I stayed at a lower rate than usual with the grand opening commemorative Plan, but I was not satisfied. I checked in at 3:00 PM, but the only dinner time options were 5:30 PM, 8:00 PM, or 8:30 PM. I think it would be better to choose the 5:30 PM Plan or the 8:00 PM Plan from the start. I felt this Hotel focuses more on quantity than quality.

Very satisfying Onsen! An appealing Onsen Ryokan with room for improvement in its Facility amenities.

We stayed as a family, and what impressed us most was the excellent meals and the wonderful Onsen. Dinner included sashimi such as spiny lobster and abalone, plus an all-you-can-eat sushi option. The sushi was about what you’d expect for all-you-can-eat in terms of quality, but there was a wide variety and generous portions, so overall we were very satisfied. Perhaps because it has been rebranded, the dinner venue is a calm space with an upscale feel, with slightly dim lighting. It creates a relaxed atmosphere for dining, though this style may not suit everyone. As for the Facility side, we were a little disappointed that services like the open-air bath in the Room and the footbath that used to be available have ended. Also, in the first Room we were shown, the toilet wouldn’t flush; however, staff promptly moved us to another Room, and their quick response left a great impression. That said, even in the new Room one of the bathroom lights flickered, so some parts of the Accommodation do feel dated. Repairs were also being carried out in the large public bath area (communal bath), so if you prioritize brand-new facilities or maximum comfort, it’s best to keep that in mind when booking. Even so, this Ryokan’s Onsen is truly outstanding. The water quality is exceptional—after bathing we felt warmed through to our core and our travel fatigue melted away. We also noticed small bumps on our child’s feet improved during our stay, which really made us feel how effective it was. The simple lounge where you can freely help yourself to coffee was convenient as well; however, several times we saw small children knock over tables because they tip easily. Improving this would make it safer and more comfortable to use. While there are some Facility-related issues to be aware of, they are more than outweighed by how satisfying the Onsen is—highly recommended for hot-spring lovers. The food was delicious too.

We weren’t fully prepared yet, but we look forward to what’s next.

The Room is spacious and comfortable. I arrived after 4:00 pm, and dinner starting at 8:15 pm felt unusually late for me, but I was delighted with the fresh sashimi featuring spiny lobster, abalone, and turban shell. Having all-you-can-eat nigiri sushi to finish the meal was a first-time experience for me. Breakfast was also wonderfully varied—13 small side dishes plus warm chicken soboro with egg yolk, simmered golden eye snapper, and pork miso soup—and everything was so delicious that I couldn’t help but overeat. Unfortunately, the temperature control of the hot spring source still seems insufficient. The two large public baths and the open-air bath were barely tolerable due to the high temperature (probably around 42°C), so I couldn’t soak comfortably for long; I hope this will be improved. The staff were all friendly and served us with smiles, making for a pleasant stay. Since it has only recently reopened after renovations, I look forward to seeing further improvements next time.

I booked after the reopening, but it was disappointing.

My wife and I love going to an Onsen, so we were looking for a good Ryokan when we found this Accommodation. The opening anniversary price was a great deal, so we made a Reservation. We booked without knowing anything about the previous Ryokan or having any prior information. When we arrived, we were told to wait at the drink corner until our Room was ready. We arrived about 30 minutes early, so that was understandable, but even after it was about 10 minutes past 3:00 p.m., nothing happened. Another female guest who already had her key suggested that we should go to the front desk. When we did, there was no apology for the wait—we were simply handed the key. At that point, I started to feel uneasy. After entering the Room and looking around, I noticed there was a ceramic open-air bath on the balcony, but it could not be used; only the unit bath was available. The Room is spacious as a suite, but there is also a dining area that ended up being wasted space since meals are not served in-room. The large public bath switches between morning and evening sessions. At Shimogamo-tei (the one we used first), the open-air bath had an issue and could not be used at that time. After dinner it was available again and turned out to be very nice. The bath at Nonohana-tei was also good, but the cypress open-air bath was extremely hot and I couldn’t get in. There are three free private baths and four paid ones; however, one of the free baths and two of the paid baths were out of service, so the remaining free options were crowded. For dinner, when we arrived at the venue, staff seemed flustered and asked us to wait—apparently there had been some mistake with preparations—and then seated us at counter seats. My wife planned to go straight to the Onsen after dinner without returning to our Room first and had her belongings with her; when she asked for a basket for her items she was told they didn’t have one, which added to our frustration. When I mentioned that table or sofa seating would allow us to place our belongings beside us (unlike counter seating), I was told that counter seats are “better” because you can view the aquarium—but when we were seated on sofa seats the next morning during breakfast, those seats actually offered a better view of it. I’ve listed many complaints here; overall my impression is simply that they are understaffed—there aren’t enough people. That said, those currently working were doing their best. Still, I think they should have prepared every corner of their Facility more thoroughly before opening. Because we stayed at an opening anniversary price (Accommodation Fee), it wasn’t enough to make me furious—but dissatisfaction built up throughout our stay. If this returns to regular pricing later on (Accommodation Fee), my evaluation would be much harsher, and I would not consider returning.

