    I enjoyed the extraordinary experience.

    It was my first visit to Narai, and I was deeply impressed by the effort it must take to preserve such a place. The accommodation blended perfectly into this environment, allowing me to fully enjoy an extraordinary world in both the town and the accommodation. With fresh greenery and blooming flowers, I also appreciated the beautiful spring scenery. Thank you for providing a comfortable stay. The cuisine was refined, visually stunning, and delicious; however, I felt that adding a dish with a bit more rustic charm might have been nice as well.

    Accommodation offering hospitality surrounded by the history and nature of Narai.

    We stayed in a two-bedroom room at the annex, Ueharaya. It was the innermost room, reminiscent of a traditional Kyoto townhouse. The living room on the first floor featured a chic sofa and a record player from its days as a guesthouse, allowing us to enjoy classical music. Although it was early April and slightly chilly at night, the heating inside was so effective that it felt almost too warm. The main building's large communal bath and restaurant are about a 5-minute walk away. However, we were able to experience various forms of relaxation: stargazing after dinner, admiring the beautiful sunrise around 6 AM, feeling the tranquility of Kiso amidst morning mist, and encountering local roadside deities (seven small statues across from a nearby temple). These moments truly allowed us to feel the healing atmosphere of Narai. The meals at this accommodation were exceptional, complemented by thoughtful gestures from staff who went above and beyond our expectations with their meticulous care and quick responses. Due to some stomach issues I had recently developed, I requested last-minute changes to substitute meat dishes with other ingredients just one evening before our stay. Both dinner and breakfast reflected incredible attention to detail that left me deeply impressed. A week prior during their confirmation call for our reservation, I mentioned in passing that my family member had overcome surgery late last year. On arrival day during dessert time, they surprised us with not only an elegant message plate but also flowers accompanying it! Additionally—without any specific request—they prepared sparkling wine back in our room based solely on interpreting celebratory intentions behind my words. Regrettably delayed visits aside due scheduling conflicts earlier—we now cherish having finally experienced such fulfilling hospitality here firsthand! Whether celebrating special occasions or seeking personal rejuvenation—this place comes highly recommended especially if you're undecided yet considering options nearby Narai-juku’s serene ambiance mornings/evenings alike! While not featuring Onsen facilities per se—the large communal bath boasts Hinoki wood construction paired alongside smooth boiled spring water making them equally recommendable experiences overall! Wintertime visitors may anticipate colder temperatures yet simultaneously marveling under majestic starry skies amidst seasonal grandeur awaits ahead too!

    A charming and wonderful atmosphere

    The building, service, cuisine, and alcohol all had a consistent concept and were truly exceptional. For those ordering meals, we recommend choosing the pairing option to fully enjoy the depth and deliciousness of Japanese sake alongside the dishes. We rated the cuisine 4 out of 5. Personally, I would rate it higher than 5; however, during breakfast, a neighboring foreign traveler left much of their meal uneaten. It might be nice to have a slightly more considerate menu for such guests. We stayed here to watch the relay race but now look forward to enjoying this accommodation again next year during the event!

    This was my second v...

    This was my second visit, and I enjoyed it again as there are various types of rooms to choose from. This time, I stayed in a room renovated from a traditional storehouse. Although I was initially concerned about drafts, even during the cold December season, it was perfectly warm and comfortable. The meals were creatively prepared and all very delicious. While unrelated to the accommodation itself, the only disappointment was that the staff at the nearby affiliated "Workshop Bar" were unfriendly. The staff at the accommodation were all very kind and welcoming, which made this contrast quite noticeable and discouraged me from purchasing sake sold there.

    Healing Time in the Dream World of Time Travel

    Narai Accommodation is a place I had only seen in photos and videos before, but visiting in person was truly exciting as the streets vividly retain the atmosphere of the past. This accommodation, renovated from a historic sake brewery dating back to the Edo period, exceeded all expectations. I intentionally avoided gathering too much information beforehand, which made every moment there full of surprises and awe. The traditional architecture has been preserved beautifully while incorporating thoughtful touches for comfort everywhere—simply outstanding. Although the room's bath is not an onsen, attention to detail with bath additives allows you to enjoy an onsen-like experience. The large communal bath that I used in the evening and again in the morning was spacious enough and surprisingly private both times. Dining at a restaurant converted from an old storehouse was perfect as well. Local ingredients were masterfully prepared into dishes featuring wild boar meat or carp—ingredients that might seem unusual but were transformed into exquisite meals by skilled chefs. A young staff member impressively presented hot carp onto plates with great care, showcasing creativity even in presentation style. For the first time during this visit, I also discovered how beautiful lacquerware can be and wanted to purchase some favorite pieces; however, many shops were closed due to it being off-season at Narai Accommodation, and there wasn’t enough time to visit Hirasawa either. Next time, I plan to stay during another season in a different room so that I can make sure to stop by Hirasawa afterward! Lastly but most importantly, my heartfelt thanks go out to all staff members for their warm hospitality!

