    An Accommodation I’d Love to Stay at Again

    I stayed here last year and had such a wonderful experience that I decided to return again this time. Once again, my expectations were fully met. I was satisfied with everything—the Room, the meals, and the service—and was able to enjoy a truly relaxing stay. I had dinner at the counter seats, and it was an especially luxurious moment to enjoy the meal while watching a beautiful sunset. The chef’s personality was also wonderful, and I had a great time chatting about various topics throughout the evening. Last time, there were sushi refills during dinner, so I assumed it would be the same concept this time as well. However, this time the menu was thoughtfully arranged in a different way. While there were no sushi refills, sushi was served several times between courses, which made for an enjoyable experience with a different style from last time. Every dish was delicious and highly satisfying. Overall, I felt comfortable throughout my stay and am very pleased. If I have another opportunity, I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much.

    Enjoy the stunning island scenery of the Ariake Sea, an open-air Onsen bath, and exceptional cuisine with a 3-night Multiple Night Stay.

    In late June, during our Kyushu trip while returning to Japan temporarily, we were truly well taken care of. We visited as a couple to say hello and reconnect, as the chef who had looked after us in Ginza for nearly 20 years is now serving as the head chef here, and we hoped to enjoy those familiar flavors again. We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of three nights in the top-floor (6th-floor) suite with an open-air bath, indoor bath, sauna, and cold plunge. The view from this Room was absolutely spectacular—overlooking not only the island-dotted beauty of the Ariake Sea, but also toward Amakusa and Shimabara, and even including the 5th bridge of the Amakusa Five Bridges (Matsushima Bridge). Because tidal changes in the Ariake Sea are especially dramatic, watching the sea surface transform with each tide was so beautiful that—even on rainy days—it felt like ink flowing across a sumi-e painting, making us lose track of time. The Room felt wonderfully open with an excellent layout flow, making it surprisingly easy to use and extremely comfortable. Both the open-air bath and indoor bath draw from the natural hot spring source of Amakusa Matsushima Onsen; the water is silky with very little irritation and felt wonderful on our skin. Throughout our stay we enjoyed it many times—morning, noon, evening, and even late at night. The complimentary ponkan and dekopon juices in our Room were delicious, and we enjoyed them every day along with our baths. Reuniting with the head chef for the first time in several years brought back a flood of long-held memories all at once—it felt like a reunion. Despite staying three nights in a row, we were delighted by how every single dish at both breakfast and dinner reflected careful craftsmanship filled with genuine care. Using abundant seasonal ingredients from Amakusa along with many creative touches inspired by local cuisine kept us captivated throughout—we savored every bite so much that we forgot about time itself. In addition, one of our favorite Kumamoto sake labels—hard to find in Tokyo—was on their list, so we enjoyed nearly one bottle per day. Breakfast drinks were also thoughtfully prepared—for example, their Amakusa bankan juice had an extra touch added by the head chef. The bright smiles of the younger staff members were full of motivation as well and made our entire stay feel wonderful. To everyone at “Amanojaku,” especially the head chef who created such an outstanding stay for us—thank you very much. We will definitely return whenever we visit Amakusa during future trips back to Japan. Finally—and respectfully—we extend our heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by damage from Reiwa 8’s Kumamoto earthquake. We understand that “Amanojaku” has not been impacted operationally; however these must still be unsettling days for many people. Please take good care of yourselves. We sincerely pray for a swift recovery for all affected areas.

    Despite the difficult circumstances following the earthquake, all of the staff continued to provide high-quality service with warm smiles. Thank you very much. I also thoroughly enjoyed the bath while being moved by the beauty of the sunset and the sea. We truly appreciated the anniversary surprise as well. We would love to stay again.

    The Best Dining and Sunsets

    This was our second stay, following our visit in April. The staff were exceptionally attentive, and everything—from the meals to the view from the Room and the bath—was wonderful. This time, we came specifically for the seasonal natural red sea urchin, and we truly enjoyed it. We would love to stay again. Thank you for your warm hospitality.

