I would love to visit again.

I stayed without knowing much about the history, but it exceeded my expectations. The lounge and in-room drinks were well-stocked, allowing me to enjoy a blissful time. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    Glad I chose this place.

I unknowingly made a reservation at Manyoya Annex. Although I had never been to the main building and was a bit confused until arrival, everything from the staff, philosophy, cuisine, to the facilities was impeccable. The cuisine, in particular, was visually stunning and absolutely delicious. The Momoyama Bath in the main building was breathtaking, and the bath in my room had an elegant charm that made it very comfortable. However, one issue stood out—the restroom on the second floor of the main building had a strong odor. I believe this might be due to old plumbing as it was noticeable even from the lobby area. I hope this can be improved as it feels like such a small flaw detracts from an otherwise perfect experience. Thank you very much to all of your staff for taking great care of us!

    Thank you.

The location was a bit difficult to access, but the staff service was excellent. The meals, featuring wild plants and creatively prepared vegetables, were delicious. The soba noodles were also incredibly tasty. The explanations about the dishes were clear, and the final rice dish was delightful as well. The bath had a charming atmosphere and provided great warmth. Overall, we were very satisfied with the food, hospitality, and bath experience.

I had such a great experience during my previous stay that I decided to return. Once again, I was able to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful time. The quality of the hot spring water is excellent. The bonito served at dinner was incredibly delicious. The handmade bookmark experience in the lounge was also enjoyable and made for a wonderful keepsake.

    It exceeded my expectations.

I stayed in the main building nearly 40 years ago, and I was able to enjoy the same atmosphere of the large public bath as I remembered. This time, I used the newly renovated facility and was able to relax while enjoying warm hospitality from the staff, excellent cuisine with perfect portions, and impeccable timing. I would love to stay here again!

    Thank you for your patronage.

Thank you very much for the wonderful experience. It was my first time staying here, and I found everything, including the facility, service, and meals, to be nearly perfect. The new annex was outstanding as expected, and I also enjoyed the Momoyama-style bath in the main building. It was a great opportunity to feel the long history of this Ryokan. The staff were very attentive and considerate of even small details—thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. As for amenities, it would be nice if bathrobes were provided. However, I understand that they might not align with the traditional Japanese Ryokan atmosphere. Since there were four bath towels for two people, they didn’t dry easily after repeated use despite hanging them up; it would be helpful if towel exchanges could be arranged during meal times or other intervals. On a positive note, I appreciated that even small details like thick absorbent foot mats were well-considered. Although the view from the room wasn’t particularly remarkable due to its location in an Onsen town, this setting allowed me to enjoy a nostalgic atmosphere unique to such areas—it was truly delightful. I look forward to visiting again during another season!

    Comfortable Accommodation

Upon entering the Room, we were greeted by beautiful furniture. We used the open-air bath attached to the Room about 7 times, which is our personal best record. The meals were all delicious, and the fresh wasabi paired perfectly with both meat and vegetables, so we had seconds. The male staff member in charge had a kind demeanor and was very pleasant. We look forward to visiting again in a different season.

    A well-rounded accommodation.

I stayed for a multiple night stay in mid-May. Celebrating the first anniversary of Shoraiso's reopening, I enjoyed a wonderful Onsen experience in a sparkling clean building from floor to ceiling, with completely free-flowing hot spring water. The staff at the accommodation were all exceptionally hospitable, and I was particularly impressed by JY, who assisted me over three days. They promptly addressed my various questions and requests, showcasing their professionalism and reflecting the excellent training provided by the proprietress. The meals were crafted with great enthusiasm by the head chef, evident not only in their presentation but also in the performance during service. However, on the second night's dinner when sushi was prepared right before us, I felt it might not fully align with what guests of this class of accommodation might expect—many likely enjoy sushi at counters in high-end sushi restaurants regularly. Additionally, I had access to Yorozuya's Momoyama Bathhouse and even received an explanation about this registered tangible cultural property by chance. The accommodation’s atmosphere combined with Yudanaka’s historical elements such as its town-center hot springs, communal baths, and monuments featuring haiku from poets like Issa, Basho, and Buson allowed me to fully immerse myself in its serene history. Thank you very much!

    Excellent Accommodation

It was an accommodation that satisfied us in every aspect. As it accommodates only five groups per day, every detail was carefully attended to, which was excellent. The food, in particular, was delicious, and we were impressed by the chef's passion for Japanese cuisine and the exquisite flavor of the dashi.

