    温泉と旅好き

    Overall disappointing.

    1) Onsen: The water felt very smooth, and my skin felt silky afterward. I used both large public baths at Yukaen, and the larger one was especially nice. However, there were many horseflies in the open-air bath, so I couldn’t relax and soak properly. I would like to see better measures taken. 2) Meals: The dining area atmosphere was not great. The tables were too close to each other, so it wasn’t relaxing. The food itself was neither particularly good nor bad—nothing really stood out. 3) Service: I would like you to improve staff training for explaining the Room facilities. It left me with a very unpleasant feeling at the end of our stay. There was no explanation about the refrigerator at check-in. When we asked, we were told that all drinks in the fridge were free (my husband heard this as well). Since we didn’t drink the beer in the Room, we decided to take it home. At checkout, we were asked whether we had consumed any of the Room drinks, which I didn’t understand at first. When I explained that we hadn’t drunk them and took the beer home instead, they said they would redo the bill. Two bottled beers cost 2,000 yen. We paid separately, but it still left a bad feeling. There was no explanation that only beer is charged. At Ryokan of a similar class where we usually stay, items that are not free are clearly labeled or staff explain exactly what is charged. Since anything involving extra charges can easily cause trouble, I think you should train staff to explain this properly. Also, while there was some back-and-forth during payment—and when we were given what seemed like an “apology” gift—I saw someone who appeared to be the manager/director present, yet there was no apology from them at all. In situations like this, shouldn’t someone who can take responsibility handle it? We paid nearly 80,000 yen for one night for two people; this is the first time a Ryokan has treated us this way. We will not stay again, and I will clearly say that I will not recommend it to people around me either.

Highly satisfying Accommodation in every way

The moment I entered the building at check-in, the stylish lobby raised my expectations. The Room we were shown was not only chic with a modern Japanese design, but also spacious and relaxing. Some Accommodations look great but have cheap furniture; here, the furnishings felt high-quality and thoughtfully chosen, which made it even more comfortable. The in-room bath was fed directly from the hot spring source, and the washing area was spacious—there was no need to use the large public bath. I ended up bathing four times in one night. Even details like the hair dryer and shampoo amenities showed careful attention. The meals were excellent, especially dinner. Using local ingredients, every dish was creative, original, and delicious. There aren’t many Accommodations that truly make me want to return, but this one did. The staff were also very pleasant.

Enjoy abundant free-flowing hot spring water in an open-flow bath.

The in-Room bath had free-flowing hot spring water with plenty of volume, and we really enjoyed it. The lounge offered drinks, snacks, and ice cream, and the service was great. However, perhaps because the building is wooden, we could hear some noise from next door or the floor above. Also, getting to the dining area and the large public bath requires a fair amount of walking, which might be a bit tough for older guests. The staff were energetic and helpful. We had a comfortable stay—thank you very much.

    I’m feeling down.

Both the lobby right after entering and the Room felt calm, which I thought was very nice. However, the dinner venue felt like a food court, and my spouse and I were disappointed. There were only low partitions, so we could clearly hear loud voices from around us. The spacing between tables was narrow. We stay at Hotels and Ryokans of a similar grade every time, so the dining atmosphere is a very important factor for us. Unfortunately, this time that was everything for us.

    Relax and unwind.

They called four days before my stay, and when I returned the call the next day, they asked, “Just to confirm, will you be staying in person? And is No Meals Included okay?” They also asked how I would be getting there, so I told them the local bus arrival and departure times. When I arrived on the day, after two staff members took time to check everything at reception, they still asked, “Are you arriving by car? What time is dinner?” It made me wonder what the confirmation call had been for. In the Room, after explaining the Room itself, they gave an overview of the Facility as well—but it was done while we were standing. The Facility and hot water were good.

    Onsen

I really liked the Onsen water quality and overall experience. The meals were just the right portion, and I truly enjoyed how delicious they were. The person who spoke with us briefly when we were leaving was wonderful—having a normal, friendly conversation about our destination and plans made a great impression. I’d love to stay here again.

    A highly satisfying Accommodation overall.

