I was overcharged and unlawfully detained.
I don’t usually write Reviews, but this time I was so angry I couldn’t stay silent, so I’m posting for the first time. This is about being overcharged for my stay and being unfairly detained. The purpose of this trip was to watch a professional baseball game at Koshien Stadium, and I applied for a game-watching Plan organized by the Hankyu Hanshin Daiichi Hotel Group. It included a game ticket and a “common-use voucher” worth 3,000 yen that could be used at the group’s Hotels. Check-in was done by machine. I assumed the voucher could be used on the machine, but as expected it couldn’t, so staff had to handle it. They struggled quite a bit, but it wasn’t enough for me to make an issue of it, so I went to my Room. A problem occurred at checkout the next day. When I tried to check out by machine, it wouldn’t let me. A staff member told me that they had undercharged me at check-in and instructed me to pay 3,000 yen. I repeatedly explained that I had handed over the voucher, but they would not accept it, and an assistant manager rushed over. I explained again. While they went to confirm things, I took out and showed them the paper that contained the Plan information and the voucher. They finally seemed to believe me, but there was no clear confirmation on the spot. Because this response was completely unreasonable, I told them to verify the details and explain properly before leaving the Hotel. About an hour later they called to say they had confirmed the voucher and apologized. When I asked again why this happened in the first place, they answered that it was due to insufficient guidance for staff members. I wanted to hear a detailed explanation of what happened and what improvements would be made going forward, but their answer felt extremely dismissive. So I told them I would never use this Accommodation again and hung up. What struck me is that before staff training is discussed at all, manager-level training seems necessary. I believe irregular situations are exactly where hotel professionals are truly tested. Do you really think an organization at such a low level is acceptable? Is there no pride in calling yourselves Hankyu? Having grown up along Hankyu lines of service area routes (the Hankyu railway line), even after moving to Kanto I have always liked Hankyu and felt proud of it. More than anything else, this made me feel there is also a problem with management’s attitude. Are you becoming complacent because of inbound demand while neglecting customer service? I think there will be consequences someday. Based on this incident as well as your overall management stance regarding customer service quality control measures (including how vouchers are handled during automated check-in/out), which directly affects guest trust in your Accommodation operations across group Hotels participating in Plans like these; therefore; based on these concerns; based on these facts; based on everything described above; based on all circumstances; based on my experience; based on your response during follow-up communication after checkout issues were resolved only after delay—I intend—at next year’s Hankyu Hanshin Holdings shareholders’ meeting—to seek clarification.

A high-end Hotel
I think this is a good Hotel with a luxurious feel. What I liked: Although it’s close to the Osaka Station West Exit ticket gates, there are few people around the entrance, so it feels like a hidden retreat and is relaxing. Both the entrance and the Room feel upscale and are wonderful. The bath in particular is a unit bath with a separate washing area, so you can bathe comfortably. For breakfast, in addition to the buffet, you can choose either an egg sandwich or Eggs Benedict, and staff prepare cappuccinos on the spot. The food quality is also high. What I would like you to consider improving: At check-in, even though I had already paid by card in advance, I was required to enter my name and address myself in katakana, and my companion also had to enter everything from scratch. This was very stressful and felt worse than a Business Hotel. Also, there was no ice machine on the floor where my Room was located; when I asked at the front desk, they told me it was on an upper floor. However, when I tried to go up by elevator, even after tapping my Room key card I could not access that floor. I wanted clearer guidance on how guests can actually fulfill such requests. When I asked at the front desk on the first floor whether I could get ice from the restaurant, they only replied that it would be difficult. It felt like there was no willingness to meet guest needs—just pushing company convenience according to a manual—which did not feel like a luxury Hotel experience. Also, if this is meant to be a luxury Hotel, basic amenities such as toothbrushes and razors should be placed in the Room in advance. It feels like such a waste because this Hotel has what it takes to become truly luxurious. I think it’s a very lovely Hotel overall, and I hope it becomes a true luxury Hotel in time.

This was my second s...
This was my second stay since last summer, so I already knew the route from Umeda and arrived easily. Even in the extreme heat, it’s very convenient to get around via the mall and covered walkways. Access to shopping, dining, and convenience stores is also excellent. These days, large public baths are often crowded and it’s not always possible to relax, so I like being able to unwind at my own pace in the comfortable bath in my room. I also appreciate that the tea maker lets me enjoy tasty drinks other than coffee. I’d love to stay again if I have the chance.

