    A Hotel for a Relaxing Stay

    The Room was spacious and the bed was large, so we could relax comfortably. We were also able to take our time and enjoy both afternoon tea and aperitif time. For dinner, we had requested sushi about two months in advance because it was delicious when we visited before, but on the day we were told that sushi service was unavailable due to many group guests, which was very disappointing. The Japanese dishes and drinks had limited variety and were average. Breakfast offered a wide selection, and the fruit (especially the melon) was exceptionally delicious.

    Please provide additional training for the younger female staff before assigning them to guest-facing duties. It is completely fine if their Japanese is not perfect, but it was very unpleasant that it was hard to hear them through a mask, that water was spilled when pouring into a glass at breakfast and left as-is, and that dishes were placed on top of the menu. The male staff were excellent and made our stay enjoyable, which makes this especially disappointing. With only a small number of Rooms, the Room was comfortable and quiet, and we had a nice vacation. However, I don’t think we will return.

    It was a wonderful Room.

    The Room was wonderful, and we had a lovely stay. However, there were many flies during this season, and they got into the Room, which made it difficult to deal with them. The dining experience can only be described as disappointing. Even though it was the Obon holiday period, the crowding should have been anticipated and managed with Reservations, but both the dining hall and kitchen were not running smoothly. Also, despite our long stay, the staff did not seem to recognize us.

    I was worried about ...

    I was worried about the heat, but the temperature dropped at just the right time, making for a very pleasant stay. There was no mention of it at check-in, but it seems our Room was upgraded, and I was truly impressed by how spacious and beautiful it was. The afternoon tea and breakfast were also excellent, and we were very satisfied. All of the staff were extremely kind, so we could stay comfortably. I definitely want to stay here again. Thank you for taking care of us for two days. Thank you very much.

    I’d love to come back in a different season.

    I was able to fully enjoy the very best, from the Room furnishings to the outstanding quality of the cuisine. I visited specifically to enjoy a Hotel stay on a rainy day, and had afternoon tea, aperitifs, and a French dinner. Everything was the most delicious I’ve ever had, and I could truly feel that even the “basics” were executed on an entirely different level—this is what it means to earn Michelin stars. By the end I was honestly too full, so next time I’m thinking Japanese cuisine for dinner. It would also be nice if there were a lighter French course option. The live guitar performance was by a truly skilled musician, and I ended up staying in the lounge longer than planned. The disappointing points were that it was not an Onsen but a large public bath, and the open-air bath was still broken and unavailable. Also, turndown service for my Room was forgotten (which made me sad). Many of the staff were not Japanese and often could only manage basic Hotel conversation; when I asked for recommended scenic drives in the area, it seemed they only knew about Appi Kogen. I would like there to be a concierge available who can provide advice. Also, since my Room faced the slopes side, I wanted to relax on the balcony listening to the rain and birdsong, but pop music played continuously and felt intrusive—next time I’d like to choose a Room on another side. Although there are some things that could be improved, I enjoyed quality well beyond what I paid for. As a solo female traveler as well, it felt like somewhere I could truly relax. Next time, as a reward trip for myself, I’d love to visit again in another season.

    Excellent!!

    I stay here every year. They almost always upgrade my Room, and the best part is taking a bath while looking outside! The afternoon tea, aperitif, and breakfast are all consistently satisfying every time! Thank you as always!!

    I’m a returning guest.

    With the increase in foreign staff, there were several occasions when communication was difficult. I would like at least one Japanese staff member to be stationed at the front desk. The open-air bath was closed due to the earthquake, so I would like to visit again once it reopens.

    Consistently top-notch, but…

    The Room, the view, and the overall atmosphere were all first-class, and I was truly able to relax. I always stay here to refresh, and it consistently feels reliable. However, there was one disappointing point this time: at Bar Mokko, when I ordered a cocktail from the bartender and explained my preferred style, I was served something completely different. I hope a more experienced professional can be behind the bar.

    Please repair the open-air bath as soon as possible.

