“Oideyasu” feels right at home in this Hotel, where time flows with the timeless charm of Kyoto.

It’s a bit far on foot, but only a 5-minute taxi ride from Kyoto Station. Just after passing Sanjusangendo, you’ll see the Hotel entrance and its impressive gate. While checking in, we enjoyed an incense experience: the welcome ritual “Zuko,” where you warm powdered incense in your palms and savor the fragrance. Our Room was a Deluxe Garden King (double). The greenery of the inner garden seen from the balcony chair made us forget the summer heat. At a spacious 42 m², it felt perfect for a comfortable Hotel stay. Because we had mentioned in advance that this was a birthday stay, there was a huge towel birthday cake on the bed made from towels of various sizes, and edible birthday sweets plus welcome sweets on the table with a heartwarming message card. We truly appreciated their thoughtfulness. The refrigerator had complimentary soft drinks, and above the minibar were sweet potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, even popcorn—far more than we could possibly drink or finish (in the best way). The powder room had two sinks, making it easy for two people to get ready comfortably. And having not only a shower but also a bathtub is especially nice for Japanese guests. After dinner we headed to the basement bar. Passing through a corridor adorned with Choju-giga-inspired objects, we finally arrived at “Nine Tails.” True to an American IHG-affiliated Hotel, American oldies played as bar BGM at quite a loud volume. Most guests enjoying drinks were Western visitors; even if they spoke loudly, it didn’t seem like neighboring tables could hear them. Another delightful surprise: an international bar team delivered a birthday cocktail to our table. Happy! Breakfast was served as a half-buffet at the seasonal dining venue “Sekki.” You choose one main dish and two sides; everything else can be taken freely from the buffet corner. For my main I chose chicken soup with poached egg; for sides: sausage, Japanese rolled omelet (dashimaki tamago), and steamed seasonal vegetables. The focaccia and miso bread are great with black bean and white bean hummus. I was thrilled by the generous pile of kale at the salad bar. The cheeses—mozzarella and chèvre—were also excellent. Up until checkout, we felt deeply touched by how attentive all of the youthful staff were. Even as Japanese guests ourselves, we found it incredibly comfortable—truly worthy of Six Senses. Please continue to be an aspirational Hotel for years to come.

This was our second stay, and we were completely satisfied again. All the staff were very pleasant, and the kids’ club teachers in particular were wonderful—our daughter was thrilled. The spa and the Room were excellent. The only thing was the food: it felt a bit too wellness-focused for our family’s taste, but we understand this is the Hotel’s policy. We look forward to visiting again.

From check-in to departure, it was a truly relaxing stay. Not only could I get away from the usual hustle and bustle, but I also felt deeply at ease in a space surrounded by nature that was different from what I’m used to. The Hotel credit was included, so I was able to enjoy drinks at the bar as well. It was a wonderful time with excellent service and great drinks. I would love to stay again.

An exceptional stay filled with genuine hospitality that nourishes both body and soul

Filled with Kyoto’s signature tranquility and harmony with nature, the Hotel offers a soothing comfort that helps you unwind wherever you are. Stylish yet exceptionally comfortable, I was also impressed by the guest rooms, where the Hotel’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout. Breakfast at the restaurant was based on safe, reliable Japanese ingredients, and most items were clearly labeled as house-made—something I truly appreciated as someone who avoids additives. At lunch and dinner as well, each dish brought out the natural flavors of fresh ingredients, and I could feel the chefs’ genuine care and sincerity toward guests in every plate. The spa was also outstanding—not just relaxing, but a wonderful experience that encouraged me to reflect on my physical and mental well-being. Above all, the staff’s warm hospitality in their natural manner stayed with me. Without being overly formal yet always attentive to details, they made my stay incredibly comfortable. Kyoto has many luxury hotels, but few deserve the word “healing” as much as this one. It was a truly joyful stay that left me eager to return in another season.

