    It was the best family trip.

    We stayed here for a family trip with my parents. At check-in, the staff explained the building while we enjoyed the beautiful garden view, which helped us understand the Accommodation even better. The welcome sweets and tea we were served were also delicious. As I am pregnant, I mentioned that I was avoiding caffeine, raw foods, and alcohol. They kindly switched the coffee prepared in our Room to decaf, provided non-caffeinated sword bean tea, and changed the tea served with meals to black soybean tea. I was truly impressed by their warm hospitality. Dinner was excellent as well. They even accommodated me with a separate menu, and I really appreciated their thoughtful attention to detail. Every dish was delicious, the portions were just right, and it was a wonderful meal overall. The private Onsen in our Room could be enjoyed 24 hours a day whenever we liked, which was fantastic. My parents seemed very satisfied too. This was our last family trip before our baby arrives, and we are truly glad we chose to stay here. Once things settle down, we would love to return and stay in a different Room as well.

    An amazing, great-value Accommodation

    Many Accommodations in Kyoto feel overpriced, but this Accommodation was truly reasonably priced, with beautiful views, and we were able to relax and fully enjoy our stay. The staff’s hospitality was excellent, and we really appreciated all their thoughtful care. The amenities were safe to use even for sensitive skin, and the Onsen water quality was great! This time we booked No Meals Included, but next time we’d love to enjoy the meals as well. It’s an Accommodation we’d definitely like to return to.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    This is a wonderful Accommodation that preserves Japan’s traditions and culture while making excellent use of a historic building. With only a few Rooms, the property is quiet and serene, and the dining area feels truly calming. For both dinner and breakfast, we enjoyed outstanding dishes made with carefully selected ingredients while looking out at the garden through perfectly clear glass—an experience of pure bliss. The staff’s warm, smiling hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable.

    A welcoming Accommodation that makes you want to come back again and again

    Honestly, it was excellent. First of all, everything was very clean, and I felt comfortable throughout my stay. More than that, what impressed me most was how this Accommodation really lets you experience the warmth of both the people and the town. The staff were incredibly courteous, with a reassuring kindness that made it truly relaxing to be there. Even though I was visiting as a tourist, I felt a sense of comfort—almost like coming home. You can tell they genuinely care about this place, including the surrounding streetscape, and it made my stay feel like more than just spending the night—it was simply a wonderful time. It’s an Accommodation that honestly made me want to come back.

    It was a truly wonderful accommodation.

    On my first trip to Kyoto in 10 years, I wanted an Onsen, so I made a Reservation here because of its convenient location and high ratings. This time I chose No Meals Included since there were restaurants I wanted to try, but the water quality was excellent and both the Room and lounge were wonderful—so much so that I regretted not staying longer. Although I didn’t dine here, it was truly a lovely Accommodation, and I would definitely like to stay again next time.

    I had a very relaxin...

    I had a very relaxing and wonderful time. I stayed on the second floor (Orange) of the Western-style building, which had high ceilings and a spacious feel, providing a sense of openness. Since it was not adjacent to other rooms, I could enjoy a quiet time without worrying about others. The hotel staff's service was excellent. The meals were Japanese cuisine featuring ingredients from Awaji Island and Kyoto, and they were absolutely delicious. While desserts in Japanese cuisine are sometimes not as impressive, these desserts were exquisite. The long hours for using the café were also appreciated.

    It was a disappointing accommodation.

    I made a reservation in June at a Ryokan my wife had always wanted to visit. The reservation date coincided with her birthday, and since it was her 60th, I inquired about arranging a surprise cake. Unfortunately, they did not offer such services but allowed bringing one to the room. However, unfamiliar with the area, I gave up on getting a cake. During dinner, cakes were delivered to neighboring tables amidst much celebration. When I asked the hostess about this, she mentioned that due to high demand, they started offering this service about a month ago. It would have been thoughtful if they had informed us during their confirmation call (which we returned as we missed their initial call). My wife only received a "Congratulations" message written in chocolate on her dessert plate—leaving me feeling deeply apologetic. Additionally, though we booked a spacious room, there were large empty spaces that felt poorly designed and uninviting. Footsteps from other rooms echoed loudly and were quite bothersome. While the bath claimed to use Onsen water, it lacked the characteristic warmth that lingers after bathing. For the price paid, this accommodation was highly disappointing. We will definitely not return for another stay.

    Renovation

    There was a mysterious step in the Room, likely due to renovation, which was slightly high and made it difficult to step up. The chair-like object placed there looked uncomfortable and uninviting, so I couldn't sit on it. Although the Onsen in the Room was a highlight, it was disappointing to see workers wearing helmets walking relatively close by from the neighboring building construction early in the morning. The breakfast service was excellent with detailed explanations and attentive serving—absolutely wonderful.

