    We thoroughly enjoyed not only exquisite crab dishes but also the Onsen.

    Revisited on December 12, 2025. As last year, we thoroughly enjoyed Matsuba crab. Since female crab is only available until the end of the year, we visited in December. We ordered an additional female crab and upgraded the dried fish at breakfast to nodoguro. This time, we also made a Reservation for a private Onsen bath to fully enjoy the Onsen. The private bath was excellent—if there’s availability, I highly recommend trying it. Our Room this time was Oborozuki, and the semi-open-air bath in the Room allows you to adjust the depth. This was very convenient: keep it shallow when getting in and out, and make it deeper when soaking. Lastly, it seems some guests found the executive chef’s performance a bit overbearing, but it didn’t bother me at all—perhaps because I’ve experienced much flashier performances overseas many times. We’d like to return again next year.

    Celebration of the 77th Birthday

    Due to a flight cancellation on the day, I traveled to Okayama by bullet train, but morning trains were suspended due to snow, resulting in a 4-hour wait for a connection. Although I considered giving up, my desire to enjoy delicious crab won out, and I persevered. It took 11 hours from leaving home to arrive. For dinner, I enjoyed premium Matsuba crab at the counter and was more than satisfied with the dishes that exceeded my expectations—it made all the effort worthwhile. Additionally, thanks to the thoughtful hospitality of the head chef and staff members, I had an enjoyable time. On a side note, is it possible to order Tottori's Koshihikari rice served at breakfast? It became a memorable celebration for my 77th birthday. Thank you very much!

    There was a gap between the concept and the actual experience.

    The concept of the accommodation, "A ryokan restaurant where you can feel special moments and happiness," felt significantly different from the actual experience. Overall, it gives a strong impression of being geared towards foreign tourists, which may not suit those who value tranquility and elegance. The cuisine is characterized by its performance aspect, but it may leave an impression of inconsistency if you expect refinement or delicacy. As for the crab dishes, they did not feel as special as advertised; similar or even better options can be enjoyed elsewhere. That said, the efforts of the young staff were noticeable and appreciated. For those seeking a calm and spacious hospitality typical of Japanese ryokans, this is an accommodation worth researching in advance.

    A Long-Awaited Getaway for Two

    We visited Izumo Taisha and stayed here on our way back. It was a rare trip for just the two of us, leaving the kids behind. The service, room, amenities, and facility were all impeccable. Hospitality could be felt in every detail and corner. We enjoyed the Onsen multiple times. Above all, the food was outstanding—not only delicious but also beautifully presented with exquisite tableware and plating. The menu offered a mix of Japanese and Western dishes, which kept it exciting until the end without feeling repetitive like typical Japanese kaiseki meals often do. Looking back at photos now brings back happy memories that make me smile. It truly became an unforgettable trip for us—thank you so much! I’ve already recommended this place to my gourmet-loving parents as well!

    The No.1 Inn You'll Want to Visit Again

    Thank you for providing us with a wonderful time. Although the weather outside was not favorable for a walk, we enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere inside the accommodation and our room. The room we stayed in had an exquisite design with attention to detail, creating a very pleasant ambiance. As someone who has recently become particularly fond of onsens, I thoroughly enjoyed the semi-open-air bath with its excellent water quality multiple times. The dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious, and I could feel the chef's meticulous care in every dish and beautiful presentation, making each meal an unforgettable experience. The thoughtful hospitality of all the staff also reflected the essence of what Shiontei aims to provide. Seeing Yokoyama Taikan's painting displayed in your special art room inspired us to visit Adachi Museum of Art on our way back home. I look forward to visiting again during another season.

    Excellent

    The meals were very delicious and just the right amount. We thoroughly enjoyed them. The room bath was comfortable, and the private Onsen was also great. Kaike Onsen has excellent water quality, which we loved. Although it is located along the road, once you step inside, it feels quiet and special. The staff were kind and made our stay very pleasant. We would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much! The only downside is that it's a bit far away.

    Excellent in every way.

