The dinner and breakfast buffets are exceptionally delicious.

Family stay After check-in, we could relax in the lounge. All-inclusive—plenty of snacks, too! Dinner had wonderful Kyushu flavors. Saga beef, sashimi, desserts, and even turban shells at breakfast. We ate so much, and the pancakes were amazing. After the bath, there was a soothing relaxation area with amazake available—it was truly calming. It made us want to come back again.

Recommended Hotels in Karatsu for Birthday Celebrations

After check-in, we relaxed in the lounge with our favorite drinks. Dinner was a buffet and exceeded our expectations. There wasn’t an overwhelming number of options, but everything—from seafood and meat to desserts—was delicious, and we enjoyed it with our preferred drinks and the view. Since our child’s birthday coincided with the trip, we also ordered a birthday cake; the staff were very thoughtful, and we were extremely satisfied. Our child carefully carried home the flowers received as a gift without damaging them. Thank you very much. The only disappointment was that there happened to be a large group of children staying at the same time, and some guests did not follow proper manners even though this is a Hotel. One group was shouting in the lobby, running around, fooling around in the elevator, and essentially taking over the table tennis area. Another group left a good impression—the supervisor instructed them not to use the elevator unnecessarily and they greeted others properly. It’s difficult because it’s more about supervision than the children themselves, but I wish the Hotel had addressed it more firmly. They were being too disruptive and it made us uncomfortable, so I informed the front desk; however, during an enjoyable trip I would have preferred not to have to say anything.

    Great view

We stayed in a Room on the 8th floor. The view was great! When the elevator stopped due to the Kumamoto earthquake, we were surprised, but we really appreciated how quickly it was restored thanks to the hard work of all the staff! We would have liked some nuts among the snacks in the 1st-floor lounge, and we also wished we could have enjoyed beer until the end (lol).

    It was comfortable.

We stayed in an ocean-side Room on the 8th floor. Since we made our Reservation seven months in advance, we were able to book at a reasonable price. We had been looking forward to the all-inclusive plan and enjoyed it from the moment we arrived. The bath is not an Onsen, but the ReFa shower and hair dryer were excellent! The food was delicious as well, and we would love to stay again if we have the chance.

    Friendly service

While the building is undeniably old, it is well maintained, and above all, the staff were kind and friendly, which made our stay very enjoyable. We especially enjoyed chatting with the restaurant staff. Thank you very much.

It was a truly wonderful Hotel.

Four of us—female friends for 50 years—stayed here together. The front desk staff were very pleasant, and in the lounge we enjoyed a variety of drinks and snacks both before and after dinner. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide selection, including made-to-order hamburgers right in front of us, beef shabu-yakiniku, sashimi, and more—everything was excellent. All-you-can-drink beer and many other beverages really surprised us. It didn’t seem like there was all-you-can-drink sake, though. The meals were enjoyable for both adults and children. The baths were spacious, clean, and comfortable. We were also happy to have ReFa showerheads and hair dryers. This is a Hotel we would love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    Bathing Hours

Since we went out for dinner, we would have appreciated a slightly longer bathing time. We enjoyed breakfast in a scenic setting and were able to relax. The front desk staff were also polite and helpful. Thank you for your hospitality.

What Makes Us Different from Other Hotels

For Guests Who May Be Concerned For Multiple Night Stay of up to 3 nights, Rooms are not cleaned. I stayed in a Japanese-style Room; the bedding is stacked in the corner of the Room. Please make your own bed by laying out the futon and covering it with the sheet. For bath towels and face towels, please bring your voucher to the front desk and exchange it for that day’s towels for each night of your Multiple Night Stay.

    An old mammoth-style Business Hotel.

This was the only Room with a bed available, so I stayed here. It was a holiday weekend, so it couldn’t be helped, but the place was crowded with children and international guests. The Room was spacious, but very old. I had never seen such a retro in-room safe before. The unit bathroom was small, but I used it anyway since it felt better than the noise in the large public bath. The bed had a comfortable firmness and was easy to sleep on, which was a relief.

This was my first stay. They kindly accommodated my last-minute request for Shuttle Service. I was satisfied with the drink service and the wide variety of buffet options. The large public bath and lobby were also very clean. One minor concern was that the Room curtains were stained, and voices from the hallway could be heard in the Room. Overall, I was satisfied.