    Dear Hotel Utano Kyo...

    Dear Hotel Utano Kyoto Villa, I stayed with a friend for 2 nights and 3 days starting from November 13th, and I wanted to express my gratitude through this message. From the moment we arrived until our last day, we were deeply touched by your warm hospitality, friendly smiles, and the wonderful facility. We couldn’t help but feel excited and moved throughout our stay. During meals, I was especially grateful for your thoughtful consideration regarding my sensitivity to spicy food. Everything was truly delicious. If possible, it would be lovely if the adorable hanten jackets available in the facility could be made purchasable. During our stay and even after returning home, my friend and I have repeatedly said to each other how much fun we had and promised that we will definitely come back again. Thanks to all of you, this trip with my dear friend has become an even more special memory. Thank you so much for everything!

    Anniversaries...

    The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were completely unenjoyable. During dinner, we were seated right next to a large and noisy banquet that lasted for two hours, causing significant stress and affecting my health. Our modest anniversary dinner as a couple was ruined. At breakfast, the table was unbearably hot due to intense sunlight shining directly on us. Despite it being November, I ended up sweating profusely from the heat during the meal. The dining experience was disappointing overall. Although the building has historical significance, I regret choosing this Hotel as it lacked hospitality reflective of its history.

    Stayed in a Western-style room. It was a unique type of accommodation where you take off your shoes at the facility entrance, and the room's facilities were excellent for relaxation. The personalized services, such as taking family photos and thoughtful interactions, reflected the meticulous care typical of a small-scale accommodation. The garden view from the dining area was particularly exceptional. If I had to mention one downside, it would be that traffic noise from the road was quite audible in the guest room. However, I understand this is due to the traditional structure of the building.

    It was a wonderful accommodation that I would love to stay at again.

    We stayed in the Wakatake Room with three people. The room in the new building was spacious and very clean. The private bath was an onsen, and we were happy to be able to use it anytime. One of our friends had to leave early in the morning due to personal reasons, but breakfast was prepared at 7:30 for one person and at 8:30 for two people, allowing us to relax and enjoy our morning. The lounge drinks, snacks, meals, and gelato were all delicious and very satisfying. Ninna-ji Temple, within walking distance from the accommodation, was impressive and allowed us to fully enjoy Kyoto. It was a wonderful accommodation that we would love to stay at again!

    I was very satisfied.

    It was my first time staying, and I was thoroughly satisfied not only with the building but also with the service, bath, and breakfast (no dinner included). The breakfast, in particular, had great seasoning that even I, who am not fond of vegetables, enjoyed—and I ended up having seconds of rice. Thank you to all the staff!

    Dining Out

    Since we did not make a dinner reservation, we decided to go out to eat. The staff provided us with a list of nearby restaurants, and there were about 10 near Ninna-ji Temple. However, after taking the Randen train to get there, all of them were closed. I believe the Hotel should consider guests who cannot dine on-site. It would have been helpful if dinner options were discussed during the accommodation reservation process. Suggestions for partner restaurants or delivery services should be considered in advance. In remote locations like this, such arrangements are essential; otherwise, the kitchen should at least accommodate staying guests. As for the Onsen bath, after filling it with water, there was a constant buzzing sound that made me uncomfortable. I got out quickly and called the front desk to check it out—they mentioned something about the bath plug not being properly sealed—but I didn’t fully understand what went wrong. It was disappointing since it was supposed to be an Onsen experience. Additionally, there was a significant step in and out of the bath that felt slippery and made entering very difficult. Overall, given my expectations beforehand, many aspects turned out to be disappointing.

    We created wonderful memories.

    The accommodation had a calm atmosphere with few inbound guests, allowing for a relaxing stay. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the heartfelt hospitality was evident. Although some reviews mentioned "large portions," it conveyed the accommodation's desire to offer plenty of delicious food. A couple of points to note: there were no screens on the windows, so we couldn't enjoy the lovely garden view with the windows open. Additionally, while we stayed as a group of three, there were only soft drinks in the refrigerator for two people. Providing enough for all guests would enhance comfort further. Overall, it was a wonderful accommodation where we enjoyed a pleasant and comfortable time. Thank you very much!

    It was an amazing experience!

    We stayed as three generations of a family. The staff quickly accommodated sudden changes to the Shuttle Service, and their thoughtful attention made our stay very pleasant! We apologize for the trouble caused by our forgotten items. The Room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The amenities were excellent, even including steam eye masks. When we went out for gelato, the staff who assisted us was incredibly friendly and left a great impression. Breakfast with freshly cooked rice was delicious. Everyone had a satisfying stay! We would love to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you so much!

