    It was wonderful.

    It was wonderful. I had a family grave visit in Minami-Shinshu, so I made a Reservation at Grand Mercure and decided to go a bit farther up. The view was amazing, it was cool and comfortable, and the food was delicious. My wife says she wants to stay at Grand Mercure every time, so we’d love to visit again.

    The perfect Hotel for families with children

    I stayed at this Accommodation because I had errands to run with my child. There were plenty of toys and kid-friendly meals, and my child really enjoyed it. The adult meals were fine if you went early, but at times it was so crowded that the food wasn’t being replenished. Alcohol was available for free, so I didn’t have to order each time, which was convenient. My child also liked the kids’ meal corner. In the evening, the lounge was so crowded there was nowhere to sit. Even though it’s called a lounge, the selection of alcohol wasn’t very appealing, and I had concerns about cleanliness, so we ended up not using it. The staff were very friendly and pleasant.

    The children were thrilled.

    By booking early, we were able to stay at a great rate. Compared with our stay about a year ago, many things had changed this time, which was a pleasant surprise! The snack corner and the play area were a big hit with the kids. We added breakfast only, and there was a wide variety of items. It was especially fun to have ice cream and cotton candy. With three elevators for the size of the Hotel, it could be hard to get on during peak times for meals or the baths, and we sometimes waited about 10 minutes, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, it was great value and we had a wonderful time, so we would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    It was comfortable.

    It was the most reasonably priced twin Room, but it was spacious with a great view, making it a very satisfying space. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes in a large dining venue.\nIt was disappointing that there were too few reception staff, so both check-in and check-out took longer than expected.

    Amazing!!!!!

    I love traveling and stay at various Hotels across different prefectures, and this was the best Hotel I’ve ever stayed at!! After check-in, snacks and drinks were all-you-can-eat and drink, manga was unlimited, and although I didn’t use it myself, there were plenty of spaces for kids to play—so you never get bored during your stay! The breakfast buffet had everything from Nagano specialties to Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes—there wasn’t enough time or stomach space to try it all (lol). From check-in to check-out, it was truly an amazing experience!! When I visit Nagano again, I will definitely make another Reservation!!!

    We really enjoyed our Hotel stay!

    We stayed here on the first day of our 3-night, 4-day trip to Nagano. We checked in after 3:00 p.m. and spent a relaxing time until dinner—enjoying the Onsen, reading in the lounge area, playing table tennis, and having a beer at a leisurely pace. It was an extremely hot day and we were tired from sightseeing, so being able to check in early and rest was really appreciated. Dinner offered an overwhelming variety of dishes, including Japanese-Western fusion as well as some ethnic options—more than we could finish. Everything was well seasoned, there were plenty of desserts, and the alcohol selection during the meal was extensive: beer, sparkling wine, wine, sake, shochu, and various liqueurs. There was also a buffet corner for small children with a cotton candy machine, which gave our kids a fun experience. It seems this used to be a Japanese-style Hotel before it was renovated into Mercure. The front desk floor and Onsen area had an international feel, while the lounge area and guest rooms still retained some of the old charm—which may be part of why it’s available at such reasonable rates. Since we travel with children, our key points when choosing a Hotel are things like a spacious Onsen, Japanese-style rooms (tatami), play areas for kids to enjoy themselves, and plenty of dining options—and this place had it all. Our whole family was very satisfied with our stay. Nearby are Matsushiro Castle Ruins (Matsushiro-joshi), Sanada Residence (Sanada-tei), Sanada Treasure Museum (Sanada Homotsukan), and Tsuruya supermarket—all within walking distance. There are likely more sights as well, but because of the heat we couldn’t do much sightseeing. Still, since we could enjoy ourselves at the Hotel anyway, it all worked out in the end. One small disappointment: our child wanted to wear a yukata as loungewear indoors but only samue were available—perhaps due to sizes being out of stock—so they were disappointed (they love history and wanted to get into the mood by wearing one). The samue fabric felt sturdy and reassuring in its own way; however it seemed too warm for such hot weather. Also, part of the mat flooring in the table tennis room was peeling up slightly and looked potentially dangerous; I hope this can be addressed. Those are our requests—overall it’s a great Hotel and we would like to stay again!

