    Wedding Anniversary

    We stayed here for our important wedding anniversary. The Room was very quiet and comfortable! Unfortunately, after relaxing in the Onsen and returning to the living room, we found a beer and two glasses left on the table. It was unsettling to think someone had entered without permission, so we asked them not to do that; they said it was a mistake. Also, we had ordered flowers for our anniversary, but we were disappointed because the bouquet was cheap-looking and nothing like the reference photos we sent in advance. I recommend not ordering from that shop—their taste is far too poor. It doesn’t match the image of this Accommodation. We were satisfied with both the Room and the meals! Thank you!

    Wonderful

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, and I don’t think there are many buildings this lavish. However, I felt the seasoning of the meals was a bit strong. Also, during the late-night snack service, I was repeatedly asked if I wanted another drink—even when there was still some left in my glass. It came across as very pushy and made me wonder whether staff receive incentives for selling drinks such as alcohol (this applies only to the staff member who assisted me). Being attentive is different from being overly intrusive.

    Everything here is designed for your comfort.

    My wife and I stayed here as a reward after work. Everything was wonderful—the butler service, the food, and the atmosphere. The early evening with a hint of autumn and the refreshing mornings were both amazing. Staying for about two nights would be perfect. Next time, I’d like to try another Room as well. Thank you—my wife was very satisfied too. The meat miso we received was so good we couldn’t stop eating rice.

    A Wonderful Experience

    The building and facilities were clean and new, and it was a completely private space where we did not encounter any other guests at all. The meals were also very delicious, using locally sourced ingredients with creative touches. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    An Accommodation That Feels a Bit Off

    This was our first stay. Because my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary and my 60th birthday overlapped, we splurged on a 4-night, 5-day trip including the ferry. Since we were traveling with my elderly parents, it was reassuring that we could park the car right in front of the Room. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and the portions were just right—not too much or too little—so we really enjoyed it. However, on the second day at dinner, no one offered us a second drink; instead, mineral water was refilled repeatedly. The plum wine was great, though. Was it due to time constraints? We also booked an esthetic treatment on the second day. I quickly dozed off and felt truly blissful, and I was soothed by the lovely staff member’s smile. What disappointed us was that for our second Room Reservation, we were moved because there was an issue with the electric curtains and contractors needed access. That part couldn’t be helped. But then we were told to move Rooms again the next day because it would be fully booked—even though the bathroom curtain would remain down. We often prefer a Multiple Night Stay so we can unpack and relax. Even if it’s within the same property, having to repack our suitcases and move again felt frustrating. On top of that, we were told not to touch the curtains ourselves and to contact the front desk each time to open or close them. That’s fine—we stayed in a spacious Room even if it was dark and we couldn’t see outside. Also, when using the shower, water pooled under the sink area and in front of the bathtub because there is a gap under the door even when closed. Since you have to walk through that area to reach the toilet, it felt very cold. I think adding weather stripping or similar would help; if this had been my parents’ Room and they slipped, I would have been very worried. The Room itself is wonderful, but it was inconvenient not knowing which light switch controlled what (I understand labeling may not be possible). Lastly, I feel our impression would have been quite different if someone had said—even at checkout—“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by moving Rooms.”

    We had a wonderful holiday.

    We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay, and dinner was excellent, making full use of seasonal ingredients. On the second night, we were seated at the counter, where the head chef served the course right in front of us and finished by hand-forming sushi for us. We had the counter to ourselves, and enjoying both the conversation and the food made it a truly memorable experience. The Facility was wonderful, and we were very satisfied with the staff’s service. We are grateful for such a fulfilling holiday—it is a place we would love to visit again.

    The Niai Room was excellent.

    The weather was lovely, so the views from the Nilai Room, terrace, and bath were outstanding. We arrived a little early on check-in day, and the staff kindly drove us into Yufuin town, allowing us to enjoy a stroll. Both the meals and the hospitality from all the staff were truly wonderful. The Nilai Room was absolutely exceptional. Highly recommended.

    Highly satisfied

    I visited after a recommendation from an acquaintance. I stay at various Onsen Ryokan, and I think this is one of the best. The baths are especially wonderful. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious, and I was able to relax and take my time. However, on the way there, my car navigation directed me onto a back road, and I ended up on a narrow street and had some trouble.