A Hotel full of charm that will make you want to return again and again

I stayed here again on my return visit to Kyoto. The interior has a calm yet refined atmosphere, and I felt it beautifully balances Kyoto’s character with a modern sensibility. Everywhere was comfortable, and I truly enjoyed the stay itself. The Room was also very comfortable, and the attention to detail in the space design was impressive. The staff were kind and welcoming as well, making this stay just as pleasant as before. Breakfast was excellent, allowing me to enjoy a relaxed and luxurious morning. In the evening, I also visited the bar and was able to unwind in a serene setting—another wonderful memory from this trip. Although this was a repeat visit, I’m grateful for the consistently comfortable experience. Kyoto has many appealing places to stay, but this is one of the Hotels that makes me want to return again. I would love to stay here again on my next trip to Kyoto. Thank you very much.

    It is a wonderful Hotel.

This was our second stay, and we visited as a family with two preschool children. Once again, we had a wonderful time. The interior is beautiful and serene, with a space that reflects Kyoto’s aesthetic sensibility and harmony with nature. Wherever you are, the atmosphere feels comfortable, and the stay itself feels like it helps reset your mind. Most impressive of all is the outstanding hospitality of the staff. Their warm, attentive care made us feel at ease throughout our stay, even with small children. Our children’s favorite was the kids’ room “Grow.” It was especially impressive to see the staff naturally and politely interacting with children from many countries in both Japanese and English—true hospitality and professionalism. There were also plenty of original craft activities and play experiences, which our kids thoroughly enjoyed. Another major highlight is how thoughtfully child-friendly this Hotel is in so many ways. Although limited to earlier hours, families can use the bar as well; this time the rooftop bar was open, so we visited. Enjoying drinks together as a family while taking in the open views felt truly luxurious. The restaurant Sekki features an open-kitchen style and strikes a great balance between sophistication and relaxed comfort, making it easy to dine with children. We also appreciated the careful consideration given to creating spaces for guests who want quiet time as well as for families, which allowed us to enjoy dinner without feeling self-conscious. With a large public bath and a pool on site, our whole family was able to relax completely. It’s rare to find such a luxurious Hotel that also delivers this level of satisfaction for families traveling with children. We’re planning to return in September, and we’re already very much looking forward to our next visit.

    A clean and well-maintained Hotel.

The location is in an area I like, close to the National Museum, Sanjusangendo, and Yogen-in, and it was quiet as well, so I felt I could enjoy a relaxing stay. Room cleaning was very thorough, including turndown service. At the bar, we were able to join a cocktail-making experience. It was a lot of fun, and everything was explained carefully—making it a wonderful memory. We only used the breakfast dining option. There were many deli-style dishes and overall it felt like a healthy menu. It gave me energy in the morning, and even two days in a row I didn’t get tired of it. As for service, there were many international staff members whose Japanese wasn’t fully fluent, but their hospitality came through. The only downside was one Japanese female staff member on the breakfast restaurant floor who came across as arrogant, which was truly disappointing. Communication isn’t only about language, so I even found myself thinking it might be better if that area were staffed only by international team members.

Given the quality of this meal, it would be difficult.

I stayed here during Golden Week. The Facility is wonderful, and I slept very well in the Room’s bed. Attention to detail is excellent. I understand the healthy-and-wellness concept, but at this level the meals are a tough sell in Kyoto. The vegetables are good enough to eat, but I wouldn’t say they are actively delicious. While famous restaurants and high-end Hotel restaurants were fully booked during Golden Week, there were quite a lot of empty seats here—an honest reflection of guests’ reactions. Rather than an unappealing “healthy-and-wellness” meal conceived from a foreign perspective, Japan has shojin ryori; if that were served, I could understand the concept. But with sushi included, I found myself wondering how that fits “healthy and wellness.” It’s disappointing because the Facility is so good. I skipped breakfast on the second day.

We had a wonderful day and were very satisfied!

From check-in, I felt transported to another world. The concept was consistent throughout the Room, dining, and activities, making the stay truly comfortable. The staff were also kind; this was my first visit, but I’d love to stay again.

Both adults and children enjoyed their stay.

