    I was able to relax and unwind in a private space.

    We stayed as a family with our 1-year-old daughter. All the hallways were tatami-matted, so we felt safe letting her walk around even though she’s still unsteady. The Room was very clean, and the sink area was spacious, which was great. It may seem minor, but having an outlet and a small space by the bedside to place things was really helpful. All the staff were polite and kind, and it made us happy that they spoke to our daughter as well. Perhaps because each Room has its own bath, the public bath was on the smaller side. The in-room bath was clean and nice too, but since we stayed in summer there were a lot of mosquitoes; even though we used insect repellent, we still got bitten in a few places... The washing area had plenty of space. We could eat in a private dining room close to our Room; I think we might have been able to relax even more if it had been winter. Even with our daughter, we could enjoy our meal without worrying about others around us. There was also a good selection of alcohol. The portion of meat was generous and satisfying! Everything was truly delicious!! The potato manju? That was especially tasty. When heading to check-out, it was a bit tough because we couldn’t roll our luggage easily, but looking back I think they might have provided an indoor cart if we had asked (haha).

    I’m really glad I stayed here.

    The entire property is covered with tatami mats, which felt wonderfully comfortable underfoot. I stayed in the Peach Room. Thanks to the warm hospitality and thoughtful care from all the staff, I was able to chat with the attendants and truly enjoy my stay. The meals, the baths, and the Room—everything! It was far more wonderful than the price would suggest. Now I understand why so many guests come back again and again!

    We enjoyed the Onsen in a guest room with an open-air bath.

    Although it is located in the city center, it was quiet, and we fully enjoyed the Onsen in the open-air bath attached to our Room. Meals were served in a private dining area directly connected to the Room; it can be locked, and during service it is separated from the guest Room, so our privacy was protected and we could relax with peace of mind. The food was also very delicious.

    The meals were excel...

    The meals were excellent, and the staff were very friendly. It was also great that the entire Facility, including the bathrooms, had tatami flooring, so we could move around without using outdoor shoes.

    A comfortable Room for a pleasant stay

    My first trip to Yamagata. This is a Ryokan with a long history, and I stayed in a beautifully renovated Room. Two king beds side by side, two sinks, and an adjacent dining area. The semi-open-air bath was also very comfortable. It was a perfect Room with nothing to complain about. The meals were all satisfying, including local specialties. I’m also grateful for the warm hospitality from all the staff. However, summer is indeed hot. It’s become a place I’d like to visit again in a better season.

    Relax and unwind—complete satisfaction.

    My husband and I visited Tendo to see the person who drew the “G.” Since we were there anyway, we wanted to relax at an Accommodation and enjoy great food, so we made a Reservation at Tsuruya. To be honest, judging by the name, my expectations were modest—but I was pleasantly proven wrong! The entrance had a charming Japanese feel, and inside, the front desk overlooked a beautiful Japanese garden. (We arrived a little earlier than the 3:00 p.m. check-in because we were tired from walking around.) They still welcomed us with warm smiles. They prepared a Room with an open-air bath for us, and we had a wonderfully relaxing time in the modern Japanese-style interior. (My husband didn’t even go to the large public bath—haha.) There were complimentary drinks: barley tea, orange juice, assorted tea bags—and matcha! They even provided a matcha bowl, so it was my first time in ages making thick matcha. My husband enjoyed orange juice along with the sweets in our Room. Dinner was served in the private dining area attached to our Room. The staff explained everything carefully. The Yamagata beef was incredibly tender and delicious. Not only the food but also the tableware and presentation were truly something to enjoy with your eyes as well—I thought, “This is exactly it!” Both dinner and breakfast were genuinely delicious and made us very happy. I wanted to post photos, but my husband was in them—sorry about that. I also fully enjoyed the large public bath. On our way out afterward, I stopped by near reception for freshly brewed hot coffee. They also sold ice cream there… I gave in to temptation and bought cherry ice cream. The selection made me want to try every flavor! They said we could take it back to our Room, so we enjoyed coffee and ice cream together—so good. My husband chose honey ice cream. Inside the Accommodation they provide loungewear with socks included; wearing those while walking around without slippers was very comfortable. There were “Tsuru” motifs everywhere—on garden decorations, on wall hangings, even on tableware—which felt cozy and made me smile again and again. It was such a wonderful stay. Thank you as well for the Shuttle Service to the station—it helped us so much. We would love to stay again next time. And next time I want to eat all of breakfast’s natto too (the other dishes were so delicious—and plentiful—that even though staff explained everything kindly this time, I just couldn’t finish it all).

