I’ve been visiting almost every month since this spring, looking forward to your creative and beautifully presented dishes, and once again I thoroughly enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. A slight disappointment was that the milky white hot spring water that impressed me so much on my first visit was hardly cloudy this time, and that the uniquely shaped shower in the Room bath had low water pressure and was difficult to use… It’s at a level where washing my hair in the Room is not really possible, so I hope this can be improved. That said, as far as I know, there is no Accommodation in Hakone that surpasses yours, so I will be back again next month. Thank you for your continued support.

An Accommodation I’d been curious about in my beloved Hakone
I stayed at an Accommodation I’d been curious about in my beloved Hakone. I was worried about the weather, but it held up on the first day, so we visited Hakone Shrine, which I love. After soaking up plenty of fresh air, you kindly picked us up at Hakone Shrine and took us back to the Accommodation. When we entered the Room, I was amazed by how spacious it was. One deciding factor in choosing this Accommodation was that the Room came fully equipped with a sauna—my partner’s favorite. I’m glad they were so happy to be able to enjoy a sauna right in the Room. The dining experience was very thoughtfully designed, and waiting for each dish sparked our imagination—it was such a fun time. We also enjoyed guessing what might come next together. And not only that—the food itself was truly delicious. On top of that, we were given conger eel as a late-night snack. We thought we’d be too full to eat it, but we ended up finishing it easily between the two of us. Breakfast was completely different from dinner—a Japanese-style meal—and it was also delicious. The souvenir selection was great as well, and I bought my sauna-loving partner a sauna hat. The two days flew by, and we had a wonderful time. Thank you very much. Also, feeding the goats at the Accommodation was incredibly soothing. Sora-chan with her big appetite, modest Oribe-chan, and easygoing Kohaku-chan—each one was adorable.

No. 1 in Hospitality — The Ultimate Accommodation
My second stay since May. This time I stayed in the Forest View Suite, Room 201. At 92 m², it felt like it had a larger bath area than the other Rooms. The Room is furnished with pieces from Germany’s Cappellini, and the comfort was outstanding. In the courtyard visible from the lounge, there were three of the Accommodation’s famous goats. They’re very friendly and unbelievably cute. Once again, I felt truly relaxed thanks to their animal-therapy effect. The service was also the best ever this time—great hospitality and easy conversation. The warmth of interacting with people is this group’s biggest charm. The cuisine focuses on quality ingredients: modern French that makes dynamic use of firewood. It paired perfectly with the wine pairing, and we even had conger eel sushi as a late-night bite. For breakfast, we enjoyed their signature tonjiru pork miso soup, and this time there was a surprising dish: grilled eel (shirayaki) over rice in the morning. Delicious with wasabi or sea salt, and changing up the flavor with their house-made eel sauce was fantastic too. It was incredibly good. We also chose a Plan that included limited Kenzo Estate wines—this was truly amazing as well. I’d love to visit again in another season.

Exceptional hospitality
This was my second stay, about two years since the last time. On my previous visit, everything left a lasting impression—the quality of the Onsen water, the hospitality, and the food—so this time I returned for a Multiple Night Stay of two nights. Over the past two years I’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokans for both work and personal trips, but coming back here reminded me once again what makes this place so special. Although I arrived much later than planned, a staff member greeted me at the entrance to the parking area in light rain. It was already dark and hard to see the entrance clearly, so I truly appreciated that thoughtful attention to detail. My Room was the same as last time, with a direct view of Mt. Fuji. The spacious layout, spotless cleanliness, and the ability to enjoy an Onsen bath and sauna in the Room were all outstanding. On day two I spent the entire day working online from my Room. After finishing work and relaxing in the Onsen and sauna, I didn’t feel like going out, so late in the afternoon I decided on short notice to request dinner at the Hotel. I have a beef allergy and have also been avoiding heavy dishes recently, so I made several difficult requests—but they accommodated them graciously. And that meal was truly exceptional. Though French cuisine, it was light yet satisfying—clean flavors with a gentle touch. Each dish was carefully prepared; everything was surprisingly delicious, and I enjoyed it comfortably through to the end. I’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokans over the years, but this visit reminded me that true quality shows itself not only in luxury but in attentive care for each individual guest. The staff’s natural and pleasant service, wonderful food, and a quiet space where you can truly unwind made for an immensely fulfilling stay. My work progressed smoothly as well—I felt refreshed both physically and mentally. I will definitely return again soon. Thank you very much.

