    Superb Ayu Kaiseki Cuisine

    The creative presentation and menu made us excited to try dishes we’d never had before, and the flavors exceeded our expectations—my 99-year-old mother was especially delighted. Seeing how well she was eating, they kindly made rice balls and packed some side dishes to go with them, so we could enjoy them again later in our Room after a short break. All the staff were very kind and supportive, helping with a wheelchair and cushions, which we truly appreciated. With a soba restaurant and a bakery on the grounds, we didn’t need to stop at crowded service areas; everything could be taken care of at Kanshukuen, so we didn’t have to worry about getting in and out of the car. I would recommend it for anyone traveling with elderly family members. One suggestion: while breakfast is plentiful, it lacks impact—perhaps changing how it’s served (for example, in tiered boxes or split into two courses) would make it more memorable.

    The Room and meals were excellent.

    The Room was clean, the bath temperature was just right, and every ayu dish at Japanese Restaurant En was outstanding. Just one thing: I understand the concept of encouraging guests to spend time quietly, but I think it would be better to have a TV available, even if only as a loaner.

    Exceptional Dining and Pairings

    We had a relaxing stay in a quiet, lovely Room.

    The building and facilities were excellent. It was a luxurious Eiheiji Onsen with free-flowing natural hot spring water, and it completely relieved all my daily fatigue. The meals were creative Japanese cuisine. I tried steamed egg custard with salted sea urchin for the first time, and it was delicious. It was the season for ayu dishes, but I felt one meat dish would have been nice as well. With an open kitchen, I really wanted to try a meat dish... Breakfast was a bit disappointing. Given the atmosphere, I think a Western-style breakfast might suit better. I hope it can be improved into a breakfast that makes guests want to come back. What disappointed me was breakfast...

    Inbound tourism

    There was nothing unnecessary in the Room (including a clock or TV), and the Kuzuryu River and rice fields spread out right in front of me. There was also a veranda-like space, which felt very calming. The interior used understated, high-quality items, with wood elements incorporated beautifully. The bath was free-flowing from the source, and the space was spacious—no complaints. What disappointed me was that at dinner there were five or six Chinese-speaking foreign guests in a group besides me. From the start they were so loud it felt like they had booked the place exclusively, making a huge commotion without any consideration for other guests. I thought they might settle down after having one pairing drink, but it only escalated. None of the staff said anything (or couldn’t). With no other choice I called the front desk and told them I wanted to leave, and only then was I moved to another room. By that point my mood had completely dropped... I pulled myself together and finished everything, but it may end up being a bad memory. For the final rice course as part of the presentation, it might have been better if it had more of a crab presence. Because this Accommodation is built around the concept of enjoying time quietly, it ended up leaving a bad aftertaste. (Also, there were no IKYU Diamond benefits.)

    The Room and the fre...

    The Room and the free-flowing Onsen were great, but the meals were disappointing. I wanted to try a variety of Kokuryu Sake Brewery’s sake, so I ordered a sake pairing to match the meal. However, there was no menu, so I couldn’t tell what would be served or how many courses there would be. The sake portions were only about tasting size, and I was surprised when warm sake was served mid-meal with the explanation that it was “for two dishes.” If possible, I would have preferred to enjoy chilled sake. Breakfast was also surprisingly simple for an Accommodation in this class—so modest it felt like vegetarian Buddhist cuisine. Perhaps my expectations were too high because the food reviews were so good, but it was truly disappointing.

    The ultimate experience to immerse yourself in the world of Zen

    I stayed at Kanshuku-en ESHIKOTO for four nights over the New Year holidays, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The highlights were the crab dishes and the Onsen. Every crab dish was outstanding, bringing out the best of the ingredients and letting me fully enjoy winter’s seasonal flavors. The Onsen, nestled in a quiet mountain setting, was deeply soothing—simply soaking made both body and mind feel completely relaxed. The scenery throughout my stay was equally memorable: mystical clouds rising from the mountains, and a dreamlike winter landscape as snow gently settled on the trees. Everything was breathtakingly beautiful, as if time had stopped. A zazen meditation experience at nearby Eiheiji Temple also made the trip especially meaningful. Spending quiet time facing myself in its solemn, crystal-clear atmosphere was truly rare. I also joined the early-morning service where trainee monks chant sutras; it was bitterly cold with falling snow, but it became a precious moment to reset my mind. Overall, it was a journey that fulfilled my heart, body, and all five senses—an ideal way to spend New Year’s. I hope to return again this coming year-end.