    Everything, from the warm welcome to the room, cuisine, and bath, was absolutely exceptional. The dishes were served at the perfect temperature—warm dishes warm and cold dishes cold—with even the plates reflecting this attention to detail. It was a wonderful Ryokan where we could truly feel the care and thoughtfulness of the head chef and all staff members. This was our first visit, but we definitely want to come back again. The bath with an open-air option provided a truly extraordinary experience. Next time, we will reserve Mosa shrimp in advance for our visit!

    This is the ultimate crab experience.

    Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality once again. Thanks to you, I was able to fully enjoy the baths as always, leaving my skin and face smooth and glowing. The crab dishes were absolutely satisfying beyond words, and any worries about finishing them quickly disappeared. Even my elderly mother enjoyed every bite with ease. The seasoning of the crab here is exceptional—perfectly salted with a lingering sweetness and no bitterness at all. Despite the generous portions, we never got tired of it and savored every bite until the end—truly impressive! The chef's attention to detail was also greatly appreciated. It was only a little disappointing that I couldn't have my favorite pound cake this time. However, the welcome fruits were delicious and helped refresh us after dealing with unexpected snowfall out of season. We look forward to visiting again!

    Crab Lovers

    As a crab enthusiast, I make it a point to stay at my favorite accommodation for a Multiple Night Stay every year to indulge in crabs. I've enjoyed dishes like Shibayama Gold and Taiza Crab here. Although I had a regular accommodation before, discovering this place captivated me entirely, making it my new favorite. Starting from February last year, I stayed here three times in February and December. The head chef's exquisite dishes are truly creative, emphasizing seasonal ingredients while carefully extracting flavors from vegetables at around 50 degrees without destroying their enzymes—resulting in an incredibly rich soup that I could drink every day. The freshness of the crab is unparalleled; the sashimi is adorned with an abundance of gold flakes, adding luxury and perfectly complementing Japanese sake. Even the sake is served in tin vessels sprinkled with gold flakes—I ended up ordering three servings! The freshly cooked rice served at this accommodation is exceptional! As someone who prefers rice over bread, it reminded me how wonderful Japanese cuisine can be. The Room was impeccably clean, including the balcony area—a detail that impressed me greatly. Relaxing in the coffee lounge while enjoying nuts and gazing at clouds through the window felt truly elegant. The staff's hospitality was outstanding—they refilled water or offered seconds of rice and miso soup with perfect timing before we even asked! Truly remarkable service! From check-in to being shown to our Room by a smiling staff member who provided clear explanations to excellent interactions during meals where chefs explained each dish—it was all exceptional. Every aspect of this accommodation makes you want to extend your stay for Multiple Night Stays. This time marked the final day of my crab journey here—and what an incredible conclusion it was! Next time, I'd love to visit during seasons other than crab season as well.

    Everything was well-prepared, allowing for a comfortable stay. The cuisine was exceptional, delighting both the eyes and the palate. The crab was exquisite and unmatched elsewhere. The hot rolled omelet and grilled flounder at breakfast were also delicious.

    Stay at Shiontei.

    We recently stayed for the first time at Shiontei in Kaike Onsen for one night (including dinner and breakfast) with my wife, and everything from the facility, service, meal quality, to the onsen attached to our room was exceptional. We are truly glad we chose this accommodation. In particular, we enjoyed dinner at the counter seats where we could watch the chef at work and listen to various stories about the dishes, making our meal even more delightful. We also deeply appreciate the thoughtful care of all staff members. Thank you very much!

    Experience the ultimate Matsuba Crab Plan.

    Stayed on November 15, 2024, and enjoyed the Premium Matsuba Crab Plan. As expected from one of Japan's top luxury ryokans, the price was high but well worth it. The "Premium Crab Lava Stone Steamed Dish" was the best steamed crab I've ever had. As mentioned in other reviews, I recommend choosing a counter seat if possible. Not only can you enjoy delightful conversations with the head chef, but you can also watch your crab being grilled right in front of you. Grilling crab to medium-rare is quite challenging for amateurs. For timing, I suggest visiting between the Matsuba Crab season opening day and late December. For an additional option costing over 10,000 yen, you can also savor female crabs. The dried nodoguro fish served at breakfast was exquisite! If you're an onsen enthusiast, consider reserving a private bath as well. While this visit focused on crab dishes, I plan to reserve a private bath next time. The cuisine, room quality, onsen experience, and service were all exceptional here! The food especially stands out as the head chef is also the manager of this accommodation. I look forward to revisiting during crab season in 2025!

