Reasons to Recommend 【NIPPONIA HOTEL Hakodate Minatomachi】

The hotel is within walking distance from Hakodate Station, so I enjoyed a pleasant walk to the accommodation while sightseeing. The Red Brick Warehouses are close to the port, making it easy to navigate, and with great weather, the walk was both enjoyable and scenic. The hotel's exterior exudes a unique charm with its historic and dignified appearance. Inside, it offers an extraordinary experience that sets it apart from typical accommodations. What I would particularly like to highlight is the exceptional quality of the meals. Dining at the in-house restaurant "Luan" was a delight for both breakfast and dinner. The meticulous preparation of each dish left me in awe; every bite was incredibly delicious, providing continuous surprises and moments of joy. The attention to detail in ingredients, presentation, plate temperature, and perfect timing of service makes this restaurant truly rare nowadays. Perhaps this level of care is possible because they cater to a limited number of guests. The guest rooms were stylishly designed; however, some aspects might be slightly challenging for older guests. For instance, as someone who isn't very tall myself, I found that extra caution was needed due to the relatively high bathtub. Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for the outstanding hospitality provided by all staff members throughout my stay. Thanks to their impeccable service at 【NIPPONIA HOTEL Hakodate Minatomachi】, my trip became truly memorable—highly recommended!

    Highly satisfied.

All staff were friendly, making for a pleasant stay. The kelp bath felt like soaking in broth, which was enjoyable. The room was spacious, and the complimentary drinks in the refrigerator were plentiful, adding to the comfort. For a Multiple Night Stay, having a different breakfast each day was impressive. Even the way fruits were cut varied daily, showing a playful touch.

    Kelp Bath!

This was my first long-awaited trip to Hakodate. I arrived at the Hotel a little early and left my luggage, during which I received a detailed guide to local attractions. Thanks to this, I was able to visit places I wouldn't have found on my own and enjoyed exploring them with great interest. After returning to the Hotel, I was surprised when they recommended trying the kelp bath. Skeptical at first, I gave it a try and found the slippery texture amusing while feeling very relaxed. The meals afterward—both dinner and breakfast—were of consistently high quality and absolutely delicious. From start to finish, the staff provided excellent service for which I'm truly grateful; however, there was one small issue: I wasn't sure how to contact the front desk for non-emergency matters (perhaps I just missed it), so having clear instructions would be helpful in such cases. Thanks to NIPPONIA's services, I've been able to visit places across the whole country that are not often traveled—and I've enjoyed every trip! I'm already looking forward to imagining where I'll go next!

    The dinner was delicious.

It was a lovely Hotel standing in a brick warehouse. I was surprised to see long pillars from inside the Room! It was beautifully renovated, retaining the traces of its warehouse era. The highlight was the dinner. The French cuisine made with ingredients from Southern Hokkaido was truly delicious. The wine selection was a bit lacking, so I hope they can increase the variety of Hokkaido wines. With a small number of Rooms, it was quiet and I could relax. It is a recommended Stays for solo travelers.

    It is a good Hotel.

It has a stylish brick atmosphere. It was a clean Hotel. The hospitality was good and polite, but not attentive. The Room was clean and the bathroom was also clean, but the lighting was dim. The amenities were well-stocked, including lotion. Breakfast had a lot of sweet items. I was happy that there were many types of bread, so I was full.

    Enjoy the Snowy Hakodate

My first trip to Hakodate was during the snowy Christmas season. This property is a renovated 100-year-old brick warehouse, and I was drawn to its concept, which led me to decide to stay. The location is great for sightseeing, and the staff provided me with sightseeing suggestions at check-in, which was very helpful as I was not well-prepared. The handmade local sightseeing map was also easy to understand and helpful. I had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel for two days, and it was a great decision. The course featured two fish dishes as the main, and it was truly delicious with ample content. (Meat dishes can be added for an additional charge.) I enjoyed alcohol pairings, including local Hakodate Brewery's Goppo and, thanks to the staff's kindness, Kitazato potato shochu. The Christmas illuminations were beautiful, and I fully enjoyed the pure white snowy scenery of Hakodate. At the recommended Jiyu Market's "Sushi Masa," I was seated at the perfect timing during lunchtime and savored exquisite sushi. After checking out, I was warmly seen off until I was out of sight. Thank you very much. I will be in your care again when I visit Hakodate.

