    Since I booked a No Meals Included plan this time, I can’t comment in detail on the services, but I was very satisfied with both the hot water and the setting of the semi-open-air bath in the Room. Next time, I’d like to stay with meals included.

    We had a comfortable stay.

    I had a very comfortable stay. Both the property and the Room were clean and well maintained, with thorough housekeeping. The meals were delicious and served in just the right portions. The staff’s service was naturally friendly and made me feel at ease. The only disappointment was that I was looking forward to a beer after my bath, but there was no shop or vending machine, so I had to wait until dinner. That said, this is a rather indulgent request given how well stocked the drink bar in the lobby is. It was an Accommodation I would like to visit again.

    Like a girl at a summer resort waiting in the mist

    A short drive off the Venus Line along a narrow forest road, you’ll find the Accommodation sign. It was drizzling at the foot of the mountain, but at the Accommodation’s elevation we were surrounded by dense fog—wonderfully atmospheric. Staff came down to greet us at the bottom of the stairs, guided us to a parking space, and carried our luggage. A solid building stands on gently undulating grounds, and the surrounding greenery feels vibrant. Check-in was done on a lobby sofa, and there is a complimentary drinks corner here. The Room we were shown to was spacious, with high-quality materials, furniture, and fittings in a calm design. The in-room bath is square and made of stone—large enough to stretch out comfortably. Outside the window is woodland typical of a summer retreat area. The temperature stayed comfortable around the clock. The large public bath in a separate building is roomy, clean, and well maintained with no signs of wear. I had slight trouble because I couldn’t find a locker for leaving the Room key. The open-air bath is also stone-lined. After bathing, canned beer can be purchased at reception. Meals are served in a restaurant overlooking the woods. Tables are spaced fairly well apart; you can still hear neighboring conversations at times. Allergy accommodations were handled properly and thoroughly. The cuisine is excellent, with local junmai sake available to choose from as well. The staff are kind and have great manners throughout.”

    A Cozy Adults-Only Accommodation

    The Accommodation was spotless throughout and had a lovely atmosphere. The lounge’s complimentary drinks at most places tend to focus on alcohol, which often feels a bit disappointing, so I was happy to find local juices here. The wine was also from a well-known winery. Our Japanese-style Room had a large TV, and the futon was very comfortable for a good night’s sleep. Dinner featured carefully prepared dishes using plenty of Shinshu ingredients and seasonal produce. Even the dessert was elaborate and delicious. Breakfast offered a wide variety of side dishes, along with plenty of salad, juice, yogurt, fruit, and coffee (as well as black tea and herbal tea). It was well balanced and more than filling enough. Everyone at the Accommodation was kind and pleasant. I’ve stayed at many “adults-only hideaways,” but this was my first time experiencing such a surprise. Thank you for such an enjoyable stay.

    I was able to relax ...

    I was able to relax and take my time. Thank you very much. - I used the large public bath twice, and it was private both times, so I could soak and unwind. - In the Room bath, I opened the window fully and enjoyed long soaks many times while feeling the breeze. - The meals were delicious, of course, and the portions were just right—I was very satisfied. - Breakfast was also a perfect portion size and very tasty. - All three vinegar drinks in the lobby were delicious as well. - After checkout, I was able to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom at Seikoji Temple that you recommended.

    Perfect for couples looking to relax and unwind

    We stayed as a couple to relax in the Onsen. Most other guests also seemed to be couples, so the overall atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, which we really enjoyed. There were wild deer around the Accommodation, and the starry sky at night was beautiful—we felt refreshed in nature.

    Meals could be improved slightly.

    The meals were disappointing considering the cost-performance ratio. They did not accommodate any ingredient changes except for allergies, and I could only eat about half of the dishes due to personal preferences. I wish I had brought something with me. While I understand that managing ingredients might be strict due to the limited number of Rooms, I sincerely hope for more flexible responses in the future.

    This accommodation was excellent again.

    Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality. Although we initially planned to visit last month for our anniversary, we ended up staying this month. Despite the change in timing, we were delighted to receive a celebratory champagne glass service for our anniversary. The meals were delicious as always, and the staff's attentiveness made our stay very comfortable. We look forward to visiting again. Best regards.

    You can see wild deer while enjoying a morning bath.

    We stayed as a couple. The fireplace in the lobby immediately warmed both our bodies and hearts. The meals were delicious, and from the Room's private bath (Onsen), we could see a group of wild deer during their morning stroll—it was amazing. The staff were kind, attentive, and pleasantly friendly, creating a wonderful atmosphere.

