The meals were good, but the amenities were disappointing.
I’ve stayed at other Mercure properties and didn’t have high expectations for this Hotel either, but the meals pleasantly exceeded my expectations and I was satisfied. However, there were also many disappointing points. 1. The guest room slippers should be disposable. Only cloth slippers were provided, and I don’t feel confident they are properly disinfected each time. I was worried about getting athlete’s foot from slippers worn by someone else. 2. The water pressure at the washing area in the Onsen is far too weak. There is also no facial cleanser or shaving foam in the bath area. The disposable razors don’t come with a lubricating strip, and when I used one with body soap, I cut my face in several places.

We had a wonderful stay.
I had a wonderful stay here last winter, so this was my second visit, this time in summer. I didn’t know in advance, but by chance there was a gospel performance during my stay, and I enjoyed both the daytime and evening sets while having drinks. Not only could I relax in the Hotel, but I also got to spend an unexpectedly fun time! I hope there will be more events like this in the future!

Summer Vacation
We enjoyed our stay in a spacious Room. The Hotel is set in the forest and was very quiet. At check-in, there were four staff members at the front desk, but we still had to wait a little. Since some guests did not appear to be checking in, this might be improved with a small adjustment. The lounge was nice for taking a short break. It wasn’t especially relaxing, but it felt like an appropriate level of comfort with a pleasant atmosphere.

I was satisfied.
We stayed as a family. It was disappointing that the beer had run out in the lounge at night, but there was a great variety of dinner dishes and drinks. At breakfast, we loved being able to eat as much as we wanted—whole tomatoes, blue cheese, and more. The bath and sauna were very relaxing, we had fun playing table tennis, and the starry sky was beautiful. Our whole family was very satisfied. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

The dining area is too crowded.
Because it gets very crowded, meal times are limited to 60 minutes for both breakfast and dinner. We waited about 70 minutes just to be seated, and the buffet area felt tense. It was not an atmosphere where you could enjoy a relaxed, pleasant meal at all. Everyone seemed frustrated from the wait and stressed by the 60-minute limit—lining up irritably for food, hurriedly piling dishes onto their plates, and quickly eating. It’s clear that there aren’t enough restaurant tables for the number of guest rooms. Also, isn’t closing the breakfast venue at 9:30 too early? Aside from the crowding in the dining area, all of the staff were very kind, and we were satisfied with the spacious parking lot as well.

Dirty
The hallway carpet was dirty, and the Room rug was covered in stains. There was a bad smell. The washroom and toilet smelled even worse. I couldn’t use the phone to call the front desk. Even though the public bath is so large, it being open only until 11:00 PM is terrible.

Mercure Fans
This was my first trip to Tohoku, and I stayed at multiple Mercure hotels. After Zao, I stayed in Urabandai, so it felt more compact. Although there seemed to be a lot of unused space inside the building, the restaurant was small (maybe because Zao’s variety and service were exceptional), and there was a time limit for securing seats—I wondered if it was a measure to address staffing shortages. The Onsen was clean, and after bathing they offered local amazake, apple- and peach-leaf tea, and genmaicha. It was my first time trying those teas, and I really enjoyed them.\nI’ll plan my next trip with Mercure again.

Our three-generation group of 12 stayed here, and the all-inclusive Plan made the kids very happy. The meals were delicious. The only downside was that fitting five futons in the tatami Room felt cramped.

Regarding placing used towels on the hallway floor
The Hotel was well cleaned overall, but there was one thing that concerned me. During a Multiple Night Stay, it seems the Room is cleaned every three days, but I noticed that used towels such as bath towels were left directly on the hallway floor by the Room entrance. I think it would be better to provide something as simple as a plastic basket.

The whole family was very satisfied.
This was our first time staying here on a summer vacation trip to Fukushima. Thanks to the clear, concise explanations and easy-to-follow guidance inside the Facility, we were able to move around smoothly throughout our stay. The afternoon lounge offers light bites for adults and snacks for children, making it perfect for a short break. The Onsen lounge had peach leaf tea that seemed great for hydration, Aizu rice tea, and warm amazake as well. While the kids relaxed in the hammock, adults could truly unwind too. We were surprised by the wide selection of alcohol in the evening lounge. And every snack was delicious! Many of our favorites were also available at the shop on the first floor, which was another nice touch. Not only the front desk staff, but also those handling cleaning and restocking in the Onsen lounge were very kind and pleasant. We would love to stay here again when we travel to Fukushima.

I tried going there.
I stayed in a Japanese-style Room for value, mainly because the Diamond member benefits were appealing. I got bitten by mites repeatedly. There was trash and hair in various places in the Room. I planned to enter the Room at 2:00 p.m. with early check-in, but I couldn’t even start the check-in process until exactly 2:00 p.m. The front desk staff member who assisted me smelled of cigarettes (and the foreign female staff member next to him spoke too fast and gave a rushed explanation). However, hearing that the lounge would open at 2:30 p.m. (even though it’s officially from 3:00 p.m.) and that meals were not limited to 60 minutes improved my mood a bit. I hurried to the Room, got ready for the bath, and went back to the lounge—thankfully it did open right at 2:30 p.m. The bath was clean when I went right at 3:00 p.m., but after that, every time I visited, things like bath chairs, shower heads, shampoo, and conditioner were never returned to their original positions, which was disappointing. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious—my saving grace. Since it was a weekday, there was no time limit and I could enjoy them fully. The lounge also had plenty of seating space. I chose this place in Urabandai because I wanted to try it after it became Mercure (it’s an area I love), but I think I’m done with Mercure properties.