    My wife and I stayed here the day before yesterday. We have visited Appi Kogen every spring and autumn since it opened, and this was exactly our 10th stay. It was extremely windy that day, but we were able to relax indoors. The only disappointment was the open-air bath. It seems the outer wall recently peeled off due to strong winds, so it was unavailable. It’s a small open-air bath, but it has been my absolute favorite—soaking slowly and peacefully while listening to birds singing from the surrounding trees. I hope it will be restored as soon as possible. We plan to visit again in September, and then I’d like to fully enjoy the open-air bath for both this time and next time. Also, to the young male staff member who helped with moving our car in and out: I’m always happy that you speak with us in various ways. You seem like a car enthusiast—maybe we can have a relaxed chat next time.

    A place to spend special moments with someone special

    I had wanted to stay here for a long time, so I came with my son when he returned home. During afternoon tea and aperitif time, we enjoyed thoughtful and delicious food and drinks, and were able to relax with live music. Our Room had a garden, so at night we gazed up at a sky full of stars. Hearing an owl call from the woods was also a memorable experience that truly made us feel close to Appi’s nature. The Room was spacious and functional, and I felt it was designed with guests in mind. Thanks to the staff’s dedicated hospitality, we had a very pleasant stay. It was disappointing that the open-air bath was unavailable due to the earthquake. One reason I chose this Hotel was because it has an open-air bath, but I wasn’t informed it couldn’t be used until after we arrived. It would have been better to be notified in advance, or to have some alternative service offered in place of the open-air bath. Still, everything else—including the Room—was wonderful, so even without using it we were more than satisfied. One more thing: during afternoon tea, I noticed that one server’s uniform was stained. Since this is such a lovely Hotel, paying attention to details like that would make it even more appealing. This is a Hotel I would definitely like to visit again. Since I live in the prefecture, just knowing I can come back makes me feel motivated at work as well. Thank you to all the staff for providing such a wonderful time—my son was very happy too, and this has become a special place for us both.

    Exceptional hospitality

    We stayed for four nights this time. In fact, we had stayed here before and were so impressed by the Accommodation’s atmosphere and service that we knew we wanted to come back, so we chose this place again without hesitation. I still vividly remembered how delicious the restaurant meals were last time, so this time we decided to dine at the restaurant all four nights. Every dish was truly excellent, and I looked forward to dinner each day. That said, after eating out continuously, I started to feel a bit of heaviness in my stomach around the third day. A staff member noticed right away, and on the fourth day they kindly created and served a new lighter menu for me. It was delicious and gentle on my stomach—I was genuinely happy and moved. I sincerely appreciate such thoughtful attention. Housekeeping and amenities were also impeccable, making our stay very comfortable. The Onsen was clean and relaxing as well, and we enjoyed it many times. The Facility, service, and food were all outstanding—there was nothing to complain about. I would absolutely love to stay here again on our next visit. Thank you very much.

    Personal impressions of the accommodation

    The building is impressive, and the room was clean and satisfactory. However, the dining experience seemed uncoordinated; despite available seats, table settings were not ready on time, and there were noticeable signs of inexperience. That said, many staff members showed a genuine effort to provide good service, which was encouraging. The meals were delicious with a sense of good taste from the chef, but considering the accommodation cost, it felt slightly lacking. The location is excellent for skiing, making it a tough decision overall. In general, apart from the cost-performance ratio, it wasn’t bad. If you think of it as staying at an overseas hotel, it's acceptable.

    The Room was lovely,...

    The Room was lovely, and we had a very comfortable stay. The afternoon tea and aperitifs were delightful and absolutely delicious. The Western-style dinner course was exceptional, leaving both my husband and me deeply impressed—our gratitude to the chef. All the staff were incredibly kind, making our stay even more enjoyable. Iwate Prefecture is truly wonderful! We look forward to visiting again. Thank you for creating such wonderful travel memories for us; we are deeply grateful to everyone.

    The stunning autumn leaves visible from the Room and the large public bath against the clear blue sky!

