    Open-Air Bath and Bread

    As always, the outdoor bath at night is far too dark to use. There is almost no lighting, and while it may be intentionally kept dim, it feels unsafe—I’m afraid I could trip and get injured, so I can’t bring myself to use it. Also, the bread (buns) used for the hamburgers and hot dogs served at meals is too hard and ends up ruining the taste of what would otherwise be good hamburgers and hot dogs.

    It was very good.

    The all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink options were very budget-friendly, which was great. It was pretty noisy and hectic, but we had a good time.

    I used the sofa bed, but it wasn’t very comfortable—the springs hurt. When I asked the front desk around 11:00 PM to lend me some extra bedding, they responded right away. Thank you very much.

    The guest reception system was excellent.

    My stay was smooth and comfortable. Thank you. There are a few things I would like you to fix. The sliding door at the entrance to the large public bath is far too stiff. Older guests were struggling with it, and I’m concerned there seems to be no sign of it being repaired. Also, I would like a clock in the bath area. I couldn’t relax because I kept worrying about meal times. In addition, the open-air bath is too dark—there were days when the lights weren’t on at all, and even when they were on, there was only dim lighting. Some women said they felt scared to enter. Also, someone said the floor in the women’s changing room smelled so bad it made her feel sick. The sauna floor mats are not replaced either, so they are sticky and smell. These are all issues related to the baths that I would like you to address.

    A Quick Onsen Getaway

    The price was so reasonable that we went planning to have dinner and use the baths. The indoor bath and open-air bath were excellent, and the water was great. Dinner is a buffet, so it was about what you’d expect. We brought our kids too, and thought it would be nice to come as a family. If there were a pool, we’d definitely go again.

    The dining options were unclear.

    The Room had an unpleasant odor, perhaps due to its age. I guess it couldn’t be helped. Meals were buffet-style. I only realized on the way back from breakfast that the layout started before the entrance. At check-in, they asked if it was my first time, and I wish they had explained how everything worked. The staff other than the front desk were pleasant and welcoming.

    As expected from Mercure.

    We stayed for one night on a family trip with our dog. Check-in was smooth, and it was convenient that all the main Facility areas were on the first floor. The Room was spacious, and we were very satisfied with the wide variety of dishes, which made choosing fun. We would love to visit a different Mercure Hotel as well. Toyama was an even more wonderful place than we expected, both for sightseeing and dining.

    Dormitory-style setup

    The property is largely self-service, so you should not expect much hospitality. Also, the beds seem well past their usable lifespan, and the mattresses were noticeably sagging unevenly. Fortunately, the buffet breakfast is recommended; however, the time slots are strict, and you need to make a Reservation in advance to be able to attend. There were also issues such as no towels being provided at the Onsen—there were too many to list.

    There was one wheelchair user in our group, but at breakfast we were shown to a seat where the aisle was too narrow and crowded to pass through. When we tried to take a detour, a staff member loudly told us, “Not that way.” After we explained that we could not get through, the staff helped us pass, but they loudly announced “A wheelchair is coming through” and moved other guests out of the way. After the meal, when we told staff that it was still too crowded to leave, they said nothing. We wanted to be guided to an accessible seat with easy entry and exit for a wheelchair. Our Room was on the top floor. We were really looking forward to seeing the Tateyama mountain range, but the window was frosted glass so we could not see anything. Of course, the window also only opened slightly. It was very different from what we had been told in advance, which was very disappointing. On our way out, there was a centipede inside near the Hotel entrance. With so much nature around, insects are understandable, but having a centipede inside the Hotel is unpleasant. The front desk staff service was good.

    We had a wonderful stay. The breakfast was especially excellent. The bath was also great and very relaxing. If I had to mention one thing, I wish there were a few more elevators.

    After reporting that very loud noise was coming from the floor above our Room, we were told, “The elevator is nearby, so...”. If so, is aging of the Facility the issue?

    Highly satisfied

    I live in Toyama City, and this was my first stay. The Room was spacious and I could relax, and the view from the Room was wonderful. The scenery was beautiful, with panoramic views of the green mountains and the Tonami Plain. I was very satisfied with the meals, and it’s great that all drinks are included in the all-inclusive plan. Both the large public bath and the open-air bath were clean, and it offered excellent value for money—we’re already talking about coming again as a couple. I appreciate being able to use it as casually as going out to eat. Thank you very much for everything. It also left a great impression to see how efficiently the staff worked.

    Great value for money

    I was worried because the Reviews were extremely harsh, but it was worth the price—if anything, it felt so cheap that I wondered whether the Hotel could stay in business. Expecting luxury service without paying for it is unreasonable; I think it’s fair for the price.

    Summer Vacation with My Grandchildren

    I stayed with my daughter and three grandchildren. We arrived around 7:00 PM, and since it was summer vacation, the hotel was very busy. Our dinner buffet Reservation was for 7:45 PM, but there was a great variety of dishes. The kids’ area was well stocked too, and they were especially happy to try making cotton candy for the first time. The Room was a spacious Japanese-western style room, and the futons were already laid out, which was very helpful. Breakfast also had local specialties like Black Ramen, and everyone was very satisfied. Next time, I’d like to arrive with more time to spare and enjoy the lounge as well.

    I’m satisfied.

