Our third stay at Grand Mercure Awaji Island
This year, we stayed here as a couple during the daffodil season in February, and again in July with our grandchild (the three of us). The pool was open from July, and perhaps from being tired from playing, our grandchild fell asleep without eating much. At first, in the restaurant’s kids’ area, they used tongs to put popcorn into a cup and started eating at the table, but it didn’t really count as a meal. I would have liked a menu that lets children enjoy the buffet on their own while also having a nutritious dinner. I also think the popcorn should be placed where adults serve themselves rather than within children’s reach. Other than that, we had a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

Perhaps because it’s summer vacation, this Hotel has many families with children.
Since my child still can’t serve themselves, having buffet meals both at dinner and breakfast felt a bit of a hassle. However, we were very satisfied with the buffet selection and the alcoholic drinks! The pool was extremely crowded, but we still enjoyed it. For some reason, there was a crab in the open-air bath. The view from the Room was also great.

Summer Vacation
Thank you for taking care of us during our summer vacation. The Room was clean, and the view was amazing. There was a wide variety of food, and we really enjoyed it. Since the outdoor pool was quite busy, we wished the changing room had been a bit larger. It was a trip we had been looking forward to, and thanks to you it became a wonderful memory—thank you very much.

First time.
This was my first time using an all-inclusive plan. All of the crew were polite and very helpful. The Room was clean, but there were not many amenities. Since there was only one elevator, the wait time was long, and the souvenir shop’s opening hours were short, so I hope these will be improved. Dinner and breakfast were available without waiting in line. Thank you very much. The Room was clean, but I felt that the Facility itself may be a bit old.

A Surprising Experience
When staying on Awaji Island, I often used the Hotel New Awaji group, but since we have a young child, I thought a more family-friendly place where we wouldn’t have to worry so much would be better, so we tried the all-inclusive Grand Mercure Awaji Island for the first time. At Grand Mercure, the “all-inclusive” felt like obvious cost-cutting and staff reductions in every aspect, with interpretations that suited the Hotel and an atmosphere of “just do as you’re told.” I didn’t feel even a little hospitality, and if this is what all-inclusive means, I don’t want to use it again. Also, while there was a huge difference in Facilities between rooms before and after renovation, the price was the same—one surprise after another. After this experience, I truly felt again that hotels in the Hotel New Awaji group are the reliable choice.

A Family Trip with My Son’s Family
We stayed as a group of five: our son and his wife, our grandchild, and the two of us. The Room was clean, and we were very satisfied with the meals. Because it was a three-day holiday weekend, the baths were crowded and we couldn’t relax as much as we would have liked, which was a bit disappointing, but otherwise we were very satisfied. Our grandchild liked it very much and says they want to go again. We would love to visit again if we have the opportunity.

I visited on Friday,...
I visited on Friday, and it was crowded, so the only dinner times available were 5:00 PM or 8:00 PM, which caught me off guard. With a small child, 8:00 PM is simply not realistic... I understand it’s a three-time-slot system, but I wish we could choose the time when making the Reservation (we checked in around 4:30 PM). Since you can’t tell at the time of Reservation whether it’s a three-slot system in the first place, it’s confusing. Also, there are no towels in the large public bath. On top of that, there isn’t even a bag in the Room to carry towels and other items around, so please be aware. There is no complimentary bottled water; you need to refill water yourself. The vending machines are only on B1. The food included many international dishes, and you need separate plates for each type, which was tiring. There were no divided plates (the common kind with six sections). Because of that, I couldn’t take small portions of many items at once—and with kids you can’t keep going back repeatedly—so it was tough. I think satisfaction would be higher if you go during the off-season. The Room was clean. The Onsen had spacious changing areas and washing stations, so I could use it without stress. I’m glad I got a good deal, but I wouldn’t stay again at peak-season regular rates.

It seems the children had a very enjoyable stay.
We have been coming here every year for the past three years with our grandchild. From our first stay, it seemed fun and not boring for a child, so we can’t go to any other Hotel anymore. However, the bath water felt too hot to use in summer.

This is my second time!
Although it was before the summer holidays, there were many guests and the pool was crowded. Dinner was by Reservation with staggered time slots, so choosing dishes went more smoothly than expected. There is one thing I would really like you to improve. The futon was too thin and made my body ache, and the pillow was also thin, so I could hardly sleep. I would appreciate it if you could make improvements. Thank you in advance.

Perfect for families.
Overall, we were satisfied. For a trip with only adults, it may feel a bit too lively and not very relaxing, but it’s perfect for families with children. The meals were delicious and offered a wide variety. In particular, the dishes made with Awaji Island onions were excellent. The bath area is a little small, and depending on the time of day there may not be enough hair dryers. It would be nice if there were facial soap in the washing area inside the bath rather than only in the changing room.

