    My favorite place around Lake Biwa

    I love Hotels and have stayed at many around Lake Biwa, but this is my favorite so far. It’s often fully booked and I can’t make a Reservation, which is disappointing. While I’m still able to drive, I’d like to visit as often as possible. As someone who is shy around strangers, I’m not very comfortable when staff speak to me frequently. Please remember that there are guests like me too.

    Indulge in Luxury

    Second stay. I love the top-floor lounge. Just enjoying draft beer and snacks while gazing out over Lake Biwa right in front of me is so refreshing—I lose track of time. Both the indoor and outdoor Onsen let you soak while looking out at Lake Biwa, which makes me very happy. The Onsen is clean and well stocked with amenities, and I was very satisfied. The spacious post-bath area is also wonderful, and the complimentary drinks are healthy and nice. The Room is spacious and excellent. The staff who guided us to our Room (cart service and dinner) were very friendly, which was great. At breakfast, the staff were friendly during my previous stay—both the person grilling fish and the person guiding guests—but this time they were not friendly at all, which was a noticeable difference. Because it’s my favorite Hotel, I’ve already made my next Reservation.

    We brought our dog with us. The Room was spacious, clean, and well maintained. We also enjoyed the dog run. For dinner, we chose a BBQ on the terrace, and there was so much food we couldn’t finish it—we were completely full. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide variety of options, and everything was delicious. We found two centipedes on the terrace the next morning. There was insect spray provided, so we used it, but they hid. The staff were kind and helpful, and they took photos for us when we checked out. The large public bath had a great view, and the hot spring water quality was excellent. We’d love to visit again in a different season.

    In my husband’s birthday month

    Lake Biwa stretched across the entire window, and when we stepped out onto the terrace, we could even see Hikone Castle that we had visited during the day. On our way to the dinner venue, we were also able to enjoy the beautiful sight of the sun setting over Lake Biwa. The meal was made with fresh local ingredients and dishes that reflected the region’s food culture; everything was beautifully presented and delicious. When making our Reservation, I mentioned that this trip was during my husband’s birthday month, so a message was written on the dessert plate, and staff came by to greet us at both dinner and breakfast. They also took a commemorative photo for us and added a warm message. We were extremely satisfied with the clean Room, the view from the large public bath, the excellent food, and wonderful hospitality. The free drinks in the lounge, welcome dessert, amenities in the large public bath, and plenty of towels were all well prepared—this Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. On departure day they took another commemorative photo in front of the Hotel and provided Shuttle Service to Maibara Station, allowing us to start our second day smoothly and fully enjoy our trip in Shiga. Thank you very much.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    The property was clean and easy to use overall, and the service was polite and excellent. We also enjoyed using the lounge on the 10th floor and the post-bath salon, both of which were very comfortable. Dinner in particular was delicious. Although we were told it was fully booked that day, it never felt crowded or noisy, and we were able to relax. We would like to stay again.

    Everything you could ask for.

    Although we had a few issues—like not being able to get through by phone, and pre-check-in not making things especially smoother (lol)—we were able to relax and take it easy. The food was delicious as well. The funazushi with honey was a surprising flavor twist, and truly impressive. The breakfast buffet also featured grilled fish scraps, something you rarely get to try elsewhere. All of the staff were friendly and fun. Even when service is polite, it can sometimes feel overly formal and businesslike, but that wasn’t the case here—we ended up chatting away (lol). It’s an Accommodation we’d love to stay at again. Thank you very much for all your thoughtful hospitality.

    Staying with Your Pet (Dog)

    This time, I stayed for one night at a dog-friendly villa with my wife and our dog (with two meals included). The in-Room dining was plentiful (seafood for dinner and a buffet breakfast), and the view from the large public bath was so great that you could overlook Lake Biwa, which made us very satisfied. Next time, we’re looking forward to staying at a dog-friendly villa with an open-air Onsen bath. Thank you again.

    We were extremely satisfied!

    This was our first stay. The Facility was clean, the staff were very polite and welcoming, and the food was delicious—we were extremely satisfied. As soon as we arrived, our family said we’d love to come every year! Our dog is elderly, so we regret not coming sooner, but we will definitely visit again. We’ll recommend it to our friends as well!     This is my third stay!

    We visit once a year as a couple. Although we are just one of many guests, the manager and head chef kindly spoke to us at dinner, and each staff member greeted us with “Thank you for staying with us for the third time.” We truly felt the Hotel’s dedication. Dinner never disappoints—creative dishes that make excellent use of local ingredients, and we were completely satisfied. The room was impeccably clean, and we were especially happy to find a face mask among the amenities. Hotel rooms tend to be dry even with a humidifier, so I usually carry masks when traveling; this thoughtful touch meant a lot. The breakfast buffet also adds small new items each time we visit, and both Japanese and Western options are delicious. We can enjoy a relaxed meal while looking out at the greenery in the garden. The select shop on the 10th floor is also wonderful, with unique items you wouldn’t typically find in an ordinary souvenir store—it's fun just to browse. We plan to return in autumn.