Second Stay
My first impression wasn’t very good, but I liked the breakfast and the replies to my Review were very courteous, so I stayed for a second time with high expectations. This will be a long message. Last time, I was hardly greeted at all, including at the front desk and in the restaurant, but this time the front desk staff properly greeted me even from a distance. I was happy to see that what I wrote in my Review had been reflected right away. However, the restaurant was unchanged. Perhaps they are too focused on their own tasks to notice what’s going on around them… Several guests returned to their seats without ordering anything because no one noticed them at services like the drink station in front of the counter. Also, since guests can choose either an egg sandwich or Eggs Benedict, I think you should actively inform them. Simply placing a piece of paper on the table is hard to understand. In fact, could it be that few people order because there isn’t enough guidance? I understand SDGs, but given this class of Hotel, I would like at least basic amenities in the Room. It’s strange that bath salts are provided in the Room but there is no toothbrush. As other Reviews have mentioned as well, even if slippers are disinfected, some guests may still feel uncomfortable using them. How about offering a choice between disposable and non-disposable slippers? Although this is supposed to be a high-class Hotel, it feels like the service still hasn’t caught up. If I have another opportunity, I hope for improvements next time. Thank you for your hospitality.

We were very satisfied.
I stayed in a Club Floor Room. I was also able to use the Ren Facility once. Since the Room is new, it was clean and the amenities were easy to use. In the club room, the sweets and food were light, and the drinks—especially alcohol—were the main focus. The staff were pleasant, and the atmosphere was very nice. If you’re expecting a wide selection of food like some other Hotel club rooms offer, you may feel a bit disappointed; and if you don’t really like alcohol, it might feel like less value—but personally I was very satisfied. Breakfast was fairly standard with a few Osaka specialties, but I thought it was good. As for the check-in method that some Reviews complained about, when I arrived at 6:00 p.m. on a weekday it wasn’t crowded, staff were available, and even as a first-timer I had no issues. Also, I personally appreciated having access to a small gym. There is a larger gym in Ren as well, but since I wanted to work out early in the morning, I used this one instead.

Highly satisfied!
My daughter and I stayed for a two-night stay in a Club Junior Suite. I had seen some Reviews saying the staff were not very helpful, but that wasn’t the case at all—everyone was attentive and courteous. The Club Floor lounge was especially wonderful. During cocktail time, we enjoyed drinks and delicious snacks together while taking in the night view—my daughter has just turned 20, so it was a special moment for us. It was also great that the property is connected to the Onsen Facility “Ren.” We used it on the first night and again on the morning of our third day, and we were very satisfied. We hadn’t added breakfast, but we had a breakfast rice porridge set at one of Ren’s restaurants, then fully enjoyed a morning bath. The powder room was well equipped with ReFa and YA-MAN hair dryers as well as hair irons, so there was no inconvenience. This trip was by JR, so with large luggage it felt like a bit of a walk from the station (and we got slightly lost), but we truly had a wonderful trip. If I have another chance to visit Osaka, I would definitely like to stay again. One small thing I noticed: while spending time in the Room, there would be fairly loud popping or clicking sounds coming from near the window about once every 5–10 minutes. Since it’s on the 27th floor, I wondered if it might be related to air pressure or something similar—but it remained a mystery throughout our stay.

The amenities are far too basic.
There was no toner, no cotton pads, and no cotton swabs. Only a toothbrush was provided, but it was so cheap that I didn’t feel like using it. For a place trying to present itself as a mid-range Hotel, this is unacceptable—it falls behind even low-priced Business Hotels.

A Satisfying Hotel
It was close to the station, and it was very convenient for dining out. The room was clean and quiet, and we could see the station and high-rise buildings—it really felt like Osaka. The bathroom was spacious with a separate washing area, and I liked that it was separated from the toilet. I was very satisfied and would like to stay again if I have the chance. If I had to mention one thing, many of the guests were foreigners. There were no problems or trouble because of that, though.

There is a passage that lets you walk to Umekita Onsen while still wearing your in-house loungewear. Pure bliss!