Since we had a Reser...
Since we had a Reservation for an ocean-view Room, the view was great, and although the property is a bit old, it was very comfortable. The male staff member at the restaurant was very kind and pleasant. There were many guests and dining is run in three shifts, so I understand it can’t be helped, but the tables—especially the two-person ones—were very close together, so it didn’t feel very relaxing. We were in the last dining group and used the bath first, so it wasn’t as crowded as expected and we could soak slowly. However, since it was early, we couldn’t have amazake (sweet fermented rice drink), which was disappointing. It would be great if the shop could stay open until around check-out time!

There were many families with children.
Even though children were swimming in the men’s bath, their father acted as if he didn’t notice. The meals offered a good variety and were satisfying. The staff’s service was good. The elevators were crowded and the wait was too long. I would like to stay at Mercure Hotels in various locations.

The meals are great.
I was truly surprised by the wide variety of items, and they kept restocking constantly. I thought it would be the last batch, but more and more was added. However, it was very crowded.

First visit in two years. A Hotel that’s truly appreciated by families with children.
This was our second stay, returning for the first time in two years. Last time, shortly after opening, the check-in line moved very slowly when we arrived at 3:30 pm, and it also took time because many guests were choosing mineral water, amenities, and yukata after check-in. This time we checked in at the same hour, but everything was smooth with no crowding. Yukata were provided in the Room (children’s sizes are still self-service), mineral water is now available from a water dispenser, and basic amenities are also placed in the Room. Our child—who was 2 last time—is now 4 and much more active. The newly added kids’ area on the basement level was a huge hit! The Japanese snack corner also really captured our child’s attention. There were indoor play equipment, toys, and books, so they played happily without getting bored. Meanwhile, adults could relax with beer or other drinks while enjoying snacks. We ended up spending so much time there that we barely used the pool as originally planned. However, since the pool is small and the changing room Facilities feel old and not renovated, we might have been disappointed if the pool had been our only purpose—so in that sense, we were very grateful for the kids’ area. The pool changing rooms felt like a public pool: wet floors everywhere; old shower booths; and even though there is a spin dryer machine available for swimsuits (5 minutes per cycle), it takes long compared to those at fitness clubs (about 5 seconds), so we had to wait our turn. I think it would be worth considering installing newer machines. As for our Room: last time we stayed in a Japanese-style room where the tatami mats and futons felt old; the TV was outdated; and the sink area was cramped as part of a unit bath. This time we stayed in a Western-style room with separate bath/toilet/sink areas plus a newer renovated TV setup—very comfortable. Dinner has changed to an advance Reservation system. We checked in at 3:30 pm but found that all 6:30 pm slots were already full. We booked an 8:00 pm slot; however, at 7:20 pm we still had to enter again via their Reservation site to join seating entry/queueing—and there were already about 30 groups ahead of us—so we didn’t get seated until around 8:30 pm. Our children got hungry and cranky while waiting, so I felt this process could be improved somehow. The shabu-shabu dinner seemed to have better meat than last time… maybe? Also, they increased shabu-shabu stations from one to three as a crowd-control measure. Our child also said they enjoyed the limited-time yokai-themed event. Overall this return visit left us very satisfied thanks to improvements like the kids’ area and more family-friendly events—we’d love to come back again next time too.

Standardization of Staff Tasks
The front desk staff gave us a pleasant welcome and farewell, but the other staff members felt purely task-focused. I understand you will be even busier in the coming season, but please keep up the good work.

A Resort Hotel Near the Kyoto–Osaka–Kobe Area
Just over an hour from Kobe, the ocean-view rooms offer sweeping views of the Naruto Strait and Shikoku. The pool was lively with children, so we chose not to use it, but if it had been quieter we would have loved to relax by the poolside. The open-air bath was at the perfect temperature, and we enjoyed a long, leisurely soak. With all-inclusive service, we were able to fully enjoy everything without worrying about extra costs.

Conversely.
I chose to stay because it’s an all-inclusive Hotel, but since everything is free, all the Facility areas were extremely crowded and it wasn’t relaxing. However, the kids’ play areas were well equipped and very good. I also stayed for a Multiple Night Stay (2 nights), but there were restrictions such as being able to use the Facility only from 9:00 a.m. until checkout at 11:00 or 12:00, and then again only from 3:00 p.m. after check-in, so there was no real benefit to staying multiple nights. In that case, I feel I should have stayed at a different Hotel for one night instead.