    Operated by Fukui’s renowned Kokuryu Sake Brewery, Kanshuku-en ESHIKOTO is a refined auberge where sake, cuisine, and nature come together. Guests can join a guided brewery tour, including the impressive cellar in the Garyu Building, where each bottle is carefully aged by hand. After check-in, welcome sake and beverages are served at the bar. Opened in 2024, the property features eight standalone villas. We stayed in JOY III, a calm and elegant space with lacquerware furnishings, curated art, and a semi-open-air onsen overlooking pastoral scenery and the Kuzuryu River. Dining at the French restaurant Cadre showcases Fukui’s local ingredients through refined techniques, beautifully paired with Kokuryu sake and wine. Breakfast at Acoya—enjoyed with river and mountain views—completes a serene and immersive stay that truly reflects Fukui’s terroir.

    The Room was excellent, but it was unfortunate that the bathroom windows couldn't be fully opened due to the surrounding environment. Dinner was delicious, but it was also disappointing that it didn't feel very relaxing.

    Tranquil Scenery

    I had stayed at SUIKIYO several times before, and when I heard they opened a new accommodation in Fukui, I wanted to visit if given the chance. Finally, my wish came true. The large windows enhanced the spacious feel of the room with its open view, creating a relaxing and soothing atmosphere. Dinner was French cuisine, featuring seasonal local ingredients that were both visually appealing and delicious. Breakfast was a satisfying Japanese set meal with freshly cooked rice enjoyed alongside beautiful scenery. The only downside, as others have mentioned, is that being in such a nature-rich location inevitably comes with some challenges—there were quite a few intruders through window gaps like crickets and frogs. While I'm not particularly bothered by them, it can still be distracting when they come into view... I also enjoyed visiting the adjacent ESHIKOTO and would love to return during another season. Thank you for your hospitality!

    It was a bit far, but...

    Since last year, I had been interested in this accommodation run by Kokuryu Sake Brewery. This time, I had the pleasure of staying here. The location is riverside with lush greenery, offering a relaxing atmosphere. I look forward to seeing further improvements in the future. The building is very spacious, and I particularly liked the terrace. However, some windows were a bit difficult to handle, which might be a concern as time goes on. The bath was heated but featured an incredibly smooth onsen that felt wonderful. The food was also delicious; I'd love to try seasonal dishes next time as well. Since the premises are quite large, perhaps transportation services within could be improved slightly for convenience. Overall, considering its potential for growth and improvement, this is an accommodation I'd like to visit again!

    We stayed for 4 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The meals were thoughtfully varied each night, offering something different every time. Every dish was truly wonderful, filled with surprises and delight. The sake paired perfectly with the meals, which was impressive. It was an accommodation we would love to visit again. Thank you!

