Family Trip
Given the age of the building, that can’t really be helped. However, I was quite bothered by a sewage smell coming from the Room’s unit bath. The refrigerator is old, so it might be better to replace it. At check-in, one staff member was handing out numbered tickets, but once they went on break, the order quickly became mixed up. They should introduce a ticketing machine. The receptionist seems to sometimes skip parts of the explanation, perhaps because she has to repeat the same information for each guest. The bed is comfortable and the view is nice, but there are many spiders around the window area. Considering the Facility and amenities, it’s about what you’d expect for the price.

It was very good.
It was a wonderful space, and the Onsen was great—I was very satisfied. From now on, I’d like to visit other Mercure hotels.

Waraundi was great!
Although it was advertised as all-inclusive, I honestly didn’t expect much. However, I was blown away by the dinner buffet, the wide variety of all-you-can-drink options, and how comfortable Warau Nji felt after the meal. Even with lots of strangers around, there was a somehow reassuring atmosphere where you could just relax and lounge—what is that? And here as well, there were unlimited drinks with snacks and plenty of manga to read, so we truly enjoyed the all-inclusive experience without a single complaint. Thank you very much.

A married couple living in Saitama
My spouse and I love baths, and lately we’ve been enjoying staying at Mercure. We stayed in June and had such a great experience that this is our second stay. It’s clean, relaxing, and comfortable, so we come mainly to stay and unwind rather than for sightseeing. We’ll be back again—thank you in advance.

Good value for money.
I booked a Multiple Night Stay for three nights because the one-night stay with breakfast and dinner was inexpensive. It was my first time staying with this Hotel chain, and it’s very clear where they spend money and where they cut back. They invest in the quality of the meals—at this price point you wouldn’t normally expect such a full offering, and it was great that even alcohol was free. On the other hand, the cost-cutting is noticeable too. What surprised me most was that unless you request housekeeping, towels and other items are not replaced either. At most Hotels, fresh towels are left on your doorknob, but here you have to reuse the previous night’s towels. If you’re staying multiple nights, be sure to request housekeeping.

What is the Accor/Mercure brand? What is a resort?
I will never use this Hotel again. I assume that staff from the former Royal H Nagano era are still working here (believing the old ways are fine), but I strongly feel improvements are needed to enhance guests’ resort experience in a way that befits the brand. 1. Check-in: There is no member lane. There are too few counters, causing congestion. Since the front desk is the face of a Hotel, staffing should be increased. The information sheet handed out is also insufficient. 2. Elevators: Possibly due to outdated controls, they run slowly and require long waits. The number of elevators also feels insufficient. Guests are told to use staff/service elevators or the emergency stairs, but it makes no sense to force “resort” guests to rely on unpleasant emergency measures. The equipment should be upgraded. 3. Room accommodations: No renewal has been done. Stains on chairs and carpets have not been removed. The TV service is especially poor (an early AQUOS model around 20 inches; even business hotels typically have 30 inches or more). In many business hotels, turning on the TV shows a welcome channel with in-house information, but there is nothing like that here—so you can’t check dining or large bath crowding levels either. 4. Lack of in-house information: There are no terms/conditions or guidebook in the Room desk drawer. You can’t tell where the laundry is or what services are available. 5. 3F lounge: There were many families with children and it was extremely noisy, so it was impossible to relax—it felt like just a “post-bath drink area.” The interior (a former banquet hall) has two seating styles: floor seating and table seating; when people lie down on the floor area, they can see other seats’ legs from their line of sight—partitions are needed. It’s also unclear whether yukata are allowed (many people were in everyday clothes). 6. Dining: (1) Both dinner and breakfast reuse many ingredients, so there was no real dining experience. (2) Crowding is severe. It seems time-slot capacity-controlled, but considering guest volume as well as venue space, seat layout, and aisle design need review; tray carts for seniors are good, but people cross paths in narrow aisles. (3) Time limits of 90 minutes for dinner and 60 minutes for breakfast—even with free drinks you cannot relax due to congestion; despite being at a resort you’re urged to leave based on time limits—very disappointing. (4) Requests for guests to return trays/dishes themselves and placement of return carts: At a resort this should be handled as service; also more carts should be placed in easy-to-find locations (they were full and couldn’t accept more). More staffing seems necessary. 7. Large public bath: Outdated facilities—not automatic-return faucets and water pressure is low; there’s no bubble feature so it doesn’t feel like a resort bath at all. Towel refills should be provided at the bath so guests don’t need to bring used towels back to their Rooms. Overall: Far from what you would expect from this brand.”