Comfortable Stay in the Bay Area

I have stayed at various NIPPONIA hotels before. This place maintains the concept and quality of service of NIPPONIA, but it is not one of those local-style traditional house Stays. It is a comfortable hotel-style renovation of a sturdy warehouse in the middle of the city port. There are no issues with pest control typical of old houses, difficulties with handling keys due to old doors, or concerns about surrounding noise. There is also a TV. It is accessible on foot from Hakodate Station and the morning market, and it is conveniently located for exploring the Bay Area and the Old Public Hall area. You can also easily obtain local sweets perfect for tea in your Room from a place close to the Hotel. It is closely connected to the shopping area. Dinner was wonderful, but breakfast was a Western-style breakfast that you cannot experience at other NIPPONIA properties. It was satisfying enough to be considered a dinner. During this trip to Hakodate, I also stayed at other properties. Even in comparison, the hospitality of the staff, who carefully convey local information and the concept of local production for local consumption of ingredients and sake, made me once again appreciate the excellence of NIPPONIA.

    Wonderful Hotel

It was a very charming Hotel made of bricks. There was a wide selection of alcohol, and the service was excellent. They kindly provided explanations about dining spots, but unfortunately, the place they recommended was closed when we arrived, which was disappointing. I wish they had researched more thoroughly before recommending it. The cleanliness was perfect.

It was amazing this time as well!

I stayed for one night again this December, and both the hospitality and the cuisine were as excellent as I had hoped! The location is convenient for visiting Mount Hakodate and the Christmas Fantasy venue, making it a Hotel you can enjoy staying at any time of the year without getting bored. What made me especially happy this time was being greeted with a "Welcome back" at check-in. I believe they recognized that I had stayed here several times before, which made me feel both happy and a little shy... I plan to stay again next year, and when I do, I’d like to greet them with a cheerful "I’m back!"

    A Christmas tree like jewelry

A delicate tree that shines like a jewel towering by the seaside amidst the dancing snow, such a beautiful Christmas tree... I felt it was worth seeing, especially with the fireworks that stand out against the winter night sky. The meals at the Hotel make use of ingredients unique to Hokkaido, and the salmon quiche for breakfast contains rice, which I was told has roots in Russian food culture. It was very delicious. Thanks to the snow boots recommended in advance by the Hotel staff, I was able to fully enjoy the winter scenery of Hakodate. Thank you very much.

    First Time in Hakodate

I stayed for one night on my first trip to Hakodate. The service was very polite and pleasant from the time of check-in. It was a wonderful space renovated from a brick warehouse over 100 years old. The room was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The bath was also spacious and relaxing. Originally, it was a kelp warehouse, and using kelp instead of bath additives was very innovative. The highly-rated breakfast was also very satisfying. The meal was very delicious. I used it for a trip with my elderly mother, and it turned out to be a truly wonderful trip, and my mother was delighted. I will definitely use it again when I visit Hakodate. Thank you very much.

Very satisfied with the precious renovated Hotel!

First trip to Hakodate as a couple! We were drawn to stay by the warmth of the staff mentioned in the reviews, and we were very satisfied as the reviews said. The dinner was elaborate, providing a sense of satisfaction that surely cannot be experienced elsewhere. Additionally, we were soothed by the hospitality and professionalism of the staff. Highly recommended for an adult trip.