Directly connected t...
Directly connected to a commercial complex, it’s very convenient, and the views (depending on the direction) let you feel the excitement of staying right in the heart of Umeda. Just take the elevator down and you can access a wide variety of restaurants and shops. As it’s a new Hotel, everything is generally very clean. (I always wonder whether there are twin Rooms with a view of Grand Front...) The floor area is small, but thanks to the furniture layout and large windows, it feels compact without being cramped. This was my fifth stay, and each time I’ve still been bothered by noise. Perhaps due to wind pressure around high-rise buildings or metal creaking, there are intermittent loud “boom!” and “bang bang!” sounds. It’s especially noticeable at night. I experienced similar noise at another Hotel (“the one that isn’t Gran”), but I’ve never heard this at other high-rise Hotels... Also, since the slippers are not disposable, I’m concerned about hygiene, so I buy a pair at a 100-yen shop and bring them each time. Even so, the staff are kind and courteous, and the location is outstanding—so I’ve already made a Reservation for this Hotel for my next trip as well. I’m looking forward to my next stay.

Access
Osaka is still easy to get lost in—I struggled because the access directions were hard to understand. Also, please note that the shower is set up for international guests. Other than that, I was satisfied—the lounge was relaxing and comfortable.

A Hotel where you can enjoy drinks.
I’ve stayed here several times already. I usually book the Club Floor to relax with drinks in the lounge, and also to work out in the pool next door at Ren and soak in the Onsen. On day one, after check-in I headed straight to the lounge. The familiar staff welcomed me warmly, saying things like, “Today we have Taketsuru,” and “Your usual Blanton’s is right here”—which made me very happy. When it’s hot, beer is a must to start. Three draft beers plus a can of tomato juice makes the perfect Red Eye at just the right moment. I went out for an early meal (after 4 p.m., everywhere is quiet), then came back for whisky time in the lounge again. I enjoyed Taketsuru and Blanton’s on the rocks, with beer as a chaser. Iichiko from a flask mixed with orange juice was also delicious. For my next visit, I requested a good amazake—I’ve recently gotten hooked on drinking amazake mixed with sake. The next morning, I felt refreshed after an early soak in the Onsen—so relaxing. When the lounge opened at 10:00, I had one last beer and headed home satisfied. Thank you again for another wonderful stay.

Would it be acceptable to ask guests to return the welcome dessert at the exit?
We stayed on the Club Floor. As we arrived before 3:00 p.m., we could not check in, and many guests were waiting in the lobby. The website stated that the Club Lounge could be used even before check-in, so we asked to use it, but the staff had to confirm several times and it took a few minutes before we received an access card. If this is an available service, I would appreciate smoother guidance. The most disappointing part was the service in the Club Lounge. A staff member handed me a baked sweet saying, “This is a welcome dessert,” and asked if I wanted it warmed. I said it was fine as is. However, when leaving the lounge, I was told, “You cannot take this back to your Room,” and had to return it at the entrance. If they had explained from the beginning that it was for lounge use only, there would have been no issue. But being given something as a “welcome dessert” and then required to return it at the exit felt very strange. The next morning, we requested shipment by courier service, but on the following day the Hotel contacted us saying they had forgotten to hand it over for pickup. The package contained a rental kimono with a return deadline, so it had to be shipped with next-day pickup instead, and I personally had to explain and apologize to the rental company. Human error can happen, but this was my first time experiencing something like this. We also found directions to Umekita Onsen “Ren” confusing. The information in our Room said it could be accessed via a connecting passageway on the 4th floor, but with the elevator we used we could not go to the 4th floor. A restaurant staff member told us to exit once and use another elevator instead. In fact, there was a connecting passageway accessible directly from within the Hotel; we only learned later how to get there correctly. With clearer explanations at check-in or better in-house guidance materials, we would not have gotten lost. The view from our Room and the Facility were excellent; however, multiple disappointing incidents related to service and guidance left us with stronger dissatisfaction than positive impressions overall. For that reason, I rated hospitality/service as 1 out of 5 points. The Accommodation itself is appealing, so I hope for improvements going forward.

Extremely convenient
We returned because we love the Club Lounge. It has a calm, adults-only atmosphere with a great selection of alcohol. After a few drinks, we always end up debating where to go for dinner—Grand Green, Barchika 03, KITTE, and more—which is part of the fun. My companion especially likes Umekita Onsen Ren, and that’s another reason we keep coming back. When it first opened, the self check-in machines were crowded and frustrating, but this time it seemed much calmer and wasn’t an issue.