Accommodation You'll Want to Stay Multiple Nights

I stayed in a room on the second floor. When traveling, I often choose rooms with open-air baths for a bit of indulgence, and among accommodations in the same price range I've stayed at, Matsuraiso had the best dinner. While all places use delicious and luxurious ingredients, as someone in my late 40s, I often find the portions too large—so much so that by the second night, even skipping lunch doesn't make me hungry, and staying three nights feels impossible. However, Matsuraiso's dinner was perfectly portioned; I could enjoy everything served without feeling overly full. The last bit of rice I couldn't finish was kindly made into rice balls and delivered to my room. For those with a bigger appetite, eating all the rice would likely leave you comfortably satisfied. Since I didn't overeat at dinner, I could leisurely enjoy drinks (including delicious juices) in the lounge afterward. Back in my room, there were delightful surprises like St.Cousair cider (a treat for a cider lover like me) and fruit tea featuring local flavors—everything was perfect! The separate space for relaxing and dining away from the bedroom also kept things tidy and visually pleasant. The open-air bath with natural hot spring water flowing directly into it was slightly hot but came with a paddle for adjusting water temperature easily. Since it was winter when we visited, the cold outdoor air balanced out nicely with the warm bathwater; however, adjusting temperatures might take longer during summer months. I'd love to visit again during winter for another multiple-night stay!

The staff responded appropriately to our requests, allowing us to have a pleasant stay. One downside was that the neighboring house was visible beyond the garden of the open-air bath, which was slightly disappointing. Improving this aspect would make the experience even better.

    Stylish Accommodation

This trip was truly unforgettable. Upon entering the room, I was captivated by the tasteful furniture. Surrounded by such elegant pieces, which are hard to encounter in daily life, I felt fulfilled just being able to admire and use them up close. The beverages provided in the room were unique, including Nagano's dried fruit tea—something not commonly available—which made choosing what to drink next an enjoyable experience. The room allowed me to relax as if I were at home, whether sipping tea while gazing at the garden or simply lounging around. Unlike many places where rooms are dimly lit with indirect lighting at night, this accommodation had just the right brightness. As for the onsen and meals, both quality and quantity were excellent as others have mentioned. Additionally, during dinner service, a young female staff member shared delightful conversations filled with local pride that added to our enjoyment. Watching the dinner preparation process from the lounge was also a fun experience. Everything about this stay was comfortable and satisfying—a truly fulfilling time. Next time, I hope to explore Obuse and visit Shoraiso again. Thank you very much!

From the room to the bath and meals, it was an excellent accommodation!

We stayed as a couple in February to celebrate my birthday. Although it was a holiday, the accommodation being detached meant we rarely encountered other guests even though it was fully booked. The rebuilt property had an exceptional sense of cleanliness, and from the lobby's decor to the room's furniture (all custom-made!), every detail reflected thoughtful design. Our main purpose was to enjoy the Momoyama Bath, which exceeded expectations—we used it twice! The outdoor bath at night was illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere amidst the snowy scenery. However, as this is located in a separate building across from Shoraiso on the road, you need to walk there. If weather conditions are poor or you're concerned about catching cold after bathing, staying at their sister accommodation Yorozuya might be more convenient. Both breakfast and dinner were incredibly delicious. The dashi broth was particularly impressive, and we could tell that local ingredients were carefully selected for each dish. My husband loved their gin so much that he asked where he could buy it nearby; they kindly made inquiries by phone and provided us with information about local stores before our meal ended (we successfully purchased it the next day). The service throughout our stay was exceptionally polite and attentive—everything exceeded expectations! If I may add one suggestion: having room service would enhance the experience further since there weren’t many snack options available at their shop and meals are served early in the evening. With complimentary drinks already provided in-room, having some snacks would make post-dinner time even more enjoyable. Next time, I’d love to bring my parents along for another wonderful stay!

It was a satisfying stay. If I were to comment, I felt that both the common areas and the guest rooms were a bit too bright. Also, the lounge felt a bit small, but since there are only five rooms, I don't think it's much of a concern. I would like to visit again.

    Wonderful.

It was a very pleasant stay from check-in to check-out. The room features the beauty of Japanese architecture, combining both newness and nostalgia. The bath showcases the overwhelming history and creative beauty of the main building. The meals are the epitome of hospitality. I sincerely hope that you will continue this approach. A few minor criticisms from an otherwise wonderful experience. I would like a yumo-mi paddle to be provided in the room's open-air bath to temper the high temperature. Please provide a bag, such as a plastic one, to put wet towels in when going to and from the main building's large bath. Please prepare a coat in the room for going out when the temperature is low. P.S. The service by the Nakai-san was very wonderful and deeply moving.

    It was a wonderful Ryokan.

