    I always stay here m...

I always stay here most looking forward to the chef’s carefully prepared, delicious, and fresh dishes with delightful surprises. This time as well, I truly enjoyed a wonderful dinner. I am also satisfied with the service from the dining staff. However, the service at the front desk—especially from staff who appear to be in management—falls short of the usual Hotel Okura standard, which is always disappointing.

    We had a great time.

I chose this Hotel to relax and unwind during the extreme heat. Thank you to all the staff. It’s a Hotel I’d like to stay at again.

An exquisite Hotel stay with vibrant Japanese charm and refined luxury.

I stayed one night in Kyoto, a city I love, to go hydrangea viewing. I arrived before check-in, but I was able to relax in the lounge overlooking the beautiful garden with a cola and cake. Soon after, I was shown to my room, which I truly appreciated. As I don’t have much stamina, I chose this Hotel so I could rest well while still enjoying the feeling of being on a trip in Kyoto. I made a Reservation for a room with views of Kōmyō-ji Temple’s main gate and the Hotel garden from the window. Including the magic hour at dusk and dawn as well as the nighttime illumination, the scenery was even more wonderful than expected, and it was truly relaxing. It was also adorable to see snails and umbrellas drawn in the Hotel’s stone garden outside the window—so perfect for Japan’s rainy season. In my room there were Gion Tsujiri kabusecha green tea, black tea, and coffee; plus complimentary juice and beer in the refrigerator. Enjoying a slow Hotel stay while watching the beautiful view and changing sky was simply amazing. In particular, there was a chocolate-scented coffee capsule called “Chocolatino” for the espresso machine—I woke up before dawn and felt so happy having my morning coffee while watching sunrise magic hour. The beer also had stylish yuzu and fruity aromas, and drinking it in a bathrobe after bathing tasted exceptionally good. From 15:00 to 18:00, welcome drinks were available in the lounge. There were champagne and white wine—both favorites of mine—and I enjoyed them at leisure. As I’m a light eater traveling solo (and had just eaten cake), pairing drinks with some potatoes was more than enough for me; however, it also felt like you could enjoy a proper dinner there as well—meat dishes, desserts, and more—which seemed great because you can adjust freely depending on your mood. I love baths as well, so I was happy that there were stylish, high-quality bath salts and amenities provided in generous amounts. Twice—at night and again the next morning—I soaked properly in a bathtub where I could fully stretch out and relax. Breakfast overlooking the garden was wonderful too; they kindly arranged seating where I could feel comfortable on my own. After breakfast each day, between attending morning services and taking walks around the garden grounds (and more), it felt incredibly fulfilling. The gardens within this Hotel also had seasonal flowers such as hydrangeas and bellflowers (kikyo). Including nighttime illumination visits too—I took three walks total: evening, night, then morning—and being able to enjoy Kyoto’s seasonal atmosphere without even leaving made me extremely satisfied. It was an amazing trip to Kyoto!

    Revisit

It was a very calm Hotel, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. I also liked that breakfast was not buffet-style, allowing guests to take their time and unwind. The only disappointing point was that I could not use the luggage drop-off and pick-up service at Kyoto Station available at an affiliated Hotel. This service is a major benefit, so if you could reconsider it, I would like to stay again.

    I’m very disappointe...

I’m very disappointed. There was no welcome drink; when I asked, I was told they had stopped it. At check-in, they immediately collected the Accommodation Tax—before we even stayed. I’ve never seen a Hotel do that. The garden, which is supposed to be a highlight, was poorly maintained, with overgrown leaves ruining the view. The staff were chatting and showed no attention to guests. At breakfast, they handed the menu to only one person and asked, “Which would you like?”—but how could I choose when I couldn’t see it? No wonder they can’t compete with foreign-owned Hotels. Is this really the Okura brand?

This is my first time staying at Okazaki Bettei.

The staff service is good, and the garden view is also nice. I visit Kyoto often, and compared with Brighton Kyoto, Hotel Okura, Nikko Princess, ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto, and Hotel Mitsui, it feels more luxurious. Hotel Mitsui is slightly better. They forgot my omelet at breakfast.

It was a very good Hotel.

I stayed for one night, and it was a very nice Hotel. The location is great, the Facility is clean, and the amenities are well stocked. Next time, I’d like to try the meals as well.

    A Comfortable Space

Because it is not a large-scale Hotel, you feel closer to the staff, which is one reason the hospitality and service feel so warm—and you can really tell that everyone is mindful of that in the way they treat guests. I stayed for three nights and had breakfast only on the first morning. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious, but the bread selection included only the “crispy/flaky type” (such as croissants), which I’m not great with—each time I tore off a piece, crumbs from the outer crust would fall everywhere, making it a bit hard to eat. If you could also offer some “less flaky” options so guests can choose, there would be nothing at all to complain about (haha). That said, overall I was very satisfied, and it’s a Hotel I’d happily stay at again when visiting Kyoto.