    We stayed here for Mother’s Day. From the guest room, lobby, and bath area, we enjoyed a panoramic view of Lake Biwa, and the Facility was clean, the service was excellent, and the staff were kind. We had a wonderful time. We would definitely like to stay again.

    Stayed for one night with our dog. The Room was great, the large public bath was excellent, and above all, every staff member’s service was outstanding—we truly had a very comfortable stay. We travel with our dog often, but this was the first place we’ve seen that offers dog stroller rentals, which we really appreciated. We made wonderful memories and are very grateful.     This is a wonderful Hotel.

    Not only were the Facility amenities excellent, but the hospitality of all the staff, the manager’s character, and even the chef’s thoughtful consideration were outstanding. Thanks to all of this, we were able to spend a truly comfortable time. During our meal, we had placed a memorial photo on the table, and the chef kindly prepared food and drinks in front of it in sympathy with our feelings. We were deeply moved by such warm thoughtfulness. We would love to stay here again.

    I was pleasantly surprised by the attentive service from check-in to check-out. In the lounge as well, a young Nepali woman served us with great dedication, and I was impressed by how well the staff are trained.     Allow me to say this.

    On this trip, my wife and I traveled for 4 nights and 5 days, staying at different hotels along the route from Lake Hamana to Hikone and Mikata Five Lakes, then from Hikone to Hakone.\nAmong them, Ao no Kotei was especially wonderful—we were able to spend a very pleasant time with the Room, service, and meals all being excellent. If we visit again, this Hotel would be our top choice.\nThank you very much.

    A wonderful villa with an Onsen where you can stay with your dog

    My husband, daughter, and our three dogs stayed here. It was the Biwafront we had been looking for—new, spotless, delicious food, and an Onsen we could enjoy while staying with our dogs. Even before we arrived at the entrance, the staff were waving to welcome us, and that was the start of a wonderful experience. This time, since we were traveling with three dogs, we made a Reservation for a dog villa with a private Onsen. Our dogs had one first-time experience after another—we could spend time together in the lounge using pet-only transportation, and they loved running around in the dog run. Dinner was also excellent; the Omi beef was delicious. At check-out it was raining, so they kindly drove us to the parking lot in a different vehicle than on arrival so we wouldn’t get wet on the way back to the villa. Their attentive service continued right to the very end. My daughter said she’d like shabu-shabu at the villa next time—and that she wants to come again with our dogs. To all of the staff, thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

    We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and my retirement. The guest room, meals, and open-air bath were all extremely satisfying. Above all, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding, and their smiles and kindness were truly soothing for both of us. Thanks to you, it became a wonderful commemorative trip we will always remember. If we have the chance, we would love to stay in a villa with our family next time. Thank you very much.

    The view is simply breathtaking.

    The views are amazing from everywhere— the lobby, the corridors, the large public bath, and the top-floor lounge!! The open-air bath in the Room is quite small. Half of the balcony is set up with chairs and a table as a space to enjoy the view. The sound of the waves is close by and very soothing. The interior is spacious, with a stylish sofa, and the coffee was very delicious. Also, the serum among the amenities was incredibly good—I wanted to buy it, but it doesn’t seem to be for sale, which was disappointing. This is the first time I’ve ever liked an amenity enough to want to purchase it! The ground-floor option with a private garden where you can stay with your dog might be the best—highly recommended. The shared bath area is small, but cleverly designed, and above all, the view feels wonderfully refreshing. The water itself is ordinary; as an Onsen lover it wasn’t quite enough for me, but I was satisfied thanks to how great the view was. The post-bath lounge and the free space on the top floor offer excellent services—please make sure to use them! As for hospitality and food, Yumotokan on Lake Biwa’s west side was better. Here, the morning restaurant staff worked hard and were great, but at checkout time the front desk felt cold; thankfully, our dedicated shuttle bus driver cheerfully saw us off. Both Yumotokan and this property featured plenty of Omi beef dishes, but Yumotokan was unbelievably delicious—so in comparison this one felt like it could use a bit more creativity and contrast. Still, I thought it was admirable that even the head chef came around to greet guests.

    It was a very nice Hotel with a wonderful view.

    It seemed almost fully booked, yet it never felt crowded, and the staff were courteous and friendly. Both the bathrooms and the lounge were cleaned frequently, so everything was spotless and comfortable. The meals weren’t large in portion size, but they were well explained and very enjoyable. As mentioned in other Reviews, the view was wonderful. The bedding was comfortable, and I slept soundly. I can see why it’s so popular with many repeat guests.

    A Spring Trip to Enjoy Hikone and Lake Biwa

    This was my second stay. The location is outstanding, and the views are truly breathtaking. The entire Accommodation is beautiful and calming, and the meals enjoyed in that atmosphere were just as delicious as last time. I would appreciate it even more if there were an option to choose French cuisine as well. All of the staff spoke to us in a natural, friendly way, making our stay very comfortable. It’s not too far from where I live, so it’s easy to visit. I will definitely return.