    I stayed at this Property last year and found it so comfortable that I decided to visit again. This time, I made a Reservation for a meal at the counter. Last year, I enjoyed the delicious crab, but this year, the crab tasted even sweeter and more delicious. I was deeply impressed by the chef's dedication and creativity in providing such wonderful dishes. Thank you for casually chatting with me as well. The Onsen in the Room is also excellent, as it retains warmth and prevents chills. Additionally, I truly appreciate the thoughtful care from all the staff members. Although it takes 7 hours one way to get here, I would love to visit again.

    A Property with Exquisite Cuisine

    For an annual indulgence, we visit Tottori in winter to enjoy Matsuba crab. Since our first visit two years ago, Shiontei has been our only choice. The head chef's masterful skills in preparing the enormous Matsuba crab right before your eyes create an exquisite crab cuisine experience that is truly impressive. We highly recommend the counter seats. The staff's hospitality, including their smiles and attentiveness, is impeccable. Once again, we had an extraordinary time. Next time, we hope to visit during the rock oyster season. Thank you for the flowers to celebrate my wife's birthday.

    A Property you'd want to recommend to others

    Stayed at the Property in search of delicious crab. Thoroughly satisfied with the simple yet new discoveries, such as comparing the flavors of boiled crab miso and grilled crab miso in the shell. The meals reflected the chef's dedication, not just the crab dishes. The Room was impeccably clean, the Onsen water was pleasant, and I had a comfortable stay. The staff were attentive, and I felt it was rare to receive such exceptional care. I will visit again.

    A tranquil Stays

    I visited for the first time because of its good reputation. The onsen in Kaike has a very good quality, so I was happy to have an onsen in the room. The room had a calm atmosphere, and all the amenities, free drinks, and equipment were well-prepared, so there was no inconvenience. I also received a welcome sparkling wine, and the pound cake was incredibly delicious and impressive. Unusually for an onsen, it was fun to enjoy the fragrance by putting fruits in the bathtub. It had been a while since I visited Kaike Onsen, and the quality of the onsen was excellent. I enjoyed the onsen many times, hydrating with the room's drinks after each bath. The dishes were beautifully presented and visually enjoyable, and I was able to enjoy the seasonal ingredients of San'in, prepared with ingenuity. I had a delicious and enjoyable meal with sake. The breakfast was also just the right amount and was good. However, one disappointment regarding the meals was that this time of year is the season for delicious new rice in the San'in region, such as Daisen and Okuizumo. However, both dinner and breakfast did not include white rice, only porridge and ancient rice. Of course, those were also delicious, but I was looking forward to eating the local new rice during the autumn new rice season, so it was disappointing. I would have been completely satisfied if I could have chosen white rice. Regarding the service, it was very polite and not bad. However, although it was polite, I felt it was a bit excessive. I understand it is a reflection of the desire to welcome and entertain guests, but honestly, having a line of staff to greet and see off was a bit intimidating. It might just be that I'm not used to such service, but I felt that two or three people would have been sufficient for greetings and farewells. They ran to the car to greet us upon arrival, which surprised me a bit... I think they are doing their best to provide good service, but I felt a bit on guard, so it would have been more comfortable if there was a bit more distance. That said, this is a personal impression and not a complaint. I believe it is undoubtedly a very good property.

    amazing!

    The dishes prepared by the chef are all delicious. The indescribable taste of the dashi was particularly noteworthy. Also, the room was spacious and allowed for ample relaxation. The onsen open-air bath in the room was large and allowed for a leisurely soak. The quality of the spring was good, and it relieved my body fatigue. If there is one request, it would be that the Japan Sea cannot be seen from the onsen open-air bath. If only that were possible, it would have been perfect. However, the hospitality of the staff surpassed that.