The warm hospitality and thoughtfulness of the Stays staff made this Property exceptional. The decor, cuisine, and Onsen were all impressive. You can enjoy the natural hot spring and meals without leaving your Room, making it perfect for a true retreat stay. The chef finished one of the dinner dishes in our Room, which was a delightful touch for us, as we love food and are curious about who prepares it. Everything was delicious. Just outside the Room, the lounge offers a variety of drinks, with the peach juice being a favorite. While we are already very satisfied, a more extensive menu would be even more delightful. It would be unique to offer freshly brewed coffee or matcha for those who don't enjoy alcohol. When we casually mentioned at check-in that we are not fond of alcohol, they kindly changed the aperitif to a non-alcoholic option. The Room's drinks also included a wide selection of non-alcoholic options, including fruit tea, which was a pleasant surprise. This might be a bit of a selfish request, but it would have been nice if the alcoholic beverages in the refrigerator were replaced with non-alcoholic drinks without us having to ask. This is a Property where one night is not enough, and we would love to return.

    We had a pleasant time.

While reminiscing about the previous Shoraiso, we visited this time. The rhododendron on the first floor was a Room with a bed, which seemed just right for us. Surrounded by the steam from the bath while snow was falling, we were able to spend a quiet and very comfortable time. The fireplace in the lounge was also warm, and while enjoying delicious apple and peach juice, we had fun with a little time making washi bookmarks, considering the color arrangement and gluing. The meals were well thought out, using local ingredients, and we enjoyed them while feeling the thoughtfulness. Despite the busy end-of-year period, we were able to spend a leisurely time for the first time in a while. We would like to visit again.

    I'm glad I went.

The new building that opened this year, a Japanese-style Ryokan, was a very satisfying Stays. Due to my very weak bronchitis, I can never stay at a Property where the tatami or wallpaper is old or not thoroughly cleaned, so choosing a Stays is always a struggle, but this Stays was the right choice. As you enter the entrance, there is a pleasant scent of wood, and the Onsen is gentle on the skin. The open-air bath attached to the Room was the largest I've ever seen, spacious enough for two people to enter comfortably. The staff's response was earnest and likable. The meals were just right in number and delicious for us, an elderly couple. However, it might be a bit lacking for younger people. The local peach juice at the free drink corner was very delicious. It was a Stays where you could see the attention to detail in everything.

    Perfect in every way!

It was my first time at Yudanaka Onsen. I went there for my birthday. The property is clean and tidy everywhere, the food is wonderful, and the open-air bath in the room is spacious and offers a great sense of openness. I also visited the Momoyama Bath in the main building. It has a rich history and was very impressive. Thank you for the perfectly balanced service and the birthday gift. This is a property where you can get value and satisfaction beyond the price. I definitely want to visit again. Please stay strong and don't let the fire defeat you.

Is this Ryokan a luxury Ryokan?

I have never written a comment before. This time, I am writing because there are a few points that concern me. 1. The food was poor, the ingredients were not good, and the portions were small. It took a very long time for the next dish to be served. 2. The temperature of the bath was high, so I checked with the front desk and was told to add water, but I don't want to add water to the bath when it's an Onsen with natural hot spring water. I wanted the water flow to be adjusted. They don't understand the feelings of customers who come to a Ryokan with natural hot spring water. The Ryokan is new, so it is clean. The bath is also clean. However, I am not satisfied.

I visited for the first time with my sister and her husband. First, I was impressed by the Japanese-style entrance of Shoraiso from the welcoming bus. We enjoyed Japanese sweets and tea before heading to our room. The spacious Japanese-style room with a dining area and open-air bath, as well as the adjoining washroom and shower room, were all generously sized and comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious meal at the dining area in our room, with the broth being particularly exceptional. The staff who took care of us during both dinner and breakfast were gentle and naturally engaging, making us feel as if we were at home. We have stayed at many new and old luxury ryokans, but recently felt something was lacking. However, this property made us feel warmly welcomed and attended to. Thank you very much. We will definitely visit again.

Please stay strong and don't give up in the face of the fire.

I was satisfied with the service, meals, and open-air bath. If I had to make a request, it would be that the backrest of the Room sofa is made of wood, which makes my back hurt. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.

It was a very satisfying Stays. The Room had shoji screens on all the windows, and when opened, although it was on the second floor, a well-maintained garden appeared in all directions, providing a sense of healing. The open-air bath in the room had a wooden scent, and the spring quality was to my liking, making it very pleasant. The service was very polite, easy to understand, and conveyed sincerity. The food was all well-prepared, and the broth, in particular, was delicious. Overall, it was a calm and quiet atmosphere, allowing us to spend a noiseless time.
