    The Yunessun package requires proper cold weather gear!

    The accommodation was new and clean. The meals were buffet-style with a wide variety, and except for the limited selection of fruits, it was quite good. However, compared to dinner time, the breakfast staff seemed less cheerful. Additionally, there was a device on the 2nd floor where children could freely draw on a projection screen. They loved it and were very engaged in drawing. However, although the operating hours were listed as 7am–8pm, it wasn't turned on even close to 9am in the morning, prompting children to ask for assistance. The Yunessun package was enjoyable; while indoor areas were fine, moving between some Onsen baths (e.g., scenic open-air baths) felt too cold during early November. Proper warm clothing for transfers is absolutely necessary!

    Positive Points The room was clean. The bed was spacious, and the mattress was comfortable, allowing for a good night's sleep. The broth served with the hitsumabushi at dinner was delicious. The clam miso soup at breakfast was tasty. Being able to drink alcohol from breakfast was a nice touch. The large public bath (men's only) had few users on weekdays, making it comfortable to use. Negative Points Front desk operations were poor. Only one type of sake available. After 8 PM, the facility felt lacking with nothing to do (no card games or other items available for rent). The illumination wasn't worth going out of your way for; the path was dark and unsafe (some bulbs seemed dim or not working properly due to low voltage, and there were uneven sidewalks with tree roots causing tripping hazards—my wife almost fell). Overall Impression: This is not a place for couples looking to relax but more suited for families with children; it feels more like a leisure facility than an accommodation meant for relaxation. However, even as a leisure spot, activities are limited—once Yunessun closes, there's nothing else to do here. Customer service lacked warmth and felt overly systematic. The most striking example of this occurred during check-in: after receiving our numbered ticket and being called over by staff members, we approached only to be ignored completely despite holding out our ticket and making eye contact with them—it left us speechless. Apparently, they were calling two groups simultaneously but had only one staff member handling both calls—and since we had the later number in line—we were ignored without any explanation or acknowledgment such as "We will assist earlier numbers first; please wait." This simple communication could have made all the difference. We've stayed at many accommodations before but have never experienced being blatantly ignored like this—it ruined everything from that point onward. If you're going halfway into implementing systematic processes like this but can't manage basic customer service standards properly—then just display numbers on an electronic board or make announcements so guests can check in themselves via terminals instead! By checkout time I held faint hope that someone might say something considerate—but all we got from reception were two phrases: "Please use the terminal for checkout" and "Insert your room card into the terminal." If that's all they're going to say—a robot could easily replace them! Even their "Thank you for staying" message appeared solely on-screen via terminal display... leaving us feeling utterly disappointed until the very end!

    50 years ago, our family used to visit Kowakien every year, and this time my sister and I stayed there together. I remember enjoying the 2-meter-deep pool back then and seeing foreign guests relaxing by the poolside. It has been such a long time since our last visit, but everything from the Room to the meals and the large public bath was wonderful. My sister and I are already talking about wanting to come back again. Thank you very much!

    Perfect for family trips.

    Ideal for family trips with young children. The new Facility is clean and includes free access to Kowakien Renaissance, which children will enjoy. The Facility offers spaces designed to keep children entertained, and the buffet is delicious. Drinks, including alcohol, are free during meals, which is a great feature. The beer is served with an automatic foam adjustment system, ensuring a perfect taste. Although I visited on a weekday, breakfast was quite crowded. However, you can check your turn from your Room or other areas after registering, which is convenient. Still, some may feel that the waiting time is a bit long. Room prepayment is available, but it would be better to have a dedicated box or machine for prepaid guests at the front desk. Currently, front desk staff still need to confirm payments, which somewhat diminishes the convenience of prepayment. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

    This was my first visit since the renovation, and I was very satisfied. The Facility and meals were worth the price or even exceeded expectations. Various events were also enjoyable.