    In the rain

    We arrived in the rain. The butlers kindly brought umbrellas for us, and it made a great first impression.\n\nHowever, (we had reserved two rooms to celebrate a recovery) the butler who escorted us to our Room did not explain any of the switches, amenities, or anything else. Even though we had mentioned the recovery celebration, there was no discussion about when to serve the cake or any coordination at all. Instead, they seemed focused only on our pre-booked spa time and kept rushing us.\n\nFor breakfast, we should have been able to choose either Western or Japanese cuisine, but we were told that “everyone has to choose the same one.” Even though we had reserved two rooms?\n\nOn the other hand, the staff member who assisted us at dinner and the foreign staff member at breakfast were both extremely pleasant. We enjoyed both the food and the cake. The spa was also excellent.\n\nThis Accommodation really showed how much your experience can change depending on which butler you get. It was disappointing because we had high expectations after reading the Reviews.

    A whole house all to yourself

    I had made my Reservation a long time ago and was really looking forward to it. I previously stayed at Gekkouju in Kurokawa Onsen and was deeply impressed, so this time I chose Yufuin. The Hotel staff’s hospitality was wonderful. I was especially touched by the thoughtfulness of the person in charge of the Shuttle Service. Our Room was Kohaku, with a semi-open-air bath. It’s a detached house that feels like a model home. There are a few things you could point out, but we spent quite a long time enjoying the bath and sauna. To mention just one: because the continuously flowing hinoki bath and the washbasin are in the same space, using the sink isn’t very convenient—the humidity and temperature get too high. Also, there is only one toilet near the entrance, so it’s far from the bedroom. It seems it is no longer all-inclusive, but alcohol isn’t overly expensive, so I think lowering the Accommodation price has made it easier to stay.

    It was a truly memorable trip.

    Thank you very much for your kind hospitality. We made a last-minute Reservation to celebrate my husband’s birthday a little early. We had long wanted to visit this Accommodation, so we were truly delighted that our wish came true. Everything about our stay was seamless, and the butler’s service was outstanding—thoughtful yet unobtrusive. We were impressed in every way. In particular, my husband is left-handed, and at breakfast the next morning the chopsticks were set for a left-handed guest. When we departed, you also kindly held your hand above the door as I got into the passenger seat so that I wouldn’t bump my head. We are deeply grateful for the butler’s countless anticipatory touches and warm consideration. Thanks to you, we enjoyed a comfortable stay until the very end. We are already talking about returning for a Multiple Night Stay next time.

    The Room is spacious.

    This Accommodation has no front desk; you enter your Room directly. It was close to the parking lot, so it wasn’t inconvenient. Maybe it was just this time, but all the staff who assisted us were men, and especially during meals my wife said she would have preferred female staff. The Room is spacious and open, and also has a sauna. The bath is of course large as well, but we noticed a slight chlorine smell. The food was excellent—each dish was carefully prepared using seasonal ingredients, and we enjoyed it very much. At check-out, the manager saw us off. Thank you for taking our photo.

    Blissful Accommodation

    Opening the front door, I was thrilled by the model-home-like atmosphere. Since the Onsen is the main feature, nearly half of the Room was taken up by the bath, shower room, sauna, washbasin area, and toilet. The living room, bedroom, and dining area were all spacious and very practical. The meals were a feast for the eyes and left both my stomach and heart satisfied. The staff’s attentive service was excellent. It was a wonderful Accommodation where you can spend truly blissful time. I took brochures home to share with my friends.

    Heavy Snowfall

    In warmer seasons, this Room seems perfect for relaxing on the terrace with a book while enjoying views of Mt. Yufu (it was heavy snow on this day). Meals are served in the Room. The private sauna was great, but it was a shame there was no cold plunge bath.

    I had an elegant birthday.

    In-Room check-in was a wonderful service. The spacious Room featured an Onsen in the center that seemed large enough for more than 10 people, and even came with a private sauna. The aroma massage felt so good that even I—someone who can’t usually nap—fell asleep for a moment. The cuisine was thoughtfully prepared; the clams, bamboo shoot rice, and homemade nukazuke pickles were especially delicious. It was the best birthday ever. However, one request: I would like outdoor footwear to go to the public bath. It was raining and dark in the morning, and right after leaving the property I stepped into a puddle and soaked my shoes, which took a lot of effort to dry.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    My husband, who is in the late senior years, and I enjoy visiting Onsen about once or twice a month as part of our “life wrap-up” journey. We found this Accommodation on IKYU and arrived with high expectations—but it exceeded them. Even though it’s described as all-inclusive, most places still have lounge closing hours. Here, everything was delivered to our Room like room service, and we even received a proper nightcap whisky after 9 p.m. The spa treatment was wonderful. I had planned to choose both facial and body treatments—until my husband said he wanted to try it for the first time in his life. Next time, I plan to enjoy it all to myself. My husband usually dislikes bathrobes because they feel stiff, but he actually wore this one and said, “This one feels nice on the skin.” From the heated towel rack to every little detail, we felt genuine care throughout. Of course, the Room was outstanding as well. We usually return to the same Accommodation every year, but we will definitely come back here again!!