    I’d love to stay here again.

    I stayed with my elderly mother and two others, and we were completely satisfied with everything—the staff’s service, the in-room open-air bath, and the meals. This is an Accommodation I would love to stay at again.

    What is the “Hohoemi no Sora” open-air bath?

    I didn’t meet anyone other than the staff. This is a good fit for those who value that kind of privacy. In the newest Room 101 (so it’s fairly expensive), the open-air bath attached to the Room (which was nice in itself) faces a bleak wall right in front of you, making it feel cramped. No view of the sky! The garden in front of the lobby looked nice through the glass, but it isn’t suitable for walking around—felt poorly maintained. Considering I stayed at three Onsen Accommodations in Yamagata and they were all priced about the same…

    I was able to relax and enjoy a quiet stay.

    My top priority was to enjoy great food at a quiet Accommodation surrounded by nature with an Onsen, and this place had everything I wanted. We stayed for two nights, but unfortunately it rained the entire time except for the first day, which limited what we could do. This time I was traveling with my elderly mother (over 90), so instead of taking walks we focused solely on visiting Yamadera by taxi—completing the “Risshakuji Temple climb” (more than 1,000 steps). With fewer people due to the rain, we were able to spend a calm, unhurried time together. Back at the Accommodation, she rested well in the open-air bath attached to our Room, took a nap, and then we enjoyed delicious meals—truly a luxurious experience. The Accommodation was spacious and spotless. Everything was beautifully decorated with crane motifs and shogi pieces shaped like an “Osho” king. The staff were warm and welcoming, and my mother was very happy. Thank you very much.

    A family-friendly accommodation where even guests with young children can relax and enjoy their stay—one you’ll want to return to again and again.

    We visited as a family of four with our children aged 9 and 4 months. Since we have small children, we chose the spacious tatami-style Japanese Room [Tsuki]. This Accommodation always serves delicious meals, and the Onsen is not too hot, so we can relax even with kids—something we really appreciate. The dining area is also private rooms, and when we consulted in advance that we would be traveling with a baby, they prepared a high-low chair for us, which was very helpful. Thanks to that, our whole family could enjoy our meal with peace of mind. Also, throughout the building you can find Yamagata-brand products such as Tendo Mokko furniture and Yamagata Dantsu rugs, and being able to feel that attention to detail is a big plus for us. The in-room Onsen was also very comfortable, and we were able to unwind at ease. This is an Accommodation I can truly recommend to families with small children, and it’s a wonderful place with high satisfaction across the meals, Onsen, and overall atmosphere. We’d love to return again.

    The bamboo shoots and wild mountain vegetables are amazing!!

    The wild mountain vegetables served at dinner and breakfast were exceptionally delicious, and we were able to fully enjoy Yamagata-style dishes that we don’t usually get to eat. The staff were also kind, and even while busy they assisted us courteously, which truly conveyed their warmth.

    Quiet and comfortable

    The meals were beautifully presented, and although the bath was small, it was well maintained and very clean, making for a comfortable stay. I was very satisfied. The courtyard had a sense of history.

    Special Japanese-Style Room “Tsuki” with Semi-Open-Air Bath Stay

    I stayed for two nights and overall it was good. The meals were fairly good in both quality and quantity. It would have been even better if there had been a large public bath, but the bath in the Room was nice. I’d like to visit again next winter.