Excellent value for money.
This was the best value for money of any Hotel I’ve stayed at. It’s the perfect Accommodation for anyone who loves alcohol. Because it was so inexpensive, I went in with no expectations at all—but it was so good that I almost felt guilty about what I paid. As soon as we arrived, we headed straight to the lounge and enjoyed beer, sparkling wine, and more. Drinks were all-you-can-drink during dinner as well, and after the meal we went back to the lounge for unlimited drinks again. Even at breakfast we had beer and sparkling wine, and my friends who love drinking couldn’t believe a place like this exists. I wasn’t expecting much from the food either, but there were local Fukushima items as well as dishes from around the world—and everything was delicious. The lounge snacks changed depending on the time of day. There weren’t a huge number of options, but there was a good balance of sweet and savory. The baths were properly cleaned, and we could relax in them both morning and night. The water left our skin feeling silky-smooth, and the outdoor bath had beautiful greenery. I’m sure it would be wonderful during autumn foliage season too. In our Room, the futons were already laid out from the start, which was convenient. However, the tatami in our Room felt a bit old. When I peeked into other Rooms on our way out, they had green tatami mats—so perhaps they’re gradually updating them. Since we basically only returned to the Room to sleep anyway, it didn’t bother us much. One thing that did bother me in the Room was that there were no slippers for using the toilet. There were four women in our group so we kept it clean, but stepping into the toilet barefoot still felt uncomfortable. All of the staff were kind, and I often saw them checking in on guests who seemed to need help. There were also non-Japanese staff at reception; their Japanese was excellent and their smiles were lovely. Because it was a quiet weekday stay, nothing felt crowded—the baths, dining area, or lounge. That said, since there are many Rooms here (and likely many guests), I do worry about how busy it might get on weekends or during summer vacation. A couple of small points: I’d really like you to include shower caps among the amenities. Many women don’t want their hair getting wet when showering—so shower caps are essential. Please consider it. The meals were very tasty overall; however, dessert was disappointing. The hanging donuts looked cute but didn’t taste great. Since breakfast croissants and baguettes were excellent though، I’m sure desserts can be improved too! I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next—we even talked on our way home about which Mercure we should visit next.

The all-inclusive plan was excellent! Alcoholic drinks were unlimited until 11:00 PM, and there was a great selection of snacks. There was also a wide variety of food, and there were still many dishes I wanted to try—I felt like I had to come back again! Although there were some minor stains on the Room wallpaper and similar areas, it was clean overall.

Outstanding value for money
We stayed for just over JPY 16,000 for two people (including two meals and all-you-can-drink). The food was tasty, but it was disappointing that the hot dishes were only lukewarm. Could the soft-serve ice cream be made a bit richer? All-you-can-drink at this price... we were amazed!

60 minutes
Two summers ago, we stayed here for the first time, drawn by the all-inclusive plan and a limited-time sale. My elementary-school son loved this Hotel, so last summer we came all the way to Fukushima specifically to stay here again. This winter he wanted to try skiing, so we stayed here once more. At check-in, we were told dinner was limited to 60 minutes and breakfast to 45 minutes, and it was also posted at the restaurant entrance. When entering the restaurant, we were handed a slip showing our end time, and staff walked around with tablets as if searching for guests who had gone over time. It ruined what should have been a relaxing meal. I never expected to be rushed through dinner like that. Unless you extend dining hours or open the second-floor banquet hall as an additional dinner venue, I don’t think a 60-minute dinner limit is realistic. The lounge always feels like a battle for seats. How about creating another lounge area somewhere—perhaps in an elevator hall on one of the floors? Also, since the cups are small they run out quickly and guests have to keep going back for refills—resulting in long lines. There are only two vending machines for soft drinks. Since there is also a microwave available, it would be great if you could add alcoholic beverages and chilled light snacks as well. The automatic pancake machine at breakfast is great—I wanted to watch it longer—but breakfast is set at 45 minutes. I’ve written whatever came to mind, but I already have a Reservation for summer vacation as well, so I look forward to staying with you then.

It’s starting to feel a bit sloppy.
This is my fifth stay at a Mercure resort, and I’ve been trying different locations. What was good this time: 1. The restaurant was more compact than at other locations, making it easier to use. The Hotel itself may be smaller than others. 2. The lounge snacks (such as chocolate and pickles) were thoughtfully chosen. 3. The Onsen Facility was among the better ones. What wasn’t good this time: 1. At check-in, I was advised to have dinner early—starting from 16:30. I understand this was probably to avoid crowds, but some guests prefer later times, so pushing “early” felt unnecessary. In fact, we ate around 19:00 and it wasn’t particularly crowded. 2. At check-in I received an in-house guide, but the staff member handled the paper roughly and handed it to me creased and twisted. It didn’t feel pleasant, and what made it worse was that the person smelled strongly of cigarettes.