I visited as part of an Onsen-hopping trip around Tohoku. Starting with mud baths, radium springs, iron-rich springs, and mixed bathing, my first stop was the Hanamaki Minami Onsen Gorge. Seiryukan, known as an “Onsen of the Mountain Gods,” felt beautifully arranged from the moment I stepped in and had a wonderful atmosphere. From my Room, the fresh spring greenery—bright yellow-green trees and plants—made me feel the season’s arrival, and I was able to relax while taking it all in. The Onsen water quality was silky-smooth and thick, just as many Reviews mention. It’s comparable to Otogi no Yado where I stayed recently—smooth yet with a noticeable weight to it. It has no taste or smell, but I can see why it’s called a “beautifying bath.” Another highlight was being able to use sister properties and day-use facilities for more Onsen hopping. Of course, during busy times I used the in-room bath instead—the water quality is the same and there’s nothing to complain about. Both dinner and breakfast featured many local specialties from Iwate: Maesawa beef, Sanriku abalone, spring mountain vegetables, and more. That said, it would have been even better if there had been announcements or explanations about the ingredients. This time I stayed here as the first Accommodation of my trip; in hindsight, choosing it as the final stop might have made me even more satisfied—I regret that just a little. Overall—including hospitality—I was very satisfied. I’ll be back again.

    All requirements are met.

Even at the most highly regarded Ryokan, there are usually one or two things to be dissatisfied with, but this time we felt attentive care in every detail—not only the Onsen, the guest room and Facility, and the service. In particular, while the meals may not look flashy, the well-curated selection using top-quality ingredients was outstanding; the sashimi and Matsuzawa beef dashi shabu-shabu were exquisite. After returning home, I immediately told my friends how wonderful “Seiryukan” is. I also had a very positive impression of the staff member in charge of service who kindly watched over a Chinese (?) staff member working hard during training.

    This is my second visit.

Last time I stayed in a Room on the second floor, but this time I stayed in a Room on the first floor. Since it faces the front garden, I felt a slight concern about security, but probably no one walks around there anyway. I didn’t see anyone at all. The first-floor Room doesn’t have as high a ceiling as the second-floor Room, but it was still spacious, extremely comfortable, and very relaxing. I love the Onsen here—it’s gentle on the skin and has that silky feel—and just like last time, I ended up soaking many times. I’ll be back again when I have some free time. Thank you very much.

A quiet, relaxing Onsen Accommodation where you can unwind at your leisure

The Onsen water is silky-thick and leaves your skin smooth. The large public bath at the neighboring Accommodation is a bit of a walk, but it’s worth going. This was my second stay, and the whole Accommodation felt warm, quiet, and very relaxing. I also appreciated having two towels per person. The meals were so plentiful I could hardly finish them. The sashimi was fresh and thick-cut, the ingredients were luxurious, and everything—from shark fin to meat to fish—was delicious. If I had to mention something, I’d be happy if the toothbrushes were a bit higher quality. Also, about the souvenir croissants: since you bake them anyway, it might be nice if guests could choose a Western-style breakfast next time. It would be a shame not to make use of them. Breakfast already comes with lots of side dishes and I was very satisfied, but I’d love to try a Western breakfast here too. There are many cedar trees around, so my car ended up covered in yellow pollen—this area might be tough during hay fever season. I’d like to visit again.

    Amazing! I’ll definitely stay again!

The food was outstanding, above all else. We upgraded to a higher-grade dinner course, and everything was delicious—not only the main dish, but also the sides and even the pickles. For dinner dessert at an Accommodation, I usually prefer something like tasty fruit and sorbet (since I’m already full), and this was exactly that—truly perfect from start to finish. Breakfast was of course delicious as well; even the milk and the tomato juice my husband ordered were rich and flavorful. It really showed that an Accommodation with great food doesn’t cut corners on details like these—impressive. If I had to mention one thing, the lounge’s free drinks are served from a family-restaurant-style soft drink machine, so I’d love for them to put more thought into that too... I was also happy that the Room had a good Panasonic hair dryer. And since it’s an Onsen Accommodation, having plenty of towels is great! We will definitely come again!

The Room was spacious and relaxing. We were very satisfied with the meals, both breakfast and dinner. The in-room bath was nice, but the large public bath was far away, and we almost got lost. It would have been nice to have drinks available after bathing.

The bath was excellent, and the Room was spacious and comfortable. The meals were just the right portion size, and we truly enjoyed the thoughtfully prepared dishes. We wanted to splurge a little and relax, so we made a Reservation expecting a high-end Accommodation priced higher than others nearby. While it was fine that the dining area wasn’t private, it was disappointing that the tables were close together and the overall atmosphere felt noisy and hectic.

The semi-open-air bath in the Room is nice, but...

I had high expectations for the baths, but the open-air bath in the building is a Facility also used by day visitors, and you have to pick up a locker key at the front desk, which didn’t feel very relaxing. You can also use the large open-air bath at the adjacent Hotel, but it’s far—really far! The ups and downs along the way were so tiring that I almost turned back, and I wouldn’t go twice (you’ll get chilled). It was disappointing because the semi-open-air bath in the Room was great. Another drawback is that it’s far from the Shinkansen station, and with only one shuttle bus service on the return trip, a rushed morning seems inevitable.

