    We stayed for one ni...

    We stayed for one night as a couple. We chose this place because we wanted to enjoy the Zao Onsen. Located at the very end of the onsen town, it was a quiet and peaceful spot. The building seemed a bit old, but the room we stayed in appeared to have been renovated—it felt new and comfortable. The Onsen we were looking forward to was about a 2-minute walk from the Hotel, and there was also one inside the facility. Each had different water qualities, which made it enjoyable. One thing that made us happy was during dinner when we were too full to eat dessert. A male staff member kindly prepared it for us to take back to our room. We were tired that day and wanted to relax in our room quickly, so this gesture was greatly appreciated. What disappointed us was that there were no lockers with keys in the bath area and some issues with room cleanliness. There were hairs left in the corner of the toilet sink area and inside the yukata drawer, which slightly dampened our mood—especially since it was such a lovely room otherwise. Upon departure, they gave us gum as a wake-up treat—a thoughtful touch that made us happy. We would love to visit again!

    Couple's Getaway

    This was my first time staying here. After carefully considering hotels in Zao Onsen, I chose this Shiki no Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the room, cuisine, and bath. The room was especially spacious, well-maintained, and clean, allowing me to relax comfortably. I would love to stay here again when visiting Zao.

    Everything is perfect.

    It was my first time visiting Zao Onsen, and both the sulfur onsen and the scenery around the hotel were absolutely stunning. I was very satisfied with the room, bath, and meals, but above all, I felt warmth and care from the staff who seemed to be working with a small team yet providing thoughtful services. It was truly healing. The dinner featuring Yamagata beef was delicious, but breakfast was equally impressive. Despite being a buffet, every small dish was tasty; salads were fresh; there were generous portions of Yamagata beef; and even a dedicated toaster for pizza showed great attention to detail. Just reheating it slightly made such a difference! The cheerful staff would kindly point out that "this is also from Yamagata," which added to the experience. The greetings and interactions from the staff were so pleasant that I wished I could hear them every morning. Including its sister accommodations, there’s extensive use of wood in their design which is delightful to look at without getting bored. In fact, we ended up spending two nights indulging in onsen without doing any sightseeing like going into the mountains—it still didn’t feel like enough! After checking out, we received what looked like candy but turned out to be "Denroku Beans"—a product from a local Yamagata company—showing their dedication to promoting local specialties! Since then, I've become such a fan that I purchase products from Yamagata whenever I see them. This is definitely an accommodation I'd love to visit again!

    Worth more than the price

    Three middle-aged women. Upon checking in and entering the Room, we were thrilled to find chilled fruits and traditional Japanese sweets as a welcome treat! The dinner course was perfect for us, prioritizing quality over quantity. The meat was served in just the right portion with delicious cuts, and even those accustomed to light Kansai flavors enjoyed everything. The entire Hotel seemed newly renovated, as it was clean and beautiful everywhere. Truly deserving of being selected among the Top 100 Hotels chosen by professionals!

    The staff's service is excellent.

    The hotel was very clean and beautifully maintained. The meals were plentiful and delicious, with more than enough to enjoy. What stood out the most was the staff's excellent service. In every situation, the staff responded kindly with a smile, making for a very pleasant stay. I would love to visit again. Thank you!

    I would love to stay here again.

    We stayed in a Japanese-style Deluxe Twin Room as a family of four. The room had two beds, an additional bed similar to a hospital bed, and futons on the tatami mats. All were comfortable to sleep on. Even with the futons laid out, there was still plenty of space, making it a very spacious room. For bathing, make sure to visit the outdoor Onsen with natural spring water—it’s worth the effort! The water there was completely different from the bath on the first floor and was excellent. The Yamagata beef grilled on a ceramic plate for dinner was absolutely delicious!

    It was a wonderful Onsen with warm hospitality!

    Although the weather was not great, the warm and genuinely natural hospitality made up for it. The Onsen offered both an outdoor sulfur spring and an indoor alkaline spring, making it a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate from daily fatigue!

    The Hotel was exceptionally clean, and the staff's hospitality was very pleasant. Despite the very hot day, the thoughtful amenities in the refrigerator allowed for a comfortable stay. However, it was unfortunate that there was no air conditioning in the changing room of the outdoor bath, especially on a day when it recorded one of the highest temperatures in the whole country, making it difficult to relax after bathing. The meals, amenities, and Facility (both hardware and software) were excellent.

    I stayed for 3 night...

    I stayed for 3 nights. The room, meals, and service were all very satisfying, making it a very comfortable hotel. If I may suggest, it would be great if there were not only yukata but also samue available.

    We thoroughly enjoyed Zao.