Was the restaurant under renovation? Breakfast and dinner were served in the banquet hall. Tables were set up like a classroom, and when two people sat facing each other with trays, there was barely enough space. Also, since it was a banquet hall, it was extremely large. It was nice that there was no waiting time, but with children it was very difficult to go and pick up food. For some reason there were many ethnic-style dishes, and I’m sorry to say the selection was somewhat disappointing. The Room was old but clean, and the large public bath was also clean. The front desk staff were kind, so everything except the food was good.

We had a wonderful Golden Week.

I usually stay here on my own, but this time I invited my husband—who’s usually too busy to travel—for a short Golden Week getaway. As there were many guests, the buffet was served in the banquet hall instead of the usual restaurant. While there wasn’t a view, the menu was almost the same as always, and since the venue was spacious, we were able to enjoy both breakfast and dinner at a relaxed pace even with so many people. Seeing families of all ages happily enjoying their meals also warmed our hearts. I prefer a river-side Room, and that day’s changing scenery was wonderful—the sunset, the bridge lights at night, and the ripples on the river in the morning. The Room felt very spacious, so we could truly unwind and sleep soundly. My husband was also pleased with how many vegetables there were in the meals. It turned into a lovely Golden Week day. Next time we come as a couple, we might play table tennis.

    The staff’s smiles are wonderful.

The housekeeping staff do an excellent job—the large public bath is always clean. The front desk staff explained everything slowly and clearly, which made it easy to understand. Thanks to them, I had a very pleasant stay. The river-side Japanese-Western style Room was spacious, and the illuminated bridge looked beautiful.

    Spacious and excellent.

Both the Room and hallways are spacious, so you can relax comfortably. The property is a bit old, but it has been renovated and is clean and comfortable. There aren’t many restaurants nearby; it’s about a 30-minute walk to the downtown area around Karatsu Station, and about a 20-minute walk to the yakiniku restaurant near Higashi-Karatsu Station. Taxis will also come if you call one. The scenery is beautiful as well—set between a river and the sea. The large public bath includes a sauna, and there is also a coin laundry, making it perfect for refreshing yourself.

    Third stay!

I stayed here twice when it was the Royal Hotel. Now that it has become Mercure, it’s even more convenient and I really enjoyed my stay. With the all-inclusive plan, I may have had a little too much to drink.

    Comfortable with well-equipped Facilities

We stayed here for a girls’ trip before and after golfing, and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, and there was always a great selection of drinks available, including alcohol, which we really appreciated. There was also a relaxation room and even table tennis facilities—something you don’t often see these days—so it was a very fun stay. I misplaced something during our stay, but the staff searched for it so diligently; everyone was truly hospitable. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us. One thing—maybe I just didn’t look carefully enough—but I would have loved to have a hair cap available. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you so much.

Even with an egg allergy, I was able to enjoy my meals with peace of mind. The menu selection was extensive, which was great. It’s a little distance from the station, but there is also a convenience store along the same row as the hotel, the view is lovely, and it made me feel like I had come back to Karatsu. This time it was a Multiple Night Stay, and it’s a hotel I would definitely like to use again if I have the chance.

    The breakfast was great.

I didn’t have dinner, but the breakfast I had in the morning was truly delicious. There were lots of local items as well. The grilled turban shell was especially tasty, and the other dishes were also carefully prepared—overall, I thought it was wonderful. What disappointed me was the bath. I understand that there wasn’t an open-air bath, but it felt like the cleaning wasn’t thorough enough. The wash buckets and chairs in the bath when I went in first thing in the morning were visibly rough and unpleasant to use. I wonder if there is no cleaning done at night. The Room was a classic type, but it was spacious and nice. It was riverside, and I think the view might actually be better than on the ocean side. Overall, it was affordable and good value. I was satisfied with the meals. Just one more thing: there were many small children in the lounge from 9 p.m., and it was noisy, which was disappointing. Since alcohol is served at night in the lounge, I felt that allowing children to come and go might not be appropriate.

I thought it was all-inclusive, but it wasn’t.

The next morning, it was disappointing that no alcohol was served at all. The dinner buffet also had a lot of fried foods, and there was no fresh sashimi. Wouldn’t it be better if the shop stayed open until guests depart in the morning?

    Great.