A worthwhile Accommodation to consider when visiting Iwate Prefecture and the Tohoku region in northern Japan

I believe the deep-snow season is the peak time to fully enjoy the local Onsen. The monochrome, single-story lobby building standing in pure white snow has a great feel. It’s open and airy yet calm, which left a very positive impression. The Room is also excellent. The natural hot spring bath is clean and more than satisfactory. The disappointing part is the restaurant. Each table is small, and the partitions tied on for COVID measures look cheap, ruining what had felt like a relaxed atmosphere. If you value privacy, spacing should be a priority—I found myself bothered by other guests’ eyes. The food itself isn’t bad, but the drink selection doesn’t reflect today’s demand for non-alcoholic options at all. At least offer something like Perrier. I focused on what could be improved because it’s such a good Accommodation that I ended up being more critical than usual. I would stay again.

    Maybe I expected too much.

I love the quality of the hot spring water at Yukaen, and I had always hoped to stay at Seiryukan someday. When I finally arrived, a male staff member came out to greet me, but his voice was very quiet and it was hard to understand the explanation about the Accommodation; I realized he was a foreign staff member. We were treated to a welcome drink, but during that time I couldn’t help noticing two female staff behind the counter chatting and laughing the whole time. It was also quite a walk to reach the baths in the main building, and after going once, I didn’t feel like going again. The restaurant might be nice by the windows, but in the central seating area the partitions were very flimsy, which was disappointing. Even though the food made with premium ingredients was delicious, it didn’t match the atmosphere. I was also surprised that two staff members opened the lid of our sukiyaki pot twice each—four times in total—to check how it was cooking. It made me feel rushed and I couldn’t relax during dinner. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I didn’t really feel any sense of luxury. There was no send-off at checkout either—overall, it was simply disappointing.

    Hot Spring for Beautiful Skin

This was my first time visiting Hanamaki Onsen. I was impressed by the silky, smooth water and its soothing quality that made me want to soak again and again. It was especially great for dry winter skin. I also used the free Shuttle Service bus, and the driver’s announcements were so warm and heartfelt that I truly felt welcomed. The driving was careful, and even on snowy roads the driver reminded us to watch our step when the bus might sway, which made me feel at ease. At the Accommodation as well, everyone was kind and attentive, and all my usual fatigue melted away. The meals were also delicious. The creative touches were wonderful, and the delicate presentation showed the chef’s careful craftsmanship. This has become an Accommodation I definitely want to visit again.

    A Warm and Welcoming Accommodation

We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. At check-in, I asked if it would be possible to arrange something like a birthday dessert plate. Since I hadn’t been able to ask at the time of the Reservation and was making the request on the day, I thought it might be difficult. The front desk staff responded with a smile, saying, “Let me check.” At dinner, when it was finally time for dessert, they said, “Happy Birthday. This is our way of celebrating with you,” and brought out an additional adorable dessert besides the one included in the course. Not only was the dessert wonderful, but everyone at the Accommodation who helped us greeted us with such warm smiles. We were filled with gratitude—it made for a truly lovely birthday celebration.

    The Onsen was amazing.

The Room was spacious, and the in-room Onsen was also large and wonderful. We felt the meals might be a little small, but since my spouse and I eat quite a lot, we think it would be just the right amount for most guests. We also truly appreciated your help in accommodating our allergies. Breakfast and the Onsen while watching the snow were fantastic. Unlike the polished service at luxury Hotels in central Tokyo, everyone here provided such warm hospitality. It was our first trip to Iwate, and it became a truly wonderful memory.

    I feel refreshed!

I have stayed here several times, and the hot spring water and meals are always excellent. This time, the autumn foliage visible from the terrace and bath provided an extra sense of relaxation. Feeling a bit tired, I was able to spend a leisurely holiday and had a wonderful refreshment. The souvenir bread was also delicious, and I always leave fully satisfied.

It was a very good accommodation.

I visited with the sole purpose of enjoying Morioka Reimen and relaxing in the Onsen. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations due to the price, but I was completely wrong. The spacious living area with high ceilings and well-designed room layout were impressive. The Onsen with its perfect temperature was delightful. As for the meals, I couldn’t believe such luxurious dishes were offered at this price! Both quality and quantity exceeded my expectations. It was my first time visiting Hanamaki Onsen, and since I prefer small-scale Ryokans with semi-open-air baths attached to the room, this choice turned out to be perfect for me. Next time, I plan to visit for a Multiple Night Stay. Thank you in advance!