    The air conditioning in the Room on the top floor (6th floor) struggled to keep up with the outside temperature of around 34°C, which was quite uncomfortable. When I asked the staff, they mentioned that they were circulating cool air at 11°C, but it might not be effective due to the floor level and outside temperature. It was still very hot. At night, I managed by opening the window. It seemed like other guests on the 6th floor also opened their windows (I could hear voices), so I assumed all Rooms on this floor faced similar issues and gave up trying further. Additionally, the refrigerator did not cool well either. I had hoped for a cold beer after my bath but was disappointed (I used ice to chill it instead). These two points were unfortunate; however, everything else about my stay was truly wonderful—especially the hospitality of the staff. From welcoming us to serving meals, they made our stay incredibly pleasant. The food was absolutely delicious as well! We ordered one Yamagata beef teppanyaki and one shabu-shabu dish and shared them between us—it was perfect! Many guests seemed too full for dessert; we appreciated being able to take ours back to our Room instead. The welcome melon was also delightful! Elderly guests appeared happy as well since rice balls were prepared for them as Room service when they couldn’t finish their meals. Next time, we plan to visit during winter for skiing and snow monster sightseeing after many years away from these activities. We look forward to staying here again then!

    Thoughtful Accommodation

    The reason for the reservation was the room renovation, but I felt that the greatest charm of this seasonal hotel lies in its staff. Their warm hospitality and kind words were comforting. Even brief conversations as we left after meals were very pleasant for us as guests. Both during dinner and breakfast, there was natural interaction with the staff. I was impressed by their dedication to ensuring guests enjoy their stay and feel satisfied. From the welcome fruits to the drinks in the lobby, I felt that such thoughtful gestures lead to great impressions. It was my first trip to Tohoku and Yamagata, but it has become a region I truly love. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Excellent

    The spacious and comfortable room with a massage chair and Onsen provided a very relaxing experience. The hospitality was exceptional, from the welcome fruits to the refreshing gum at checkout. Above all, the meals were delicious. The dinner portions were generous, with a wide variety of dishes that amazed us. It was more than we could finish! The Yamagata beef we had been looking forward to was tender and incredibly tasty. My companion also thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you very much!

    Stayed here for a special occasion. As mentioned in the reviews, it was a wonderful ryokan. The room and staff were well-maintained, and the hot spring hopping was enjoyable. The meals were delicious, but there were fewer fish dishes than expected, which was slightly disappointing.

    Stayed for one night on a weekday during the off-season. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. There were no particular points of dissatisfaction. The value for the price was excellent. This stay has made this accommodation my first choice for future visits to Yamagata.

    This is my second stay.

    I visited last summer, but it was during a typhoon in Yamagata, so I couldn't fully enjoy my stay. This time, I came back for a second chance. As with my previous visit, I was very satisfied with both the meals and the baths. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, I couldn't visit Okama Crater again. I'll try again when the opportunity arises.

    We enjoyed Zao Shinraku Soba, visited the Zao Okama Crater, and stayed one night at the Zao Shiki no Hotel. We fully enjoyed the Hotel, Facility, service, and meals. It was a very memorable trip. Thank you very much!

    It was a very good Hotel.

    The staff were all very kind. I had a pleasant stay! It seems my Room was upgraded, and I made great use of the massage chair in the Room. Although the weather was unfortunate, it allowed me to spend more time at the Hotel, which turned out to be a wonderful experience!

    Overall, it was excellent!

    It was excellent! My companions praised me for choosing such a great Hotel! ● Highlights Both the Room and public areas were very clean. Even with a renewal opening, there are sometimes areas that feel old, but this Hotel had none of that. The Room was spacious, and both the massage chair and bed were very comfortable. The staff's attentiveness was also impressive. Especially at the restaurant, everyone who assisted us was friendly and provided outstanding service. Dinner and breakfast were delicious with great seasoning. For dinner, the "Quality Over Quantity Plan" featuring Yamagata beef fillet teppanyaki was amazing!! If you're not a big eater, the portion is more than enough. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of dishes that we enjoyed thoroughly. The baths within the facility as well as the detached bath with its milky white water were wonderful. This time we stayed for one night, but it seems like Multiple Night Stays to enjoy leisurely bath-hopping would be great too. We’d love to visit again!