The trusted Okura brand. Thank you for a wonderful and fulfilling stay.

A quiet location next to Okazaki Shrine, and from the moment we arrived, the staff’s service was exceptionally attentive—truly what you’d expect from the Okura brand. The thoughtful, uniquely Japanese attention to detail and calm hospitality made our entire stay relaxing and peaceful. Dinner while looking out over the garden was beautifully presented, absolutely delicious, and very satisfying. The interior was serene and refined, far removed from the crowds of tourists. We also enjoyed the complimentary free-flow sparkling wine as well as red and white wine available exclusively for guests. We would definitely like to stay here again when we visit Kyoto. Thank you very much.

    Use “Nouvelle Epoque” (Nouvelle Époque).

We stayed to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary and had dinner at “Nouvelle Epoque.” It was completely different from any creative French cuisine we’ve had before, and the dishes left a lasting impression. The sauces were especially outstanding—present yet perfectly balanced to enhance each ingredient—and every plate felt exceptionally refined. It was a special dining experience that beautifully blended Kyoto character with French cuisine, engaging all five senses. After the meal, the executive chef came to greet us, and we could truly feel his passion for the food and the warm hospitality. Next time, we would love to try the chef’s signature fish dishes. It became a wonderful memory of our 31st wedding anniversary.

    It was a heartwarming stay.

This was our first stay at this Accommodation. When we arrived, we found out that the parking space we had reserved had not been booked due to a mistake, so we headed to a nearby paid parking lot feeling a bit unsettled. Just as a light rain started, a member of the Hotel staff kindly came to meet us with an umbrella. Their courteous manner completely eased our earlier frustration and left us feeling warmly welcomed. The interior was calm and relaxing, and since it was May, the greenery was beautiful. Our Room was also clean and very comfortable. In the evening lounge, we enjoyed complimentary soft drinks and sparkling wine. There was no food, but guests were quiet and relaxed, each enjoying their drinks at their own pace, which made for a very pleasant time. Breakfast is not buffet-style; it is brought to your table. Not having to constantly get up made it easy for us as a couple to enjoy a leisurely and delicious breakfast. We also appreciated how the staff spoke with us at just the right distance—attentive without being intrusive—which made our stay feel especially warm. We were truly happy to have found such a comfortable Hotel in Kyoto, and it turned into a very satisfying stay overall. We have already made another Reservation for November, and we are looking forward to visiting again.

An Accommodation with Everything You Need

The Facility had a bright, functional feel while still offering a Japanese aesthetic that many international guests would enjoy. I wanted to choose a larger Room, but based on the photos I was concerned that the beds in the larger twin Room were quite close together, so I chose the Serenity Twin instead. The Serenity Twin has a fairly small Room, and the washbasin and bathroom area are also quite compact. Since my Plan included breakfast, I didn’t have dinner there, but the American breakfast was delicious. In terms of location, it seems ideal for sightseeing at Nanzen-ji Temple and along the Philosopher’s Path.

You should definitely choose a Room with a private balcony.

From the Room with a private balcony, you can enjoy beautiful views of the gardens of Higashi Honganji Okazaki Betsuin and distant temples. Our child also loved sitting by the window, enjoying the view while eating snacks. It is a very comfortable Room.

The front desk staff were also very kind.

During my stay, a male staff member from Taiwan was incredibly attentive and kindly helped resolve a misunderstanding caused by a language mix-up at dinner on the first night. Thanks to him, I was able to relax and enjoy my time at the Hotel with peace of mind, and I am very satisfied with the service. I sincerely appreciate his support.

The restaurant staff were also kind.

At dinner on the second day, the manager kindly looked after us and made a chef’s hat for our child out of a napkin, which delighted them. They also thoughtfully re-cooked the steak well-done for our child, who does not like raw foods.

Although there were a few minor issues, overall we were satisfied.

This time, we stayed at this Hotel for two nights and chose a Plan that included breakfast and dinner. There was a minor incident at the dinner venue on the first night, but overall it was a wonderful Hotel. The lamb dish at dinner was especially outstanding, and the fish roe dish was also unforgettable.

    A Relaxing Retreat for Adults

My mother and I stayed here together. It was a very quiet, relaxing Hotel, and we had a wonderful time. We still often talk about how incredibly delicious the breakfast and dinner were. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you to all the staff for your courteous service and wonderful smiles.

Thank you for the warm hospitality during dinner.