    Survey, sushi

    We were told that the gift program for completing the survey is not currently available. It was disappointing, as we gladly received one at Tenku no Fune where we stayed the previous day. We were impressed by how spacious the bathtub was. The Onsen temperature was maintained 24 hours a day, so we could enjoy it comfortably at any time. It was also disappointing that some sushi toppings ran out when we asked for seconds.

    I was able to relax very slowly.

    The Facility, service, and food were all wonderful overall. We were very satisfied. At mealtime, I believe we were assisted by someone named Mr./Ms. M-moto (my memory is a bit unclear, so I apologize if I’m mistaken). With such a warm smile and thoughtful attention, we felt truly relaxed. Both the food and the Room were excellent. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. We chose this Accommodation to celebrate our wedding anniversary and enjoy an ocean view, and it truly was the perfect choice. Starting with the male staff member who welcomed us, everyone was kind and courteous, making our stay very comfortable. We were soothed by the ocean view from our Room, and as we look back at the photos we took of the beautiful scenery and delicious meals, we are already looking forward to visiting again.     I’m glad I stayed here.

    This was my first trip to Kumamoto. I came because I really wanted to stay at Amanojaku. It was a long way from Kumamoto Airport, but I’m glad I made the trip. The Room was stylish, and the open-air bath with an infinity-like view from the Room was amazing. Since the scenery changes with the tides, choosing the right season is important. I also visited the large public bath next door (part of the same group), but honestly, the bath in my Room was more than enough. The meals were locally sourced and absolutely delicious. There was also a great selection of local sake, which I enjoyed very much. However, when I ordered red wine with the meat dish, it was served chilled, which was disappointing. If it’s as cold as red wine at a family restaurant, it really takes away from what should be a special stay at Amanojaku. It was also a shame that there wasn’t a sommelier. Breakfast had a wide variety of dishes and was very tasty as well. Everyone at the Hotel was very kind, and the service was excellent. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful time.

    The Best Day

    The hospitality from all the staff was outstanding, and the Room was comfortable and spotless. Every dish was delicious, and we truly enjoyed a luxurious time. The amenities were especially pleasing for women, and the hot spring water had a wonderfully silky quality... Now I understand why the Reviews are so highly rated.     We enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

    It was my first time in Amakusa, and we were lucky with the weather, enjoying a truly beautiful sunset at dinner. The food was excellent, and the spiny lobster was impressively large. The meat and sushi were also wonderful. The Room was easy to use, and I slept soundly at night. Breakfast was great as well—the rice was delicious and I finished everything. Being able to dine in a private room allowed us to relax, and both dinner and breakfast were very enjoyable. I would definitely like to visit again.

    Premium Adults-Only Getaway

    Even at Ryokan and Hotel properties considered top-tier, I usually find at least one thing to mark down after each stay—but Amanojaku was a perfect 100 out of 100. The refined facilities, including the views, and the outstanding quality of the meals go without saying. Beyond those visible touches of luxury, the hospitality is exceptional. Every request was anticipated one step ahead, with thoughtful attention and flawless service in every detail. It’s a shame that Amakusa isn’t somewhere I can visit often from where I live; if it were easier to reach, I’d come once a month. This was the ultimate relaxing getaway for adults—immersed in tranquility and true quality. Thank you very much.

    Golden Week Couple’s Trip

    We stayed here for a 2-night, 3-day couples’ trip during Golden Week. The Room’s color scheme, interior design, and appliances were exactly to our taste. The semi-open-air bath was beautifully designed, and since I love Onsen so much, I ended up bathing more than 10 times during our stay. We were truly impressed by the beautiful views of Amakusa, the meals made with local ingredients, and the warm hospitality of all the staff. We would definitely like to stay again.

    This Accommodation is definitely in my top three places I’d like to stay again.