    A wonderful Accommodation.

    I have visited Yufuin many times. This time I was planning to stay at a different Accommodation, but I learned that Gekkouju also has a property in Yufuin, so I chose to stay here. When staying in Yufuin, a Room with a view of Mt. Yufu is essential for me, so I decided on “Futaa i.” The weather was great that day, and we could see beautiful Mt. Yufu from the living room, bath, and terrace—absolutely satisfying. The spacious Room features refined furnishings, and the bedroom’s calming atmosphere in my favorite colors was wonderful. The bath is very large; we enjoyed soaking while looking at Mt. Yufu, and we were even able to watch the Olympics on the living-room TV. For dining, we had dinner in the in-room dining area on the first night, and on the second night we enjoyed an authentic sushi kaiseki at the counter in the restaurant building by the executive chef. Everything was delicious using Kyushu ingredients—and as someone who loves tableware, I especially enjoyed being captivated by the beautiful dishes and presentation. I was also pleasantly surprised to reunite with a staff member I had met at an Accommodation where I stayed previously. That place was wonderful as well, but this Accommodation is just as outstanding. Our Plan included select free-flow drinks and 45-minute spa treatments (on two days). Since we enjoy alcohol, we made full use of it. The spa treatments were also provided in our Room for both of us at the same time—truly attentive service throughout our stay. We stayed for two nights and were able to enjoy an incredibly luxurious time with Onsen baths, a sauna, delicious food, and drinks. We would definitely like to return. Areas for improvement From the time of Reservation there was mention of an assigned butler service (or similar), so I kept waiting to hear when they would contact me—but ultimately they only reached out a few days before arrival. I missed their call and waited for them to call again that day; they did not, so I called back myself. Even then I was told “Please wait a moment” and kept waiting—normally they should return my call promptly instead of leaving it up to me to follow up again after missing one call (in my opinion). This issue bothered me enough that I reduced my rating by one star.

    Heartwarming hospitality

    We arrived earlier than expected in the rain, but the staff kindly came to welcome us with umbrellas, and we were truly touched by their warm hospitality. The food was absolutely delicious, and at the spa we could choose the aroma and pressure; it was so comfortable that I nearly drifted off. Surrounded by beautiful furnishings, we were able to spend a relaxing and luxurious time. There are two private Onsen baths indoors, and we also enjoyed the sauna and the open-air bath at the adjacent Ryokan. In the nature of Yufuin, both our minds and bodies were healed. To celebrate my husband’s birthday, we received a message on a dessert plate as well as a lovely gift. We were very happy with such thoughtful attention, making it a memorable stay. We look forward to visiting again in another season.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    From the moment we arrived, the staff were extremely attentive and noticed us right away. Because each Room is in a separate building, it felt like a luxury residential area filled with grand mansions. The Room interior was stylish—like the standalone home I’ve always dreamed of. The sauna and bath were both excellent. The food was delicious, and all the staff were wonderful throughout our stay, so we were able to spend the entire time in a great mood. Even when we made a mistake, they never showed any displeasure and kindly helped us despite it being late—thank you so much. We also used the gym in the morning. The only thing that concerned me was that the lock on the women’s restroom door was difficult to open. I’m fairly strong so I managed, but someone with long nails or less strength might not be able to open it, so I thought it would be good to have that checked. Other than that, everything was truly comfortable and we had an amazing time. Next time, I’d love to stay for two nights and relax while enjoying that “mansion” feeling again.     Thank you for everything. An Accommodation that exceeds its price! The view from the Room was wonderful, and we could fully enjoy Mt. Yufu. The Room Facility was stylish, highly convenient, and very comfortable. With in-room dining and a private Onsen & sauna in the guest room, there was no need to go outside, and we were able to relax throughout our stay. I had mentioned that this trip was to celebrate my mother’s retirement, and the information had been shared with all staff members; my mother looked happy the whole time as they offered their congratulations. The spa treatments were also very professional and highly recommended. I’ve already made a Reservation for our next trip to celebrate my mother’s birthday. We look forward to staying with you again next time.

    It was a truly new k...