    Family-Friendly & Yunessun Focused

    Stayed with kids to create lasting summer vacation memories. Having stayed at the old Kowakien before, the price difference now reflects the changing times. The unlimited access to Yunessun, even before check-in and after check-out, makes this accommodation ideal for guests planning to enjoy Yunessun. While I won't go into details for security reasons, the distribution method of Yunessun tickets seemed a bit lax, which was slightly concerning. The room was standard but relatively new and well-designed. We were lucky to have a room with a view of Lantern Night and enjoyed it from there; on regular days, you can see Hakone's mountains from the room. The public bath is quite modest—likely because most guests prioritize using Yunessun—but it does offer views of Hakone's mountains and stars from the open-air bath. Dinner and breakfast were impressive with an extensive variety of dishes, including a dedicated kids' corner that was very convenient for families with children. While IKYU.com reviews tend to evaluate specific aspects like rooms or services separately (which may lower overall ratings), our overall satisfaction was high. However, if you're not traveling with children, this accommodation might not be ideal as most services cater specifically to families with kids.

    Kids' Paradise

    My almost 5-year-old grandchild had an amazing time. Although I was initially concerned about the hygiene due to the crowds at Yunessun, my grandchild was more excited than I’ve ever seen before! Beyond the pools, there were plenty of attractions that delighted children, and the kind hospitality of the staff was truly touching. The dinner buffet offered a wide variety of high-quality dishes. My grandchild especially loved indulging in unlimited servings of their favorite "shaka-shaka" fries with great excitement. We decided to let them enjoy as much as they wanted without worrying about eating vegetables or meat for once! Meanwhile, adults enjoyed unlimited drinks during this time. The Onsen had excellent water quality and was very clean; we thoroughly enjoyed both Mori no Yu and Shinyu at a leisurely pace. We look forward to visiting again in another season with everyone together. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality this time!

    I stayed here in the summer with the purpose of visiting Yunessun. While I understand the importance of streamlining and automating operations for efficiency, I felt that the staff lacked a sense of hospitality, which is essential. Unfortunately, I do not plan to stay here again. - **Breakfast Buffet** Although there was a notice about potential crowding within the facility, it was not communicated that we needed to take a Reservation Number at the restaurant location. As a result, we waited for nearly an hour and had only about 30 minutes to eat. If we had known in advance, we could have taken action by securing a Reservation Number earlier. The lack of such instructions felt very inconsiderate. Travelers want to make the most out of their limited time during trips; failing to consider this shows poor management unworthy of operating such accommodations. - **Private Open-Air Bath** We reserved and used private open-air baths twice—once on our first night and again on the following morning—but were assigned exactly the same bath both times despite there being multiple options available and no other users at those times. While simplifying operations through smartphone reservations might seem efficient, it would enhance guest satisfaction if data were reviewed so repeat customers could enjoy different types of baths during their stay. - **Staff Service Within Facility** When asking reception staff about where to find the bus stop heading toward Yumoto Station, their response was dismissive: "It's over there," without any detailed explanation or guidance. While they may be familiar with directions due to working there daily, first-time visitors are not—and that's precisely why they ask for help! Such responses make human staff unnecessary; robots would suffice if this is how guests are treated. Even if only one staff member behaves this way, it significantly impacts guests' impressions and leaves negative memories from their trip. Regardless of whether guests pay high or low prices for accommodation, they embark on trips expecting wonderful experiences—this should always be kept in mind by all staff members involved in hospitality services here!

    As it was summer vacation, I expected it to be crowded, but it was beyond my imagination. There were no particular issues with the basic facilities. The private bath in the guest room, the pool for children, and the playroom were nice. The problem was with the meals. Since only the 7:30 PM slot was available at the time of reservation, we reluctantly went at that time. However, despite being a buffet, most of the dishes were nearly empty and not replenished at all. There were no plates or cups either—what is this? Children were running around, and food had fallen on the floor creating a disastrous situation. If we had gone at 5:30 PM when it started, there might have been more options available. In any case, there is a severe imbalance between buffet space and seating capacity. It’s completely over capacity. Unless they reduce seating or increase menu options significantly, this won’t work at all. Considering that this hotel is in almost the same price range as another hotel directly connected to Yunessun where we stayed previously for two nights—the difference in satisfaction levels is shocking. Staying two nights at that previous hotel would have been a better choice. Very disappointing!

    The refrigerator temperature is too high.

    The room is compact yet clean and comfortable. However, the refrigerator in the room did not seem to cool properly, as cold drinks were not chilled at all. I placed a few bottles of water inside for the next day's sightseeing, but they remained at room temperature. It was quite disappointing that the refrigerator was not functioning well during a summer trip.