We came mainly for the wellness program, but we were amazed by how well equipped the kids’ area was. We had been wondering what to do while waiting for the wellness program, but it turned out to be a needless worry. The dedicated staff were wonderful—so kind to our children—and we truly appreciated their help. Of course, we were also very satisfied with the wellness program itself. The large public bath had a pleasantly quiet atmosphere, and we even got to enjoy the pool almost as if it were private. The food was delicious, and we were very happy with the attentive service. We felt refreshed both physically and mentally in so many ways. We’d love to stay again and come back to play as well.

    Thank you very much.

It was a great Hotel. As a small luxury Hotel, I didn’t have very high expectations for the Facility before arriving, but both the property and the service were excellent. In particular, the spa staff and a female staff member at the breakfast venue (both non-Japanese) took great care of us.\n\nWe visited on a tight schedule, and when my wife caught a cold and couldn’t eat breakfast, they kindly prepared a lunch box for her. She was able to rest in our Room, and by evening she had fully recovered. When we reported an issue with the spa facilities, the staff fixed it immediately, so we could use them comfortably.\n\nRoom cleaning and turndown service were also spotless. We would definitely like to visit again—thank you very much.

    An Accommodation That Exceeds Expectations

After watching Reviews and stay videos on YouTube, this was a Hotel I had wanted to visit for a long time. From check-in, the courteous service exceeded my expectations, and I was truly glad I chose to stay here. Even though it was the middle day of a three-day holiday weekend, they upgraded my Room, and I was able to spend my time very comfortably. There is also a well-built large public bath, which helped me relax even more. The breakfast I was most looking forward to delighted both my eyes and my taste buds, and I could understand why people come just for the meal. At check-out, I received a lovely message and a small gift, and I was deeply impressed by such hospitality even on my first stay. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

I appreciated the cloth hand towel.

I never imagined that not using plastic could feel this good. I was so happy to receive cloth hand towels at the front desk and in the restaurant. Many hotels and restaurants often provide individually wrapped wet wipes, and it reminded me how disappointing that is. From the moment I entered the Hotel, it was one wonderful experience after another. I love saunas, spacious baths, and good food (so I only stay at a Hotel or Ryokan with a large public bath), and both the spa and breakfast were excellent. It was my first time experiencing such a deep cold plunge pool, and it felt amazing. The yoga class was in English, but everything was explained carefully and clearly, so even I—who can’t speak English—could understand. I stayed over the weekend, but it never felt crowded inside the Hotel, and I could relax at my own pace. The breakfast may be the best I’ve ever had at any Hotel. I’m glad I chose to stay here for my birthday. It became a truly memorable trip. Thank you very much.

    Thank you for your patronage.

This was my first stay, and I was very impressed with the thoughtful touches like the hot water bottle in the bed-making and the facility arrangements. The sauna and cold bath also made for a great stay. Thank you very much!

A new Hotel with well-trained staff.

As a relatively new hotel, I was initially concerned about the staff's training, but I had a pleasant stay. One of the highlights of this hotel was being able to choose the roast level for coffee at breakfast, which is rare in hotels. They even offered light roast coffee. Although I couldn't use it this time due to limited hours, the hotel has a large public bath available. Ideally, it would be great if the bath could be used until around midnight so guests can enjoy it after dinner. Additionally, after getting out of a taxi, I realized that I had dropped my important scarf and hadn't taken the taxi receipt, so I didn't know which company to contact. The staff kindly checked security cameras and helped me locate my scarf safely. Thank you very much for your assistance!

This was my third stay, not for Kyoto sightseeing but solely for the wellness program. The complimentary activities for guests remain excellent, and I enjoyed the new feature of receiving a mini Daruma as a checkout gift—one per room—where I could borrow a brush pen on-site to draw in its eyes. Everything is always impeccably clean, and the breakfast is healthy, diverse, and delicious. There are very few luxury accommodations focused on health in such convenient locations, which is greatly appreciated by older guests like me. The welcome sweets in four wooden boxes have been reduced in quantity compared to before; while it’s understandable as an eco-friendly measure since many were likely left uneaten and wasted previously, it was slightly disappointing. However, I quickly finished the welcome fruits and handmade jarred treats provided as snacks—they were replenished promptly, which made me happy. I'll be back next year!

Both mind and body were rejuvenated.