Onsen
It was great that the open-air bath was a natural Onsen. The temperature was a little on the mild side, so I could soak for a long time, felt refreshed, and was very satisfied. With this, no matter where I stayed in Ise, Lake Hamana, or Nagano, I was satisfied. Perhaps it’s your unique thoughtfulness? Even though I arrived early, you didn’t show any displeasure and kindly checked me in comfortably. Thank you very much. At another Hotel, they said “We accept check-ins from 3:00 p.m.” with an annoyed look, which was quite unpleasant. I would like to be a repeat guest at Mercure again. I look forward to staying with you next time.

A spacious Room for a relaxing stay
Given the size of the Hotel, I expected congestion at the front desk and in the baths, but check-in was smooth. We enjoyed a spacious Room with a great view, drink services at “Waraunge,” a cold and delicious water dispenser on the floor, complimentary drinks after bathing, and even the ability to check how crowded the baths were—overall it felt like a great value and we were able to relax comfortably. However, due to the dim lighting and the very small stylish lettering on signs, I couldn’t read them without glasses. Despite many international guests, signage seemed mainly in Japanese; I encountered confused guests several times and ended up explaining in my limited English. A bit more effort to make signage clearer would further improve hospitality.

Great value all-inclusive
I’m rating based on absolute quality, so I can’t give full marks for every individual category, but I’d like to give a perfect overall score in terms of satisfaction. Considering the value for money, the all-inclusive offering also deserves high praise. It’s true there are always places that are tastier, more luxurious, cleaner, or offer more activities if you keep looking upward—but at this price range, I’m extremely satisfied.

Despite the casual atmosphere, I could feel thoughtful attention to detail in every direction.
For sightseeing in Nagano, we chose this Hotel because it has convenient transportation access, and because we have many food allergies, a buffet-style meal is extremely helpful. What caught my eye most when making the Reservation was that the free drinks included sparkling wine! Some places don’t offer sparkling wine with free drinks, or charge extra for it, so even though I don’t drink a lot, I was looking forward to the wide variety of beverages. When we went to the dining venue, there were dishes from every genre—it was impressive how many items they offered. Allergy labels were clearly provided as well. I personally had only a few things I could eat, but my family enjoyed it thoroughly. For me too, it was a happy mealtime with sparkling wine! They also provided bottled drinks like cola. Kids these days rarely have the chance to use a bottle opener as they grow up (sorry if that’s just our family), so opening a bottle cap with an opener felt really new and exciting—and it seemed to taste much better than usual (laughs). There was also an excellent selection of alcoholic beverages besides sparkling wine. After arriving and before dinner, we heard that free drinks were available in the lobby as well, so we went there too. To our surprise, it was a spacious Japanese-style room where guests relaxed—some half-lying down reading books—while small children played freely. It was lively and warm in the best way. It wasn’t the kind of lobby I had imagined, but it turned out to be a wonderful new experience. There wasn’t any special greeting upon arrival in the lobby area, but the front desk staff welcomed us warmly with smiles. By keeping service simple rather than excessive, they can offer reasonable prices along with varied meals and drinks for all ages—and create a space where families with children can relax without hesitation. It felt like this is a Hotel that values letting each guest enjoy their stay in their own way.