    My spouse and I stayed here recently. Unfortunately, it rained and the spectacular view was hazy, but being able to soak at leisure in the semi-open-air bath while looking out over the sea and islands of Amakusa is truly a luxury. Next time, I hope to enjoy Amakusa’s scenery in clear weather. The meals were just as described in the Reviews—carefully prepared dishes using plenty of fresh seafood and vegetables—and since I don’t eat much, I was full after about half (what a waste!). Breakfast was also a “full course.” As someone who values breakfast most during the day, I was genuinely grateful and impressed. The only reason I deducted one star was that there was no explanation that the stylish towel rack can be used as a dryer when switched on (I found out later from my daughter), nor how to turn it on, and there was no makeup remover among the amenities. It’s not a major issue, so overall I can see why this place is rated so highly. Thank you very much for your hospitality. We will visit again.

    I visited again for the first time in a year.

    The Onsen was always at the perfect temperature—wonderful. My skin felt incredibly smooth afterward. The Molton Brown amenities always lift my spirits every time. The cuisine was completely different from a year ago, and everything was outstanding. It was exactly to our taste. When we asked for lighter seasoning, it was adjusted perfectly and truly delicious. Thank you for accommodating our requests—we were very satisfied. Please pass our compliments on to the head chef. All of the staff were excellent as well, and we had a very comfortable stay overall. We were extremely satisfied, but if possible in the future, we would like to share a few suggestions: 1) The orangette served with the welcome drink was so delicious that we would love for it to be available for purchase. 2) The bed and pillows are quite firm, so I woke up several times during the night. In the morning my whole body hurt, and my neck and shoulders felt stiff as well. We would prefer slightly softer options. 3) The morning coffee had a strong acidity, which was disappointing. We would appreciate a lighter coffee in the morning. Since there is already a wide selection of drinks available, please consider offering more types of coffee as well. 4) There was a Molton Brown set available to take home among the amenities, but since we cannot obtain the pump bottles provided in-room elsewhere, we would really appreciate it if you could consider making them available for purchase. It was a very satisfying trip, and we will definitely visit again.

    This was not my firs...

    This was not my first stay, and while the dinner seemed to have slightly different seasoning than before, it was still satisfying. However, breakfast felt like it simply offered many items without conveying the chef’s intention or care, and I couldn’t tell what they wanted guests to savor. The presentation was photogenic, but there were hardly any dishes that left a lasting impression. The rice cooked in a clay pot was also a bit firm and lacked much of the rice’s natural aroma, so overall the meals were disappointing for a Ryokan of this class.

    A luxurious space, but the food was somewhat disappointing.

    During this stay, what impressed me most first was how wonderful the Room was. The Room was extremely spacious, and having Onsen baths both indoors and outdoors, as well as a sauna, made it a luxurious and comfortable space. There were more than enough towels provided, so it was great to be able to use fresh ones comfortably no matter how many times I enjoyed the Onsen. The amenities were also well stocked, and I could feel the thoughtful attention to detail. On the other hand, there is a step up into the bed area, which felt a bit hazardous at times—especially when going to the restroom at night—so improving this would make the stay feel even safer. Also, given that this is a suite intended for two or more guests, I felt it would be even more comfortable if items such as shower fixtures and wash basins were provided in pairs. As for the food, there were a few points that stood out. Overall, many of the dishes were elaborate and showed creativity and effort; however, I felt that simpler preparations that highlight the natural quality of each ingredient might make them even more appealing. For example, spiny lobster sashimi was served with sakura jelly; since it is delicious on its own, it felt slightly overworked. The fried kuruma prawn was also prepared in a sakura-mochi style; I think it would have been better enjoyed in a simpler style such as plain deep-frying. The apple sencha tea also could have been simpler so that the tea’s natural flavor came through more clearly. The simmered wagyu beef was slightly dry; using a fattier cut might increase satisfaction. Overall seasoning also felt somewhat strong. At breakfast, the saikyo-yaki grilled sea bream also seemed a bit dry. It was somewhat disappointing that the wine selection focused mainly on international labels; since we are in Japan, having more wines from domestic wineries would further enhance harmony with local ingredients. On the other hand, the uni nigiri sushi was excellent and very memorable. Overall, while the Facility itself is outstanding, opinions may be divided when it comes to the food.

