This is our family’s favorite accommodation.

Wanting my younger elementary-school daughter to experience traditional Japanese ways of life and sake brewery culture, we chose NIPPONIA Accommodation for our trip last summer, visiting the Shigeru Mizuki Museum in Sakaiminato and Izumo Taisha Shrine. Each Room has its own distinct character, and last year we stayed in Dogumawari. My daughter was thrilled by the impressive beams and the two-story Room, and kept saying, “I want to stay at that wooden Hotel again.” The staff struck the perfect balance—never intrusive, yet warmly watching over us—and that comfort became a wonderful memory for both my daughter and me. So this year we decided, “Let’s go back to the wooden Hotel!” and returned. This time we stayed at Kuramoto. It was a Room with a garden like something out of a Yasujirō Ozu film, and we spent a relaxed summer day listening to cicadas. The nearby restaurants, cafés, and soy sauce shop were all small but truly lovely. Thank you for giving us such wonderful summer memories. My daughter and I are already talking about coming back again.

    We had a great time.

The town itself isn’t very large, but the street where the Accommodation is located has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere—perfect for anyone who wants to slow down and unwind. The bath is amazing. Even during the hottest time of year in the city, it’s a bit cooler here, and in the morning you can open the window and let in a refreshing breeze. Not only the bath, but also the wooden building was wonderful—the gentle scent of wood as you move around felt incredibly soothing.

We were able to fully enjoy the hidden charms of Izumo.

We stayed here on our summer family trip while completing our family mission to visit all five National Treasure castle keeps—our final stop was Matsue Castle—and for our visit to Izumo Taisha Shrine. Thanks to this Accommodation, we were able to experience a truly deep side of Izumo in many places, making it a very meaningful journey. Many people stay around Izumo Taisha, in central Matsue, or at Tamatsukuri Onsen, but by choosing this place we were able to discover many different aspects of Izumo. The Accommodation was comfortable and wonderfully nostalgic, and we are grateful to all the staff. Thank you very much. The only disappointment was that we couldn’t quite get used to Izumo’s distinctive seasonings such as soy sauce. Still, it was a valuable experience to encounter a food culture quite different from what we’re used to in the Kanto region. We would love to stay at other NIPPONIA Accommodations as well.

    The food is delicious.

We were very satisfied with our stay. The sake was great, but the meals (both dinner and breakfast) were especially memorable. Not having a TV in the Room also suited us well, as it allowed for a quiet stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Momen Kaido.

I love NIPPONIA, and this time I chose to stay at Momen Kaido because of the all-you-can-drink sake. I was very satisfied with both the Room and the meals, and I also really liked the Momen Kaido area itself. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    NIPPONIA Momen Kaido

We stayed here for a family trip. We stayed in a Room renovated from inside a sake brewery, and it was very sophisticated and relaxing. Breakfast and dinner are delivered to the Room, but since it’s not the typical Ryokan-style tatami dining setup, it felt homey—like having meals at a villa or while glamping. Alcohol is all-you-can-drink on the reception floor, so if we ran out we could just go get more, and we enjoyed it without hesitation. There were many beautifully designed sake flasks and cups as well, which made using them part of the fun. The meals were also just the right amount—not too much or too little—which I really appreciated. The bath is not an Onsen, but the tub was spacious, and the wash area was very large and easy to use. The lighting was a bit dim for doing makeup, but there was a tabletop mirror with built-in lights—this was my first time feeling that doing makeup there would actually be easy. It’s an Accommodation filled with thoughtful touches throughout, so I’d love to return if I have another chance.

An exceptional accommodation with a unique atmosphere found only here.

The charming streets surrounding the ryokan already set the mood even before arrival, making me think, "This must be a great ryokan." Passing through the pure white noren curtain, I was greeted by a clean and stylishly renovated dining area that retained the atmosphere of its former life as a sake brewery. The open kitchen counter was once used for selling sake by measure—a fascinating detail that added to its charm. The courtyard view from the room was beautifully maintained, almost like a scene from a drama set, and I couldn't help but admire it. I also loved the lacquered table in the room, which carried an air of nostalgia from bygone days. Snapping photos with the courtyard as a backdrop through large windows made me exclaim, "It feels just like home!"—though admittedly far more luxurious than my actual home! For bathing, I visited a nearby natural Onsen facility. It was spacious and quite enjoyable. After returning from the bath, I was delighted to find an all-you-can-drink Japanese sake service available—an absolute highlight! Whether chilled or warm, there were various brands to savor alongside seasonal dishes perfectly paired with sake. The staff were friendly and welcoming; I'd love to stay here again if given another opportunity!

    地方探訪

A tranquil accommodation. The highlight is the cuisine.