A wonderful Mercure Hotel Matsushiro with access to the lounge and market as well
I chose Mercure Hotel Matsushiro for my first stay in Nagano Prefecture. I decided after checking the Reviews, and it turned out to be an even better Hotel than the ratings suggested. The front desk staff were very professional and helpful, which made a big difference. We were able to enjoy complimentary services not only in the lounge but also in front of the first-floor reception area. The spacious lounge on the third floor was often full, so it would be great if guests could take drinks and snacks back to their Room when no seats are available. Dinner and breakfast time slots could be selected on a tablet, so we could see how busy it was in advance and everything went very smoothly. A marché event was also held in the Hotel lobby, and we enjoyed taking photos with “6 Monkey” as well as buying plenty of local oyaki dumplings and fresh farm produce. There were also children’s events at the tennis courts, which our child really enjoyed. We had a relaxing, unhurried, and comfortable stay at Mercure Hotel Matsushiro, and we would love to stay again. Thank you.

It was a very nice Hotel with an upscale feel.
More than 20 years ago, I stayed at Daiwa Royal Hotel Yatsugatake on a family trip and have fond memories. It has since become Mercure Hotel Yatsugatake, and I wanted to make a Reservation there for our family trip this summer, but it was fully booked. So this summer we stayed at Mercure Hotel Matsushiro instead. Thanks to the IKYU.com Diamond member benefits, we were able to enjoy early check-in and late check-out, allowing us to stay for an extended time. Access to the Matsushiro Onsen bath area is controlled by the Room key card system, and since it is for guests only, we felt safe and comfortable. The main public bath is spacious; the open-air bath is a bit small, but the view was great. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, and everything tasted excellent. The chandelier in the buffet venue was gorgeous, and the space was large enough that we could dine comfortably at a relaxed pace. Since the Plan for rooms on the top (13th) floor was sold out, we stayed in two separate Rooms. Thank you to all staff members for accommodating our requests in advance. One part of our family reported that guests on the 13th floor directly above were running around loudly, and it continued until late at night. Around 2:00 a.m., there was a widespread earthquake with its epicenter in Ibaraki Prefecture; perhaps because the building was constructed by Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd., our Room on the 12th floor barely shook at all. This is a Hotel where you can feel secure even while traveling away from home. There is also a chapel on site as well as a dog run, and the parking lot is spacious, so we were able to take an evening walk as a family during cooler hours. It is an upscale Hotel that deserves far higher ratings than its current Reviews suggest. One thing that stood out: this was my first time staying at a Hotel where—even when making eye contact with several employees inside or around the property—I felt there were no greetings or bows. Since this was also my first stay in Nagano Prefecture, perhaps that influenced how I perceived it. We plan to return again later for another stay; thank you in advance from our whole family.

A comfortable Accommodation, unlike any other.
This was my second stay for Sugadaira Kogen rugby, and at this all-inclusive Hotel, anyone can use the lounge, with unlimited alcoholic and soft drinks. Breakfast also offered such a wide selection (food, beverages, desserts) that it was hard to choose, and considering the price, it felt like an absolute bargain. It is also located in front of the Nagano interchange, where you can see the mountains and the trucks at work supporting Japan’s logistics. It left me feeling energized. I will stay again next year.

The elevators were extremely crowded in the evening. I wanted to go up from the third floor, where the Onsen is, to my Room, but both the elevator coming up from below and the one coming down from above were full, so I couldn’t get on for quite a while. There were stairs as well, but I couldn’t manage all the way up to the 9th floor… I waited for over 10 minutes.

We used the Dog-Friendly Plan. Although there were no dedicated dog Facilities in the property, a crate was provided, and our dog was able to stay comfortably. We thoroughly enjoyed the all-inclusive offerings in the lounge and restaurant. Also, we accidentally left something behind in the Room, and we truly appreciate your kind and attentive assistance.

It was my first stay, but there are too few elevators, so the wait time is long. Dinner also felt underwhelming for the price. Honestly, it feels like it should cost about half as much.

I stayed here while returning home for the Obon holidays.
I stay here every year. Since it was during the Obon holiday, the hotel was quite busy. Because it was the Obon period, the lounge hours and large public bath hours were extended by one hour, so I could relax and enjoy them. I also liked that there were vending machines at the lounge entrance with alcohol, ice cream, snacks, and cup noodles. There was a wide variety of breakfast options, and everything was very delicious. I will definitely stay again.