    【Guest Room & Amenities】 Stayed in JOU-Ⅰ. Upon entering the room, you are greeted by the scent of bamboo and a stunning view from the window. The amenities, including toothbrushes, razors, and hairbrushes, were all made from bamboo materials. The bath amenities were by uka, and the hairdryer was Refa—both excellent in quality. My favorite was the loungewear provided; its relaxed silhouette and soft texture made it incredibly comfortable to wear. If it had been available for purchase, I would have bought it on the spot. 【Hospitality & Service】 The staff were polite and approachable with just the right level of attentiveness. While returning to our room after breakfast and taking photos of the building, a front desk staff member kindly offered to take a photo of us together—a thoughtful gesture that we truly appreciated as it's rare to get couple shots during trips. 【Onsen & Bath】 The 24-hour natural hot spring allowed us to enjoy bathing at any time without restrictions. Although not directly related to the bath itself, having an 11:00 AM checkout time meant we could relax over breakfast and still have time for another soak before leaving. 【Facility & Equipment】 As this accommodation has been open for less than a year, I imagine there is still some trial-and-error involved in its operation. Being located amidst nature means that small insects or frogs may be present during summer months—something my partner and I were aware of beforehand and did not mind but worth noting for future improvements. Rooms with terraces offering scenic views may occasionally let in small insects due to slight gaps around large sliding windows even when fully closed; turning off lights when not needed might help reduce this issue. A frog managed to enter our bathroom through what seemed like gaps near wooden ventilation frames on the sidewall. We carefully released it outside so it wouldn't get harmed by staying inside too long! Enhancing airtightness through additional construction could address these concerns effectively. Regarding parking spaces: those driving larger vehicles might find parallel parking challenging here; trimming some grass along entry paths slightly wider could make access easier overall. 【Dining Experience】 During this season's stay (around 3:00 PM), freshly caught ayu fish became part meal highlights paired alongside premium sake selections curated beyond standard labels like Kokuryu featuring rare bottles instead - making price points feel justified given exceptional pairing experiences shared between exquisite cuisine beverages alike!

    A Place You'll Want to Visit Again and Again

    We stayed for one night as a family. We also joined the exclusive Garryu Wing tour for guests, and the drink we had after the explanation was truly memorable. The meals focused on local ingredients, and even the tableware and cutlery were impressive throughout. The room was spacious and beautiful! The comfort of the loungewear was amazing, so much so that our family talked about wanting to buy it. The Uka shampoo and other amenities provided a luxurious fragrance that was very soothing. One disappointing aspect was that we shared all activities with a group booking. At Bar Toki, it was almost entirely occupied by them, so we gave up going there after dinner. That said, the staff were incredibly kind, and we thoroughly enjoyed an extraordinary experience as a family. We look forward to visiting again soon!

    I previously stayed at Sosuikyo and decided to visit again as their new accommodation was completed. From the roadside, the vast grounds with standing stones immediately caught my eye. At the front desk, I learned that, just like Sosuikyo, you can drive to your villa and check in directly in your room—a method I really appreciate. The room was spacious, simple, and user-friendly. With no unnecessary items cluttering the space, the windows offered a view of Mount Eiheiji and Kuzuryu River. The villa's entrance also showcased a dedication to stonework; even on the terrace, stone materials were used instead of tables. At night, these stones retained warmth from sunlight during the day—a fascinating experience. The bath featured a semi-open-air design that was spacious with pleasantly viscous water quality—more than sufficient for relaxation. You could adjust water temperature by adding cold water yourself to suit your preference. Needless to say, the scenery was stunning; additionally, I loved how smooth and tactilely pleasing the stones used in the bathroom felt—I ended up soaking longer than planned! For dinner at Nihonryori En restaurant during summer seasonality: an exquisite Ayu Kaiseki meal awaited us—not only featuring fresh ayu fish sourced from nearby Kuzuryu River but also showcasing seasonal ingredients across Fukui Prefecture including Wakasa Bay & Mikata Five Lakes regions among others—truly delightful both taste-wise & visually thanks partly due witnessing live cooking performances enhancing sensory engagement overall! Breakfast served traditional Japanese set meals highlighting local specialties such as Fukui salmon alongside other regional produce echoing similar culinary richness experienced earlier evening prior—all equally delicious leaving lasting impressions about abundance inherent within region’s gastronomy heritage itself too!     It was a relaxing experience.

    A location where time seems to flow slowly, featuring accommodations (Kanjuen, BAR, Dining En), a bakery, a soba noodle shop, a restaurant, and the sake brewery of Kokuryu Sake Brewing Co., all situated on grounds overlooking the Kuzuryu River. We thoroughly enjoyed the sake, meals, shopping, and brewery tour. The staff were very attentive and accommodating with smiles as they catered to our requests. Thank you so much! We enjoyed dinner paired with Kokuryu sake and high-quality dishes made with ingredients from Fukui Prefecture. However, we felt that some dishes lacked a bit of punch. Additionally, the timing for clearing plates seemed slightly early. At the end of the meal, we had rice from an earthenware pot made into rice balls for us; however, we would have preferred to enjoy it more leisurely at that moment instead. We would love to visit again!