    A Room Where You Can Stay with Your Dog, Featuring an Open-Air Bath

    This was our first stay here, and we’ve stayed at several places where we could bring our dog, but this was the most relaxing for our dog! We had a BBQ meal in the Room’s garden, and it was delicious. All the staff were kind and attentive, and the Room was very clean. We’d like to make this our go-to place. However, the indoor slippers were very thin, the vanity light was dim, and it was inconvenient not to have a magnifying mirror.

    We had a comfortable stay.

    This Hotel has a large staff, and everyone was attentive and spoke to us kindly, making for a very comfortable stay with nothing lacking. The furnishings throughout the property and in the Room felt luxurious, were kept clean, and were very pleasant. The lounge in particular not only has great views, but also always has snacks and drinks available, making it very convenient. It became my favorite place to relax after coming back from outings. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, so I enjoyed it even on two consecutive days. On the first night, dinner was just the right amount; the Japanese-Western fusion menu was delicious across the board. I also appreciated the late-night udon. On the second night, the meal leaned more toward Japanese cuisine and there were too many dishes for me to finish. I ended up too full to have the late-night udon as well, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, I had a very positive impression, and I would like to stay here again when visiting Lake Biwa.

    Terrible service.

    Terrible service. Several staff members who seemed like inexperienced newcomers and were hard to understand greeted us, making the arrival unpleasant from the start. Even though we had sent the documents in advance, they tried to make us fill out information again during check-in—if that was necessary, there was no point in sending them beforehand. At breakfast, an employee placed plates on top of the food without concern. Even after pointing it out, they did not make eye contact and offered no apology. An unpleasant Facility from beginning to end. The manager gave off the impression that apologizing would solve everything. Guests pay high rates and spend their time traveling here to enjoy an escape from everyday life, but staying at this Facility ended up wasting our precious holiday. Staff training is clearly inadequate, and it is unbelievable that such employees are put in front of guests. The female restaurant staff were neither friendly nor smiling. Being served by staff like that only leaves guests feeling uncomfortable. It was the worst 2-day, 1-night stay in every respect.

    We were very satisfied.

    As it is in its third year since opening, the Accommodation felt very new. With an 11:00 checkout, unlike a large-scale Hotel, it had a calm atmosphere and allowed us to relax at a leisurely pace. There was also an Onsen we hadn’t expected, and the open-air bath—with 1 meter of water depth—was amazing, as we could enjoy views of Lake Biwa while seated. Both the meals and the staff were kind, and I would like to stay again when I’m in the area.

    It was really great!

    We stayed here for our wedding anniversary! It was rainy that day, so we couldn’t see much of the view, but the food was delicious and we ended up eating too much. We used both the in-Room bath and the large public bath many times, and it was truly wonderful. At first we thought it might be a bit pricey, but even so, we’d love to come again. We’re thinking of coming here every year for our wedding anniversary!

    It was perfect!

    - The building was new and felt very pleasant. - Right in front of us was Lake Biwa, and the sunset view from the Room was outstanding. We could also see Hikone Castle—an unbeatable location. - The bath had a standing-style open-air bath that made it look as if Lake Biwa and the open-air bath were seamlessly connected. The water temperature was just right, with a gentle feel on the skin—truly relaxing. - The meals were wonderful both to look at and to eat, and the portions were just right—I was happy to finish everything (often, even when food is delicious, I find overly large portions tiring). There were many creative dishes I’d never tried before, which made me excited for each course. The ingredients were high quality, and it was clear they focus on local production for local consumption. My spouse and I both agreed: we want to come back just to eat here again (especially because the after-meal coffee was unbelievably good). - This is an Accommodation we’d like to return to every year. Above all, every staff member offered thoughtful hospitality in a natural way, always adding their own warm words during conversation, which made us feel at ease. - On the top floor, there was a drink service with various alcoholic beverages and soft drinks while watching the sunset. I enjoyed sparkling wine and macarons (it seemed the selection of alcohol changed depending on the time). Personally, this has become the Accommodation that comes to mind first whenever I want to soak in a bath at leisure and enjoy delicious food. Highly recommended!

    It was a luxurious stay.

    On a whim, I decided I wanted to see the sunset over Lake Biwa and found this Hotel. I was traveling solo, but it was easy to get to Maibara, Nagahama, Hikone, and Omihachiman, so sightseeing was effortless. Needless to say, the view from my Room was wonderful, and spending time in the 10th-floor lounge enjoying a drink while looking out over Lake Biwa was the highlight of my stay. The meals were delicious—especially the breakfast rice porridge and heshiko ochazuke; I even went back for seconds. In the post-bath lounge, they had novels by one of my favorite authors. Since no one else was there, I could relax and read quietly after my bath. It truly felt like a luxurious solo trip. I also appreciated the warm and pleasant service from all the staff. I’d love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much.