Used for a last-minute stay
I stayed here on short notice due to bad weather. The Onsen was crowded because there were too few washing stations for the number of Rooms, and the bath itself was small. There are only three elevators, so the area in front of them became congested with guests returning from the Onsen. Even if you line up properly, some guests cut in and get on first, which felt unfair. I think the Hotel should take some measures to address this.

It was absolutely terrible.
I have stayed at this Hotel for many years, dating back to when it was still Matsushiro Royal, and I have used it countless times. However, this stay was truly the worst. The reasons are listed below in the hope they will be helpful to future guests, and I strongly urge the Hotel to make improvements going forward. (A 1-star rating is effectively a 0.) 1. Check-in: I checked in in the evening, but it took over 30 minutes before my check-in was completed. There are far too few front desk staff for the number of guests. During peak periods, staffing should be increased to about double. 2. Check-out: My Room was on the 10th floor, but it took more than 40 minutes just to get into an elevator. In fact, only after taking a staff elevator up to the top floor could I finally board—still after waiting 40 minutes. Naturally, people on floors below mine could not get on after I did and had to let it go by. If I had waited on my own floor, I am sure I would not have been able to board even after more than an hour. Even if you open the staff elevator for guests, there is no point unless it also serves the lobby floor. 3. Bathroom shower: The water temperature does not stay consistent—it repeatedly turns suddenly cold and then scalding hot. While washing my hair it suddenly became boiling hot, and as a result I suffered burns over a wide area. The equipment should be replaced. 4. In-room refrigerator: It powers on but does not cool at all. It appears to be an extremely old model based on its manufacturing year; it is long overdue for replacement with a new unit. Also, having no tray inside makes it very inconvenient. 5. In-room Wi-Fi: It disconnects frequently; there was never a period when it stayed connected continuously. 6. Parking lot: This is not limited to this visit—the spaces are far too narrow side-to-side between cars. Especially this time as it was full almost constantly with cars next to mine; you cannot properly open your door or get in and out normally without risking hitting the neighboring car—are guests expected to do that? The Hotel should test this themselves at least once. The Hotel is located right next to an expressway exit and attracts many large tour buses as well as individual travelers. Having many Rooms and high capacity may sound positive, but if your operational capability and Facilities (elevators, hot-water system, Wi-Fi, parking space) cannot keep up, you should limit how many guests you accept instead of overbooking beyond what you can handle.\nDue to work I will likely continue using this Hotel in the future as well,\nand I sincerely hope these issues will be improved going forward.\n

It was wonderful. I had a family grave visit in Minami-Shinshu, so I made a Reservation at Grand Mercure and decided to go a bit farther up. The view was amazing, it was cool and comfortable, and the food was delicious. My wife says she wants to stay at Grand Mercure every time, so we’d love to visit again.

The perfect Hotel for families with children
I stayed at this Accommodation because I had errands to run with my child. There were plenty of toys and kid-friendly meals, and my child really enjoyed it. The adult meals were fine if you went early, but at times it was so crowded that the food wasn’t being replenished. Alcohol was available for free, so I didn’t have to order each time, which was convenient. My child also liked the kids’ meal corner. In the evening, the lounge was so crowded there was nowhere to sit. Even though it’s called a lounge, the selection of alcohol wasn’t very appealing, and I had concerns about cleanliness, so we ended up not using it. The staff were very friendly and pleasant.

The children were thrilled.
By booking early, we were able to stay at a great rate. Compared with our stay about a year ago, many things had changed this time, which was a pleasant surprise! The snack corner and the play area were a big hit with the kids. We added breakfast only, and there was a wide variety of items. It was especially fun to have ice cream and cotton candy. With three elevators for the size of the Hotel, it could be hard to get on during peak times for meals or the baths, and we sometimes waited about 10 minutes, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, it was great value and we had a wonderful time, so we would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

It was comfortable.
It was the most reasonably priced twin Room, but it was spacious with a great view, making it a very satisfying space. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes in a large dining venue.\nIt was disappointing that there were too few reception staff, so both check-in and check-out took longer than expected.