    The Best Accommodation

    From the Shuttle Service to the station onward, the service was excellent, and when we arrived at the Accommodation, every staff member welcomed us with warm smiles and kind hospitality that truly warmed our hearts. The in-room Onsen could be enjoyed anytime we liked, and even the washing area was well heated, which surprised us. The meals in the dining room were delicious, and we fully enjoyed both warm and cold seasonal dishes. The menu was thoughtfully planned—everything was delicious. The next day, we had time before our flight and spent some time at the Hotel; they were happy to accommodate us without any sign of inconvenience, which really helped.

    Ideal for a girls’ trip

    We stayed here on a girls’ trip, and everything was excellent—from the staff’s hospitality at the Ryokan to the Room, as well as dinner and breakfast. After checkout, we also appreciated the Shuttle Service to the station. Since we only stayed for one night this time, my friends and I were saying we’d love to stay again.

    Second Stay

    We decided on this place for our family trip this year because we had a great experience last time. The Room and bath were good, but the meals were disappointing. Did the head chef change?? The service from the staff during meals was also... questionable. They forgot to distribute items and just left them on trays, or came to the Room saying they forgot to write down drink orders... There were many moments that made us go "hmm??". Even the ice cream sold in-house wasn’t tasty at all ( ; ; ) Overall, it was quite disappointing.

    A Delightful Nostalgic Ladies' Gathering

    We visited as a group of four friends from our school days. Thanks to this wonderful accommodation, we were able to celebrate our 50th graduation anniversary trip in the best way possible. Not only did they provide shuttle service to the station and offer discounted tickets for the nearby Hokusai Museum, but every aspect—meals, baths, and the private open-air bath in our room—was absolutely satisfying for all four of us. We truly felt grateful for their thoughtful hospitality. The staff were cheerful, efficient, and provided excellent service that made us feel comfortable. We hope this accommodation continues to thrive while preserving its unique charm. Having stayed at various accommodations before, this is the first time I’ve written a review because it was such an exceptional place that I wanted to recommend it to everyone!

    2025 Autumn Leaves Vacation

    1) Only one concierge for check-in, so there may be a wait. 2) Stayed for 2 nights. The room was clean but no coffee was provided; guests need to visit the bar for coffee. 3) Excellent onsen facilities. 4) Food and service were good. 5) Convenient location near scenic spots. 6) Would recommend to others.

    A room where you can relax like at home.

    I stayed at "Taiyo" with my elderly parents, which features a private Onsen bath with free-flowing hot spring water. The accommodation includes a 24-hour accessible bath, restroom, veranda, living room, bedroom, dining room, and hallway, making it feel just like home. The meals were delicious and showcased local ingredients. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish everything served. I was impressed by how the staff discreetly cleaned up everything in the dining area without being noticed since the dining room and living room are completely separate spaces. The staff members were kind and made our stay very pleasant. One suggestion would be to add a ramp or similar feature for the step between the living room and hallway to improve accessibility.

    It was a warm and welcoming accommodation!

    I stayed at this accommodation after hiking in Fukushima. Unlike large hotels, the onsen is not very big, but it was relaxing. The food was very delicious, and the imoni served at dinner was excellent. The staff seemed busy but were kind and attentive. I think this is a very nice accommodation.

    The customer service was very disappointing.

    Arrived a few minutes past 2 PM for an early check-in reservation, only to be left waiting for over 15 minutes with no welcome drink offered. When I finally approached the staff, there was no apology for the delay, and their demeanor was cold and unwelcoming. Even moving our luggage required us to ask before a cart was brought. Chose this accommodation for its barrier-free features as I was traveling with my elderly parents, but there were significant steps at the room entrance and in the Japanese-style area, making it difficult for my mother with mobility issues. During checkout, while assisting my mother, my father struggled to stand from a low step where he had sat to put on his shoes. Despite a chair suitable for elderly guests being nearby, staff simply stood by without offering assistance. Additionally, during dinner when futons were prepared in our room, used teapots and cups were not replaced—a surprising lack of service considering the price of this accommodation. While the bath and meals were enjoyable, they could not make up for these disappointments. Unfortunately, I have no desire to return after such an unsatisfactory experience.

    A small yet cozy and...