    Highly Satisfied

    We are a couple in our 60s. We travel somewhere every month during breaks from work. This accommodation has become one of the places we want to visit again. It is a calm and relaxing accommodation with only 10 rooms. Shuttle service was provided to JR Hanazono Station, and we were thrilled to ride in a brand-new Alphard, which made us feel amazing! It was the best shuttle service vehicle we've experienced so far. The meals were very satisfying in both quantity and quality. From 9 PM, alcohol (wine, whiskey, and snacks) was available in the lobby. Unfortunately, beer and sake were not offered. In the room's refrigerator, bottled beer was available for an additional charge while tea, soda water, and regular water were complimentary. As part of the Gion Festival Plan, gelato was included—and it was incredibly delicious! Next time we visit, I am sure we'll have it again even if it's for an extra charge. For reference: one cup of gelato costs 500 yen (a bit pricey but worth it). The staff's language and manners were very pleasant and made our stay comfortable. If I had to make one suggestion: the hallway on the second floor lacked air conditioning and felt very hot compared to the cool first-floor hallway during our stay from July 30th–31st when temperatures can be quite high without cooling systems. Overall though, we had an extremely satisfying experience—thank you so much!

    I stayed with my son's family at the accommodation. On the day of our stay, my husband was feeling unwell and could not have dinner at the dining area, but you kindly brought it to our room. Thank you very much for your thoughtful service, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused. You were also very considerate towards my energetic grandson and pregnant daughter-in-law, not only regarding the meals but in every aspect of our stay. I truly appreciate it. As for myself, I was in great health and thoroughly enjoyed both the cuisine and the hotel stay. The dishes were visually delightful, refined in taste, and delicious until the very last bite. If given another opportunity, we would love to visit again. Thank you so much!

    A Relaxing Space

    We stayed during the Obon holiday. The staff were kind to children, and the gelato shop inside the Ryokan was delicious. The Onsen was also wonderful, which gave us great energy to tackle work after the holiday. Thank you very much for this experience!

    First and foremost, the meals are exceptional. Not only is the food itself outstanding, but the ambiance of the dining space and the attentive service from staff make for an unforgettable experience. The joy of indulging in delicious dishes to your heart's content can truly be found here. Additionally, with an Onsen directly available in the room, you can enjoy a relaxing bath at your convenience without any hassle of moving around. However, there were a few points that could be improved. When I visited the lounge around 5 PM to relax, it was closed due to dinner preparations. Public spaces for relaxation are an important aspect of accommodations like this, so I hope this can be reconsidered. Also, I noticed that staff at the attached shop lacked smiles; it would enhance guests' experiences if they could provide more supportive and welcoming service for travelers looking to enjoy their stay fully.

    It was wonderful!

    Thank you for your hospitality during our stay. As it was the hot season of the Gion Festival, we chose to relax and recover from daily fatigue rather than sightseeing. The welcome sweets enjoyed while admiring the beautifully maintained garden, along with gelato from the charming gelato shop and coffee, were delightful. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were exquisitely presented and more than enough in quantity but absolutely delicious. The room was spacious, and being able to enjoy the onsen 24 hours a day was fantastic. The staff provided attentive service, making our stay very comfortable. If I may suggest anything, it would be nice to have a full-length mirror in the room. Additionally, we found it slightly challenging to adjust the room temperature due to some issues with the air conditioner's touch panel responsiveness. However, these minor points were easily overshadowed by how wonderful this accommodation is! We hope to visit again during a colder season. Thank you very much!

    Enjoy a beautiful Ryokan with natural Onsen.

    A sophisticated Ryokan renovated from a historic Kyoto residence, featuring a refined blend of traditional and modern Japanese styles. The accommodation offers a variety of beautiful rooms, from Western-style to Japanese-style. This time, we stayed in the modern Japanese-style "Nadeshiko" room. The room was spacious and impeccably clean, with a subtle scent of wood lingering in the air. Each room is equipped with its own private natural Onsen bath, allowing for a relaxing soak without any concerns. The meals were all exquisite, showcasing premium ingredients such as fresh vegetables from Awaji Island's rich produce selection. Beyond the meals, there was an impressive variety of beverages including alcohol and soft drinks as well as Western sweets to enjoy—truly satisfying! We also tried their specialty gelato (available for an additional charge), which was absolutely delicious. Located about 10 minutes by train from the famous Arashiyama area, this Ryokan is highly recommended for those planning to explore nearby attractions.

