A Kyoto oasis to clear your mind and body

Stayed for one night over a hot weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by a lovely aroma at check-in, making us feel as if we had left Kyoto entirely. The hotel's commitment to sustainability and minimizing waste made me reflect on my own lifestyle. Despite this eco-conscious approach, every detail was thoughtfully designed to ensure guests' comfort and enjoyment. The meals were especially delightful, with fresh vegetables, bread, and fruits that felt nourishing from the inside out. Even the complimentary snacks in the room had a gentle flavor that heightened our senses. We also enjoyed two free daily activities offered by the hotel and participated in making body scrubs. Using them later at the bathing facility left our skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Eating wholesome food and experiencing their zero-waste philosophy allowed us to clear both mind and body in just one night. This is more than just a place to stay while sightseeing—it's an experience not to be missed! At least try their vegetables; they are deliciously simple with just salt!

An urban resort offering a premium stay experience

A luxurious hotel in Kyoto with a wellness concept, offering a serene atmosphere distinct from large, opulent hotels. The interior materials, scents, and lighting create a unique ambiance. The staff provided attentive and kind service. The facility includes an exceptional pool with an extraordinary atmosphere, a well-equipped gym, and relaxing bathing facilities that we thoroughly enjoyed using. We dined at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. For dinner, we invited relatives living in Kyoto to join us for the course meal. The natural-themed menu was reasonably priced for such a high-end hotel, with perfect seasoning and portions—deliciously satisfying for everyone involved. Breakfast might be one of this accommodation's highlights—it’s entirely different from typical hotel buffets. In the natural restaurant setting, guests can enjoy refined local Japanese and Western dishes through both à la carte options and buffet selections featuring various juices and smoothies—all of which were delightful. On the second day, we used our accommodation credit to experience the spa as a couple. The tranquil environment allowed us to relax fully; it was an incredibly satisfying experience for both of us. This was a long-awaited stay at this accommodation that exceeded expectations—a truly fulfilling experience! We look forward to staying here again in the future!

Safe, Secure, Restful Sleep, and Comfort! Quiet Luxury at the Hotel

The most important aspects of an accommodation are "safety, security, and comfort." For someone like me who believes that "appearance or surprises" are secondary, this hotel stands as the pinnacle of accommodations in Japan today. Have you ever been frustrated by overly complicated lighting switches in a stylishly designed hotel room? Have you ever been angry at slippery bathroom floors that seem to prioritize design over safety? Have you ever felt unwell after a meal at a beautifully designed hotel restaurant? Have you ever hurt yourself on sharp-edged furniture in the name of modern design? Have you ever struggled with uncomfortable bedding that disrupts your sleep and forces you to rely on sleeping pills or pain relief patches? Or have you found yourself heading out late at night to a nearby convenience store because the soft drink bar lacked sparkling water? Many so-called luxury hotels in Japan seem to prioritize "owner satisfaction" over guest safety. However, this hotel is an exceptional creation by owners, operators, and hoteliers who truly understand what should be prioritized in hospitality. This accommodation places utmost importance on guests' "safety," "health," "comfort," and even their ability to enjoy restful sleep. While it may not flaunt obvious luxury at first glance, closer inspection reveals thoughtful investments into every detail—making it quietly luxurious yet profoundly impressive.

    Resonates with the concept!

We stayed during our summer vacation in Kyoto. We resonated with the Hotel's concept and hospitality. My wife and I have become fans. It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

It has become a destination Hotel you will want to visit.

We stayed as a family with an infant. We knew there was a kids' room, but it exceeded our expectations, and the English support was excellent, making our child very happy. We ordered breakfast, afternoon tea, and room service, all of which were of high quality in both Japanese and Western styles. The rice flour bread was particularly exceptional. The staff were all wonderful and conveyed a genuine sense of hospitality. They warmly interacted with our child and showed great care when we faced health issues or needed special assistance. For the next stay, we are considering upgrading the room for an even better experience. It was truly a memorable stay. Thank you very much!

    A Relaxing Hotel

This was my second stay at the accommodation. This time, I focused on a spa program during my hotel stay and was extremely satisfied. The program, based on wellness screening, provided healing for both body and mind. The Watsu/Aquatic Body Program I had always wanted to try involved stretching the body while floating in warm water in a circular pool, offering an indescribable sense of weightlessness that could become addictive. The personalized massage was not just a regular body massage but included techniques to relieve tension in the head and brain, which amazed me with its effectiveness. The breakfast menu unique to this accommodation was excellent again this year, as were the guest rooms. Additionally, the bar I visited at night had a sophisticated hidden retreat-like atmosphere distinct from other spaces and is highly recommended.

Consistently exceptional. Thoughtful hospitality embracing the seasons, a comfortable space, diverse wellness programs, and plenty of free activities. The Room is stocked with an abundance of healthy handmade welcome sweets and bottled water, including chilled sparkling options. A basic skincare set is available upon request. Everywhere is clean and well-maintained. Breakfast features a semi-buffet with a wide variety of high-quality options, including delicious vegetables and gluten-free bread.