    In June, I was moved by the fresh greenery and returned to see the autumn leaves at Buna Station. The weather was cloudy, but the various yellow leaves along the way were stunning. However, in the secondary beech forest at higher altitudes, it seemed that autumn had almost ended. The next morning brought beautiful clear skies! The autumn foliage near our Room was vibrant and fiery. Around what appeared to be the gondola's endpoint, most of the leaves had already fallen, revealing those unique winter branches. Despite this, inspired by the stunningly clear sky, we considered taking a gondola ride—but operations were suspended due to strong winds. Oddly enough, I felt that viewing from inside our Room made everything look more beautiful than stepping out onto the balcony. Previously, I visited with friends; this time I came with my family. Both my husband and daughter thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea and aperitifs. Thank you for arranging a Room close to the elevator for us!

    During my temporary return to Japan from overseas, I visited the northeastern Tohoku region for the first time. The sparkling Hotel had a sense of elegance and offered a stylish and relaxing stay. The Room was very functional, and I enjoyed visiting the bath multiple times. What stood out most was the meal at Hakuro, where I had an amazing dining experience using local ingredients. Please convey my gratitude to the chef. Thank you very much!

    Used multiple times and loved the food, but what happened??

    This was about our 6th stay. The dinner, whether choosing Western or Japanese cuisine, used to be elaborate, beautifully presented, and delicious... However, after visiting again for the first time in over a year, we were left wondering what happened. My husband chose Western cuisine, and I chose Japanese, but neither showed much creativity. The Japanese cuisine even seemed like it was prepared by a Western chef. The Iwate beef red wine sukiyaki tasted more like grilled short ribs. The Western dish had a sauce that didn’t suit our taste and fatty meat. Both my husband and I ended up leaving most of our meals uneaten. It was disappointing. The service also seemed rushed and lacking composure, possibly due to being busy. Where has the previous InterContinental experience gone? It’s truly unfortunate. Additionally, while check-out is at 11:00 (12:00 for us as Diamond members), the Onsen was only available until 10:00. We would appreciate it if it could be extended to at least 10:30.

    An Annual Delight

    I visit this dreamlike Hotel once a year to escape from everyday life. Enjoy an elegant afternoon tea after check-in and a serene adult atmosphere during the evening aperitif time—this is what I look forward to! The large public bath is fully equipped with towels and drinks, so you can go empty-handed. However, the outdoor bath is too dark; it would be better with more lighting as the scenery becomes invisible, which feels like a missed opportunity. I also wish the hairdryer could be upgraded to Panasonic's top-level model that Japan takes pride in—it would add more attention to detail. I usually visit in spring and autumn, but I feel breakfast lacks variety; adding some changes would make it more exciting. My top recommendation for breakfast is the salad chicken made with local poultry—I absolutely love it and always have plenty of it! The green mountain view from each Room is stunning, offering spaciousness, excellent facilities, and beautiful interiors. The staff are kind and provide exceptional service. Looking forward to visiting again next year!

    The room was very spacious with a wonderful view, providing a relaxing stay at the accommodation. The welcome drink and plate were excellent and delicious, helping to ease the fatigue of the journey. Since we chose a plan without dinner, having a guide to nearby restaurants would have been helpful. However, the staff's service was excellent, and they smoothly arranged dinner for us, which was very helpful. It would be nice if some amenities could be provided in the large public bath, as there were none available.

    The meals were excellent.

    Recommended by relatives, we visited this wonderful accommodation. The facility offered a variety of activities such as gondola rides, tennis, swimming pool, table tennis, Onsen baths, and walking trails. Our children kept us busy with all these experiences, and we had a great time. Purchasing items at the shop and borrowing tools like lighters and buckets allowed us to enjoy handheld fireworks under the starry sky—a truly memorable experience. While I usually prefer smaller luxury accommodations, staying at a larger facility provided diverse experiences that were refreshing and enjoyable. The dinner included through IKYU.com exceeded our expectations—it was surprisingly delicious! The chef worked tirelessly from early morning to late night with a cheerful demeanor; chatting with him added to the enjoyment. We initially visited as part of scouting for skiing but found the gondola ride in summer unbearably hot due to lack of air conditioning. With only slightly openable windows, it felt dehydratingly uncomfortable—especially considering it cost 7,700 yen for four people just to enjoy the view. Although we laughed about hearing dinosaur growls ruining the serene atmosphere at the scenic swing on top of the mountain—it did feel out of place! We wondered if heating would be an issue during winter rides too. Aside from the midsummer gondola experience, everything else about this facility was truly enjoyable. Conveniently located in central Tohoku between Aomori and Sendai during our trip—it became one of our cherished memories. We look forward to visiting again someday—thank you very much!