I was initially anxious about staying with my mother, who requires care, but the accommodation staff made adjustments in advance to ensure a safe and comfortable stay. Thanks to their efforts, we were able to stay with peace of mind. Surrounded by the warmth of the staff, not only my mother but I myself felt healed both mentally and physically and enjoyed a truly fulfilling time. The restaurant staff's smiles were particularly wonderful. Despite being busy, they took the time to speak with us, making the atmosphere welcoming and allowing us to enjoy our meals pleasantly. The food at Sekki was delicious; I especially loved the bread, fruits, soup, vegetables, and special smoothies. The matcha black soybean cream cheese bread served exclusively at breakfast is highly recommended! For those who haven’t tried Sekki’s breakfast yet, I strongly encourage you to experience it at least once. The room is barrier-free; however, it would be appreciated if considerations could be made for bed heights that are easier for elderly guests requiring care to get on and off from as well as carpets designed to prevent tripping hazards.

Delicious cuisine with a well-defined concept

The service was very attentive, the food was delicious, and it was a refreshing stay. The concept was well thought out, and both the soft and hard aspects of the Hotel left a cohesive impression. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, and it was rare to find a Hotel maintained to such a high level of cleanliness. However, there were parts of the service that felt incomplete, which was disappointing. While I thought it might be due to a language barrier, the same issues occurred with Japanese staff, which was puzzling. - During tea time, I used an outdoor seat, but when I was guided to the table, the cutlery had already been blown off the table by the wind and scattered on the floor. Additionally, no hand towels were provided even after the meal started, which made it difficult to begin eating. → It was obvious at a glance that the table and floor were in this state, but neither the staff guiding me nor those serving the food reacted. As it was my first time, I tried to interact with multiple staff members, but there was no response. I ended up using the remaining cutlery on the table, such as forks, as best as I could. As for the hand towels, I thought there might be a service procedure, but other tables were being served, which left me confused. I wanted to hold hard cookies by hand, and although there were several opportunities when staff came to the table, they did not respond to my confusion. Eventually, I had to request them after starting my meal. - I used Room service and requested ice. Both parties confirmed and repeated the order (as I had noticed some concerns earlier), but it was never delivered, so I gave up. - The fragrance service mentioned during turndown was not provided. Thinking it might have been a misunderstanding, I decided to let it go. And so on. While these were not major issues, they accumulated over time. It seems that actively catching up or communicating intentions from my side might make for a more pleasant stay overall.

Overall, this is an excellent hotel. While 95% of the guests seem to be international visitors, it’s a hotel that Japanese guests should experience at least once. The price can often be more affordable when booking through IKYU.com, so I highly recommend giving it a try. You won’t regret it. To avoid spoiling the surprises and enjoyment during your stay, I’ll keep the details brief, but I must mention that their natural cuisine is truly exquisite and their hospitality surpasses that of other top-tier hotels. I will definitely visit again!

    My birthday

Once again, I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel. The staff's warm hospitality made me feel truly special as I celebrated my 74th birthday in ultimate luxury. Stepping away from daily life, my close friends joined me to celebrate an unforgettable birthday, creating cherished memories. At checkout, I received a Daruma doll for good luck and prayed for my grandchild's success in their school entrance exam near the Six Senses Hotel. It felt like a "Congratulations on Passing" Daruma! It was the best souvenir ever. Thank you so much!

The whole family enjoyed and relaxed.

The staff's hospitality was exceptional. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the play area with activities like painting and slides, while adults relaxed in the pool and sauna. The breakfast was delicious, ranking among my top three favorites. The variety of gluten-free bread (three types) was particularly impressive. It was a stay that felt kind to the body, the planet, and our family. I would love to visit again!

A Hotel for Rest and Relaxation

After experiencing sleepless nights during the hot summer and feeling physically drained, I stayed at Six Senses Kyoto for two nights and was able to sleep soundly, fully rejuvenating both my body and mind. Even while in Kyoto, I thoroughly enjoyed a slow travel experience by spending quality time at the Hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delicious. The meals featured local ingredients unique to Kyoto, such as vegetables from Ohara and herbs grown in the garden, allowing me to feel the blessings of nature. At night, I savored cocktails at the bar, while during the day I enjoyed yoga activities. This is a Hotel where I'd like to stay regularly for retreats.

