    Feel as if you’re staying within Izumo Taisha Shrine.

    The Accommodation is a renovated former storehouse, featuring solid wood floors and impressive exposed beams and pillars. Since it felt similar to my own home, it was incredibly comfortable. (I was also surprised that the bathroom layout was exactly like mine.) It almost felt like staying in a Room within Izumo Taisha, and I highly recommend a morning walk as well. Choosing the plan with both dinner and breakfast was absolutely the right decision. There are very few restaurants around here, and almost all of them close around 5:00 PM (only Starbucks stays open until 6:30 PM), so I recommend booking with meals included. Dinner is a creative French full-course meal using local ingredients, with the luxury of optional sake pairing. Breakfast is Japanese-style, featuring local shijimi clam miso soup, blanched vegetables in light seasoning, nanbanzuke marinated barracuda, simmered chicken and burdock root, and many other dishes—very satisfying. It was a quick one-night, two-day trip for two adults to visit Izumo Taisha, but it turned into an extremely satisfying journey. This is an Accommodation I would definitely love to return to if I have the chance.

    Thank you again for taking such good care of us. With its excellent location beside the approach to the shrine and within walking distance of Izumo Taisha, along with the Facility lovingly restored from a charming building from days gone by and the wonderful hospitality of all the staff, we were able to spend a truly pleasant time. Even though we visit again at almost the same time each year, the meals are different every time—delicious dishes that highlight local production for local consumption and are also a delight to look at—and once again we finished everything. If I may make one small request: as I get older, it can be difficult to read in the dim, atmospheric lighting. It would be very helpful if you could provide a light stand (even as a loan item) so guests can read books more easily. We look forward to visiting again next year. Thank you very much.

    Disappointing

    There was almost no explanation about the Room from the front desk staff, so I had to check everything myself. I don’t think this Accommodation is cheap. They may have been part-time staff, but I think they should be better trained. The amenities were also at a Business Hotel level.

    It was incredibly relaxing.

    Our family of three stayed for two nights. We did not include dinner and thought we could eat out, but most places near Izumo Taisha closed around 5:00 p.m., so it was difficult to find somewhere for dinner. I wish we had been informed of this in advance. Breakfast was very delicious. As for the bath, even though we set it to automatic filling, the hot water overflowed. Also, we were told that additional amenities were available at the front desk, but it would have been nice to have at least a brush in the Room beforehand. We would like to stay again.

    The walls between rooms are too thin.

    I stayed for one night to visit Izumo Taisha. The location is very convenient for getting to Izumo Taisha. The Accommodation is a renovated traditional house that was originally a hospital from the Taisho era, and it felt simple and sturdy—very close to the impression I had from the website. I booked with breakfast; this is purely subjective, but I felt it was fairly average compared with what I’ve had before. The most negative point—also mentioned in other Reviews—is that the wall between rooms felt extremely thin, probably among the thinnest of any Accommodation (Hotel or Ryokan) I’ve stayed at, in my opinion. The level of noise coming through included the neighbor’s footsteps, voices (not clear enough to understand words), and even bath/shower sounds at midnight (loud enough to wake me up). At check-in I was told the walls are thin and to be mindful of noise, but I didn’t expect normal living sounds to carry this much, so my neighbor likely wasn’t even aware. At first I also didn’t think about it until I started hearing footsteps, laughter, and voices—so it may have been mutual. To avoid trouble between guests, it would help to clearly explain what kinds of sounds can be heard through the walls and provide specific notices—for example, guidance about using the bath/shower after 22:00.

    We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious French dinner.

    The French dinner was delicious, and the staff were kind, making for a comfortable stay. They also adjusted our dinner start time so we could enjoy the sunset at Inasa Beach and visit Izumo Taisha early in the morning, which allowed us to fully enjoy our trip to Izumo. The Noyano Room used to be a former kitchen, so there is quite a step between the earthen-floor area and the Room. It would be even better if it were possible to move between the wash area and the Room without slippers by using platforms or similar. Thank you very much.

    It has charm, but...

    I stayed here to visit Izumo Taisha for New Year's. It is very convenient for visiting the shrine. The accommodation, renovated from an old clinic, had charm and a nice atmosphere. However, the room was extremely cold. I expected some drafts but would recommend considering the season when booking. I managed with the heater on full blast, but the vent was covered in mold... I had to choose between breathing air from the moldy vent or freezing. Since I love Izumo Taisha, I'll definitely choose another accommodation next time. The staff's overly discreet presence also felt a bit awkward.

    Although it was midwinter, the room in the storehouse was not cold and we were able to stay comfortably. Not only the room but also the front desk, restaurant, garden, and the entire accommodation had a sense of unity, allowing us to immerse ourselves in its unique atmosphere. The staff's service was very polite, and they kindly responded to our inquiries. The meals were carefully prepared with high-quality ingredients and were absolutely delicious.

    The staff kindly accommodated our request when we mentioned that we might not make it in time for dinner due to the bus schedule from Hinomisaki. Thank you for your flexibility. The Room retains the charm of the Taisho era, with its original structure preserved. While there were slight quirks like creaky doors and chilly hallways, these elements added an authentic and nostalgic atmosphere. At the same time, some rooms are equipped with air conditioning and gas stoves, and modern updates have been made to the bathrooms, striking a good balance between traditional ambiance and modern comfort. One minor drawback was that the lighting in the washroom was dim, making it a bit challenging for makeup application. Dinner featured creative French cuisine showcasing the chef's originality. It was my first time trying Manyo beef, which was incredibly delicious. However, since both soup and fish dishes were creamy, I felt that a simpler seasoning like salt and pepper might have complemented the meat dish better. Overall, I truly appreciated the staff's perfectly balanced service—attentive yet unobtrusive—which made my stay very comfortable. Thank you for your hospitality!