    A highly satisfying Hotel.

    I stayed here for the first time last year and decided to return. The meals were as excellent as before, with a wide variety of dishes, all delicious. The entire accommodation was clean, and the staff provided outstanding service, making it comfortable to stay even with two young children. Guests included couples, families with children, and international visitors. The large public bath was never too crowded, usually only a few groups at a time. I look forward to visiting again next year. Thank you very much!

    It was the weekend, so it was extremely crowded with mainly foreign tourists. There was an event, but the quality was low and quite uncomfortable to watch. Although the facility has been renovated, the walls seem thin, and I could hear noise from the event as well as sounds from the shower room adjacent to my bedroom. The most frustrating part was how crowded the dining area was. People gathered near certain spots (like around the drink server), which disrupted traffic flow. Even when items ran out, they were not replenished promptly, and I had to wait a long time. I used Yunessun for two days, but unfortunately, it felt outdated and unimpressive overall. The shower rooms were full of holes; screws on some shower head holders were loose and wobbly—very disappointing!

The buffet-style dining area has narrow walkways, causing congestion and reducing the time families can enjoy meals together, creating an atmosphere closer to individual dining. Despite having experienced buffet-style dining several times before, this level of crowding was unprecedented, raising concerns about food waste. The large public bath offers a wonderful atmosphere and provides a more relaxing Onsen experience compared to Mori no Yu.

    I was very satisfied. As a "Welcome Baby" facility, there were many thoughtful touches. However, the provided samue (indoor wear) only went up to size LL, which was too small for me. While the demand might be low, I would appreciate it if larger sizes could be made available. Also, it would be nice to have a slightly larger play area for children.

    Yunessun Free

    We stayed as a family with our child who just started first grade. Guests can enjoy unlimited access to Yunessun both before and after check-in. We had two full days of fun, and our child was absolutely delighted. It was also great that there were no additional charges at all. The hotel room and bath were clean, making it enjoyable for the parents as well. Both dinner and breakfast included a kids' buffet, which truly lived up to the reputation of being a "Welcome Baby" accommodation. Breakfast may require some waiting depending on the time, but there is a convenient service where they notify you via phone when your turn comes up, allowing us to play in the kids' space while waiting. Our child said they want to visit again, so we look forward to staying here once more! Thank you very much!

    A hotel I would like to stay at again.

    The newly built hotel was clean and comfortable with modern facilities. The separate sink, toilet, and shower in the room were very convenient to use. I thought the design was efficient, as space like closets was minimized. Services such as luggage storage and check-in/out were highly automated, and there were no hotel guidebooks in the room, which initially confused me. However, I felt this reflected their focus on cost performance. The greenery in the garden facing the room was beautiful and soothing. The food was delicious, and the Onsen water temperature was just right—not too hot—making it a great hotel overall.

    First-time visit. Used the shuttle service to and from Gora. When boarding the bus, I asked the driver if it was going to a certain destination, but his response was surprisingly unfriendly, which made me feel uneasy about the trip. Despite waiting for departure at the scheduled time, there was no announcement and we were left waiting for over 10 minutes (an announcement would have resolved this issue). The return trip had a different driver who was polite and reassuring. The hotel is new, clean, and well-maintained. I only noticed some noise in the hallways but otherwise had a relaxing stay. The only downside was that there wasn’t a sink in the room’s toilet area for handwashing. The free drinks in the lobby were a nice touch. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner; although I didn’t have high expectations initially (apologies), they exceeded them! The ankake ramen was delicious and became my favorite dish. Enjoyed having alcohol as well—very satisfying overall! The rice balls at breakfast were also tasty. The large public bath had spaciously divided washing areas, so it never felt crowded, allowing me to fully enjoy the Onsen experience. It seems there isn’t an alcohol vending machine (apologies if I missed it), so we bought some at FamilyMart on our way back from Yunessun. After having fun at Yunessun, enjoying delicious meals, and relaxing in a clean room, I felt completely refreshed during my stay here. The hotel staff provided excellent service with pleasant attitudes. Next time I'd like to visit Mori no Yu as well as explore outdoor activities like swimming in summer or strolling through the garden—which we couldn’t do this time due to rain!