May not be suitable for everyone.
Drawn by the high ratings and the spacious Room with a private Onsen and sauna, I stayed here for the first time. Room: Immaculately clean. Stylish furniture throughout both the lobby and the Room. It’s stairs only up to the 3rd floor, so going up and down is a bit of a workout, but the space is very generous. The sauna is compact and heats up quickly with just a small amount of löyly. The cold bath has no chiller. The in-room Onsen has a small tub, but it carries a faint sulfur scent typical of Owakudani Onsen; with the windows wide open, it feels like a semi-open-air bath. Since my Room had a terrace, I could cool down outside in a bathrobe and relax comfortably. The bed was also large and very comfortable. Dining: Breakfast was excellent—especially the rice—and the fish as well. Dinner featured very elaborate dishes; however, fruit was used in almost every course, making them quite sweet. I can see how it was designed to work with each ingredient, but I’m not great with sweet flavors—one or two courses would have been fine, but when it’s throughout the entire meal… it didn’t suit my taste, which was disappointing. The wine pairings were tasty on their own, but they didn’t always click perfectly with the food; I would have appreciated selections that complemented each dish more clearly. Service: Goats greet you at the entrance—adorable. It was also soothing to enjoy dinner while watching them calmly graze. Even so, what kept me from fully relaxing was being repeatedly asked for feedback by staff—especially some of the male staff members—not just once or twice: How was this dish? How about this one? Were you satisfied with the wine? What did you think of the goats? Was your Room good? How were your baths? Even when carrying our luggage to the parking lot at the very end, we were asked what we thought of this building. It felt like they were constantly seeking praise, and I couldn’t settle in. (The chef at least left us alone—but as other Reviews mention too, he didn’t speak to our table at all either.) When we stayed inside our Room it was wonderful… but this is my first time feeling that service was “too much” at an Accommodation in this price range. The Room itself is extremely comfortable; considering whether or not to include meals might be one way to make this stay work better for different guests. I hope things improve going forward.

I stayed in the Nozomi Room.
Surrounded by greenery, we could see Mt. Fuji in the distance. We were able to relax and spend time doing nothing at all. We also enjoyed the Onsen and sauna. The dinner was French cuisine, and we were amazed by the chef’s skill using a wood fire. The heat control was perfect, and the seasoning was exquisite. The venison was the best I’ve ever had. Above all, the many creative dishes unlike anything we’d tried before were outstanding—easily comparable to top restaurants in Tokyo. Even for dessert, that big-built chef creates something delicate and beautiful. The wine selection is excellent as well. Breakfast was simple but healthy and delicious. There weren’t many side dishes to go with rice, but the pork miso soup was wonderful. This was our second visit, and we would definitely like to stay again.

An extraordinary retreat surrounded by lush nature and refined furnishings.
Amid the relentless heat, I visited for the first time in search of cooler air. As it turned out, it was a deeply satisfying stay—so much so that the Hotel itself became the destination. ・Guest room From the large living-room windows, you can take in lush mountain greenery and even see the goats in the garden. The refined space is highlighted by Poltrona Frau leather sofas and chairs. The bath is filled with slightly milky Owakudani Onsen water. Savoring free-flow Champagne, I enjoyed soaking many times during my stay. ・Dinner Light yet beautiful French cuisine, with a subtle accent of wood-fire aroma. Seasonal ingredients such as ayu sweetfish and hamo conger eel were prepared in a variety of ways, and I was truly impressed by their delicate flavors. For dessert, there was an especially memorable touch: according to the staff, vanilla essence was gently poured from an original bottle designed like a perfume bottle inspired by Chanel No. 5. For wine, we enjoyed Kenzo Estate’s “Asatsuyu” and “Rindo,” included as Plan perks. With careful attention from the sommelier—temperature control and timing of opening—the renowned Napa wines tasted even better. ・Breakfast A Japanese set is served. Carefully selected ingredients from around Hakone are presented warm and freshly made. The tonjiru (pork miso soup) prepared by a French chef was on another level compared to what I make at home—I was amazed it could be elevated into something so elegant. ・Service The service was exceptionally polite and attentive. They also kept an eye on replenishing drinks in the refrigerator and fresh linens, creating an atmosphere where it felt easy to request anything additional—something I truly appreciated. This Accommodation is highly recommended for adults who want to savor fine dining, Onsen bathing, and luxurious tranquility at leisure. I would love to return again soon.