[Overall] We visited as a family of five including children, using two Rooms, and were able to spend a calm and relaxing time in a peaceful atmosphere. In particular, the consideration shown at dinner was outstanding and reflected truly first-class hospitality. On the other hand, regarding breakfast operations and guidance on member benefits, I would like to share details in the hope of future improvement. [What was great: Excellent service at dinner] In advance, we consulted about requests such as “please limit raw items” or “please change them to cooked dishes,” and you provided a menu that thoughtfully reflected our intentions—excellent in both presentation and taste. Both the guest concerned and our whole family could enjoy the meal safely and deliciously, for which we are sincerely grateful. Also, before we even mentioned it, you applied the One Harmony member discount; the teamwork among staff and attentive care were very smooth. [What concerned us: Issues with service and Facility] For further improvement of your service, I will mention a few points. Lack of coordination at breakfast: Perhaps information from dinner was not shared; although we requested “please cook it well” on the spot, we were served a soft-cooked egg. In addition, right after being told an ingredient “was not included,” it was clearly present in the salad that was served. This made us uneasy about safety management such as allergies. Consideration for wheelchair use: With a family member using a wheelchair, during breakfast our chair was moved back without confirmation, resulting in another family member having no seat. A brief word to us would have made things smoother. (Dinner service was handled very courteously.) Facilities: The floor of the in-room bath was slippery, which frightened our family members. We would appreciate consideration such as adding more handrails or providing non-slip mats. Guidance on IKYU benefits: At check-in there was no explanation of Diamond member benefits such as late check-out under IKYU privileges, so we spent our stay unsure whether they were being applied; this felt somewhat unfriendly. [In closing] Because dinner service was perfect, it is truly unfortunate that multiple mistakes occurred at breakfast (although your recovery response was sincere). The property itself is new and wonderful on the hardware side, so we hope for stronger coordination on the service side as well. We would like to visit again.

I guess it can’t be helped...

I understand that the welcome tea service at check-in has been discontinued and that the amenities have changed—given the location and price, that seems unavoidable. However, it felt a bit odd that the person who brought our breakfast tray didn’t say anything and quickly left. They did the same to the guests at the next table, so I wondered if they were in a bad mood. Overall, the staff seemed a bit low on energy. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but the Room was very clean and it’s in an ideal location for exploring. It’s a good Hotel, so I’d like to stay again in the future.

The service was very pleasant, and the Room was clean and comfortable! For dinner this time, we enjoyed the “Menu Saison” course. Each dish was carefully explained, which made it even more enjoyable. We were able to spend another wonderful time.

    Everything was perfect.

We stayed for two nights for my son’s entrance exams. As an annex, it was completely quiet, with an elegant and calming atmosphere throughout. Since the Rooms are only up to the 4th floor, getting around was smooth and we had a comfortable, stress-free stay. We booked a Superior Room, and it was perfectly designed for ease of use with lovely interiors—nothing to complain about. It was an excellent Hotel in every way, truly stress-free. We would love to stay again. I also recommend it to anyone taking entrance exams at a nearby university.

This is my go-to accommodation in Kyoto.

It may be a bit far from the station, but the bus stop is right in front, so it doesn’t feel inconvenient. Above all, it’s nice and quiet. Even the road in front isn’t noisy, which is great.

    Nouvelle Epoque is also amazing!

Nouvelle Epoque is elegant, bright, and wonderfully open. The artistic presentation and Nishijin-ori placemats were exciting. Each dish was delicately and carefully crafted, a joy to experience; the chef’s warmth came through, nourishing both body and mind. Even the snowflake-patterned dessert showed such thoughtful hospitality—Kyoto French cuisine at its finest. In the lounge, I quietly enjoyed wine while gazing at the winter garden, completely absorbed in the atmosphere. The 4th-floor Room was clean, beautiful, quiet, comfortable, and reassuring—everything felt truly top-class, but there were no amenities like lotion, which caught me off guard. When I called, I was told they are provided only upon request. I also enjoyed strolling through the Okazaki Betsuin garden; this refined, calm atmosphere for adults is truly special. I’d love to return.

    I’m not sure.

The location is excellent—right next to Otani Betsuin and close to Heian Shrine—but something felt lacking. The amenities were sparse; at this level, I would expect at least lotion and a hairbrush. There was only one set of glasses and cups, so I had to wash them myself each time. There was no stool in the bathroom, so I had to dry my hair standing up. The champagne in the lounge was too sweet. The garden isn’t on the level of Ueji, of course, but it still felt underwhelming. I had high expectations, so I was a bit disappointed.

    Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

We planned a trip to Kyoto with my two sisters to celebrate my birthday. It was our first stay at Okura Okazaki Bettei, and I deeply appreciate the thoughtful gesture of receiving wine as a birthday gift. The breakfast was very delicious, and next time, I hope to make a reservation for dinner as well during our stay. Thank you for the comfortable and welcoming hospitality on this occasion.