    Luxury Travel

    I stayed in a suite Room. It was my first time staying at such an expensive Hotel. Simply put, everything was outstanding. The Room was wonderfully spacious, and it even had an indoor bath, an open-air bath, a sauna, and a cold plunge right in the guest room, so I could relax and fully enjoy it. Both breakfast and dinner featured many dishes made with local ingredients, and everything was fresh and delicious. Since I don’t like wasabi, I mentioned it and they served medium fatty tuna instead. Refills were also available—I ordered the takana roll twice, and it was so good I felt like I could eat it endlessly. If I have the time and money again, I’d love to stay here again!

    This is my favorite Hotel.

    As this was our first time staying in a twin Room, the bathroom at night seemed a bit dark for an elderly person. However, all the staff were very kind, and they even went outside to take photos of the sunset for us. We are grateful for the surprise birthday plate. It became a wonderful memory. We will stay again.

    It’s a wonderful Hotel.

    It was a wonderful Hotel from start to finish. That first welcome really sets the tone for your stay, doesn’t it? Everything—from check-in and the welcome drink to the guidance and meals—was thoughtfully staged. When we were shown to our Room, they opened the curtains to reveal an ocean view, and the dining experience and sunset highlights were perfectly timed. We had our meal at the counter. It was delicious. The Room was lovely, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Above all, the open-air bath was amazing... Soaking while looking out at the sea... it made me forget everyday life... I want to go in again. Everything in the fridge was free, and even the amenities made me say “Wow.” Please do go if you can.

    It was an even more ...

    It was an even more wonderful stay than I imagined. We stayed in a suite, and everything was special—truly moving. It’s an open-plan one-room layout with no partitions. The bedroom and living area are loosely connected by a bar counter, creating a huge space. Beyond that is a spacious terrace, and beyond that—the sea… The sense of openness feels endless. And on top of that, being able to slide all six glass doors fully away was unbelievably refreshing. The clever design that hides the stacked frames when opened—by extending the wall slightly—was brilliant. Applause to the designer. From the terrace, you can look down on a beautiful emerald-green sea reminiscent of the Adriatic, and it had me absolutely thrilled. The food was also surprisingly delicious. Both dinner and breakfast let us fully enjoy Amakusa’s abundant ingredients. Being able to have sushi for dinner at this Accommodation was the best. One night isn’t enough—next time I want to come for a Multiple Night Stay and simply relax in the Room all day long. Thank you very much.

    The perfect accommodation!

    This Accommodation is very popular, so it can be difficult to secure a Reservation. The views from the Room and restaurant are stunning, and the sunset sinking into the sea at dinner was unforgettable. The Room was stylish, and the bathtub was spacious and relaxing. The food was excellent, and the warm hospitality made dining truly enjoyable. The sushi was delicious! You can tell the owner has carefully studied what guests want and reflected it throughout. This is genuinely a wonderful Accommodation—no exaggeration.

    Scenic Counter Seating

    This was my first stay, and I was truly impressed by this highly refined Accommodation—from the thoughtfully detailed interior to the excellent complimentary drinks. In particular, the semi-open-air window that opens like gullwing doors looked incredibly stylish and beautifully designed. I had felt a little uneasy after reading some Reviews beforehand, but it turned out to be a wonderful stay that exceeded my expectations in the best way. Being able to enjoy my favorite sushi at a counter with breathtaking views is priceless to me. Along with the staff’s attentive service, I was also deeply impressed by the chef’s humble character and by how earnestly the younger team members worked. I would love to visit again.

    I was truly delighte...

    I was truly delighted to stay at this Accommodation I had long admired. We were blessed with clear weather and were able to fully enjoy the scenery of Amakusa. The sweets served with the welcome drink were delicious, and when I asked if they were available for purchase, I was told they were original. Thank you very much for kindly giving some as a gift for my daughter at check-out. This trip also celebrated my daughter’s promotion, so it became a wonderful memory for us.