The Room was appealing, but the process felt a bit cumbersome.

The Room felt like a suite, with an appealing and spacious layout. It would have been even more attractive if the open-air barrel bath installed in the Room had been usable... The Ryokan’s layout was a bit maze-like, and features such as the garden water station were interesting, but for someone like me with mobility issues, there were moments when I had to be careful on stone stairways, which was disappointing. I felt that handrails should have been installed on the stairs. Because we arrived a little late and breakfast was after 9:00 a.m., we ended up departing and checking out around 11:00 a.m., which was disappointing because it made it hard to plan our time. Although our breakfast Reservation time was 9:00 a.m., we had to wait about 30 minutes, and as a result we didn’t have much flexibility in the morning. At the dining area, it was also disappointing to see delays during dinner service. Regarding Facility amenities, there were no power outlets near the bed, making it difficult to charge a smartphone. It was also an issue that there were no lights installed near the bed. There was also a problem in Room 301: the valuables safe was broken and could not be used.

    We had a wonderful stay!

Overall, it was a wonderful stay. The Room was well maintained and clean, and the bath was comfortable and very relaxing. Although there were some issues with slow service and poor timing during meals, they responded promptly when we pointed it out, so we were able to enjoy dining. Points that stood out are listed below: ◯ Three of the seven private baths were out of order ◯ The entrance was hard to find ◯ There is limited information on the website—the Room details differed (in a good way) more than expected ◯ The level of service varied too much depending on the staff member—many provided wonderful hospitality, but unfortunately some felt rather cold ◯ It would have been nice to have a fan in the large public bath That said, this may have been the best Accommodation I’ve stayed at in years, and I believe it will become even better once any early post-renovation confusion settles down. We look forward to visiting again next time.

    A Truly Underrated Ryokan

The Facility and cuisine were top-class, but the service was third-rate at this Ryokan. When we arrived, the front desk area was overflowing with guests. They didn’t seem to know the order of arrivals, didn’t even ask our name, and directed us to chairs outside. If we had just stayed seated, I think we would have been forgotten. They were also rushing to prepare the manju served in the Room, and it seemed like staff roles weren’t clearly assigned. The only available dinner time was 8:15 p.m., which felt far too late. The bath was very clean, but I was concerned that there were no shower caps provided and that instead of a water dispenser there was a small pot—and it was empty. Even when we went to dinner on time, just like at the front desk earlier it was packed with guests and they couldn’t tell who had arrived in what order; we weren’t shown to our table until around 8:30 p.m. The food was wonderfully delicious. However, staff did not seem to have assigned tables and were rushing around everywhere, which made it hard to relax. Although I could see drinks prepared, no one brought them over for quite a while, which was frustrating. Used dishes were hardly cleared away and kept piling up on the table. Even after refilling our tea, they didn’t take away the previous cups; it felt like they didn’t understand basic service standards. The staff here are generally pleasant people and greet guests properly. Still, it seemed they don’t know what service should be like at an upscale Ryokan. It’s a shame because they are nice people but lack proper service methods. If they prepared numbered tickets for both front desk check-in and dinner seating order, guiding guests would be easy and would prevent those waiting from feeling uncomfortable. As for the bath water pot: when it runs out, instead of refilling that same pot each time, having a second set ready to swap in would reduce situations where there is no water available. This time we paid an opening price so even with poor service we were reasonably satisfied; however, if this had been at regular rates, I wouldn’t go again.

    There were many disappointing aspects.