    Sake brewery tours available for a truly satisfying experience.

    Exclusive for guests, you can tour the Ishidaya sake brewery, famous for Kokuryu. This kind of activity is truly appreciated as it adds excitement to the stay. In the room, you can enjoy a beautiful view of a river flowing in front, surrounded by rural landscapes and mountains. The sake brewery itself features tunnel-like architecture with modern and luxurious designs that are captivating and provide a sense of comfort, especially for mature couples like us. However, while some accommodations choose not to have TVs to create an extraordinary experience, I personally find watching TV to be my form of escape from daily life. Unfortunately, this accommodation also did not have a TV. Regarding meals: dinner was French cuisine but somewhat difficult to understand in terms of concept. While it wasn’t bad tasting at all, it didn’t leave me with an unforgettable impression either. On the other hand, breakfast was simple yet satisfying—a traditional Japanese meal featuring delicious rice, fish, and miso soup enjoyed amidst great scenery. It provided more satisfaction than dinner. The facilities are excellent overall; next time I would prefer a breakfast-only plan so I could try dining at the soba restaurant within the facility for dinner instead!

    The pairing sake was...

    The pairing sake was absolutely fantastic—staying at this accommodation without trying it would be meaningless! I usually enjoy local sake like Fukujyu (Nama Sake), but the fruity and delicate flavors here were exactly to my taste. The dishes were also elaborate and delicious. If I had to point out a downside, it would be that the seating was too close to the neighboring table despite not being fully booked. Conversations from other tables were clearly audible, which was a bit tiring. Regarding IKYU.com's basic information about "no private open-air bath with natural hot spring water" for guest rooms, it should be corrected as they actually offer natural hot spring water baths. This could influence decisions when reserving based on whether it's a flowing hot spring or not. Soaking in the bath while gazing at the rice fields early in the morning was truly amazing! However, as insects may increase during this season, those who are sensitive might want to consider their timing carefully.

    As a fan of French r...

    As a fan of French restaurant Cadre, I was excited to stay here after their relocation. I had visited ESHIKOTO (acoya and Ishidaya) about a year and a half ago, but the facilities have expanded since then, making it even more enjoyable. The exterior design uses plenty of stone, giving it the feel of ancient ruins. I was particularly impressed that even the roof of the soba noodle shop was made of stone. Despite visiting during Golden Week, we hardly encountered other guests and were able to enjoy a quiet and comfortable stay. The room exceeded my expectations—it was lovely! We opened up the terrace windows to bask in the sunlight. Cadre lived up to its reputation with its consistently delicious cuisine—I was thoroughly satisfied. We visited for our wedding anniversary celebration and were delighted by thoughtful touches like a message on our dessert and a small gift upon departure. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality! It seems that there are plans to expand the grounds in the future; having an exclusive lounge or library for guests would be wonderful! A gift shop would also be nice—I loved the pajamas provided in our room so much that I wanted to buy them as souvenirs... haha. I look forward to visiting again during another season. Thank you very much for this wonderful experience!