    The room was newly renovated, very clean, functional, spacious, and tastefully designed with Ryukyu tatami. Above all, it had a sense of cleanliness without being excessive, which made me extremely satisfied. The breakfast menu was similar to other hotels; however, the presentation, tableware, dining space, hospitality of the staff, and the freshness and flavor of the ingredients felt distinctly different. It was almost my first time feeling this way about a buffet-style breakfast—it was truly exceptional. While other hotels often feel slightly careless or overly focused on luxury and variety at the expense of taste or attention to detail, this hotel stood out in providing an extraordinary breakfast experience. Although I only had breakfast here during my stay for meals, I could sense great care in ingredient selection and preparation. The yogurt wasn’t quite to my liking personally; however, the croissants were crispy. The Japanese side dishes and tableware were also delightful. Overall, I enjoyed a deliciously satisfying breakfast that left me completely content. Even as I left the venue and got into the elevator afterward, staff kindly saw me off with friendly words—not overbearing but cleanly professional yet warm in their approach. Especially at the breakfast venue itself—the greetings from staff members reflected thorough training while exuding genuine enjoyment in their work—making for an incredibly pleasant atmosphere where one could feel both comforted and reassured. The private bath area was also excellent. However when using the open-air bath within the hotel building during morning hours—I noticed people walking outside could be seen—which made me feel slightly uneasy. The gift shop was clean too; though not overly stocked—it offered many appealing items worth purchasing—and shopping there felt enjoyable overall. Apologies if this sounds rude—I initially booked here without high expectations since it seemed more activity-focused rather than emphasizing unique features like onsen traditions compared to other hotels nearby—and because we planned dinner outside anyway based on pricing/plans available at booking time—but ultimately ended up highly satisfied! If visiting this area again someday—I’d definitely consider staying here once more! Music played throughout added ambiance—with volume levels/content thoughtfully curated—creating such comfortable vibes alongside natural views through windows featuring trees/mountains beautifully blending into surroundings!

    We used this facility to celebrate a 77th birthday.

    We stayed here for the first time to celebrate my mother's 77th birthday. The warm message card and even a celebratory red vest prepared for her made it a wonderful family memory. The food was delicious, and we were touched by the staff's thoughtful care and kind words. The bath was perfect, with cherry blossoms in full bloom, making the location absolutely stunning. Thank you very much!

    Wonderful Memories of the Holiday

    The recently renovated interior offers a very clean lounge and lobby from the moment you step in. The room is spacious, clean, and user-friendly, with stunning views of nature such as cherry blossoms in full bloom and skunk cabbage. The staff provided exceptional service, making the stay incredibly comfortable. Everyone was genuinely kind and attentive, allowing for a truly special experience. The welcome fruits and drinks, luxurious dinner, variety-filled breakfast, and spacious public bath were all outstanding. Considering the price point, everything about this accommodation was perfect. I would love to stay here again!

    The room is outdated and does not match the price.

    The bathroom door rattled, giving an old Ryokan vibe—perhaps it's aimed at inbound tourists? The room's cost performance is quite poor! However, the quality of the Onsen water was excellent. Please ensure not to rely solely on the Onsen's reputation. At this price, I probably wouldn't stay here again in my lifetime.

    We used it for snowboarding, skiing, and my husband's birthday.

    We made a reservation here because we could rent snowboards and skis and walk to the slopes. The hospitality, meals, and facilities were all excellent. Especially the separate bath 108 steps from the entrance was superb in both ambiance and water quality. You can borrow boots, coats, and umbrellas at the entrance, so you can move comfortably even in the snow, and with the sulfur spring keeping you warm, I never felt cold. A shuttle service to Yamagata Station requires a reservation, but they kindly provided transportation to the bus terminal upon request, making access convenient and comfortable. If I have another chance to visit Zao (Zao), I would definitely like to stay here again.

    The staff provided us with various information (such as directions to the ski resort, lift tickets, and return bus details), allowing us to have a fulfilling two-day stay. The meals and the snacks in the Room were very delicious. It's a Hotel I would like to stay at again!

    I had a very comfortable stay.

    Every year, I spend the year-end at this Stays, and this time, the service from the staff has further improved, allowing me to have a very comfortable stay. The meals were also very delicious, and the meticulous attention was very much appreciated. If I were to make a request, it would be that the Shuttle Service to Yokokura Slope has decreased. I hope the 9 o'clock shuttle can be reinstated. I look forward to using it again during the ski season. Thank you very much!

    Wonderful

    The service is perfect. The room has been recently renovated and is functional. Although check-in is from 2 PM, I arrived shortly after noon. I asked if I could check in, but it was not possible. I don't quite understand, but certainly, accepting early check-ins can sometimes cause suspicion and confusion among guests. However, at many hotels, if a room is ready, early check-in about an hour before is usually allowed (though there are unpleasant cases where an extra fee is charged). This was somewhat disappointing, but I was able to use the (outside) flowing Onsen, and I spent the waiting time soaking in the bath. In the end, this seemed to be better. I was also allowed to use the ski room and the large public bath inside the property after check-out (I was in Zao for the first ski of the season). Arrangements for taxis were also perfect. The meal featured Yamagata beef as a highlight.