Always a soothing stay.
It had been since last autumn, but this is an Accommodation that soothes me no matter when I visit. Of course, the Room and the Onsen are wonderful, as are the meals—modern French with witty, thought-provoking menus each time, and a Japanese breakfast made with carefully selected ingredients—but even more than that, I’m always delighted by the staff’s quiet attentiveness everywhere, including turndown service during both dinner and breakfast. I go outside the rear entrance to smoke each time, and there was a small bench that hadn’t been there before. Near the exit were several mats you can use on the bench. I was moved by these little touches and found myself even more captivated by Kokon. I’m already looking forward to deciding when to visit next.

Satisfied with everything
Room: The third-floor Room is spacious, with excellent taste in furniture and lighting. The Facility offerings are also well equipped. The deck is especially pleasant, giving the feel of a villa in the forest. You can see Mt. Fuji from anywhere in the Room. Bath: The in-room bath had wonderful water quality and was very comfortable—I used it five times. Dining: Creative and absolutely delicious. Portions were just right, and I finished everything. The paired wines were top level. Service: Sincere and attentive to detail. Value for money: Thanks to IKYU, the cost performance was even better—outstanding value. This was the best Accommodation I’ve stayed at in years. I’ll be back.

Japan’s Finest Onsen
This time, we stayed in Room 302 with a terrace. The sauna temperature was set up to a maximum of 90°C—hot enough to satisfy even serious sauna enthusiasts. There was also a cold plunge bath, and we could enjoy outdoor air bathing on the terrace. The in-Room Onsen was spacious as well, so overall we were very satisfied. Dinner was modern French at the restaurant! We enjoyed authentic French cuisine, and the paired wines were excellent—highly recommended for anyone who loves wine. The Room was over 90 m², with a comfortable sofa where we could truly relax. It also came with free-flow drinks including champagne. This is an Accommodation I’d recommend to sauna-loving foodies. If I could request a couple of improvements, having sauna hats available and offering aromatherapy during löyly would make it even more appealing.

Third Visit
I ended up visiting again less than a month after my previous stay. Thank you for welcoming us with smiles again this time, just as with the wonderful hospitality last time. You always kindly accommodate our requests, and I was truly moved that everything—based on our previous requests—had been prepared in the Room from the start. We had another very comfortable stay. I sincerely appreciate the general manager’s thoughtful care and conversation—attentive without being intrusive. Just one thing: during dinner time, the chef made a small performance-style visit to all the other tables, but did not come to ours. When we asked about it, we were told, “The chef is shy and visits tables depending on how they feel.” Since the chef also did not come to our table during dinner on our previous stay, I wondered if they do not visit tables of returning guests. We will stay again.

A truly relaxing experience for both body and mind!
This is our favorite Accommodation—our seventh stay. From the “Welcome back” greeting on arrival to the “Have a safe trip” send-off at departure, we once again enjoyed a truly fulfilling time. This time we came with our son and his wife, and for the first time the four of us stayed in Room 301, “Aya.” The spacious Room offers a view of Mt. Fuji, and the BONALD furniture from Italy creates a calm, refined atmosphere. The sophisticated design without excessive decoration feels distinctly Italian. We enjoyed Onsen water from Owakudani both in the large public bath and in the bath in our Room, and were able to relax completely—mind and body. As always, we are grateful for the staff’s thoughtful yet unobtrusive hospitality that never makes guests feel they must be overly considerate. It was our son and daughter-in-law’s first stay here, and they were amazed by the Room’s furnishings as well as the carefully crafted cuisine. They said they had never experienced this kind of small luxury before, and were extremely satisfied. Chef Yokoyama’s dishes exceeded our expectations again! We are always surprised by his ingredient pairings and cooking techniques. The experience delights both visually and in taste, reflecting rich creativity that can only come from sincere dedication to ingredients and cuisine. We also thoroughly enjoyed the wine pairing we look forward to every time—featuring labels such as Meursault and Château Talbot (Saint-Julien), which we rarely have the chance to savor. Breakfast was also prepared with great care using fresh ingredients—and this time it even included grilled eel over rice (shirayaki). It was such a luxurious morning menu that we ended up eating too much, but we were completely satisfied. Another highlight was spending time with the three goats. They have grown so much since our first visit two years ago, and feeding them while enjoying their adorable presence was truly soothing. We’re already looking forward to our next stay.