    It was excellent!

I stayed here for my birthday and had an absolutely satisfying one-night stay! The Onsen had a silky texture that left my skin feeling smooth and amazing! I also enjoyed the large public bath, which I visited early and had all to myself, making it spacious and relaxing. The semi-open-air bath in the room was large enough for two people, allowing us to soak leisurely multiple times. The food was incredibly fresh, and every dish was delicious! I was especially impressed by the freshness of the salmon roe. Both dinner and breakfast were delightful with generous portions that left us completely satisfied. The room was clean and comfortable, providing a pleasant stay. After enjoying the Onsen, relaxing on the terrace with a drink while feeling the breeze helped me forget about daily stress—it was perfect! The services within the Ryokan were excellent as well. The drinks and ice cream provided were great touches, but what made it extra special was receiving a fruit platter during dinner for my birthday along with soap as a parting gift—such thoughtful gestures truly made me happy! My companion arranged for a cake as well, which we thoroughly enjoyed down to the last bite—it was delicious! This is definitely a Ryokan where you wish you could stay longer. Next time, I plan to visit for a Multiple Night Stay! Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Room and meals are satisfactory, but there's room for improvement.

Based on my parents' recommendation, who had previously stayed at Yukaen, we decided to stay here this time. The room, onsen, and meals were all very satisfying. However, it was disappointing that there was no elevator to access the second-floor room, making it quite challenging to carry luggage down during checkout. Additionally, the customer service skills of some younger staff members were lacking. If explanations about the room or lobby lounge were provided more thoroughly, it would set this accommodation apart from Yukaen and enhance overall satisfaction. I look forward to improvements in the future.

    I’ve become a big fan!

A comfortable and excellent Hotel. The staff were warm and seemed to be mostly locals, giving a true sense of being in Tohoku. The Room was perfectly spacious and functional, with a hinoki bath of just the right size for relaxation. The meals had a seasonal touch, were well-portioned, and delicious. Dinner has room for further improvement, but breakfast was outstanding. Having stayed in many rooms with baths across Tohoku and Hokkaido, this is definitely a place I would love to visit again.

    We had a wonderful time.

    I stayed here during...

I stayed here during a trip through the Tohoku region. There was no greeting upon arrival, and the level of service seemed to vary depending on the staff member, though overall there were moments that felt courteous. The Room was new and clean, and vivid greenery spread out beyond the window, making it very pleasant to spend time there. The natural scenery visible through the large windows was soothing and became a major highlight of my stay. The bath had a nice atmosphere, but the water temperature was on the high side. Even at the lowest setting it was too hot to relax in, so I had to add cold water with the shower while using it, which was a bit disappointing. The Room and view were very appealing, so I feel that if improvements are made—such as better temperature control for the Onsen—it would be an even more comfortable stay.

Stayed during the Omagari Fireworks Festival.

I stayed here during the Omagari Fireworks Festival. Since I was unfamiliar with the area and would return to the accommodation late after watching the fireworks, I consulted with them in advance. They kindly accommodated my stay and even considered that I wouldn't need dinner, taking into account my various requests. Thanks to their hospitality, it turned out to be a truly wonderful trip. The service was not overly extravagant but simple and courteous. Thank you very much!

    Repeat visit

I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful Onsen this time as well. The semi-open-air bath in the room offers a relaxing experience with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. Adjusting the water flow to create a lukewarm bath for a long soak has become my routine. The two large public baths at Yukaen also feature an abundant flow of natural hot spring water, and you can enjoy the scenic views from their open-air baths. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

It was an accommodation I would like to visit again.

This was my first time staying here. I had learned about the atmosphere and meals through YouTube, but actually experiencing it exceeded my expectations. The hot springs, meals, room ambiance, and convenience were all highly satisfying. I would love to visit again in a different season. I also see potential for further improvement and believe this accommodation will become even more wonderful in the future. Thank you very much for this experience!

I would love to visit again.

I was a bit worried after reading a Review about the service, but I ended up being very satisfied. When I called in advance, there were some moments that made me wonder, but upon visiting, everyone was very pleasant. The food was absolutely delicious, and I would love to visit again during a different season. There is a terrace, but the chairs were dirty so we didn’t sit there. Also, since there were mosquitoes around, we decided to relax indoors instead. It would be great if they could provide better hair dryers as it took quite some time to dry my hair. The Onsen was nice too, but what left the biggest impression on me was the food! For those planning to stay here, I highly recommend choosing a Plan that includes both dinner and breakfast!!