    Relaxing and Healing Accommodation

    We arrived earlier than scheduled, but the staff welcomed us with a smile and even explained about the many deer in front of the Ryokan. From start to finish, we received exceptional service and were able to enjoy a wonderful holiday. I used the large public bath three times, and it was almost like having it all to myself, allowing for a very relaxing experience. The Room's private bath was also amazing—opening the window while bathing felt incredibly refreshing, so I highly recommend trying it. I would love to visit again during a different season!

    Excellent!

    Quiet and impeccably clean throughout the accommodation, with a great onsen. The shampoo, conditioner, and hairdryer were of high quality, and the complimentary drinks were very delicious. The staff's hospitality was impressive. I would love to visit this accommodation again.

    The staff were very kind and provided excellent service. The meals were delicious, with even the dishes warmed, and the salt content was moderate, which was great. One small note is that the Onsen water only flows when it reaches a certain level, which was a bit disappointing. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

    Autumn Foliage Viewing

    The meals were very delicious, but it was disappointing that the white rice was not tasty. Previously, I stayed at Kunpu (not the annex), where the rice cooked in an earthen pot was so good that I kept coming back. As I grow older, I tend to choose Japanese-style accommodations, but having white rice that is not delicious is quite a drawback. If this could be improved, I would love to stay again when visiting Nagano.

    The comfort of the R...

    The comfort of the Room is excellent, especially the semi-open-air bath, which creates a space that makes you want to take a dip. The restaurant service felt slightly stiff; a more relaxed approach would be appreciated. The cuisine was too orthodox and not particularly memorable, which is a bit disappointing. That said, considering the location and Facility overall, it’s generally good!

    It was the best weekend.

    The entire facility was clean and very comfortable. The Onsen in the room had a perfect temperature, allowing for multiple relaxing baths, and the large public bath was always available for private use whenever I went. The staff provided warm and attentive service with just the right balance of care and distance, making it impeccable. Although I only opted for breakfast, the meal was delicious. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, likely due to many guests being from an older age group. There were no entertainment facilities or souvenir shops, but that simplicity added to the charm. Having a Smart TV was also a delightful bonus. It was a perfect weekend filled with Onsen relaxation and movies. I would love to visit again—thank you to all the staff!

    Why does it no longer feel as moving as before?

    I have visited the Kunpu series several times before. The most disappointing aspect this time was that I didn't feel the same warmth as before. The food also seemed to lack something—perhaps contrast or balance? There wasn’t anything that made me exclaim, "Delicious!" which was truly unfortunate. Inevitably, I find myself comparing it to previous experiences.

    The accommodation is...

    The accommodation is still new, offering a clean and calm atmosphere with a limited number of rooms. The meals were also satisfying. However, we stayed in a 10-tatami mat Japanese-style room + living room on the first floor, and the futon area had frosted lattice doors that directly connected to the courtyard and hallway outside. As a result, the lights from the courtyard and hallway shone into the room, preventing it from becoming completely dark. (We did request to have the courtyard lights turned off, which was accommodated.) Both my spouse and I prefer complete darkness when sleeping, so unfortunately, neither of us could sleep well. We specifically chose this room for its spacious living area despite the higher price, so it was quite disappointing. (Of course, this may not bother those who are fine with some light in the room.)

    It was a very nice accommodation. The facility and the room were kept very clean, allowing for a comfortable stay. The meals in the morning and evening were delicious. The staff worked efficiently and provided excellent service. Thank you very much. The lower rating for the bath is due to feeling that the open-air bath setup was a bit plain. However, there were no complaints about the water quality, temperature, cleanliness, or amenities. The bathroom in the room was excellent.

    Refresh at a new highland accommodation

    As we approached the accommodation, we were greeted by several deer, which was very soothing. The guidance at check-in was concise and very easy to understand. The building, originally a retreat for a major insurance company, has been renovated into a new accommodation. Our room was on the second floor at the far end, but there was an elevator, and it was quiet and comfortable. The lounge had a 24-hour free drink corner that we enjoyed. It was always kept clean and tidy, but having ice and beer available would have made it even better. Our room was Japanese-style with futons that were very comfortable to sleep on. We were delighted to find a Nespresso machine provided as well. The refrigerator contained complimentary bottles of tea and water, which were helpful. The semi-open-air bath in our room turned out to be surprisingly spacious; my spouse and I could enjoy it together comfortably. The open-air bath in the large communal bathing area allowed me to relax alone while gazing at the stars. The meals featured fresh river fish that you can't find in Tokyo, which were particularly delicious. Additionally, the service during meals was exceptionally polite and wonderful. This time at this new accommodation located 1,400 meters above sea level in Tateshina Highlands allowed us to refresh ourselves thoroughly; we would love for this place to become our regular stay for future trips to Tateshina!