Attention to Detail in Design Work

The overall design work inspired by the "Choju-Giga" motif is of a quality that impresses both Western and Japanese guests. The finishing and features in the guest rooms are impeccable. The commitment to sustainability is subtle yet pleasant. All staff members are refined and exceptional.

It was a wonderful Hotel stay.

I was satisfied with the Room, breakfast, and service in every respect. We had dinner at the sushi restaurant in the Hotel, and it was excellent. We also enjoyed the bar and stopped by both before and after our meal. I visit Kyoto every year, and this is another Accommodation I would like to return to. Many of the Hotel staff were from overseas, so there were times when Japanese did not come through clearly. Thank you very much.

It was an unforgettable and wonderful stay.

Check-in included a unique incense experience, the child enjoyed a workshop, and my wife participated in an activity, making for a short but memorable stay. We had dinner, breakfast, and afternoon tea at Sekki. Each dish beautifully reflected the seasonal concept, was visually delightful, and absolutely delicious. While strolling through the garden, a staff member kindly shared insights about the local history. The attentiveness of the staff was evident from check-in to check-out. Thank you very much. This is an exceptional hotel that makes us want to return in another season!

It was not the service of a luxury Hotel.

Points of concern regarding the service at this price range: - Dinner was reserved at the restaurant, but it was not acknowledged. When informed, the time was communicated incorrectly. - The spa explanation for us was to enter naked as usual, but foreign guests entered wearing swimsuits and gowns. Staff did not address this. - The dinner wine charge was incorrect and would have been about 10,000 yen higher if we hadn't pointed it out. - Around 5 PM, housekeeping came to clean the room and tried to enter unexpectedly, which surprised us. We would have preferred cleaning during our dinner reservation time. Additionally, the rooftop bar closes at 7 PM and the spa at 8 PM—these timings feel somewhat inconvenient. Overall, we expected more hospitality for a luxury hotel stay.

    The concept is excellent.

The concept of a nature-inspired luxury Hotel, different from others, was excellent. The organic and gluten-free delicious dinner and breakfast, as well as the incredibly comfortable bed, were outstanding. Instead of an ordinary extravagant luxury Hotel, it beautifully expressed Japanese traditional culture that foreigners would love. The service by the hoteliers was also great. I would love to stay again if there is another special time sale offer.

A unique and enjoyable Hotel designed for those who want to make their stay the main purpose.

    - Located within walking distance of attractions such as the National Museum, Sanjusangendo, and Chishakuin Temple, this hotel is not only a great base for sightseeing but also offers an enjoyable stay in itself. - From the incense offered at check-in to the open and greenery-filled lobby design, Japanese-inspired decor, and ambient BGM, every detail stimulated a sense of excitement and an extraordinary experience. - The property features a farm and sustainability workshops. While strolling around, I had the pleasure of receiving a detailed explanation from a female staff member about Six Senses' unique initiatives—it was delightful. - For breakfast at SEKKI, there was an abundance of locally sourced vegetables with plenty of dishes to enjoy. The half-buffet style allowed us to savor freshly prepared dishes upon request—a wonderful touch. - The bar Nine Tails had a great atmosphere where I could relax quietly at my own pace. - In the room, the bed was particularly outstanding—something truly rare to come across—and provided such restful sleep that it left me deeply impressed. Even the pajamas were excellent! - Thanks to IKYU points significantly reducing costs and receiving 20,000 yen worth of hotel credit (which could be used for bar charges or Champagne from the room's minibar), it made my stay even more enjoyable—I hope this continues! - Next time I visit again, I’d love to participate in spa or wellness programs as well as enjoy dinner during a Multiple Night Stay. - The staff’s hospitality was exceptional—they were kind and left such a positive impression!

Experience the serene side of Kyoto to the fullest!

Located along Higashioji Street, the accommodation offers excellent accessibility (I traveled by private car), and upon arrival, I was filled with excitement to start my stay in Kyoto. The experience lived up to my expectations, but what surprised me the most was the "serenity." Although it was nearing the start of the spring tourist season and there were many guests, ample space was provided for everyone. Inside the facility (including the restaurant and spa), I could relax at ease. It truly was a rejuvenating two-day stay. Thank you very much!

    Enjoyed an upgraded Hotel stay.

It was a wonderful Hotel stay that satisfied everything. As a sauna enthusiast, I was delighted by both the dry and steam saunas. The breakfast was beyond my expectations, and I found myself unsure of what to choose. However, everything was delicious, and I wanted to try it all again. It was truly satisfying.

    Everything is of hig...