    A hundred experiences rich in Japanese sentiment

    In mid-February, I visited as a solo traveler for a stay. I started looking for a quiet and calm place, and when I found this property, it just felt right to make the reservation. It turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The staff's hospitality was truly impressive. They spoke about the charms of Narai and Nagano with gentle smiles yet passionately, conveying their respect and love for their hometown far beyond mere service as employees. Room 111 (with high ceilings in the annex) was perfect for a retreat stay—I was thoroughly satisfied! The refined lacquerware provided relaxation, and reading in the small space on the second floor became an amazing experience. With BOSE speakers available, I could play my favorite music; it was exactly the space I had been seeking. The meals were abundant with local ingredients; everything tasted so good that I couldn't stop smiling throughout each dish—who knew carp could be so delicious? After dinner, we enjoyed drinks at the bar next door where there were so many varieties that we could have stayed forever! Also worth mentioning is breakfast—it exceeded expectations both in variety and volume even surprising someone like me who loves food! Of course, every bite was finished because everything tasted exquisite. The large public bath is also very clean—it used to be an old sake brewery apparently—and since not too many people can stay here at once plus each room has its own lovely bathroom facilities both times ended up being private sessions! On check-in day after dining using beautiful lacquerware from nearby shops led us searching next station over which resulted buying wonderful items making this trip highly satisfying indeed. I genuinely wish return again someday soon. Thank you very much providing such wonderful experience during my visit!

    I had a very good stay experience.

    The meals and baths using the ultra-soft water from Narai Stays were excellent. The dinner was a creatively crafted course meal that made the most of the ingredients, while the breakfast featured dishes that simply highlighted the flavors of the ingredients, each with its own character and deliciousness. Additionally, I was impressed by the very high level of the room's atmosphere and the service.

    Stays with the best atmosphere

    A Stays converted from an old sake brewery. The town's atmosphere retains the feel of an old post town, reminiscent of the world of Demon Slayer. We enjoyed the snow and the leisurely time!

Everything, from the atmosphere that blends seamlessly into the town of Narai-juku, to the hospitality of the staff and the cuisine, is simply exceptional!     Everything is excellent.

    I visited BYAKU Narai. It was a wonderful Ryokan where retro and modern blended together, renovated from a sake brewery. Each Room had no TV, allowing for a leisurely and quiet time. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent in quantity and quality, and I was very satisfied. Next time, I am determined to repeat with a Room of different character.

    I had a wonderful birthday.

    I used it to celebrate my wife's birthday. Both the room and the food, as well as the service, were all of a high level, and we were very satisfied. The room was a renovated sake brewery, and I was worried about the cold, but with underfloor heating, including the dressing room and shower room, there was no problem at all. The amenities were also well-stocked. The meals were arranged in an easy-to-eat taste while focusing on local ingredients. There were many overseas guests, but I thought they could enjoy it without any resistance. (I heard they once served hachinoko and it was a big failure, haha) The attached bar also had a wide variety of local sake, local wine, craft gin, etc., making it difficult to choose. The staff were very friendly and provided pleasant service. Since it was my wife's birthday, we used the anniversary plan, and they surprised us with various wonderful arrangements beyond our expectations, which made her very happy. It was also appreciated that juice, tea, and water were available for free. Just one thing, it was my fault for not checking, but the large bath was open until 10 a.m. in the morning, and I was disappointed that I couldn't take one last bath before the 11 a.m. checkout. Overall, we were very satisfied and would like to use it again on special occasions in the future. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Stays where you can enjoy an extraordinary experience

    Since it was a less crowded period, we were able to enjoy the quiet Narai Stays away from the noisy daily life. It was a very cold day, but we received warm hospitality from the young staff, and we were very satisfied with both the meals and the bar, having a very enjoyable time. Due to the cold day, we mainly used the indoor bath. It was a pleasant bathtub, but the floor of the washing area did not warm up easily even when hot water was poured, which was a bit concerning for us elderly. We felt it was a unique and wonderful Facility where you can experience a stay in an extraordinary space of historical streets.

    A small luxury hotel beautifully renovated from a sake brewery.

    As mentioned in the title, it was a hotel with a very atmospheric renovation of a traditional sake brewery and heritage. In winter, old windows that preserve such old elements often let in drafts and make heating less effective, but the renovation was done so well that even on quite cold days, the room was completely comfortable without any coldness. Additionally, the facility and equipment retained their old charm while incorporating good new elements, making it comfortable. The hospitality was also perfect. On the other hand, the meals incorporated local produce, and the ingredients were very good and delicious, but there was a lack of creativity in the flavors. Moreover, I was most looking forward to the pairing of the hotel's sake with the dishes, but out of the eight pairings, only one was Narai sake, which was very disappointing.

    While it's great that local ingredients are used, the dishes are primarily protein-based due to the mountain location, and even by the third or fourth dish, they are served in a portion style that feels lacking overall. Considering that there seem to be many international guests and there are no late-night dining options nearby, revisiting this aspect could significantly enhance satisfaction. Staying in a historic building in a post-town that feels like a time slip is a rare experience, and it feels like a missed opportunity given its high potential, which prompted this post. Please consider this. Additionally, it would be appreciated if makeup remover could be provided at this grade. That said, the mushroom rice and original craft gin were exceptionally delicious, to the point of calling them exquisite. Thank you for the meal.

    The best healing Stays

    We used the property for our 40th wedding anniversary. Thank you for the surprise hospitality and celebratory champagne. Located in the time-slip-like Narai Stays, the exterior blends in while the room offers the best in comfort, facilities, and amenities. We enjoyed delicious coffee by grinding the beans ourselves and spent a relaxing time listening to nostalgic records. A unique experience, thank you to all the staff.