    It was a memorable a...

    It was a memorable accommodation with refined hospitality and service. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious, with each dish carefully prepared. The futon provided an exceptional sleeping experience. In addition to yukata, pajamas (indoor wear) were also available, which added to the comfort as I am not fond of yukata coming undone during sleep. Above all, having an indoor onsen allowed me to enjoy it multiple times at my convenience. In the morning, I could take a walk in nature and even encounter deer, making it a truly relaxing and luxurious time for both body and mind. I would love to visit again!

    It was excellent.

    The meals were excellent. Warm dishes were served at just the right timing, and there was a wide variety to enjoy. The Hotel was newly renovated, clean overall, and offered great flexibility and comfort. Thanks to the staff's recommendations, we were able to visit places not listed in guidebooks. We would love to visit again in another season.

    The service, meals, ...

    The service, meals, bath, and room were all comfortable and extremely satisfying. The staff's warm expressions and kind words made the stay very pleasant. The dishes made with plenty of local Shinshu ingredients were just right in portion size, not overwhelming, which was great. Also, the coolness of the summer highlands felt like a paradise. I slept comfortably at night and woke up feeling refreshed and energetic in the morning. I would love to visit again in summer, but I'm also curious about the autumn foliage. It was such a wonderful accommodation that I want to return many times. However, please note that GPS navigation might lead you to an entirely different location (Google Maps directed us to an old facility when we didn’t specify "Annex").

    A calm and pleasant accommodation

    The Room and the large public bath were very comfortable. The meals, while not made with luxurious ingredients, were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The staff was also very kind and attentive. The only downside was the comforter. Since it’s a cool area, I wanted to sleep without using the air conditioner, but the comforter provided was more like a winter duvet or a regular down quilt. As a result, I had to keep the air conditioner on while sleeping and couldn’t sleep deeply. If there had been a thin summer comforter available, it would have been 5 stars!

    A House in the Forest

    A small accommodation with about 10 rooms located in the Tateshina villa area, offering a quiet and peaceful stay. It features private baths in guest rooms as well as a large public bath, both available 24 hours, making it ideal for bath enthusiasts. Each room is equipped with a Nespresso machine (3 capsules per person), mineral water, and green tea in the refrigerator, which is very convenient. The cost-performance ratio is excellent, making it a great choice for summer retreats. Thank you!

    Recommended for solo travelers.

    Everything was perfect! I always feel a bit nervous traveling alone, but I felt reassured seeing several other solo travelers staying here. Please note that local buses run infrequently, so be cautious if you're planning to take one to the accommodation. Payment was cash only. The facility had a very calm atmosphere and beautiful interior design. The room and bathroom were clean, and the scent of tatami mats was so soothing! Best of all, the room had its own bath, which was spacious enough for two people to bathe comfortably together! The large public bath was also clean, and the quality of the onsen water was excellent. Normally my skin dries out quickly unless I apply lotion or body cream immediately after bathing, but during my stay here, I didn’t need any moisturizer except for my face—it’s unbelievable given how sensitive my skin is! This has never happened before! The meals were served by attentive staff who provided smooth service with clear explanations about each dish and prompt delivery—everything felt so comfortable throughout. Every dish tasted amazing; I even went back for seconds at breakfast! The tea sweets in the room were delicious as well—I ended up buying them as souvenirs this time around! It was such a relaxing experience that I’ll definitely return again in the future.

    One key.

    Stayed here during a garden tour with friends. Having only one key was very inconvenient. When I inquired, they said they were arranging for more keys, but the response seemed questionable. Additionally, the dinner plate for grilled items included several life-sized artificial cherry blossom petals made of synthetic fabric. Due to my poor eyesight, I accidentally ate them, which caused discomfort as they stuck to my throat.

    Welcome back!

    This is my second visit following last autumn. Everything, including the facility, amenities, meals, onsen, room, and service, is of high quality and offers great value for money. It is one of the few accommodations I definitely want to revisit. I have visited the main building under renovation many times and have been a fan since then.

    Thank you for your patronage.

    This was my first visit, and the environment was amazing. It was quiet, with plenty of wild birds around. During dinner, deer came to visit. My husband and I were very satisfied with our stay, saying, "Who knew such a wonderful place existed in Tateshina?" However, I noticed that no water seemed to be coming out from the spout in the large bath's tub, causing uneven temperatures in some areas of the bath. The Room's private bath was comfortable though. The meals were also elaborate and delicious. I would love to visit again during a different season. Thank you very much!