    We stayed here for a family trip.

    We stayed at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa for a family trip. At checkout, we had quite a bit of luggage and later realized after returning home that we had forgotten something in the car. Since we were traveling with our children and family, it took time to confirm, and no matter how much we searched, we couldn’t find it—so we contacted the front desk at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa. They kindly looked for it and found our lost item. Today, it arrived by delivery, and we are truly grateful. The front desk’s exceptional support became a wonderful memory of our trip.

    The lounge was spacious, which was great! It was nice that we could enjoy drinks until 11:00 PM! The buffet had a fantastic variety—excellent! I’d love to see more chairs for outdoor cooling down by the sauna. I really liked that the amenities were Sekkisei; it’s rare to find places that provide body lotion, so I was happy. It would be perfect if you could also provide facial cleanser in the large public bath.

    A dust-covered kettle spout

    1) The kettle spout was covered in dust. 2) Although it is described as a spa, there were no towels provided in the large public bath. 3) There were no complimentary drinks available in the lounge. So do you have no intention of actually offering a spa & resort experience? This was disappointing, as it’s not something I usually encounter with Japanese Hotel groups. I don’t think I’ll use the Mercure group again.

    We’re doing our best with our all-inclusive plan, but…

    The food and drink services felt very well done. I’ve had post-bath drinks at many Hotels, but this was my first time trying amazake, and it was the best I’ve had so far. The restaurant, the Onsen entrance, and the lobby have been renovated, and the space was comfortable, wrapped in a lovely fragrance. On the other hand, while the guest room was spacious, it was too plain—below a Business Hotel level. I made my Reservation through IKYU because I trust them, but my room was on the 4th floor, which seemed to be one of the lowest floors. The entire view from the room was just the lobby roof. It wasn’t fully booked either; other guests appeared to be staying on higher floors. I was disappointed that a Reservation via IKYU resulted in such a low-floor room. If lower-floor rooms are assigned to offer more reasonable rates, please state this clearly on your booking site.

    I’d love to stay here again!

    The lounge has many thoughtful touches that let families relax, and since the children were having fun, we were able to unwind as well. The food was delicious and hygienic, the building did not feel dated at all, and the staff provided courteous service, making our stay very comfortable. We would like to stay here again.

    Overall rating is 5, but

    It was an all-inclusive Hotel trip. We stayed at three Hotels with breakfast and dinner included, and this was our first night. From the Hotel website, I thought alcohol at dinner would cost extra, but it was included! The only disappointment was that the snacks available at other times were a bit limited. I know I’m being picky. By the way, there were three of us staying, but I was the only one drinking alcohol! Overall, we were satisfied!

    The all-inclusive plan was great.

    I stayed with my toy poodle. The all-inclusive plan offered excellent value, as alcohol was included even during the dinner buffet. The food was delicious as well. The lounge, renovated from the former banquet hall, was very spacious and easy to use. I’m grateful to be able to stay with my dog, and I would be happy if you could create a pet-friendly area in part of the lounge. I’d love to visit again.

    We’re sorry to hear that.

    I booked this as a gift for my parents, but the Room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. When I reported it, we were moved to another Room that smelled even more like smoke, and we had no choice but to endure it. I understand that it was crowded and there may not have been other Rooms available, but since we are not used to cigarette smoke, being in that space was extremely uncomfortable. It was such an unpleasant experience that I wanted a refund.

    For breakfast, buy something at the nearby supermarket and enjoy it (dinner can be from the supermarket as well).

    I thought this Hotel would be run the same as before, but I ended up having dinner at the supermarket next door every time. However, the breakfast area was extremely crowded and I didn’t feel like eating. Previously, even when it was busy, they used a two-time-slot system, so I could enjoy breakfast at a relaxed pace. Next time I stay, I plan to book without meals and buy food at the supermarket next door instead.