We stayed for one night in November as a family (my wife and two children). The room we stayed in at "Dougu Meguri" had a wood-burning stove, which fascinated the children as it was their first time experiencing one. They thoroughly enjoyed adding firewood to the stove. Both dinner and breakfast were rich in flavor, with the dashi preparation and soy sauce depth perfectly matching our tastes. The overall dishes were full of umami, which delighted my wife as well. The duck hot pot was particularly memorable, showcasing the rich flavors of duck, dashi, and soy sauce. The soba noodles served at the end were carefully prepared, allowing us to enjoy every moment of our meal. Among all accommodations we've stayed at so far, this was one of the most impressive dining experiences. The staff provided attentive service, making it a comfortable stay even with children. It was a peaceful accommodation where we could relax without worry. Although the town where this accommodation is located is not large, exploring it revealed traces of its history in cotton production, sake brewing, and soy sauce making. Unlike bustling tourist destinations, it has a calm atmosphere that felt perfect for family walks. The building we stayed in was originally a renovated sake brewery with an elegant ambiance that made our stay very comfortable. We also visited "Izumo Enmusubi Onsen Yurari" nearby—a wonderful onsen with high-temperature water that warmed us thoroughly. Overall, this accommodation offered serene moments throughout our stay. We hope to visit again during another season!

    It was a lovely Room.

This was our first time staying at this accommodation. We chose the "Dougu Mawari" room, and upon entering, we couldn't help but exclaim "Wow!" at the high ceiling and beautiful design. It was a wonderful room. Our family of four stayed here, with our two sons sleeping upstairs in the loft-like area, while my husband and I (the older ones!) slept on the beds downstairs. The spacious room allowed for enough distance between each bed, so we could all sleep comfortably without any disturbances. As this used to be a sake brewery, Japanese sake is all-inclusive! Unfortunately, we are not big drinkers, which was a bit disappointing for us... But for sake lovers, this would be amazing! We also enjoyed strolling around the nearby Cotton Road during our pleasant trip to Izumo.

    Delicious cuisine

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. The use of local ingredients enhanced the flavors, and the chef's careful preparation made every dish, from appetizers to desserts, exceptional. We also enjoyed the local sake. The hospitality was attentive, creating a relaxing atmosphere that allowed us to unwind completely. Thank you very much!

    Second Stay

The hospitality was excellent. The Onsen is just a short walk away, offering a local public bath experience. A room for four people. The drinks, food, and overall experience were amazing as always. We look forward to visiting again during the colder season!

This accommodation offers a beautifully arranged structure and rooms, providing a serene and luxurious experience for adults. The elegant interior, with a subtle scent of wood, allowed me to relax both physically and mentally. With the inclusive local sake tasting, I enjoyed comparing different Shimane sakes, which also helped me choose the perfect one as a souvenir. Breakfast was delightful with plenty of dishes made from local ingredients. The clam miso soup was especially delicious! During this stay, I had the pleasure of reuniting with a dear friend after a long time. This wonderful accommodation made our time together truly special. I would love to stay here again!

Indulge in fine drinks and exquisite cuisine.

I stayed at the accommodation to experience sake with a senior who loves Japanese sake. Since I rarely have the chance to drink sake from Izumo, I was really looking forward to it, and it did not disappoint—what a delightful brew! Above all, I was thoroughly satisfied with the exquisite dishes that perfectly complemented the sake. Sipping and savoring bite by bite, two hours flew by in no time. Even during breakfast, I enjoyed each carefully prepared dish and paired it with another sip of sake. The kindness of the staff also left an impression on me, and I look forward to returning for another stay someday!

A lifestyle expressed throughout the entire town

The Hotel itself was great, but the atmosphere expressed throughout the entire Cotton Road area was charming and delightful. The meals were meticulously prepared and delicious, and I ended up drinking too much while experimenting with pairings of sake.

I stayed on the second floor of an accommodation that used to be a sake brewery. The structure features thick beams, steep stairs, and a nostalgic atmosphere. The room is well-equipped with sufficient amenities, including a coffee bean set. High-quality shampoo is provided. There was an all-you-can-drink selection of sake, and I tried several chilled varieties. The plan included breakfast centered around fermented foods with distinct sweetness, along with shijimi clam soup. However, the rice was too soft for my taste. The staff kindly helped me find a restaurant for dinner, which was very helpful and thoughtful. I traveled by train and on foot, but using a car might be more convenient.

The property is a renovated traditional building, so there may be some unavoidable noise issues. However, the water facilities have been thoroughly renovated, ensuring a comfortable stay. The hinoki cypress bath was particularly delightful with its soothing aroma, providing a relaxing experience. The meals and free-flowing sake were also excellent. Although many of the staff are young, their dedication and effort were evident in their pleasant service.

    Kojiya All-Inclusive Use

At the end of the year, I stayed as a solo guest. What surprised me the most was the service of Japanese sake. As a sake lover, the service of being able to drink more than 15 brands of local sake in my room was very attractive. Due to time constraints, I couldn't order it this time, but there is also a service for side dishes, so I definitely want to use it next time. I had dinner at Ikuma and breakfast in the Hotel, and both were very delicious. The staff's response was also comfortable. Due to the nature of the building, there are some unavoidable concerns about security, but I still want to come back. It was a Hotel that made me feel that way.