It was the best anniversary ever.

The Room, bathroom, large public bath, amenities, cuisine, and service were all excellent. In particular, the hospitality level of the first-floor staff was outstanding and truly moving. This exceptional experience began the moment we arrived at the Hotel. When we simply mentioned our name to the entrance staff (perhaps a porter?), they immediately congratulated us on our wedding anniversary. Both my spouse and I were deeply touched and became instant fans of this Hotel. On the other hand, one concern was that some aspects of floor operations or coordination at Restaurant Sekki felt a bit disorganized. Given that every aspect of this Hotel is exceptionally high-level and even the cuisine is impressive enough to move you emotionally, there were a few moments where I found myself questioning things slightly. Additionally—this is just a suggestion—it would be helpful if there were bags provided for carrying belongings when going from the Room to the large public bath. Nevertheless, these minor points pale in comparison to how moved we were throughout our stay. This became an unforgettable anniversary celebration for us. Thank you very much! We definitely hope to visit again!

    It was wonderful.

The interior design and concept art throughout the accommodation are incredibly charming, uplifting your spirits just by exploring. Additionally, the hotel emphasizes wellness and nature, offering a variety of activities such as exercise programs and access to their herb garden, making it an enjoyable stay. The staff are exceptionally friendly and approachable in the best way possible, allowing for a truly relaxing experience. The room was well-equipped with no shortcomings in facilities, ensuring a comfortable stay. The welcome amenities were impressive, featuring delicious natural snacks and beverages that made time spent in the room even more delightful. Dinner was meticulously prepared using seasonal ingredients, allowing guests to savor the flavors of each season. The open kitchen adds an extra layer of enjoyment as you can watch the cooking process unfold. Breakfast offered great flexibility with a prix fixe menu alongside an extensive buffet selection that was surprisingly abundant in variety and volume. Overall, it was a wonderful accommodation experience—I look forward to visiting again!

A Kyoto oasis to clear your mind and body

Stayed for one night over a hot weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by a lovely aroma at check-in, making us feel as if we had left Kyoto entirely. The hotel's commitment to sustainability and minimizing waste made me reflect on my own lifestyle. Despite this eco-conscious approach, every detail was thoughtfully designed to ensure guests' comfort and enjoyment. The meals were especially delightful, with fresh vegetables, bread, and fruits that felt nourishing from the inside out. Even the complimentary snacks in the room had a gentle flavor that heightened our senses. We also enjoyed two free daily activities offered by the hotel and participated in making body scrubs. Using them later at the bathing facility left our skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Eating wholesome food and experiencing their zero-waste philosophy allowed us to clear both mind and body in just one night. This is more than just a place to stay while sightseeing—it's an experience not to be missed! At least try their vegetables; they are deliciously simple with just salt!

An urban resort offering a premium stay experience

A luxurious hotel in Kyoto with a wellness concept, offering a serene atmosphere distinct from large, opulent hotels. The interior materials, scents, and lighting create a unique ambiance. The staff provided attentive and kind service. The facility includes an exceptional pool with an extraordinary atmosphere, a well-equipped gym, and relaxing bathing facilities that we thoroughly enjoyed using. We dined at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. For dinner, we invited relatives living in Kyoto to join us for the course meal. The natural-themed menu was reasonably priced for such a high-end hotel, with perfect seasoning and portions—deliciously satisfying for everyone involved. Breakfast might be one of this accommodation's highlights—it’s entirely different from typical hotel buffets. In the natural restaurant setting, guests can enjoy refined local Japanese and Western dishes through both à la carte options and buffet selections featuring various juices and smoothies—all of which were delightful. On the second day, we used our accommodation credit to experience the spa as a couple. The tranquil environment allowed us to relax fully; it was an incredibly satisfying experience for both of us. This was a long-awaited stay at this accommodation that exceeded expectations—a truly fulfilling experience! We look forward to staying here again in the future!