Revisit
We returned because we couldn’t forget the wonderful impression from our first stay last year to celebrate my husband’s birthday. This time it was just an ordinary visit, but the high level of hospitality was unchanged even on our second stay. They responded flexibly to our requests without showing any displeasure, and we truly appreciated it—thank you very much. Looking out the window, we saw goats, which was very soothing. The meals were also excellent, and we were told the menu changes every three months. We would love to visit again in a different season, and we look forward to staying with you again then.

This Accommodation clearly showed a sincere commitment to welcoming guests.
We stayed for two nights during Golden Week 2026. Even though Hakone was extremely crowded at that time of year, we were able to relax quietly in a spacious Room. They also provided Shuttle Service by car for sightseeing at nearby Facility, which was a huge help. From here on are purely personal impressions—just my own thoughts. - I’m new to saunas, so I didn’t really make the most of the private sauna. The semi-open-air-style in-room bath was spacious and comfortable, but it was a pity there was no view. The public bath felt the same way. I had been looking forward to spending a holiday surrounded by Hakone’s fresh spring greenery, so perhaps I chose the wrong season. For a cozy winter retreat in Hakone, though, it might have been exactly what I wanted. - During our Multiple Night Stay, they completely changed the menu between the first and second nights. Both the modern French dinner and the Japanese breakfast were excellent. As for the French cuisine—how should I put it—the seasoning had a bold use of salt (not overly salty), and there were a few dishes where I felt “delicious” and “to my taste” are not always the same. - If requested during dinner, they will replenish amenities and drinks; however, we mistakenly assumed this included turndown service. So things like empty plastic bottles left in the dining area remained as they were, which felt slightly odd. Of course they never called it turndown service, so it wasn’t wrong—but I did find myself thinking, “They could just make it turndown… though maybe staffing makes that difficult?” That said, we were truly satisfied with the staff’s attentive yet appropriately distanced service. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

After visiting some of Japan’s finest Accommodations, we finally arrived at the “ultimate masterpiece.”
[Overall] This was my third stay. I’ve visited many of Japan’s most renowned luxury Accommodations, and I’m convinced that Hakone Kokon stands at the very top in every respect—service, cuisine, and Facilities. It delivers a level of quality that surpasses even Michelin-starred Accommodations, yet it still isn’t widely known, which is hard to believe. Perhaps the inspectors simply haven’t found their way to this miracle of a place yet. [Service: Effortless attentiveness in perfect sync] What stands out most is the precision of their personalized hospitality. The small preferences I mentioned on my first visit were remembered and refined perfectly, and with each stay it becomes more comfortable—“my ideal experience takes shape without me having to say a word.” That makes sense given the exceptional team: elite staff who once honed their craft serving Michelin-star regulars, along with an owner who is a legendary producer behind numerous acclaimed luxury Accommodations. The service created by these true professionals—who fully understand what defines a great luxury stay—is nothing short of art. [Rooms & Facilities: A trinity of sauna, cold plunge, and Onsen] Every room is a suite equipped with its own sauna, cold plunge bath, and natural Onsen—an indulgent setup. Having uninterrupted time to truly unwind in complete privacy is pure bliss. There are no compromises in any detail of the Facilities; even the flow of movement throughout your stay feels meticulously designed. [Cuisine: A museum for all five senses] Dinner features Western cuisine and breakfast Japanese cuisine—both presented as exquisite full-course meals by the head chef. If its sister property Kamakura Kokon is like an “interactive musical,” where you enjoy watching the cooking unfold before you and solving the mysteries behind each course, then Hakone Kokon feels like an “art museum,” where beautifully composed plates are admired in a serene space accompanied by music. Each dish feels like receiving an artist’s work—luxurious yet quietly exhilarating. [In closing] In both hardware and service, there is no other Accommodation that leaves me feeling so completely satisfied with nothing to criticize. This is a treasure not only of Hakone but of Japan—an Accommodation I want discerning adults who know true quality to experience for themselves. It may sound exaggerated, but anyone who has stayed even once will surely agree. I look forward to returning again soon.