Glad to hear that.
Even though it was a weekday before the summer holidays, the Hotel was lively with many guests. The meals were enjoyable even for a 2-year-old, and adults could also savor delicious local ingredients from Awaji Island. It was great that draft beer and local sake were available in the lounge and at dinner. At both dinner and breakfast, the buffet area was kept clean at all times, dishes were replenished smoothly, and used plates were collected frequently—I was impressed by how attentive the staff were, which made dining very comfortable. The open-air bath and pool were also well maintained and clean, so using them felt very pleasant. This is a Hotel I would like to visit again.

Japanese-style room
I’ve stayed at Grand Mercure six times and really like it. This was my first time staying in a Japanese-style room, but I was disappointed that there was only one futon mattress and no additional mattress pad underneath.

View from the Garden
There is a garden where you can take a walk, and on the hill there is a free telescope, which offered a beautiful view of the whirlpools beneath the Naruto Bridge.

Easy check-in and check-out.
Easy check-in with web-only Reservation, and we were very satisfied with the all-you-can-drink and all-you-can-eat options. Check-out was also quick and easy with no extra charges. We stayed in one Room for four friends, but the 10-tatami Japanese-style Room felt a bit small with the low table and suitcases. It would have been better if it were a little larger, or if there were a Japanese-Western style Room option. The Onsen water was great. It was disappointing that we couldn’t see the ocean from either our Room or the open-air bath. There were hot water and cold water dispensers, but we also wanted an ice dispenser.

The Best Birthday Ever!!
I stayed with my husband, son, and mother to celebrate my birthday! This was our second stay at Mercure Awaji Island, and the food was delicious—everyone ate to their fill and was very satisfied. We stayed in a Deluxe Suite, so the Room was very spacious, and my son was thrilled! The Onsen was also wonderfully relaxing. The kids’ lounge was open as well, and my son had a great time and looked so happy.

Thank you!
We stayed here for my son’s birthday. He loves fish, so he was thrilled with the Room that felt like being inside an aquarium, and we made wonderful memories. The kids’ area and lounge were also great, and it was such high quality that even on a rainy day the Hotel itself became the destination—not just a place to stay. We’d love to stay again.

It was far away.
It was farther from Kyoto than I expected. I couldn’t find the Shinki Bus Terminal in Sannomiya and ended up walking around looking for it. With major construction around the station, it was even harder to navigate. The lounge and meals were great, but since it’s a large Hotel, it was extremely crowded. There wasn’t anywhere to sit in the bath area and I had to wait, so I thought it would be helpful to have a board showing how crowded it is. The view from the Room was great.

A consistently reliable Mercure.
Thank you for your hospitality. Five of us stayed: my 93-year-old mother-in-law, my husband who uses a walker, my brother-in-law and his wife, and myself. When we completed check-in around 2:30 p.m., we were told that the Room key cards would be handed out at a separate counter at 3:00 p.m., so we should wait in the lobby. However, when we asked if we could enter the Room earlier, you kindly gave us the cards right away, which was very helpful. For reference, at Mercure Kashihara, after check-in they have a system where guests wait in the lobby and are called one by one—“Guests in Room number ____, your Room is ready”—and then receive their cards. At the restaurant, perhaps because there were five of us, staff guided us to our seats. It was quite busy, but since the venue is spacious it didn’t bother us, and the food was replenished quickly. The sashimi was especially delicious—sea bream and octopus were excellent (as expected from Naruto). For breakfast, I had a two-color rice bowl with fresh whitebait and boiled whitebait. One thing I noticed in the Room was that it was dark above the mirror because there was no light there, making it hard to see. If installing lighting is difficult, placing a stand lamp would make it easier to apply makeup. Thank you for your consideration. We will be visiting again next month as well—thank you in advance.

The kids will be thrilled.
This was our first stay, as the grandparents wanted to take a trip with their grandchildren. Because they have limited mobility, the all-inclusive plan—allowing them to enjoy themselves within the Hotel—was very appealing and was the deciding factor for our visit. There was a great selection of drinks, snacks, and sweets, and both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style with a wide variety of delicious dishes. The grandparents and children were all very happy. The bath area also offered vinegar drinks and mineral water, and we were able to relax in the sofas and lounge space after bathing. This is a Hotel we would definitely like to visit again.

We stayed over the weekend, and everyone—from the front desk staff to the dining area team—was very attentive, making our stay truly comfortable. When we previously stayed at Mercure Wakayama, we had to find our own seats at dinner, which was difficult. This time, thanks to the advance waitlist registration system, even with a large group we were seated smoothly without being split up. Thank you very much!
