and went in many times. As for the food, I personally can’t say it was delicious (a matter of preference). It looked luxurious and appetizing, but the flavors lacked contrast. I think both the meat and vegetables were good quality, but the seasoning didn’t suit me. Also, when returning my Room key card at checkout, I handed it to a heavyset male staff member at the front desk and said “Thank you very much,” but he didn’t even look up from his computer—he just gave a small nod and that was it. Maybe he simply didn’t hear me (but if my voice was so quiet that he couldn’t hear it, I feel that’s basically the same as not responding), yet shouldn’t basic courtesy include at least looking away from the computer or standing up? I don’t particularly need to be seen off (other guests did receive a send-off—maybe because of their Room grade), so that part doesn’t bother me, but I’m extremely disappointed.

An Adults-Only Hideaway
This was our first time choosing a small Hotel, and we’re glad we stayed here. The sulfur Onsen is simply wonderful. As soon as you enter the Room, you can really smell the sulfur. It had been a long time since I’d seen yunohana (mineral deposits). The view of fresh greenery filling the entire window from the in-room bath is outstanding. The meals were also great. They offer welcome drinks such as wine and fruit. I had daifuku and genmaicha—both were delicious. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but it was excellent, and my husband and I are already talking about coming back. In a word: a quiet, adults-only hidden Accommodation.

Anniversary Trip
Thank you very much for taking care of us. Regarding the meals, we’re sorry for the many foods we were unable to eat. This was our first stay here. We stayed in a Deluxe Room on the first floor with an open-air bath. It was very spacious, and we had a comfortable stay. Outside the window, we were surrounded by deep fresh greenery, and enjoyed bathing while feeling refreshed by nature. We used the large public bath twice, and there was no one else there either time—so it felt like having it all to ourselves, and we fully enjoyed the spacious cloudy hot spring bath. In the evening lounge, we stopped by briefly; since I don’t drink alcohol, we returned to our Room and relaxed completely. It was my mother’s birthday, and it became a wonderful trip that will remain a special memory for us. When we were leaving, a female staff member kindly took photos for us and even came outside to check on us—she took pictures of my mother and me together. We were so happy—thank you very much! We would love to visit again someday.

A guestroom with a semi-open-air bath featuring exceptional hot spring water quality. A relaxing Accommodation you’ll want to return to.
This was my first time staying at this Accommodation for two nights. With a semi-open-air bath in the Room featuring free-flowing natural Onsen water, it was the perfect setting to relax and enjoy a quiet stay without worrying about others—an Accommodation I would definitely like to return to. Before arrival, they kindly confirmed in detail by email which ingredients I cannot eat, which gave me great peace of mind. The meals I had been looking forward to were especially outstanding on the first night’s dinner and the following morning’s breakfast—both beautifully presented and delicious. That said, perhaps because my expectations had risen so high, there were a few aspects of the second day’s meals and the final morning’s breakfast that felt slightly disappointing, though overall everything was enjoyable. I was also happy with how well-stocked the lounge drink selection was. The bath in the Room can only be described as exceptional. The water quality was excellent, and I could fully enjoy genuine free-flowing Onsen water to my heart’s content. Being semi-open-air, it allowed me to feel a pleasant breeze while soaking for a long time in comfort. The water did tend to become a bit lukewarm from late night into early morning, so it may be worth keeping that in mind. Also, having tea available in addition to coffee and herbal tea among the in-room drinks would have made it even more perfect. With hopes for some minor improvements, I’m giving 4 stars; however, including how wonderful the Onsen water is, it was an indulgent and very comfortable stay overall. Thank you very much.

Everything was excellent—from the guest room and bath to the meals. Because the room has a semi-open-air bath, I could enjoy the Onsen many times and truly relax both body and mind.

It was the perfect holiday.
Thank you very much for the wonderful hospitality on my mother’s birthday. She was moved to tears, saying she had never had such a wonderful day. The food, the Room, the bath, the sauna, and the staff were all refined—everything was perfect. The person who took our photo at the end was especially wonderful. Please convey our thanks. We look forward to staying with you again.

The Onsen and the meals were excellent.
The sulfur-rich Onsen was very relaxing. The meals were delicious, and the portions were just right. The staff were kind and attentive, which made our stay very comfortable. One drawback was that at night, the sound from the semi-open-air bath attached to each Room was noticeable. I thought it would be better if there were a glass door that could completely separate it from the Room.

The Onsen and meals were excellent.
I found it slightly discounted on IKYU.com like a limited-time sale, so my friend and I quickly matched our schedules and made a Reservation. It felt like a stylish Hotel nestled in the forests of Nasu. We stayed in a Room with an in-room bath. The hospitality was excellent, from the welcome drink to the bar after dinner. The hot spring was a sulfur spring, and although it was chilly after a typhoon, it warmed me up so much that I couldn’t stop sweating—really wonderful. The meal can only be described as outstanding! They said it was “a new taste where tradition and creativity intersect,” and each dish truly lived up to that. Japanese-style dashi flavors paired with Western elements, sushi with the aroma of truffle… The corn soup and the young corn cream puff were especially delicious. It made me want to come back in another season to enjoy seasonal dishes again! As for the Room, it felt almost entirely taken up by the bed, so relaxing basically meant staying on the bed. There’s a sofa set directly under the TV, but you can only really watch TV from the bed. Also, because the sink is located in an area without air conditioning where the bath is, even after bathing—when you’re still sweating—you end up using a hair dryer in that hot and humid space, so I basically gave up on styling my hair. I wondered if summer would be even tougher… That said, everything necessary was compactly arranged into a small space; while there were some inconveniences, I admired how thoughtfully it was designed. The service was excellent. The timing of serving dishes and explanations were handled naturally while attentively reading our pace, so we could enjoy our conversation without being interrupted. Considering the Room size and minor inconveniences, I hesitate at paying full price—but given the food and service quality, I still feel we had more than enough enjoyment from our stay.

The meals are outstanding!
Once a year, I travel with my best friend. Now that we’re done raising our children, we’re excited to see how much we can enjoy ourselves. I’ve finally reached a point where I can spend a bit more time and money on myself, and I want to make the most of it with no regrets. This trip is also the only time I get to see my best friend. We’ve taken several luxurious trips, but this was by far the best meal we’ve ever had. The cuisine was Japanese with a Western twist, and it was absolutely satisfying—both the flavors and presentation were outstanding. Another highlight was the small but excellent team of staff. There was no unnecessary fuss; check-in and welcome drinks were handled smoothly by just a few people. The restaurant service was also run by a small team, yet everything—from evening drink service to morning coffee—was attentive and well organized. It was truly wonderful. Next time, I’d like to upgrade the Room category a bit—this is a Hotel I definitely want to return to.

It was good, but…
We stayed as a couple in the Ooruri Suite. We were not satisfied with the Room layout/flow, but the overall atmosphere was nice. The Onsen temperature was low, so we kept adding hot water while bathing. On top of that, around 7:00 a.m. the Onsen stopped running. When we asked the front desk, they said it would start again if we waited a bit… but it never did. So in the morning we couldn’t use the bath and only used the sauna and shower. For dinner, we chose the late seating at 19:45. Guests next to us from the 17:30 seating were still there and seemed to be having a very lively time. Since it’s only a simple semi-private room setup, their pub-like chatter was overwhelming and unpleasant. Without issues with the Onsen temperature and the restaurant experience, I would have rated this much higher.