First visit in nine days
On my first visit, the Accommodation was so wonderful that I came back again just nine days after checking out! And this time, it was a Multiple Night Stay. In total, I stayed three nights within about ten days, and every stay was equally memorable—delicious meals that were hard to rank against each other, Onsen water drawn from Owakudani, the staff’s attentive hospitality, and even the adorable goats that soothed me—all making for an exceptional stay. I’ve finally found an Accommodation in Hakone that I want to visit in every season. I’ll be back again, and I look forward to seeing you.

This was our second ...
This was our second stay. First, the same female staff member as last time served us a delicious welcome drink again. Thank you very much. Last time, although it was minor, I wrote a few things I noticed in a Review. Even so, the meals, the Onsen, and the hospitality once again soothed us and more than made up for everything. In particular, last time we couldn’t use the Owakudani bath, but this time it was restored. We were unexpectedly very satisfied and enjoyed it many times. As for the meals, just like last time, everything was so delicious that it’s hard to choose favorites, but the seri (Japanese parsley) and taro dish with its refreshing dashi broth and the rockfish dish were outstanding. I want to eat them again. If I had one small wish overall, it would be nice to have a post-bath lounge area by the large public bath. There are wonderful drinks waiting back in our Room, but to truly enjoy relaxing right after bathing, having something like coffee milk on the spot would be perfect. In any case, thank you very much for taking such great care of us. The late-night snack was also delicious.

This was a three-generation trip with my elderly mother, and we truly appreciated all your help. Since the Room had two bedrooms, we could stay comfortably without worrying about others, and the in-room bath was even more spacious than the one on the second floor, making it very relaxing. The meals were thoughtfully planned and unlike anything else, with a perfect amount—not too much—and were wonderful. The renewed breakfast was also delicious, and we especially loved the warm yet understated service from the person who served it. We look forward to visiting again.

This Hotel is outstanding in every way—meals, Room, service, and Facility. They remembered my requests from my previous stay and had everything prepared in advance, so I was able to relax in a comfortable Room with lovely interior design. Dinner is always full of surprises; the dishes go beyond anything I can imagine and are even more delicious than expected. It was a truly luxurious dining experience. The staff’s thoughtful care supported my entire stay, and whenever I visit Hakone, this is the Hotel I want to stay at without fail. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

It wasn’t quite to my taste.
Because the Reviews were highly rated, we arrived with very high expectations. We were welcomed by a goat, and checked in on a polar-bear sofa in the lobby—our excitement grew. The Room was very spacious and had some lovely chairs. However, it felt a bit too large, and we weren’t quite sure where to settle in. Since I love large public baths, I headed straight there—but it was slightly small. One person was already inside; while I was washing up, another came in. The tub is fine for two people, but with three it feels a bit tight unless everyone squeezes in. The herbal bath feels full with just one person, so there’s quite a sense of tension. With only five Rooms total, having three people at once may have just been unlucky. In the end, I used the large public bath only once and after that used the bath in our Room. The in-room bath has a sauna, but personally I prefer an open-air bath over a sauna... You can see Mt. Fuji as well, but even if you open the window only part of it opens, so it doesn’t feel very open. Also regarding loungewear: it may be something they’re particular about, but my daughter said it looked uncool and changed into her own clothes even when going out for meals. Dinner felt like modern French with some Italian touches. You can really tell they care about ingredients. There were a few unusual dishes that didn’t quite suit my taste. Breakfast the next day was simple Japanese food made with carefully chosen ingredients. The pork miso soup was incredibly delicious—I could eat endless bowls of rice with just that. The Onsen is excellent water from Owakudani with a faint sulfur scent, and this is an Accommodation where you can also see Mt. Fuji from your Room—but somehow it didn’t fully match my personal preferences.