First, I booked a 1-night, 2-day Plan with dinner and breakfast included. I think the original price was around JPY 40,000, but after various discounts and coupons were applied, the stay came to about JPY 17,000. What was disappointing - At check-in, it was very crowded and there was no proper guidance. - We arrived on the 15:00 Shuttle Service, so I don’t think we were particularly late, but at that point the only dinner time options were 20:00 or 20:30. - When entering the Room, there was a damp, strange smell. - The in-room Onsen was far too hot to use normally, and we were told temperature adjustment wasn’t possible. - Regarding dinner: there was almost no explanation of the dishes. The “all-you-can-eat sushi?” concept was unclear as well; when I tried to order bluefin tuna medium fatty tuna (chutoro), it was sold out—was it ever available? - We were told the sashimi at dinner could be made into shabu-shabu or “stone-grilled” style. But wouldn’t the slicing and preparation differ depending on how it’s meant to be eaten? What was good - At dinner, after we finished the appetizers it took a long time for the next dishes to come out. When I spoke to a staff member they responded immediately. A young female staff member in particular provided excellent service (including follow-up such as “It’s being cooked now; please wait a little longer.”). - The large public bath near the front desk side was very spacious. There weren’t many other guests so I could relax. The temperature was just right. - As for other guests: from what I saw there weren’t inbound tourists; many guests seemed to be older individuals or middle-aged couples, and it was very quiet. - The hair dryer was ReFa. If this Accommodation originally cost around JPY 20,000 per night I might say this is what you’d expect—but if it’s JPY 40,000 then it’s simply too poor. It didn’t feel like good value even though we stayed at a discounted rate. Since you’ve invested in facilities and reopened after renovation anyway, I think providing proper service and increasing spend per guest would help you recover that investment faster. As for the food, I can sense an intention to keep costs down—but even without spending more money, I believe you could still make something more decent than this.

We had a relaxing New Year holiday.

We stayed here for an Onsen trip over the 2025–26 New Year holidays. On New Year’s Eve, after a delicious dinner, we enjoyed traditional year-end soba noodles. After having osechi at breakfast on New Year’s Day, we relaxed in our Room and took turns visiting the private baths, enjoying a peaceful and restful holiday. At dinner on the second night, however, the guests at the next table were a bit noisy, which bothered us and made it hard to fully enjoy our meal. While private dining Rooms may be difficult to arrange, adding partitions between tables in the dining area would create more privacy and make it easier to enjoy the excellent food.

An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

I visit Minami-Izu a few times a year, but this was my first time staying here for one night. I had planned on No Meals Included, but I asked on site and was able to change to include breakfast. Sorry for the last-minute request, but they kindly accommodated me, and the breakfast was excellent. All the staff were very friendly, and both the private bath and the large public bath were wonderful. If the private bath was available, we could use it as many times as we liked with no Reservation or extra charge. My husband and I are already talking about coming back. The amenities were minimal, but extra bath towels were provided so we didn’t have to reuse wet ones, and everything was very clean. We were extremely satisfied! Thank you also for taking a commemorative photo for us when we left. I heard renovations are planned for next year. I’d love to return—hopefully the price won’t go up too much.

An Accommodation is defined by its people.

Both attendants who looked after us were cheerful, pleasant, and spoke clearly, which reminded me once again that the true charm of an Accommodation lies in its people. It was a truly wonderful stay. Thank you!

Enjoy delicious meals and a wide variety of Onsen.

The Japanese-modern twin Room was spacious and comfortable. However, the pot bath was small and very hot, and the stepping stone inside wobbled, making it dangerous to get in and out—please be careful. Also, among the 10 private baths, some are deep with no step stool, so extra caution is needed at night. The breakfast and dinner were delicious with a wide variety of dishes, and we enjoyed them quietly in a private dining room. The lounge where you can freely drink coffee and oolong tea was also quiet and comfortable. The building is spacious, with various ornaments and hanging hina dolls to enjoy. There were many insects, but we also saw crabs. At night, we were moved by the beautiful view of countless stars from our Room. Bath towels are provided in the large public bath, so we visited all the private baths and fully enjoyed the Onsen experience.

Some of the facilities were a bit old, but it wasn’t inconvenient at all. The Onsen was absolutely wonderful, including the free private bath.

    Second stay this time.