Breakfast and dinner were the most satisfying. The kids' area is very modern and enjoyable. The large cherry tree in the garden is beautiful. The shuttle driver to Gora Station was kind and helpful. Daytime staff are friendly and kind.

    This Hotel does not provide amenities typically offered by other hotels. The night shift staff at the Hotel front desk informed me of this. Not only are there no lotions or facial cleansers, but even mouthwash is unavailable. The location is inconvenient, and since it was late at night, I felt uneasy going out alone as a woman. Without such basic amenities, the stay felt even more inconvenient. Additionally, the night shift staff at the Hotel front desk seemed somewhat unfriendly. On a positive note, the large cherry blossom tree in the garden was very beautiful.

    Scenery from the open-air bath and family bath

    This was our first stay as a family of three. The view from the front lobby was stunning, and the scenery from our room was breathtaking. The new facilities were very comfortable. Although the meals didn’t feature many luxury ingredients, they were prepared with great care, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely satisfying. There were also plenty of dishes that our child enjoyed. One downside was that the glass in the open-air bath and family bath was darkened, obstructing what could have been a beautiful view—perhaps to prevent visibility from neighboring facilities? Other than that, it’s a very cozy and wonderful accommodation. In addition to Yunessun, there is a 23m outdoor pool within the facility where you can relax under parasols during summer. We would love to visit again!

    Hakone Trip

    The room was new and very clean! The remote control didn't work due to dead batteries. I was looking forward to the Onsen, but there was no information about its benefits, and it didn’t have a sulfur smell, so I wondered if it was really an Onsen. There was only one towel per person, so I couldn’t take a morning bath. It’s disappointing because I’ve only been to places where towels are freely available in the public bath area. There were no amenities for women either, which made me feel that the service wasn’t very good. The buffet was delicious, especially the large fried shrimp—it was amazing! Since not everyone drinks alcohol, it might be better as an optional choice. We were a group of three and none of us drank alcohol...

    Priority given to foreign tourists

    We chose this accommodation for its convenience as our child wanted to visit Yunessun. However, during check-out, I wanted to request a carry service and was waiting in line at the reception, but I was completely ignored. Foreign guests who arrived later were prioritized one after another, and I was treated as if I didn’t exist, which was extremely unpleasant. Even though I waited where they told me to wait, nothing changed. While there may be an issue with foreign tourists not lining up properly, isn’t it also a problem that the staff doesn’t address this behavior? If such treatment is standard practice here, it would be better to clearly state from the beginning that foreign tourists are given priority.

    I stayed with my child, and the room was spacious and clean, which was great. The buffet had a wide variety of options, making it enjoyable. When we went to the buffet, a staff member (I believe their name was Mikami) noticed that my child's hotel room wear was too large and kindly provided a smaller size. I truly appreciated the thoughtful and attentive service.

    Family-friendly

    We informed the staff that we were accompanying elderly parents, and they kindly arranged a Room close to the elevator and on the same floor as the lobby, which was very convenient. Despite being busy, the Room had excellent soundproofing, allowing us to enjoy a quiet stay. We stayed on a Sunday night, and most of the guests were families with small children. It may not be ideal for couples, solo travelers, or groups (though it’s possible to feel comfortable if you skip dining).

    Enjoy a great time together with Yunessun!

    We stayed as a family with our 5-year-old using a plan that allowed us to continue enjoying Yunessun even after check-out. Since the facility was recently renovated, both the rooms and the interior were very clean and well-maintained. The welcome drinks included a variety of options such as coffee, roasted green tea, regular tea, and orange juice, which were available at any time during our stay. The buffet offered a decent selection of dishes, including plenty of seafood and meals for children, which made it satisfying overall. Personally, I appreciated the inclusion of several steamed vegetable dishes—definitely a highlight for me. Alcoholic beverages were also all-you-can-drink, adding to the enjoyment! There was also a small kids' space where children could enjoy digital drawing or origami (a big plus compared to not having one). In the evening, we strolled through the beautifully lit-up garden—a spacious area that kept our child entertained without getting bored. (They even had a rock-paper-scissors challenge where we received small prizes!) By booking during sale periods, you can reserve plans with breakfast and dinner included at very reasonable prices. We would love to stay here again when visiting Yunessun in the future!