    Wonderful Accommodation

    Visited by car from Tokyo, just avoiding the snowfall season. Overall, a wonderful accommodation. For positive aspects such as meals and room interiors, please refer to other reviews... Here are some personal suggestions for improvement: 1. Onsen: There was no display of the composition chart, which is necessary for an onsen accommodation. While it is overflow-style, it does not seem to be natural hot spring flow as stated on IKYU's information but rather heated; however, whether it is circulated or disinfected remains unclear. At least there was no noticeable chlorine smell. It seems to contain slight amounts of iron or magnesium. The invoice did not include a mention of the Hot Spring Tax. 2. Room: The large window had poor airtightness with slight gaps; this should be improved as insect activity will increase in upcoming seasons. Since the area below the window is a rice field, soundproofing could also be enhanced (to address highway traffic noise and frog croaks). There was no towel bar in the dressing space. As there’s no library building available, having a TV would be preferable. When opening curtains, rooms are visible from highways and pathways within premises—frosted glass covering about 1/3 of windows at lower parts might help. 3. Parking: Each building has tandem parking spaces; having 200V outlets for EVs would be appreciated. 4. Access to ESHIKOTO: Walking requires passing through gravel paths—paving them would improve accessibility. 5. ESHIKOTO Service: It would be convenient if items ordered at ESHIKOTO could be picked up at checkout from reception. 6. Local Products: While food ingredients and even mineral water were sourced from Fukui-based companies, shampoo/conditioner/body soap were manufactured outside Fukui (despite Nihon-Kagaku being available). 7. Library Building: A library near reception should definitely be considered. 8. Meals: Some dishes served during dinner overlapped with breakfast offerings. Although I’ve listed various points here—it was my visit six months after its opening—I look forward to seeing further development in future visits! I’ll definitely return again!

    A newly opened accommodation. We are excited to see how it evolves in the future. The meals were perfect for us. The French dinner was exceptionally satisfying, with every dish being delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious dinner paired with Kuro-Ryu sake after a long time. Breakfast was also tasty, but if we may add, we personally wished for more generous and piping hot soup servings. For both breakfast and dinner, one point of improvement would be the texture of the original Koshihikari rice—it could have been softer for our preference, perhaps because we are older guests. Nevertheless, the food was truly delicious. Despite the snowy weather, we appreciated the service of clearing snow off our car during checkout. The staff members were excellent as well. One suggestion is regarding the absence of a TV in the room—it came as quite a surprise to us. It reminded us of another accommodation in Izu that also lacked TVs. The main area for improvement would be parking arrangements near each room—a feature we liked overall—but it seemed designed without considering vehicle movements properly and felt quite narrow to navigate through safely, especially given this is a heavy snowfall region. That said, the food here was genuinely some of the best we've had in this area! Conversations with those serving us and even with the chef added to an enjoyable experience overall. In terms of room design details: while there was ample space in the bathroom area where showering facilities were separate from bathing ones (which piqued curiosity about why), practicalities like missing laundry baskets left no clear spot where used towels should go afterward—though speaking about towels themselves—they stood out positively being incredibly soft & fluffy unlike anything encountered before across monthly travels elsewhere! Even bathrobes provided comfort beyond expectations too! Once warmer seasons arrive soon enough—and ideally when TVs become available—we’d love returning again since its location remains conveniently close by home!

    A high-quality auberge nestled in the tranquility of Eiheiji, Echizen.

    Staying at "Kanshuku-en ESHIKOTO" was truly a blissful experience that satisfied all five senses. From the moment I stepped in, I felt my heart being liberated by the sophisticated yet open space. The room I was guided to was RYU-1, a high-quality space where traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern design harmonized perfectly. The interior, with its warm wooden elements and simple yet luxurious decorations, immediately put me at ease. Through the large windows, I could enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic Kuzuryu River. What impressed me the most was the semi-open-air bath in the room, featuring natural Onsen water flowing directly from the source. Opening the doors fully and soaking in the bath while admiring the view was an experience of unparalleled beauty and comfort that made me lose track of time. For dinner, I visited "Japanese Cuisine En," a Michelin one-star restaurant located within the Property. With great anticipation, I stepped through the noren curtain. The interior had a serene and calming atmosphere, with a perfect balance of quiet elegance and warm lighting. The dishes served were true works of art, made with an abundance of ingredients from Echizen. Each dish was visually stunning and delicious, with delicate seasoning that brought out the natural flavors of the ingredients, leaving me in awe. The most memorable dish was the sashimi made with seasonal seafood. The fresh, firm texture of the seafood released an incredible umami flavor the moment it touched my palate, leaving me speechless. The amenities were also excellent, featuring high-quality products. Every detail reflected thoughtful consideration, and I felt the Hotel's heartfelt "omotenashi" spirit. The staff were warm, kind, and attentive, providing meticulous care that made me feel as comfortable as if I were at home. The entire Facility was impeccably clean, offering a relaxing and pristine environment. My stay at "Kanshuku-en ESHIKOTO" was like a dream, a time to escape from daily life and rejuvenate both body and mind. The comfortable room, outstanding service, breathtaking Onsen, and exquisite cuisine all came together in perfect harmony. I sincerely wish to visit again and highly recommend this Property to anyone visiting Fukui Prefecture. Next time, I hope to come during the season when the cherry blossoms along the Kuzuryu River are in full bloom.