    The hotel is new, offering a clean and calm atmosphere with a unique charm different from Manza or Ishigaki Island, and it felt somewhat similar to Beppu. The baths, including the Onsen and the hinoki bath in the room, were excellent. However, the concept of the club floor seemed quite different from other hotels. Having experienced exceptional hospitality at places like Manza, Ishigaki Island, and Beppu, I was rather disappointed. Since my first visit to a club lounge in Manza left me impressed, I have used them several times in Ishigaki Island and Beppu as well as other hotels' club floors. ANA Hotels have been outstanding so far. Therefore, I had high expectations for this newly opened hotel at Appi Kogen with its Michelin 5-star rating...

    I stayed last year and was very impressed with this luxurious hotel. It has a warm and relaxing atmosphere that I truly loved. The food was especially delicious, making me want to come back every year! So, I visited again this year. The staff are also very kind. Next time, I would love to visit to see the winter scenery.

    We had a truly elegant and enjoyable time.

    I had been recommended this accommodation by a friend for a long time and was eager to stay, and finally, my stay became a reality. The water in the large public bath was lukewarm, but everything else was very satisfying. The breakfast, afternoon tea, apero time, and dinner were all delicious. On Sunday, there was live piano and guitar music during apero time and dinner, which allowed me to enjoy a luxurious atmosphere. I had a relaxing stay that helped me clear the stress of my busy days. I would love to visit again!

    It was a wonderful mini reunion.

    During the fresh green season, four friends from my school days decided to visit and requested to stay at this Hotel. The day before, we stayed at Hanamaki Onsen for the second night. The rooms were upgraded, and we had three rooms in a row. The spaciousness, facilities, and location of the rooms were absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed afternoon tea and apero time (in the garden seating), followed by a delightful dinner at the restaurant with various à la carte dishes—all of which were of high quality and visually pleasing as well as delicious. We even had the pleasure of greeting the charming head chef. The petit fours were also delightful. The breakfast on the following day was equally delicious with a variety of options that we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to this experience, we had an elegant and enjoyable time together, leaving my old friends completely satisfied as they departed. Thank you so much for everything. As for me, I received great appreciation as their organizer (laughs). They mentioned wanting to return during ski season or with their families next time—so please take care of us again when that happens!

    Perfect accommodation for a three-generation family ski trip

    Every year, our regular ski accommodation was Club Med in Hokkaido. However, due to recent temperature fluctuations and frequent airline cancellations on the return trip, combined with Club Med's new minimum stay requirement of 4 nights or more, we could only visit during long holidays like New Year’s. This time, we decided to spend a 2-night, 3-day trip at Appi Kogen during the February holiday weekend—and it turned out to be a perfect choice. The snow quality was comparable to Hokkaido, the slopes were uncrowded, ski rentals were well-equipped, there weren’t many inbound tourists, it was quiet with a sauna available—and above all—the hotel meals were delicious. There was live music every night and wide beginner courses that made skiing enjoyable. We’d love to come back for spring skiing as well. Thank you for your hospitality!

    It was my second time in two consecutive years, and I was more satisfied than the last time.

    When I first visited, I was satisfied with the atmosphere and access to the slopes, and this was my second stay in two consecutive years. During my previous stay, there were small stresses such as issues with the habits of some guests from China and superficial hospitality, but overall I was satisfied. This time, there were none of those issues, and rather, I felt as if I was traveling abroad while still in Japan, and I was completely satisfied. I felt that the sincere response of the staff, including the doorman who helped when we got stuck in the snow upon arrival, and their supportive attitude towards activities we decided on suddenly, were worth the price.