My wife had a good eye.
In early autumn last year, my wife stayed at Kokin with her sisters. As soon as she got home, she kept saying, “You won’t regret it—let’s go together soon,” and “It’s truly wonderful.” I was a bit skeptical, but we decided to visit for my birthday. From the time we made our Reservation until our arrival, they emailed us at just the right moments. Since we drove this time, they also shared updates on snow and weather conditions—before we even left, I had already become a fan. Once we arrived, every single staff member delivered outstanding hospitality. The Room and in-room bath, the cuisine, and the overall atmosphere were all impeccable. It was a truly wonderful stay. As a couple who has visited many Onsen Ryokan over the years, we felt this Ryokan strikes an excellent balance—never excessive, never lacking. Next time we’d like to bring our daughter as well, and we also hope to return as a couple. I hesitated between wanting to recommend it and not wanting it to become so well-known that Reservations are hard to get—but in the end, I wanted more people to know about this exceptional Kokin. The beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from Room 301 in the morning will be an unforgettable memory.

I stayed on the second floor of the accommodation. The room was spacious and beautifully designed, and I enjoyed the onsen and sauna. During the cold season, having an indoor onsen is especially appreciated. Additionally, there was a large public bath on the second floor, which was very convenient. Dinner was French cuisine—simple yet delicious, highlighting fresh ingredients. Breakfast was Japanese-style, healthy, tasty, and very satisfying. The service was excellent as well. There were goats in the garden that were adorable when fed. I would love to stay here again!

The meals at this accommodation are absolutely delicious. Every dish is meticulously prepared, with perfect combinations of ingredients, homemade sauces and desserts, and stunning presentation. Each bite was a unique experience, unlike anything I've ever tasted before—it was truly the best food I've had in my life. While the hospitality-focused service is evident, it felt a bit excessive for us personally. To fully enjoy the extraordinary experience, we would have preferred a little more space. That said, we appreciated being asked about refilling the free drinks.

Blissful Time ~ GoatoHeaven
This was my second visit at the end of the year. The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was even better than before, and the cuisine—both in creativity and flavor—was full of surprises and truly moving. The wood-fired dishes were outstanding. I also enjoyed the wine pairing, and had wonderful conversations with the staff. I was captivated by the pure white Mt. Fuji view from my Room, and I used the sauna and Onsen many times—both mind and body felt completely refreshed. The three goats have grown even more adorable over the past year, each with their own unique personality. You can really tell they’ve been raised with so much love by the staff. They’re as friendly as dogs—you can pet them as much as you like—and it’s also charming to see them slip through the fence and stretch their necks like giraffes to munch on feed. Truly animal therapy. I went to see them many times during my stay. I’d love to stay here at Cocon again this year at year-end as well. Thank you always, and I look forward to returning for many years to come.

Gourmet cuisine, heartfelt hospitality, and relaxation with friendly goats.
This stay once again exceeded our expectations. One of the highlights is the natural yet attentive hospitality of the staff, ensuring guests feel at ease from arrival to departure. Although it was unfortunately rainy this time, the large windows in the room offer a stunning view of Mount Fuji beyond Hakone's outer mountains. With a separate bedroom, you can relax and unwind in the spacious living area. Additionally, enjoying Owakudani Onsen and sauna in your room at any time is one of its unique charms. Dinner featured modern French cuisine crafted by Chef Yokoyama, showcasing his exceptional creativity. For Christmas, dishes were beautifully presented with red, white, and green colors that delighted both our eyes and palate with seasonal flavors. Each dish highlighted its ingredients' natural essence with deep aromas and flavors while leaving a refreshing aftertaste—allowing us to indulge without feeling heavy even after multiple courses. The anago sushi prepared as a late-night snack was another masterpiece reflecting meticulous craftsmanship. We always look forward to wine pairings that complement each meal perfectly; this time included rare French selections like Meursault and Gevrey-Chambertin along with dessert wines—all absolutely delightful! Thank you for such an exquisite experience. Breakfast was equally outstanding—carefully prepared using premium ingredients—and featured luxurious "Tai-meshi" (offered during your third stay). Despite usually eating lightly in the morning, we enjoyed every bite of both side dishes and Tai-meshi. Not to be forgotten are the three goats (Oribe, Kohaku & Sora), whose growth we eagerly anticipate on each visit—a charming part of our stay that makes us look forward to returning again soon. With thoughtful attention to detail and exceptional cuisine throughout our visit—it has become an irreplaceable retreat where my spouse & I can escape daily life completely!
