    Stunning View

    I decided to stay after falling in love at first sight with the images of Room 301 on IKYU.com. The breathtaking view of the ocean from both the bed and the bath was stunning, and since it wasn’t an Onsen, I could enjoy a long soak without feeling fatigued. The meals were delightful, featuring plenty of fresh local seafood for both dinner and breakfast. The lounge service was excellent, and I used it several times during my stay. However, one minor inconvenience was that as a renovated accommodation, the room, large public bath, front desk, and lounge are all in separate buildings, making moving around a bit troublesome. On that day it was hot and started raining midway through my stay; plus my room was on the third floor accessible only by stairs—this made me feel it even more. That said, this is such a charming accommodation utilizing an old building beautifully; you just have to embrace these aspects as part of its charm! I’d love to visit again in another season.     Arrive and enjoy the sea breeze on the terrace while gazing at Wakasa Bay. Refresh yourself with a drink from Lounge Nagi and feel a touch of sentimentality as you think, "Ah, I’ve truly come on a journey." Once relaxed, head to the bath. With it being private-use time, immerse yourself fully in the warm water while admiring Wakasa Bay through the glass—it feels almost as if you’ve become one with it. With both body and mind rejuvenated, proceed to dinner. Starting with corn tofu followed by clear soup with fish cake dumplings and squid served on hot stones—each dish is an exquisite creation crafted by our chef. Pair these delicacies with limited-edition sake like "Yusho" or "Gekko," which naturally complement each bite. The shabu-shabu hot pot featuring Wakasa beef is so tender it melts in your mouth; bamboo shoot rice leaves you satisfyingly full before finishing off with dessert. Contented both physically and emotionally, fall into a deep sleep for the night. Upon waking up, head straight for another bath where you're embraced by Wakasa Bay’s morning light—stretching out your arms and legs fills you gradually with energy. Then comes breakfast: savor local specialties such as grilled Wakasa flounder, handmade side dishes, fresh greens from Obama City’s farms paired perfectly with Matsunaga's Koshihikari rice or seaweed from Obama City itself—all leaving you feeling refreshed inside out.     In a room overlooking the serene Wakasa Bay and beautiful mountain ranges, I was able to forget daily life and enjoy a very peaceful time. You can take a walk on the sandy beach right in front of the accommodation, soak in the bath while gazing at Wakasa Bay, or watch the sunrise from your room, feeling close to nature and finding true relaxation. The highlight was undoubtedly the delicious cuisine. Fresh seafood, vegetables, Wakasa beef, and freshly cooked Koshihikari rice allowed me to fully savor Fukui's seasonal ingredients to my heart's content. The presentation was exquisite, with carefully selected tableware adding an extra touch of elegance. Echizen lacquerware and chopsticks adorned with mother-of-pearl were subtly used, making it enjoyable not only for the food but also for anticipating what kind of dishware would come next. What impressed me most was the hospitality of all staff members. Their attentive care could be felt everywhere. Although this was a solo trip for me, they kindly engaged in friendly conversations during my stay and shared many recommendations for sightseeing spots as well as local insights that only residents would know—something I truly appreciated.     It was a wonderful anniversary.

    We chose this accommodation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The view from Room 301 was amazing, and the food portions were just right and delicious. However, we found it slightly inconvenient that the sink was located in the middle of the bedroom rather than in the bathroom. Additionally, there were no chairs or mirrors, so for a room of this rank, it would be nice to have a dedicated space with a mirror for makeup. Also, since there is no phone in the room, contacting the front desk requires scanning a QR code with your smartphone to use a chat system. For those who are not comfortable using smartphones, having to go down three flights of stairs to reach the front desk might be inconvenient. I came across an ad on Facebook and made my reservation through it (considering that Facebook users may not always be very young), so I thought these points might be worth noting here. Other than that, including staff service, this was an absolutely wonderful accommodation!

While browsing IKYU.com, I stumbled upon "Wakasa Kabi no Yado." I instinctively clicked the reservation button and chose the Wakasa Guji course after a quick glance. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted at the parking lot, where our luggage was promptly taken care of. We were guided through the facility and completed check-in smoothly. The accommodation had been renovated, maintaining a calm atmosphere while offering modern convenience throughout. Our room in the main building was likely in one of the most convenient locations with easy access to everything. Despite its convenience, being a smaller-scale accommodation meant it remained quiet and peaceful. The private terrace attached to our room offered an exclusive spot to enjoy serene sunsets over Wakasa Bay in the evening, moonlit skies at night, and refreshing morning air—truly a hidden gem. The bath area was clean with uniquely designed tubs where we soaked while gazing out at the sea view. Afterward, we enjoyed beer from the lounge on its terrace—a perfect way to unwind without overindulging before dinner. Dinner was served as we watched dusk transition into night over tranquil bay views—a beautifully curated kaiseki meal paired perfectly with sake for each dish. The selected Wakasa Guji course exceeded expectations; it’s rare to savor such high-quality guji fish so thoroughly—an absolute delight. Early morning began with a walk that worked up an appetite followed by another refreshing bath before breakfast.     Packed with the charms of Wakasa Obama