In mid-June, my spouse and I stayed overnight to enjoy the Hasu Onsen.
The Onsen, the meals, and the Room were all excellent. From the corner Room, we could watch various trains passing by. We also enjoyed dining in the lounge.

Thank you for your support.
I finally got to stay in the Club Room, and it was a blissful experience far beyond my expectations. I was also able to use the Onsen Facility, which left both my mind and body feeling refreshed. I even had a bed massage, and once I returned to the Room I fell into a deep sleep. The Room was quiet and stylish, filled with a wonderful sense of exclusivity that truly lifted my spirits. The layout, lighting, amenities—every detail felt thoughtfully designed and genuinely impressive. The club lounge isn’t very large, but the selection of alcoholic beverages was overwhelming in the best way. Although the weather wasn’t great, the view from the 27th floor stayed with me—and so did another drink. The only thing I’d like you to reconsider is check-in. If you’re aiming for that special feeling, self check-in is fine—but I would love to see a dedicated check-in option for Club Room guests. Thank you very much for such a valuable stay.

A Convenient and Comfortable Hotel
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay on the Club Floor, from check-in at 15:00 until check-out at 12:00 the next day. The Room had a separate bathroom, and the amenities were Sekkisei. It was also convenient that I could go directly from the 4th floor to the adjacent Onsen Facility “Ren” while still wearing the Hotel loungewear. I was disappointed that the sofa in the Room was too close to the TV, and that Club Lounge hours were only until 21:00 (last order at 20:30). I would have liked it to be open for at least one more hour. The Eggs Benedict at breakfast with avocado sauce was very delicious.

The Facility is new, and we had a very comfortable stay!
This is a new Facility that opened just a year ago, and I had a very comfortable stay. The Room isn’t large, but it has all the necessary amenities and was barrier-free and easy to use. The staff were cheerful, kind, and did their best to support us. Breakfast was also excellent with a wide variety of options. There were many families from overseas and groups of women traveling together, and I enjoyed breakfast time with them. There is also a lounge and gym, and the lobby is spacious; the sofas and chairs there are very comfortable, so exploring different areas of the Hotel will make your stay even more enjoyable.

A hidden luxury Hotel
The entrance is a bit hard to find, but the atmosphere feels luxurious and refined. The Room has a spacious, well-equipped toilet and bath. In particular, the bath is a unit bath with a separate washing area, so you can wash comfortably. At breakfast, sparkling wine is available with unlimited refills, and Eggs Benedict or an egg sandwich can be ordered separately at no extra charge. The staff provide excellent service—this is truly a luxury Hotel.

Enjoy an Onsen in the heart of the city.
I love Kobe Minato Onsen Ren, so I was really looking forward to staying at Hankyu Gran Respire Osaka, which has Umekita Onsen Ren. The high-floor club level was very clean, and the Room was spacious and comfortable even without being a suite. The club lounge, where you can enjoy alcoholic drinks from afternoon tea time, was quiet, and I enjoyed sweets while taking in the view. Each time they offered an oshibori towel with a different scent; every one smelled wonderful and made my time in the lounge very relaxing. The staff were also kind and attentive. It was crowded, but I was able to use Umekita Onsen as well. The Room has a lovely bathroom too, but a large Onsen is perfect for relieving fatigue. This became a Hotel I’d like to stop by and stay at on the way back from shopping to unwind from everyday tiredness. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Since it was on the 9th floor, the view from the window wasn’t great. I thought it might be an unlucky Room right by the elevator, but it was nice and quiet with no noise from the hallway. It was also great that the lounge drink service could be taken out. The breakfast desserts were surprisingly high quality for a buffet—I don’t usually eat dessert at breakfast, but I ended up trying them. The only disappointment was the service. There were hardly any greetings or check-ins from staff. Is that part of the concept? It felt a bit disappointing.