    The service provided was truly hospitable.

    I stayed during the Kamiarizuki season. The accommodation is within walking distance to Izumo Shrine, and I enjoyed exploring the town. This accommodation is a renovated old hospital and its main building, each with its own charm, allowing me to feel the history and Japanese culture. From the moment of arrival, I felt the hospitality of the staff through their attentive service. Their explanations were thorough, and when they realized that only two craft beers were prepared for our group of four as part of a special offer, they kindly delivered additional beers to our room later on. The dinner service was also very thoughtful; when I left my seat temporarily, they paused serving food and resumed once I returned—this truly showcased their spirit of hospitality. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. Thank you for such wonderful meals! I have developed great interest in NIPPONIA accommodations across the whole country. When traveling to areas with NIPPONIA locations in the future, it will definitely be my top choice. Thank you for an enjoyable stay filled with wonderful memories!

    It was great.

    The room and building were calm and lovely, and the service provided by the young woman was excellent. While there were some dishes that felt slightly lacking, the quantity and quality of the meals were generally satisfying. However, my husband found it insufficient, so the portion size might be a bit small for men. As for the sake pairing, I feel there is room for improvement in terms of knowledge. Overall, it was a great accommodation. Thank you very much!

    Close to Izumo Taisha, it offers the charm of early morning visits with fewer crowds, which is why I chose this place. This was my second stay, and I enjoyed the meals as well.     As a wheelchair user, this was a revisit. When I mentioned some inconveniences related to the room, the staff responded promptly and assured me that they would share and consider these matters for the future, which left a very positive impression. The accommodation is located slightly off the main path of Izumo Taisha Shrine, making it quiet during the stay. The meals served in the morning and evening were beautifully presented with a focus on local ingredients, offering excellent flavors and presentation. The location is also ideal as you can walk to both the shrine's path and Izumo Taisha Shrine itself.     Due to work circumstances, my check-in time was later than planned, but I was warmly welcomed and felt relieved. The location was just a 5-minute walk from Izumo Taisha, allowing me to visit twice—at night and the following morning. The accommodation was clean and very comfortable. The meals were also extremely delicious.

    The service and food...

    The service and food were excellent. However, the accommodation was inconvenient as the bed was on the second floor while the bathroom and toilet were on the first floor, requiring going down stairs, putting on footwear, and crossing a dirt floor. If I had known this at the time of reservation, I would have reconsidered. That said, because of the excellent service and meals, my overall rating is 3. For my next reservation, I will inquire about room details in advance. Ideally, it would be better if there were wooden flooring over the dirt area to allow access barefoot when going downstairs to the first-floor rooms.

    It was an exceptional experience!

    I stayed here for the first time with a focus on sightseeing at Izumo Taisha! The service was polite, and the renovated traditional house was beautifully done. The bathroom and toilet were very comfortable. The Room was spacious, allowing me to relax fully. This time I only had breakfast, but I enjoyed various local dishes, which were absolutely delicious! The clam soup was amazing! If I have the chance to visit Izumo again, I would definitely like to stay here. Next time, I'd love to try dinner as well!

    Thank you for your hospitality. At first, the entrance was a bit hard to find, and I got a little lost, but the wonderful smiles of the staff reassured me. All of the dishes were very delicious, and I was able to spend a very quiet and peaceful time. One disappointing thing was that I had trouble figuring out how to use the coffee mill in the Room, which caused me to miss my checkout time and not be able to drink coffee. Other than that, I was very satisfied. Thank you.

    Charming Stays

    I stayed in a room in Takahama. Although the reservation site on IKYU mentioned it was 28 square meters, it felt much more spacious and relaxing. It was cold in Shimane in January, but each room had its own heating equipment, and the gas heater, in particular, was very warm and nice. Having a heater in the dressing room was also helpful. One concern was that I could hear the voices and footsteps from the room above quite a bit. Since it was a quiet room without a TV, the sounds echoed significantly. The meals were beautiful and very delicious from start to finish, but I thought the portions were a bit small. However, the Shimane Wagyu was exceptionally delicious. It was close to Izumo Taisha, and I appreciated being able to use the parking lot even after checking out.

    The satisfaction level is high.

    Overall, I am very satisfied, but for future improvement, I would like to see more amenities provided as it is not a Business Hotel. I would like the sink area to be cleaned more thoroughly. Due to the crowd, the meal pace was fast. I would like to enjoy the meals at a more leisurely pace.

    It was very helpful as we could walk to Izumo Taisha. Since it was an early morning visit in light rain, the warm breakfast was appreciated. We also enjoyed the taste of Shimane for dinner. The Shimane Wagyu beef was particularly delicious. Due to the rain, the room was dark and cold. During this trip, we stayed at various properties for 8 nights, but unfortunately, the quality of the toilet paper here was the worst. Including that, is it perhaps a retro feeling...

    Gourmet Inn

    Attracted by the traditional house... local sake... and French cuisine, and charmed by the room's atmosphere, we booked it for our summer family trip. The meals were not only delicious, but the tableware and presentation were also captivating, and the room's atmosphere was delightful. The staff were warm-hearted, allowing us to relax comfortably. I would like to visit again in a different season.