    I stayed in Room 301 of the annex. I had always wanted to visit after seeing it on social media, and I was finally able to go. As I imagined, the view of the calm Wakasa Bay from the room was stunning, and it was such a peaceful and wonderful place. I enjoyed snacks, free drinks, and ice cream at the lounge. For dinner, I chose the Wakasa beef course; both steak and shabu-shabu were tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture—absolutely delicious. For breakfast, I savored tomato juice, Wakasa flounder, heshiko (fermented fish), Fukui's Matsunaga Koshihikari rice cooked in an earthen pot—all made with carefully selected ingredients from Fukui Prefecture. Each dish was meticulously prepared and incredibly tasty. I heard that some items served at breakfast are sold at a nearby roadside station, so I bought them on my way home. The staff were very kind and accommodating—it made me so happy! All of the staff greeted us with smiles and made our stay very comfortable.     Great view. Completely satisfied with the hospitality, dining, environment, and service.

    I stayed in Room 201 for one night. I chose this accommodation to capture either the sunset or sunrise. Unfortunately, the sunset was in the opposite direction, but I was informed of the time and direction of the sunrise and managed to set up my camera. The beach right in front of the accommodation was almost private. With a variety of free drinks available in the lounge (including three types of local craft beer, sake, and other beverages—even ice cream), I enjoyed a relaxing time on the terrace overlooking the beach until dinner. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent—I even had three bowls of rice as seconds! The pairing with local sake during dinner was also delightful. The bathhouse in a separate building as well as the room's bath both offered relaxing moments with views of the bay. I also admired Wakasa lacquered chopsticks placed here and there throughout, which added a thoughtful touch. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this accommodation. Highly recommend this place along with Room 201!

    What left the deepest impression was the hospitality of the staff. From check-in to meals and even Shuttle Service, their heartfelt care allowed me to relax and enjoy my stay. The meals were also incredibly delicious. Not only the seafood but also other locally sourced ingredients tasted even better after hearing their stories. The location, where you can spend time gazing at Wakasa Bay and listening to the sound of waves, was perfect for a relaxing stay. Hearing about Obama’s charm from staff who are passionate about their local area made me want to visit again—and when I do, I would love to stay here once more. Lastly, thank you for upgrading my Room. I enjoyed a relaxing time while admiring Wakasa Bay through the large window in my Room.     A stylish Ryokan that perfectly blends modernity and retro charm. The view of Wakasa Bay from the Room is stunning, and you can even see the sea from the private bath in the Room.     We visited to enjoy a fugu kaiseki meal for a celebration. We were very satisfied with the delicious food and ate until we were full. After dinner, neither of us could move.     The ocean was beautifully visible right in front of the Room. I was able to spend a very relaxing time. For dinner, I was surprised by the amount of pufferfish and crab served, so much that I couldn't finish it all.     I stayed in Room 201 of the detached building, and the view was truly wonderful and soothing. The semi-open-air bath, being a ceramic bath, warmed up well, and it was pleasant to bathe while listening to the sound of the waves. Unfortunately, the weather didn't allow us to see the sunrise, but the landscape wrapped in morning mist was magical. The room has been beautifully renovated, but the main building's stairs, floorboards, and window frames still retain the charm of the old Ryokan, which was lovely. In the lounge, which was renovated from a storehouse, craft beer, local sake, and ice candies were offered, and we enjoyed them on the terrace with a view of the sea. The separate building's large bath was cozy, suitable for 2-3 people, but the view was great. The puffer fish course dinner and breakfast at the dining area were very delicious, focusing on local ingredients. The staff provided detailed explanations when serving, and I was moved by their love for the local area. During the return shuttle service, we stopped by a roadside station where I could purchase souvenirs. I wish I had bought more of the heshiko bagna cauda sauce as it was delicious (tears).     The meals were very delicious. We were very satisfied with both breakfast and dinner. The atmosphere of the lounge was also lovely. However, the large public bath was said to be an infinity bath, but it didn't feel that way, and overall it was cramped, with only two hairdryers, which was inconvenient. Additionally, since moving between the dining area, property, lounge, and large public bath requires traveling between facilities, it can be troublesome and difficult for the elderly, especially in winter or on rainy days.

    Good Stays

    Many of the employees are locals, and they were friendly and shared many stories about Obama. There is no TV in the room, but you can take drinks from the lounge, which is a renovated warehouse, and enjoy a relaxing time on the seaside terrace while listening to the sound of the waves. However, it might be tough during rain or severe winter. The hotel is divided into many buildings and blends in with the surrounding inns, so I got lost upon arrival, but a hotel staff member quickly came out to guide me.