This was my second stay, following last year. The buffet had no set time slots but was limited to 60 minutes, which felt a bit rushed; however, I was satisfied again with the great value. The wash area in the large public bath was also cleaned frequently by staff, so it was pleasant to use.

A Truly Disappointing All-Inclusive Experience
The bath was crowded and closed early, so I couldn’t relax and enjoy it, which was disappointing. The lounge had no available seats, so I couldn’t use it at all, which was frustrating. The food quality was poor—I can’t honestly say it was tasty, even as a courtesy. They seem to misunderstand what “all-inclusive” means.

A blissful cup!!
I stayed at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa during Golden Week, and this time I chose Mercure Urabandai Resort & Spa. Nagano Matsushiro was extremely crowded during Golden Week, but this time it wasn’t as busy, and I was able to relax comfortably. Right after arriving at the Hotel, I enjoyed a beer as a welcome drink. Delicious!! The best moment! This is why I can’t stop coming back.

It seems like they’re aiming to appeal to everyone, but…
Overall, I think the content and pricing were reasonable. We stayed around May 25, during the Golden Week period. Since we arrived after 5:00 pm, we skipped the drink bar on arrival and went straight to the dinner venue. Because the dining area gets crowded, it was nice to be able to check congestion on a smartphone. There weren’t many premium ingredients; the selection was mostly standard items. For some reason, there was a wide variety of international dishes. There were also a few local items. Having time limits for both breakfast and dinner felt very rushed since we were traveling with three children, so we couldn’t relax. The beet and banana smoothie at breakfast was very delicious. We were too tired to go to the evening drink time. Regarding the baths (based on my husband’s experience), he said the men’s open-air bath area was so dark that he bumped his foot. The steps are also quite high, so extra caution is needed; it seems some people may have fallen as well. The hammock in the waiting area outside the baths was very popular with our kids, but I think it would be even better if there were more playground-style facilities. We chose a Japanese-style Room, where futons are laid out from the start. The in-room unit bath with toilet felt undeniably old. Our Room was extremely far from the elevator, but since it’s a wide Hotel layout, I suppose that can’t be helped. This may be due to guest manners, but luggage carts were left all over and we had to weave around them, which bothered me. Although there is signage on the carts asking guests to return them to the first floor, it’s difficult to take them all the way back to the entrance each time—so I think it would help to have a designated space near each elevator hall. Although they advertise an all-inclusive plan, it felt like it mainly amounted to limited-time unlimited drinks; we barely used it and didn’t feel much value from it.

Check-in took a long time. Also, we had to wait in line for a long time for meals, and there were time limits on dining, but none of this was explained at the time of Reservation. The facilities and guest rooms were not well cleaned; overall it felt very unhygienic and unpleasant. I made the Reservation because it was listed as pet-friendly, but it did not feel welcoming to pets at all.

An all-around highly satisfying Hotel
It was an affordable yet all-inclusive Hotel that we really enjoyed. The Onsen amenities included Sekkisei cleansing oil, toner, and emulsion, which made my daughters very happy. There was also body cream (brand unknown), which I appreciated for moisturizing after the bath. All the staff (including the cleaning team) were very pleasant. There were plenty of kid-friendly touches as well, such as photo spots and board games available to borrow. If we have the chance, we would definitely like to stay again. Thank you for your hospitality.

A Long Journey with My Wife
Surrounded by nature in a quiet setting, the Room was spacious and very comfortable. Upon arrival, we enjoyed plenty of beer and wine in the lounge, and during meals we also appreciated the colorful, wide variety of dishes along with alcoholic beverages and other drinks. On the way to the large public bath, we were welcomed by a big red Akabeko. The Facility is a bit dated, but the Accommodation Fee is very attractive, making this an excellent value stay. It’s one Hotel I’d like to stay at again.

The all-inclusive plan is very convenient.
Both breakfast and dinner offered an extensive buffet selection. There was also a wide variety of alcoholic drinks, and the all-you-can-drink option felt like great value. The lounge from 9:00 PM also had free drinks and some light snacks, so we ended up staying longer than planned. Overall, we were very satisfied with the food and beverages. However, the sauna in the large public bath was small and crowded, so we gave up on using it. It would be better if it were a bit larger.

In fact, the bath and the meals are very good.
In the bath, some Chinese guests got into the tub without washing first and talked loudly the whole time. Even though both the water and the bath were clean, I couldn’t stay in for even 10 minutes—it was just too disappointing. The restaurant was the same. Some Chinese guests took the tongs for picking up ramen and kept them to themselves with their group, so no one else could use them. I gave up on eating. Could you please do something to improve manners a bit? At this rate, Japanese guests will definitely not want to come.