    Multiple Night Stay - Day 2

    The second day with a change in Room and meals. While relaxing and relieving daily fatigue, I also wanted to explore the surrounding area, so I think choosing a Multiple Night Stay was the right decision. ＜Room＞ I stayed in the RYU-II Room. Although the layout of the Room was different from the first night, the Onsen and terrace design were similar, so the comfort level remained unchanged. Currently, as part of the opening celebration, they are offering a special gift of limited-edition cosmetics made with sake lees, which I found to be a delightful perk. ＜Dinner＞ On the second day, I had the standard course at the Japanese restaurant "En." This season featured dishes made with fugu (pufferfish), which were just as delicious as the Echizen crab from the previous day. In addition to the fugu, I enjoyed everything, including yellowtail sashimi and sesame tofu. The nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) rice was absolutely delicious, and the leftover rice was made into onigiri (rice balls) and wrapped for me to take back to the Room as a late-night snack. ＜Bar＞ The interior was stylish with a great atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to relax. The cocktails made with fruits and Japanese sake were unique and all exquisite. The bartender shared insights about Fukui's history and highlights, and I found myself so engrossed in the conversation that I lost track of time. Hearing such detailed stories made me feel, "I want to visit Fukui again." ＜Breakfast＞ The breakfast venue is a bit far from the villa, but the Shuttle Service made it convenient. With a large window at the front, I enjoyed a Japanese-style breakfast while gazing at the Kuzuryu River, which made for a luxurious experience. The soft-serve ice cream, available for an additional charge, had a unique flavor that I believe can only be enjoyed here, and it was delicious even in winter. ＜Sightseeing＞ I visited Eiheiji Temple, one of Fukui's famous sightseeing spots. Despite being about a 20-minute drive away, I was impressed by the hospitality of providing Shuttle Service. After returning to the villa from Eiheiji Temple, I went on a tour of ESHIKOTO, which I had reserved the previous day. I had the rare opportunity to be guided through and receive explanations about the Garryu Wing and underground cellar, which are not usually open to the public, making it a truly valuable experience. ＜Summary＞ It was an incredibly fulfilling three days. Everything, from the Room to the meals and service, was perfect, leaving no room for complaints. It might sound like excessive praise, but you'll understand if you visit. The price may be a bit high, but considering the unique experiences offered here, I believe it is worth it. Fukui is home to renowned Ryokans like Bōyōrō and Beniya, but I feel this place holds its own against them. I would love to stay again in a different season. Thank you very much.