Club Lounge Comparison
It was my first time staying here. My Room was on the 27th floor. Despite the bad reviews, I had no issues with the self check-in machine. The Room was very spacious, but unfortunately I couldn’t sleep at all, possibly because the pillow didn’t suit me. Compared with Hotel Hankyu International, the club lounge at Hankyu International seemed better. However, since breakfast there was set-menu style, I chose Gran Respiaire because it offers a breakfast buffet. The club lounge at Gran Respiaire wasn’t very large, and there weren’t many options for snacks or light meals, but the JR train view was great. Also, their recommended drink—dashi broth with crispy rice—was something I tried for the first time and it was delicious. For breakfast, I chose the egg sandwich, but it didn’t suit my taste. I also saw other guests leaving their egg sandwiches unfinished at other tables, so I wondered if there might be some issue. The other dishes and desserts were average. As for the Onsen, I had high expectations for Umekita Onsen Ren, but it felt smaller than I imagined and I found the layout of the baths inconvenient. Overall, since it’s a new Hotel in Osaka, I may have expected too much. Aside from the train view, it didn’t feel like there were any standout features.

The Room and Facility were new and comfortable, and being able to use the Umekita Onsen was very relaxing. Breakfast was crowded, but I could order items like a café latte and Eggs Benedict, and everything was delicious. Since I had access to the club floor, I used it and was able to relax on the first day. However, when I used it on the second day—just before 20:30—I had an unpleasant experience. At entry, I was told that last order was at 20:30, and I acknowledged this. But as soon as I poured myself one drink and sat down at my table, another staff member told me again that this was last order. I replied again that I understood. A few minutes later, I was told once more that it was last order (I hadn’t even gone for a refill). Being approached repeatedly in such a short time made me feel uncomfortable; although it is available until 21:00, I left within less than 10 minutes of entering. (There were still about two other groups there when I left.) I understand they wanted to start cleaning up early, but since I had already responded each time yet kept being reminded repeatedly in a short span, it made me not want to use the club floor for the rest of my stay. It was disappointing during what should have been an enjoyable visit.

A female staff member reacted angrily when I complained.
I had the worst service of my life at breakfast. No one showed me to a table, and no cutlery was set out. When I went to get a cutlery case myself, a young female staff member in her 20s came over without greeting me, silently pulled only the fork out of the case, and threw it directly onto the table. When I said, “Isn’t it unhygienic to place it directly on the table? Please replace it with a new one,” she pointed toward the entrance and told me, “The cutlery is over there—if you want a new one, go get it yourself.” However, she had plenty of brand-new cutlery in her hands. Even so, she refused to give me any. When I asked again for her to hand me what she already had, she repeated “Go get it yourself,” glaring at me with an irritated expression. I couldn’t believe it and complained. In the end, a man who seemed to be the manager came out and apologized. It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced service this unpleasant. It felt less like customer service and more like talking to someone rude and aggressive. More than anger, my first reaction was shock. I was truly shocked.

There were many great points, but also some disappointing aspects...
[What I liked] - The Onsen “Ren” was excellent. It felt elegant and truly relaxing. - The breakfast egg sandwich is made to order, but I ate quite a bit while waiting and worried I wouldn’t be able to finish it when it arrived. However, perhaps because it was crispy, I finished the large portion easily—it was very delicious. - The lounge doesn’t have a wide variety of snacks, but the combination of dashi broth and toasted rice was great. Masters Dream beer is simply outstanding, and there’s also a wide selection of whisky. It’s a great lounge for those who enjoy alcohol. - The pillows were soft and comfortable. - The toilet and bath were separated across the hallway, which made them easy to use. - The ice machine on the floor let you choose from three options—water, ice, or water + ice—which was subtly convenient (at other hotels I’ve only seen ice). - As dining Facilities, having only the 5th-floor restaurant & bar is a bold and refreshing choice. Likewise, not stocking alcohol in the in-room refrigerator (which I usually don’t use) was another refreshingly clear decision. [What disappointed me] - I couldn’t figure out how to get there from Osaka Station’s “Umekita Underground Exit,” so I got lost and it took 18 minutes from getting off the train to arriving at the Hotel. Along the way there were almost no signs with the Hotel name; this is partly my fault as not remembering “Grand Green Osaka” contributed significantly. (I did try heading toward Osaka Station West Exit via the elevated walkway from the 2nd floor of the Hotel afterward—this route was easy to understand. Using West Exit as your main exit might be a good idea.) - Many Hotels allow check-in/out at the lounge, but everything here was handled uniformly at the 5th-floor front desk. The terminals were efficient large-screen units that made good use of IT; however, since there were many international travelers as well, it became crowded.)