    A small yet cozy and refined Japanese-style onsen Ryokan with excellent private baths in the rooms! While traditionally designed, all essential facilities are modern and comfortable. The food is exquisite and delicious. The staff's dedication and kindness leave a lasting impression, and their use of various tools to assist communication is truly touching!

    Traveling with 1 and 3-year-old children

    The staff provided warm and attentive service, making our stay very enjoyable. As shown in the photos on IKYU.com, the lounge was beautiful, and the Room was clean and well-maintained. Even with our 1-year-old daughter crawling and cruising around, there were no concerns about cleanliness, which showed how thorough the cleaning was. During dinner, our daughter insisted on having fried food even though it wasn’t on the menu. The staff kindly accommodated her request and served us some delicious fried chicken as an additional dish. Thank you so much!

    Like its sister accommodation, it was a comfortable accommodation with excellent rooms, baths, meals, and staff.

    The only drawback is that it becomes difficult to make a Reservation for a single stay here... That alone is a point of concern.

    Family-friendly Ryokan

    We stayed as a family of four (our eldest son is 5 years old, and our youngest is 1) the night before attending Yamagata's famous "Imoni Festival." When we arrived at JR Tendo Station, it was raining, but the staff kindly came to pick us up with an umbrella, showcasing their exceptional hospitality. Upon arriving at the accommodation, we were immediately impressed by the beautiful courtyard and the tatami mats laid throughout the facility. Even in the changing rooms and bathrooms, tatami mats were used, making it incredibly comfortable to walk barefoot—a truly relaxing experience for us as Japanese guests. We stayed in a "Japanese Modern Twin Bed Room," which was spacious and impeccably clean. The children had so much fun playing around in such a comfortable space. They especially loved the beanbag cushions provided in the room and enjoyed jumping on them repeatedly. It’s a very cozy room where even families with small children can feel at ease. The meals were something we had been looking forward to immensely. This time, we splurged a little for an upgraded kaiseki meal instead of the standard option. The server was extremely polite and warmly attentive with their smiles—something that left a lasting impression on us. Every dish was delicious; however, what stood out most was Yamagata beef shabu-shabu—it melted in our mouths with incredible tenderness and unforgettable flavor. The children's meals were also excellent! There was a wide variety of juices available too—our kids especially loved Yamagata's specialty cherry juice and peach juice—they couldn’t get enough! Mealtime became an enjoyable experience for every member of our family. On departure day, since we wanted to head out early for Imoni Festival festivities, we asked if breakfast could be served earlier than usual—and they graciously accommodated this request without hesitation—which helped us tremendously! We are deeply grateful for such flexibility from their team. After checking out from this ryokan-style accommodation filled with warm hospitality until its very end—they even provided shuttle service back to Tendo Station—we felt truly cared for throughout our stay here! Traveling with young children often comes along challenges; however thanks entirely due diligence shown by all staff members' thoughtful gestures during entire duration made sure everyone within family created unforgettable memories together here genuinely appreciate everything done behalf towards ensuring wonderful experience overall!

    Everything is excellent.

    It was truly a wonderful accommodation. From the warm welcome, guidance, room, bath, meals, the staff who served us during meals, to the farewell—everything was absolutely perfect. All the staff were consistently smiling and provided such pleasant service that we had a very comfortable stay and are filled with gratitude. We stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath, and including the large public bath, everything was impeccably clean and well-maintained—it was truly impressive. The meals were all incredibly delicious as well. We definitely want to visit again without fail. Thank you to all the staff for your thoughtful care and attention!

    Recommended accommodation.

    I stayed for two nights with my husband. The room, service, and bath were all very clean and comfortable, making our stay enjoyable. The food was especially remarkable, not only for its delicious taste but also for the beauty of the dishes that enhanced the dining experience visually as well as gastronomically. This accommodation has become one of my top three places with the best cuisine. The public bath is not very large but is well-maintained, and it was clear that great care had been taken in providing quality amenities like hair dryers and shampoos. Additionally, at the free drink corner, there were nostalgic records available to play while enjoying your drink—a delightful touch. Since there seems to be a focus on wine here, I would love to see further enhancements in related services or guidance in this area if possible. Thank you very much. I hope to stay again!