    First time in Hokkaido

This was my first trip to Hokkaido. I used this Hotel while sightseeing. The red brick warehouse was, of course, wonderful, but the hospitality was courteous, making it a very pleasant day. The Room was spacious and very comfortable. It was a place that made me want to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Stays of Hospitality

After deciding on Hakodate as the travel destination, I began searching for a property and eventually narrowed it down to two candidates. One of the candidates, a property at Yukawa Onsen, left me feeling uncomfortable due to email exchanges with the property after the reservation, so I ultimately stayed here. This property is recommended not for those seeking luxurious facilities like pools, large baths, and onsen, or stunning views from high-floor rooms, or extensive breakfast and dinner buffets, but for those who find value in staying at a historical building and spending time leisurely. With a history as a warehouse for storing kelp, a fine dried kelp for the bathtub is placed in a corner of the lobby, allowing you to feel like an ingredient in a hot pot, and it should be good for your skin. The breakfast is noteworthy, with a Western-style prefix menu that changes daily. I was amazed by the high level of fruit carving skills. With only nine rooms, I had concerns about the service before staying, but I felt the hospitality was sufficient. After checking out, it's rare to find a hotel where the staff continues to bow until you turn the corner and are out of sight, even though you're not a VIP.

If you like small hotels, please do

I find it cumbersome to line up for breakfast buffets and am not fond of large crowds, so I inevitably chose to stay at this property. The hotel's concept of "kombu" is evident not only in the interior design but also in the tea snacks, bath, and breakfast butter, allowing guests to fully experience the cultural history through the facility. Although it may be inappropriate to mention here, I must say that the VMG series of NIPPONIA properties tend to overemphasize the VMG group feel, which is becoming tiresome. I want to experience the "NIPPONIA brand" rather than VMG. Please create a sense of unity by collaborating with the local community-operated NIPPONIA. This is my main point.

    Very comfortable Hotel

First of all, the response when I inquired in advance was very pleasant. They answered our questions and consultations politely and made accurate suggestions, which was helpful. Even after arrival, the staff's response was very pleasant and friendly. Although it is a bit far from Hakodate Station, it is located in the red brick warehouse area and close to the tram, making it easy to get around. The night sightseeing taxi was also nice. A retro exterior with a modern interior. The Room had enough space to relax. The bathroom also had ample space, allowing us to enjoy a kelp bath. The meals were elaborate and very delicious. Since there were only a few groups in the space, we could relax. The city of Hakodate was beautiful and charming. A friend who wants to visit Hakodate someday knew about this Hotel and was very interested. Thank you for taking care of us.

    As expected from an ...

As expected from an auberge, the meals were absolutely delicious. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. Given the location, we tend to eat sushi or seafood bowls often, but the Nordic-style French cuisine here, including the fish and crab, was incredibly tasty. Also, the bread was so good that we had seconds (laughs). The location was excellent, making it perfect for sightseeing. The Room was lovely, and the staff treated us very well. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

Reservation looking forward to renovated architecture. Enjoyed a calm and quiet time amidst the charm that makes use of the original structure and historical background. The staff's response was also heartwarming at the Hotel. The breakfast menu changed daily, and I enjoyed it deliciously. Thanks to you, it became a memorable trip. I was grateful for having a room on the first floor for my elderly parents, but I think it would have been more reassuring if there were bath chair amenities prepared.

    Wonderful!

I stayed last month. Instead of bath salts, I was given kelp and enjoyed a kelp bath! It was a great conversation starter, and the access was convenient as it was not far from the tram station, with restaurants nearby, making it perfect. The front desk staff provided detailed explanations about nearby restaurants and tourist spots during my stay, which was also appreciated. The property is designed to utilize historical buildings, and I couldn't stop taking photos from the front desk. In terms of soundproofing, there were some voices from outside the window during the daytime, but it was quiet at night, so it wasn't too bothersome. I would love to stay again.

It's disappointing that it doesn't feel worth the Accommodation Fee.

The room and bath were very clean and had a good atmosphere. However, the dining area was in front of the front desk and shared with the hotel entrance, so it felt lacking in luxury despite the high accommodation cost. It is probably unavoidable due to the lingering smell from before the renovation into a hotel, but the common areas still have a dried goods smell, which is distracting during meals. Also, to be honest, the breakfast was not impressive at all, and I couldn't feel any sense of Hokkaido.