I reserved a different room from last year. It was spacious and very convenient to use. The fabric of the living room chair mat was not very comfortable, so I placed a bath towel on it to sit. Also, there were no hand towels in the bathroom, which was slightly inconvenient, but overall it was a satisfying stay.

A charming Japanese-style accommodation by the riverside!

The accommodation was full of atmosphere, with hanging hina dolls, antique tools, and glass crafts displayed throughout the maze-like interior. There were relaxing spaces outside the room and a free drink corner, allowing for a leisurely stay. There were many baths available without time restrictions or reservations; if they were vacant, you could enter freely. The open-air bath where I could listen to birds chirping was absolutely amazing! I chose a breakfast-included plan and was surprised by the variety of dishes! Everything from the horse mackerel to rice, eggs, and miso soup was incredibly delicious. The serving staff were all very polite and even gave tips like "Opening the lid to capture steam makes your food photos look more stylish and appetizing!" Everything—the room, baths, staff service, and meals—was perfect! For women, there was also an option to choose yukata robes—a thoughtful touch that made me happy. The room layout was spacious and comfortable; I truly rested well and slept soundly. My family even said things like "How did you find such an amazing accommodation?!" It received rave reviews from everyone! This time our schedule was tight; next time I’d love to visit at a more relaxed pace!

Wash away the fatigue of city life.

The atmosphere and hospitality of the Ryokan were excellent. Traveling with a 3-year-old made us a bit anxious, but choosing this Ryokan was the right decision. The guest room was very luxurious, and the private bath was perfect for our family. Located in a nature-rich area, we were surprised to see many crabs inside the facility, but it added to the charm. We would love to stay here again.

    Enjoyed fresh and delicious fish.

I stayed here for a solo trip. Both the large public baths and the open-air baths were clean and had a natural charm, allowing me to relax fully. The fish dishes at dinner, especially the shabu-shabu, were very delicious. As for the abalone on the ceramic plate grill, I felt it wasn't necessary as I didn't quite enjoy the sauce. The Room was clean and provided a comfortable space to relax. It would have been even better if there had been a single flower arranged in the alcove. Breakfast was honestly disappointing; only the dried fish was enjoyable. I plan to visit again during the Kawazu cherry blossom season with my parents to see Garko-chan, so I look forward to further improvements in Room arrangements and breakfast offerings by then.

    We enjoyed the family bath.

There were several types of family baths, and I was unsure which one to choose, but the first bath I entered was spacious and at a comfortable temperature, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also used this bath the next day and went into the open-air bath, so unfortunately, I missed the chance to try the large public bath. As for meals, both dinner and breakfast were delicious; however, for us older guests, the portions seemed a bit too large. We had to take a break after eating and regrettably missed seeing the illuminated Kawazu cherry blossoms at their peak.

    We had a great time.

The flowers and New Year decorations in the property, as well as the various onsens, were very soothing. The staff at the Stays were all very friendly, and the cleaning inside the property was very thorough. I felt like visiting again in a different season. The private baths had some with handrails and some without. Since some people need handrails, I thought it would be good to have a system where those who need them can have priority access to baths with handrails.

The room and onsen were very good. Also, many of the staff were friendly. However, it was a downside that I had to take my car to the distant parking lot myself and carry my luggage from the room to the car (to the distant parking lot) after checkout. Since I stay at various properties, these things tend to bother me.

We used this property for a family trip over the weekend. The atmosphere near the entrance was nice, but once inside, there was a slight dustiness? The old smell was a bit concerning. The elevator seems a bit aged, so I assume it's being inspected, but it's a little worrying. I knew in advance from the reviews, but at this Stays, when you check in and enter the room, the futon is already laid out. For someone like me who drove to Minamiizu and wanted to relax immediately after taking a bath, having the futon already laid out was actually a good thing. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying! We used 9 out of 10 private baths (1 was under maintenance), but it felt tiring, so I recommend not forcing yourself to use them all!

It was a very nice onsen ryokan. There were 10 private baths, and although reservations couldn't be made, you could enter anytime if they were available, and they were mostly available, making it easy to use. The large bath also had a fairly spacious open-air bath, which we used very luxuriously. We were able to enjoy plenty of onsen. This time, we didn't include meals, so we went shopping at the nearby MaxValu and brought food, but the cuisine has a good reputation, so next time, I would like to stay with meals included. There was also a delicious-looking seafood bowl restaurant next door.