Amazing!!!!!
I love traveling and stay at various Hotels across different prefectures, and this was the best Hotel I’ve ever stayed at!! After check-in, snacks and drinks were all-you-can-eat and drink, manga was unlimited, and although I didn’t use it myself, there were plenty of spaces for kids to play—so you never get bored during your stay! The breakfast buffet had everything from Nagano specialties to Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes—there wasn’t enough time or stomach space to try it all (lol). From check-in to check-out, it was truly an amazing experience!! When I visit Nagano again, I will definitely make another Reservation!!!

We really enjoyed our Hotel stay!
We stayed here on the first day of our 3-night, 4-day trip to Nagano. We checked in after 3:00 p.m. and spent a relaxing time until dinner—enjoying the Onsen, reading in the lounge area, playing table tennis, and having a beer at a leisurely pace. It was an extremely hot day and we were tired from sightseeing, so being able to check in early and rest was really appreciated. Dinner offered an overwhelming variety of dishes, including Japanese-Western fusion as well as some ethnic options—more than we could finish. Everything was well seasoned, there were plenty of desserts, and the alcohol selection during the meal was extensive: beer, sparkling wine, wine, sake, shochu, and various liqueurs. There was also a buffet corner for small children with a cotton candy machine, which gave our kids a fun experience. It seems this used to be a Japanese-style Hotel before it was renovated into Mercure. The front desk floor and Onsen area had an international feel, while the lounge area and guest rooms still retained some of the old charm—which may be part of why it’s available at such reasonable rates. Since we travel with children, our key points when choosing a Hotel are things like a spacious Onsen, Japanese-style rooms (tatami), play areas for kids to enjoy themselves, and plenty of dining options—and this place had it all. Our whole family was very satisfied with our stay. Nearby are Matsushiro Castle Ruins (Matsushiro-joshi), Sanada Residence (Sanada-tei), Sanada Treasure Museum (Sanada Homotsukan), and Tsuruya supermarket—all within walking distance. There are likely more sights as well, but because of the heat we couldn’t do much sightseeing. Still, since we could enjoy ourselves at the Hotel anyway, it all worked out in the end. One small disappointment: our child wanted to wear a yukata as loungewear indoors but only samue were available—perhaps due to sizes being out of stock—so they were disappointed (they love history and wanted to get into the mood by wearing one). The samue fabric felt sturdy and reassuring in its own way; however it seemed too warm for such hot weather. Also, part of the mat flooring in the table tennis room was peeling up slightly and looked potentially dangerous; I hope this can be addressed. Those are our requests—overall it’s a great Hotel and we would like to stay again!

We stayed here for a family trip.
We stayed at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa for a family trip. At checkout, we had quite a bit of luggage and later realized after returning home that we had forgotten something in the car. Since we were traveling with our children and family, it took time to confirm, and no matter how much we searched, we couldn’t find it—so we contacted the front desk at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa. They kindly looked for it and found our lost item. Today, it arrived by delivery, and we are truly grateful. The front desk’s exceptional support became a wonderful memory of our trip.

The lounge was spacious, which was great! It was nice that we could enjoy drinks until 11:00 PM! The buffet had a fantastic variety—excellent! I’d love to see more chairs for outdoor cooling down by the sauna. I really liked that the amenities were Sekkisei; it’s rare to find places that provide body lotion, so I was happy. It would be perfect if you could also provide facial cleanser in the large public bath.

A dust-covered kettle spout
1) The kettle spout was covered in dust. 2) Although it is described as a spa, there were no towels provided in the large public bath. 3) There were no complimentary drinks available in the lounge. So do you have no intention of actually offering a spa & resort experience? This was disappointing, as it’s not something I usually encounter with Japanese Hotel groups. I don’t think I’ll use the Mercure group again.