Everything is of high quality, yet very warm. Filled with respect for nature, it feels comfortable. The wellness program is as authentic as those overseas and absolutely excellent. During turndown service, a stylish hot water bottle with a unique shape was placed inside the futon, warming not just the body but also the heart. The original plush toy "Kyuu-chan" in the Room, made from kimono fabric and designed as a nine-tailed fox, initially didn’t seem very cute to me. However, I was impressed by the initiative where taking it home involves an 8,000 yen donation to a fund. Now displayed at home, it has become a charming presence, like a guardian or talisman, reminiscent of an Inari deity. The breakfast was also wonderful, and I made a Reservation again because I wanted to experience the wellness program once more.

    Natural Luxury Resort

I had been looking forward to staying at the Six Senses, which made its debut in Japan, ever since I heard it was opening in Kyoto. I planned my visit for the off-season in January and communicated via email before my stay. The responses were prompt and courteous, leaving a very good impression. I had reserved a parking space via email, so upon arrival, I was greeted by name. I was guided to the lobby for check-in procedures and then escorted to my room by the staff. The room was new and clean. The interior, including furniture and amenities, reflected the Six Senses brand in every detail. The bathroom and washroom were very spacious, equipped with high-quality fixtures and fittings, creating a modern luxury space. (As expected from an international brand) I had dinner and breakfast at Restaurant Sekki. For dinner, I chose a five-course plant-based menu, and each dish was substantial, providing a satisfying experience. Dinner started a bit early at 18:00, and it felt a bit lonely as it was almost private until around 20:00. (I heard that many international guests prefer later dinners, around 20:00 or later.) The service staff were very friendly in a good way, making the dining experience enjoyable. I planned to visit the pool and public bath after dinner, but they were closed by 20:00. It would be nice if they stayed open a bit later. Upon returning to my room after dinner, I found that turndown service had been performed. A hot water bottle was prepared on the bed, which was a first for me and very touching. Breakfast was a la carte (with unlimited orders) and buffet style, featuring a healthy menu that reflected their focus on food. Personally, the menu selection was my favorite so far. The courtyard view from the restaurant was beautifully maintained, and spending time on the terrace from spring to autumn seems appealing. There were a few concerns during my stay, but overall, it was a very satisfying experience. I am looking forward to the upcoming openings in Hakone and Niseko. (Six Senses is said to truly shine in nature-rich areas)

A wonderful property that prioritizes relaxation, comfort, and friendliness from the guest's perspective.

    - Unlimited freshly made sparkling water from the Hotel (also non-carbonated clean water available). - Healthy treats, including welcome snacks in the Room! - The sleep-inducing pajamas are amazing. - Slept through the night without waking up once, thanks to the bed with the same structure as Claridge's. - Not ostentatious, but they invest in areas where you wouldn't expect, providing a great environment. (For example, even the cords of electrical appliances in the Room are wrapped with something like straw or rope.) - Switches are easy to use and understand. Overall, it was a Hotel where you can't help but think, "If I spend a week here and eat the food, my health will definitely improve."

    For those seeking a ...

For those seeking a sense of luxury, this might not be the perfect fit. The service is extremely friendly, allowing guests to relax without feeling overly formal. However, as mentioned earlier, it might feel somewhat casual. The meals and other offerings are sustainably and uniquely crafted in line with the brand concept, but the strong organic feel of the ingredients might not suit everyone's taste. That said, for those who don't mind, this hotel offers a pleasant and wonderful stay. It provides a unique experience in many ways. Of course, there were some minor issues during this stay. The welcome message from the hotel in the room had the guest's name wrong. While I could have mentioned the mistake directly, I chose to note it on the message card before turndown service, but there was no particular response. As a service industry, getting a guest's name wrong is something that should not happen. However, compared to a newly opened hotel in Higashiyama, Kyoto, where a significant personal occasion was marred with the worst memories and no follow-up or compensation was offered, and where they set prices at half after our expensive stay just to attract more guests, this is much more forgivable. I will never return to a hotel that thinks increasing guest numbers is as simple as offering discounts. Returning to the topic, compared to such hotels, Six Senses is commendable for responding to reviews and leaving messages. During my stay, the doorman was always present, greeting guests by name when they returned. While this might be considered standard, not all hotels, like the aforementioned one, manage to do this. At meal times, the staff confidently say, "Please let us know if you have any requests! We'll do anything!" The front lobby staff are always attentive to guests, offering personalized greetings. It may seem standard, but it's not something every hotel can do. I am much more satisfied staying at a hotel where the staff work hard and positively, even with the same high costs, than at a hotel that cannot consider the feelings of its guests. I hope they continue to do their best in the future.

    I was able to relax.

True to the concept of Six Senses, it is a well-managed Hotel. The staff are all very attentive. The meals are delicious, using organic vegetables and locally sourced ingredients, which I felt very pleased about. Everything is delicious, making it an ideal Hotel for vegans and vegetarians. I deducted a star because there was no valet service for parking and the view from the Room was not great. I will visit again.