    Multiple Night Stay Day 1

    Having stayed several times at the sister Property, Sosuikyo in Mie Prefecture, I heard that a new villa opened in November, so I quickly made a Reservation. Since Fukui is not a place I can visit every month, I decided on a Multiple Night Stay this time. ＜Check-in＞ I checked in directly at the villa without going through the front desk. The staff provided a thorough explanation of the Room's amenities, so I didn’t need to make any inquiries during my stay. I thought it was a nice service to receive a welcome drink at the adjacent bar. ＜Room＞ I stayed in the JOU-II Room. The villa, over 100 square meters, was very comfortable. The space is adorned with antique furniture and crafts, making it a delight for those who appreciate such aesthetics. The semi-open-air Onsen bath was spacious, allowing two adults to stretch out and relax comfortably. The windows can be opened and closed, and the lattice can slide, so even those concerned about full openness can use it with peace of mind. While the bath was excellent, I was most impressed by the terrace. Many Ryokans and Hotels have terraces, but they are often unusable in summer due to insects or in winter due to the cold. However, the terrace at Kanshuku-en has large windows that open and close like a house, making it a comfortable space regardless of the season. The drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary, and I appreciated the inclusion of Kokuryu sake and local craft beer. ＜Dinner＞ I enjoyed an Echizen crab course at the Japanese restaurant En. (It seems they serve French cuisine on certain days.) The interior features a large counter, creating a calm and elegant atmosphere. Every dish using Echizen crab was delicious and visually stunning. Among them, I particularly liked the gratin and croquette. I had never tried crab shabu-shabu before and was initially unsure, but I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. The owner? provided a relaxed and approachable service, sharing various insights about Fukui, which made the experience even better. I was unsure about choosing drinks, but the sommelier’s detailed explanations were very helpful. They also had rare Kokuryu sake available, so I recommend enjoying it as part of a pairing. ＜Sightseeing＞ On the first night, I was tired from traveling, so I didn’t venture far and visited the adjacent ESHIKOTO. I learned that you can tour the Ishidaya storage facility by Reservation, so I booked it for the next day. Hareya (a bakery) seems to be a popular spot, as everything was sold out even before closing time. I recommend going early.

    Impressed by the high-quality ambiance, cuisine, and hospitality.

    This time, we stayed as a parent and child. The hospitality was truly wonderful and impressive. Amidst the falling snow, the entire Facility had a very magical atmosphere. The cuisine featured seasonal ingredients from Echizen, and we were given a very detailed explanation about the food, culture, and history. The dishes were elegant, and the natural flavors of the ingredients were truly delicious, making the famous Kokuryu sake pair perfectly. Before the meal, we enjoyed a welcome drink at the BAR next door. This building, surrounded by a water basin and made of glass, had a stunning atmosphere with its counter crafted from a single stone. We chose the Room "jyo." The crafts and antiques matched perfectly with the spacious Room, and we were moved by the view of the outside through the large glass wall, allowing us to relax. From the semi-open-air bath, we could see the snow-dusted countryside and the Kuzuryu River, with no sound of cars or noise at all. Surrounded by high-quality items, we were able to enjoy a luxurious time, and one night felt insufficient as the comfort was so impressive.

    It was a cold season...

    It was a cold season, but the staff greeted us outside with a warm smile. We were able to check in at the Room, and they kindly explained everything to us. The Room with a courtyard had a sense of openness, and the furniture and amenities showed great attention to detail, which was wonderful. The semi-open-air bath in the Room allowed for a relaxing time without worrying about being seen, even for women. For dinner, we enjoyed a fugu course at the Japanese restaurant "En." The quality of the ingredients and the dishes that brought out their best were excellent, and we had a delightful time chatting with the owner and staff. Breakfast featured dishes made with local ingredients, offering a wide variety and leaving us very satisfied. The view from the window was also beautiful. Unusually for winter in Fukui, the weather was nice, and the staff saw us off until the very end, allowing us to spend a luxurious time. Thank you very much.

    The Room was clean and spacious, allowing us to relax comfortably. Both dinner and breakfast were made with plenty of local ingredients and were very delicious! I would love to use your services again if I have the chance.

    Healing Journey

    This was our first time staying at Kankuen. This time, my wife and I stayed together during a short break from our busy schedules, and from start to finish, we were treated with care and had a truly relaxing time. My wife was very pleased as well. Thank you very much. When we entered the Room, the underfloor heating made us forget the cold, and we enjoyed the snowy scenery across the river while soaking in the open-air bath, almost losing track of time. The Room was furnished with antique furniture, comfortable pajamas, and a cozy bed, allowing us to rest well. The breakfast, made with locally sourced ingredients, had a perfectly balanced flavor—not too strong, not too light. Although we usually don't go for seconds, my wife and I both had extra servings of rice and finished everything. It was a very satisfying breakfast. Next time, we hope to visit during spring, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, to enjoy the sake from Kokuryu Brewery and admire the blossoms while spending another relaxing time. We look forward to your hospitality again then.