    It was a truly new kind of Facility—neither a Ryokan nor a Hotel—perhaps “innovative” is the right word. In particular, having the living area connected directly to the bathroom was a first for us. We are a married couple, so it was fine, but families or couples who are not yet very comfortable with each other might feel the need to be more considerate. Although it is a sister Facility to Gekkouju Kurokawa, it is completely different, so please keep that in mind. The meals were very delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was Japanese only; there was no Western option, and we did not see any guidance about it. It feels like an adults-only auberge for experienced travelers.

    A bathtub in the living room!

    Located slightly away from the center of Yufuin, it was a calm and peaceful stay. I’ve stayed at various accommodations, but having a bath in the living room was a first for me—very unique! Since it's fully visible, it might be best suited for couples or same-gender friends. I only used the sauna for three minutes. With the plan that included an esthetic treatment, the therapist kindly took care of my injured shoulder and provided a very relaxing session. There were two bedrooms, so my husband and I slept separately. I stayed on the lower floor and had a quiet sleep there. While bathrobes were provided, having some room wear would have been even better. The meals were delicious and filling! Although it was all-inclusive, there were limited options available through the tablet in our room. When I called to inquire via internal phone, they mentioned orders could be placed until 9 or 10 PM? It would have been helpful if this had been explained beforehand. The dedicated butler service felt somewhat underwhelming as well. While I’ve shared some critiques here, I hope these points can lead to improvements and enhanced services in the future. As someone who supports Japanese ryokans with pride as an advocate of Japan’s culture—thank you for providing personalized chopsticks with my name as part of your diamond benefits! I'll cherish them. Though it's far from home, I'd love to try staying in another room next time!

    We stayed at Yufuin ...

    We stayed at Yufuin Gekkouju for a sister's trip. The bath was very spacious, allowing us to relax and enjoy the Onsen. The meals were all delicious, and we were impressed by the thoughtful service of choosing chopsticks to our liking and having our names engraved on them. The hospitality of the staff was excellent, making our stay pleasant throughout. The furniture in the guest room was mostly from Cassina, creating a high-quality and comfortable space. On the other hand, it was slightly disappointing that we had to close the blinds during bathing due to the view facing the parking lot and that it wasn't a free-flowing hot spring. Even so, overall, it was a highly satisfying stay.

    Elegant Stay

    Check-in began in the room with a welcome drink and sweets, marking the start of a relaxing stay. The room is equipped with an Onsen and sauna. I immediately enjoyed both the Onsen and the rarely-used sauna, followed by a beer from the refrigerator. As it was an all-inclusive Plan, I also requested additional sparkling wine. At 4:30 PM, I had my second-ever spa treatment since Bali, right in the room—it was incredibly relaxing. Dinner was served in the room afterward; it was both beautiful and delicious. During dinner, I also enjoyed some sake. From arrival to departure the next day, everything—from refined hospitality to exquisite cuisine, Onsen, and sauna—was exceptional. Thank you for providing such an elegant stay!

    Is this what a suite room feels like?

    We stayed at Shuka for one night as a family of four (with a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old). The Room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with amenities. Overall, I feel the experience matched the price! It’s highly recommended for couples celebrating special occasions. The only disappointment was that there was no explanation about the breakfast menu. While I understand they were busy, showing that to guests at this price range felt questionable to me personally. However, we opted for an additional service where sushi was prepared in our Room, and it was excellent! The chef's warm hospitality and delicious food left us very satisfied. It was also delightful that the chef came outside to greet us during check-out! We also visited Tsukikouju in Kurokawa; my personal evaluation is: baths are better in Kurokawa, dinner is better in Yufuin, breakfast is better in Kurokawa, Rooms/Facilities are better in Yufuin, and service is superior in Yufuin as well. Judging by my wife’s reaction too, it seems Yufuin appeals more to women. If we have extra budget next time, we’d love to try staying in another Room!

    Impressive Hospitality

    I have experienced various accommodations so far, but Tsukikouju was perfect in every aspect! Starting with the airport pick-up and guided tours to tourist spots, everything was flawless and enjoyable. During the spa session afterward, my husband, who initially hesitated as he’s not a fan of such treatments, ended up feeling refreshed and delighted. Dinner was served leisurely in our room; not only was it delicious, but the smooth service for additional drinks made it an exceptional evening. The room and bath were spacious and comfortable—it felt almost too good to sleep! The next morning's breakfast was prepared on the balcony since the weather was nice, making for a refreshing start to the day. From the general manager to all staff members, their heartfelt hospitality truly shone through, providing an unparalleled experience of care. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!