    Hotel with a Great View

    We stayed at this Hotel for a visit to Zenkoji Temple. A shuttle bus runs from Nagano Station to the Hotel, which was very convenient. With no tall buildings around, we could enjoy a panoramic view of the Northern Alps, and felt it was a Hotel with great views. The open-air bath is an Onsen that warmed us up thoroughly; even after bathing, we kept sweating for a while, and it felt detoxifying. Meals were buffet-style, with a wide variety of dishes both morning and night. The salad vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes were especially delicious. There were also noodles like soba and ramen that you can cook on the spot and eat freshly made, so we were very satisfied with the dining experience. The lounge also offered complimentary drinks and alcohol (depending on the time), and there were plenty of manga available; some guests spent their free time there. The kids’ area was spacious as well, and families seemed to be enjoying it. There is also a supermarket within walking distance from the Hotel, where we found interesting local original seasonings for sale.

    I was very satisfied.

    Compared with Mercure Yatsugatake, the lounge food was always well stocked, and both dinner and breakfast were very delicious and satisfying. The Room felt small, and I thought the baths (indoor and open-air) were small for the Hotel’s capacity. Overall, it was a very satisfying Hotel, and I would like to come again.

    Holiday

    The lounge was lively, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. On the other hand, the guest rooms were quiet and relaxing. The wait for the elevator was rather long. I’d be happy if the bathing hours were a bit longer. The meals were very carefully prepared and delicious. One downside: I unfortunately encountered a staff member whose service was extremely poor. It stood out all the more because everyone else was very courteous, and it really showed how much a single person can affect your impression. I’d like to visit again someday.

    The lounge access was a bit disappointing.

    Because drinks were not allowed to be taken out when using the lounge, I would like this improved so we can relax and enjoy drinks in our Room. Especially at night, there were many people drinking alcohol, and for those of us who do not drink, it felt uncomfortable. There were only snacks that go well with alcohol, such as rice crackers and nuts; there were no cookies or chocolate for coffee. When I saw it on YouTube, there were gummy candies, but there were no child-friendly sweets either.

    A bit disappointing.

    I stayed about two years ago, and the Facility, service, and food were all excellent, so I chose to stay again. The bath and service were just as good as before, but there were too many inbound and group guests, and it felt like the overall quality—especially the meals themselves and the dining venue—had dropped considerably compared to last time. It was a bit disappointing.

    One of the large public baths was out of order, and there was no explanation that access would be on a rotating schedule!

    At check-in, there was no verbal explanation at the front desk… There was a flyer, but I wanted it explained again. I thought the “men/women alternating system” simply meant the baths would switch the next morning, as is common… I didn’t expect one to be unavailable… As a result, the bath was extremely crowded! I rushed in and didn’t feel like I really got to enjoy it… It may have been an unavoidable breakdown, but there was no apology about it… Wouldn’t some kind of service such as a refund or alternative compensation be appropriate?

    I stayed here while attending a wedding.

    This time we stayed without meals, but the all-you-can-drink service in the afternoon and evening was fantastic! There was a great variety, including drinks we don’t usually get to try, so we really enjoyed it. However, it was disappointing that beer wasn’t available during the evening all-you-can-drink service.

    I was happy that the welcome drink area had been expanded! During the dinner buffet it was crowded, but the dishes were properly replenished. However, the hand towels were small, and it was disappointing that there was no iced coffee!

    Mercure offers delicious meals.

    I think Mercure offers delicious meals. Compared with the buffets at other Accommodation, the selection is more extensive. Refills are quick, and the service is good. With a reasonable Accommodation Fee, I look forward to the meals here more than the Onsen.

    It might be different if it weren’t during Golden Week.

    It had been a while since I stayed at a busy Hotel, so I felt some inconvenience due to crowding in places. However, the renovated buffet and the lounge offerings were very good. Overall it was good, except that when I called with an inquiry, I felt the front desk staff were not very helpful, perhaps because they were busy.

    Lounge

    I have stayed at Mercure Hotels in various locations, and this one was the largest by far. I was surprised they even had numbered tickets for the check-in queue. The Room was almost too large for two people, and we were able to relax comfortably. I went to the floor looking forward to the complimentary lounge beer from 21:00 (there was draft beer in Kashihara), but it was a bit disappointing that it was mainly whisky and liqueurs instead. Also, although it can’t be helped during Golden Week, breakfast was very crowded, with bottlenecks at the popular stations, and I felt nervous trying to pass through while carrying my tray. Personally, I will continue to choose Mercure because their breakfast is delicious and offers a wide variety of options.