    The Onsen was very relaxing, and with the all-inclusive plan we enjoyed plenty of drinks, so we were very satisfied.

    The best trip with my dog! The Onsen, meals, and Room were all extremely satisfying.

    This was our second stay. We learned that pets are welcome, so we visited with our two dogs. Right after arrival, we enjoyed two beers each with the lounge drink service, and all the travel fatigue melted away! During the dinner buffet, our dogs ate the food we brought in the Room and waited quietly. The Room was kept very clean and tidy, and we were fully satisfied with the relaxing Onsen and the delicious buffet. (If I had to ask for one thing, I would have been even happier if there had been sushi at the buffet!) It was also very helpful that we could buy late-night cup noodles and canned beer at the front desk. “Kaiomaru Park” and “Ebie Seaside Park,” about a 30-minute drive away, were perfect for walks, and we also enjoyed lunch with our dogs at “Olive House” in Tonami. We made wonderful memories on our first trip staying together with our dogs. We would definitely like to stay again!

    We’re sorry the Room did not meet your expectations.

    We chose a spacious Room on the top floor and were really looking forward to our stay. However, the first thing we noticed upon entering was numerous brown stains on the carpet. A few wouldn’t have bothered us, but they covered a fairly large area and were dark in color—possibly coffee or mud—so they stood out and made us feel very uncomfortable not knowing what they were. A small mat had been placed over part of the area as a temporary measure, but it didn’t hide the stains at all, and it was laid down wrinkled and looked dirty, which made the Room feel unhygienic. Throughout our stay we couldn’t relax because we kept worrying about cleanliness. The Room also felt generally old-fashioned, and it had a distinctive odor. We were concerned that the Hotel might mistakenly think we caused the stains, so we called the front desk immediately after arrival to report them. We were only told, “Of course we don’t think you caused them, so it’s fine. We’re sorry,” and that was all. If this was the condition of the Room, we would have appreciated being informed properly in advance. That was very disappointing. Aside from that, we really enjoyed the buffet meals, and there were activity areas inside the building such as hands-on experiences, a playroom, and events like searching for little people—our children were delighted. We had such a fun time that it felt like there wasn’t enough time to do everything. Thank you for taking care of us.

    Great value for money

    This was my first stay. As a Diamond benefit, I received (1) early check-in, (2) various souvenirs, and a much-appreciated Room upgrade. Perhaps because it was during the summer holidays, the lounge and the dinner and breakfast buffets felt a bit busy, but the staff worked efficiently so everything ran smoothly. With Toyama’s local specialties, alcoholic drinks, and kids’ options available, I truly felt it offered excellent value for money in today’s climate.

    Buffet

    Prices have returned to what they were before the recent rise. The almonds and tomatoes were delicious. The sashimi and cakes had also improved. It was great that the bathing hours were extended.

    A New Way to Travel

    This was my second stay at a Mercure Hotel, following my visit to Ise-Shima. Both Hotels offered great value and satisfaction beyond the price. Compared with other Accommodations in the same price range, the service and meals felt one or two levels above. I stayed here with my grandchildren during the first half of summer vacation, and there were programs and services for children, so they were very happy as well. The staff were also quick and efficient, which made for a pleasant experience. Thank you for creating a “new style of travel.” If I have the opportunity, I would like to consider staying at other Hotels too. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    Restaurant (Second Venue)

    This time I stayed with my daughter’s family, and it was great that the dining area for families with children during summer vacation was set up in the same large hall as the play area. Even if the kids were noisy or running around, only families with children were there, so we could enjoy our meal without worrying. I’d like to stay again with my grandchild while the second venue is available.

    Please be mindful not to overeat or drink too much.

    We were told we could use the lounge, and when we went, it turned out that alcohol such as beer was also all-you-can-drink. Alcohol was also all-you-can-drink during the dinner buffet. After dinner, we could still use the lounge, and in the after-dinner lounge, whiskey and shochu were all-you-can-drink as well. The buffet was delicious—I ate too much, and I drank too much alcohol.

    Because one bath was...

    Because one bath was out of service, the remaining bath was used alternately by men and women, so bathing time was reduced by half and it was too crowded to relax. Also, I was bothered by noise from nearby Rooms (even though sounds like toilet flushing or water/drainage were not noticeable). In addition, during meals I often saw yukata sleeves touching the food when people were serving themselves.

    Great value for money and very satisfying!

    This was my first stay with Mercure. It was conveniently located about an hour from my home. This time, the men’s large public bath was under renovation, so we had to take turns using the women’s large public bath, which was inconvenient. Other than that, I was satisfied. I will stay again.

    I was very satisfied with my stay.

    During our stay, the Onsen was under construction, so it was disappointing that it had to be used alternately by men and women. Otherwise, we were satisfied with both the Room and the meals. The Hotel is well located for driving to Takayama, Shirakawa-go, and Eiheiji Temple. However, there is no downtown area near the Hotel, so it may not be suitable for those who want to go out on foot. We would like to stay again.

    Highly satisfying

    The Facility is a bit old, but it was clean and didn’t bother me. The buffet was very original, and even though I’ve been getting tired of buffets lately, I really enjoyed it! Great value for money and very satisfying. We stayed in a Japanese-style room, but the only thing that concerned me was that the futon mattress was thin and I could feel the floor underneath.