The view from the Room was great, and the Room was very clean, so I had a comfortable stay. I have also stayed at Mercure Fukuoka Munakata, but the view here is definitely better. At Munakata there was ice cream in the post-bath area, but it seemed there wasn’t any here. At dinner, there were a few dishes that made me think it was some kind of international fair; personally, I would have preferred classic options like roast beef or steak. The fish dishes—such as simmered fish and salmon—were delicious. I reduced my rating for service because the person clearing dishes in the restaurant felt a bit unfriendly. I brought my used plates to the cart when they piled up, but there was no smile or greeting... I would have appreciated a smile. Mercure properties are nice because the building is warm throughout; even in the changing area it never feels cold. Perhaps because there is no open-air bath and outside air doesn’t come in, even the washing area is pleasantly warm. The bath itself is spacious enough that I was satisfied even without an open-air bath. My elderly mother seemed to like it as well, so I’d like to visit again.

    A bit disappointing.

The bath was not an Onsen. I think the river-side location is better than the sea side. The sea-side view has obstructions, so it feels like it’s “sea side” in name only and the scenery is blocked. As with other Mercure properties, there is a wide variety of drinks, but the space is small and there isn’t enough seating. It’s a Hotel that matches its price.

    The meals were excellent.

Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent. We especially appreciated the Saga beef sukiyaki, grilled turban shell in its shell, and pancakes. The meals were very satisfying. We also enjoyed making the goshuincho. We tried Karatsu tea with lemon as well, and it was very refreshing and delicious. The disappointing points were that there were not enough power outlets in the Room, and although we had a Plan that included making a goshuincho and receiving a lottery ticket, we realized after checking out (once we got into our car) that we had not received the lottery ticket. When we returned to the front desk to let them know, we were asked, “Wasn’t it left in your Room?” It wasn’t there, and while they discussed it with other staff (saying it might be in the safe), they eventually brought what seemed to be a prepared lottery ticket from the back office at the front desk. We had to wait quite a long time. Since you should have known at check-in that this was our Plan, wouldn’t proper service be to provide it at check-in or have it ready at check-out? We hope this will be handled properly for future guests on the same Plan. Thank you.

    A bit disappointing.

I stayed at this Hotel to attend an event. Since it offered Diamond benefits, my expectations were probably too high. There is a lounge, but it felt more like a food court. Sparkling wine was available, but it was dispensed by pressing a glass against a machine rather than served from a bottle. There were simple snacks like nuts, but there were many children opening and closing lids, putting their bare hands into the containers, and even returning food from their plates back into the dishes... I was so disappointed that I left. The Room was spacious, but the bathroom was an extremely small unit bath. The sofa and lighting were not appealing at all, and the overall atmosphere reminded me of a private hospital room. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. Without the large public bath, there would have been no place to relax. There were many group guests from Korea who seemed to be having parties in their rooms; perhaps the walls are thin, because noise carried through even with the door closed. Breakfast was buffet-style with some variety, but the fish for ochazuke in particular did not taste good—it felt like quantity over quality. The coffee had no aroma or flavor and was not satisfying. The tables were set very close together and quite small, and there were carts for children that felt very obstructive. I felt this Hotel has many areas that need improvement.

    It was a wonderful day.

I stayed here to mark a special occasion. On the day, I was upgraded to a suite, and there was even an unexpected surprise... Dinner and breakfast enjoyed with the beautiful views of Karatsu were wonderful as well. Roasting marshmallows in the lounge at night is also a great memory. I love Karatsu too, so I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

The complimentary drinks were a nice touch. The unique offerings like cotton candy and soft serve ice cream, which are not commonly found in other Hotels, were delightful, and the meals were very delicious. Our Room was upgraded to a suite, which was incredibly spacious with stunning views of the illuminated Karatsu Castle and the sea—truly satisfying. However, while clean, the Facility overall felt dated, and I noticed some uneven flooring. The front desk staff provided excellent service for which I am very grateful.

    Lighting

We stayed in a Japanese-style Room as a family. The lighting at night had no dimming options, so we had to leave the light on because our child was scared. It would be great if there were adjustable settings. For adult yukatas, it would be nice if they were also available in separate pieces like the children's ones.

    Repeat Stay

We visit every year for our anniversary. The thoughtful service is much appreciated, and both dinner and breakfast maintain high quality, leaving us very satisfied. The meals are the highlight of this Hotel. One small regret was that the staff cleared plates quickly during breakfast, though it was close to 10 AM, so it’s understandable. It was slightly inconvenient that there were no extra towels stocked in the bathroom, but the Room was thoroughly cleaned and we were very happy with our stay. We hope the sweet sake "Sakihime" from the relaxation room will be available for purchase at the shop in the future. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful experience! This is a fantastic Hotel!