    The historical building has been functionally renovated while preserving its original atmosphere, providing a wonderful experience. Despite the unfortunate weather, I enjoyed relaxing in the lounge while admiring the rainy garden and indulging in gelato. It was a meaningful stay. The food was delicious, though nothing particularly stood out, which was slightly disappointing. However, the service was impeccable.     I stayed with my elderly parents at this accommodation. It is a charming accommodation with a garden, and in the quiet environment, my parents greatly enjoyed the garden views. The meals were delicious, each dish carefully prepared, and the tableware showed great attention to detail, making for a truly fulfilling dinner time. The room was clean and comfortable, and all the staff provided warm and courteous service, allowing us to enjoy our stay from start to finish.     We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. My mother, who was born in Kyoto, said, "The building and meals are perfect. I've stayed at many accommodations before, but this is truly the best one. Thank you for choosing such a perfect place for my 90th birthday celebration." My spouse and I were also extremely satisfied! Despite being a historic old building, it offered spacious rooms, fluffy beds, a beautiful garden, perfectly balanced onsen facilities, and absolutely delicious meals. Both dinner and breakfast were delightful. The staff members were young but had wonderful smiles and made us feel very comfortable with their pleasant demeanor. We felt a quiet yet thoughtful hospitality throughout our stay. Thank you for taking care of us. We would love to visit again!

    Perfect Hospitality

    Head north on Route 162 (Shuzan Kaido) from central Kyoto. When approaching from Marutamachi Street, be cautious when turning right as Shuzan Kaido has an overpass. Upon driving into the property facing the road, staff waiting at the entrance will assist with unloading luggage (it was a rainy day, and they kindly held umbrellas). The parking lot is slightly challenging to navigate, but guidance is precise. The accommodation matches the photos online. The old building features traditional Japanese-style rooms arranged in a "rice field" layout, with one large room facing a spacious southern garden that serves as a lobby, dining area, or salon depending on the time of day. The old building has been renovated and expanded with a two-story accommodation wing surrounding an inner courtyard on its northern side. The seamless integration of new and old architecture is impressive. Upon arrival and entering your room, explanations are thorough and attentive. Rooms are spacious, clean, and feature bright interiors that highlight natural wood textures. On the northern side of the room lies a road at a lower level resembling a cut-through path; however, it’s quiet with minimal foot traffic and greenery providing privacy. The private bath windows cannot be fully opened but allow airflow through them. While temperatures remain comfortable throughout your stay, reheating bathwater does not seem possible. Meals consist of beautifully presented dishes featuring both seafood and mountain ingredients. Allergy accommodations are flawless. Although meals are served in shared dining spaces rather than private rooms—which initially caused some concern—the other guests were all quiet and considerate. The serving staff's elegant demeanor is remarkable; their ability to anticipate guests' needs without being asked demonstrates exceptional attentiveness that leaves a lasting impression.

    It was beautiful and lovely.

    The building is beautiful, and the interior was kept incredibly clean, which made for a very satisfying stay. The food was also delicious; however, the portions were far too large. It was so excessive that it upset our stomachs. We stayed as a group of three, and all of us experienced this issue. It's unfortunate because the taste was excellent. We kindly request that you consider reducing the portion sizes slightly so guests can fully enjoy the final delicious dessert comfortably. Thank you!

    Not just traditional architecture...

    As this is an old Japanese-style building, we were somewhat prepared, but the footsteps from the second floor were quite loud, even late at night and early in the morning, causing us to lose sleep. Regarding the meals, there was nothing particularly impressive in terms of taste—it was average. The soba noodles were honestly not very good. Additionally, as I am not fond of meat, I appreciated that my main dish was changed to salmon; however, for some reason, my husband’s main dish (who enjoys meat) was also salmon. When I asked a staff member if both meals are adjusted when one guest has dietary restrictions, they hesitated before saying that is not the case. So why did this happen? Furthermore, soy sauce served with sashimi contained a small insect resembling a mosquito—almost leading me to consume it accidentally. The Onsen requires guests to fill it themselves; if it cools down during use, you need to refill it again manually—a bit labor-intensive. As for service quality: while aiming for a balance between attentiveness and distance might have been intended, there were noticeable shortcomings in attentiveness overall. Staff would only respond when asked or act upon specific requests—it felt lacking in initiative or care. Perhaps this approach caters more toward inbound tourists? Unfortunately for us personally though—it didn’t result in an enjoyable stay experience overall which left disappointment lingering behind instead!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    Thank you for your thoughtful assistance even before the check-in time. Before heading out for cherry blossom viewing, the host of the accommodation mentioned that dinner would be plentiful and something to look forward to, and it truly was a feast for both the eyes and palate. We had a wonderful time enjoying an array of dishes and discovered many new ways of eating. Our room was on the first floor, so unfortunately, we could hear some noises from upstairs late into the night, which made it slightly difficult to sleep. However, we understand that these things happen. We hope to visit again someday to enjoy a relaxing meal while admiring the spacious garden.
