    I planned my Kyoto t...

    I planned my Kyoto trip because I wanted to stay at this Hotel. Turning off the crowded uphill road toward Kiyomizu-dera onto the small path leading to the Hotel, I was immediately impressed by the open view with a five-story pagoda visible beyond the Hotel. From the staff at the gate to reception and breakfast, everyone greeted us with wonderful smiles and kind words, making our stay truly comfortable. The interior of this Hotel, renovated from a former school building, is beautiful; the Room was spacious, and the lounge facilities were excellent—an extremely satisfying stay overall. When we returned after checkout to pick up our luggage and were about to leave through the gate, they kindly offered us cold canned water because it was hot outside, which made me very happy. This is truly a wonderful Hotel.

    It was the perfect celebration.

    I stayed here as a birthday gift for my sister. We were amazed the moment we entered the Room—not only did you prepare a Room with a view of the five-story pagoda, but you also gifted us sparkling wine to celebrate. My sister was absolutely thrilled. In the lounge, we enjoyed a wide variety of drinks and alcohol, along with visually stunning sweets and carefully crafted dishes. At night, we dined at the rooftop bar while taking in Kyoto’s night views. For breakfast, I chose a conger eel hot pot—something rare for a Hotel breakfast—and truly savored Kyoto’s summer flavors. We were also able to visit Kiyomizu-dera early in the morning when it was quiet and uncrowded, which made us very happy. It seems it became a wonderful memory for my sister as well. Thank you very much for taking so many photos for us.

    A wonderful, quiet Hotel in Kyoto

    I had been interested in Seiryu for some time, and on a trip to Kyoto I was able to stay there for the first time. The surrounding area was crowded with inbound visitors, but once I stepped inside the Hotel, it felt like a quiet world apart. There were more international guests than Japanese guests, but most were quiet, and there was no one being loud or disruptive. From both the Room and the guest lounge, you can see Yasaka Pagoda, which really makes you feel like you’re in Kyoto. The Room is simple yet luxurious, and the lounge offers high-quality drinks, aperitifs, and sweets. There is also a wide selection of teas, and if you ask the staff they will bring them to you. Breakfast was delicious as well, and I had a very satisfying stay. Next time I’d like to visit the bar lounge on the rooftop.

    It was a wonderful Hotel, just as the reviews said.

    This is a highly rated Hotel, and I had long admired the on-site rooftop bar called K36, so I made a Reservation well in advance. It’s in an excellent location for sightseeing, and we walked from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line rather than driving. From the entrance, the Hotel had an amazing atmosphere and it genuinely lifted my spirits for the first time in a while. The service was also very attentive. The lounge offered drinks (including alcohol), sweets, and snacks until 10:00 p.m., and you can even see Yasaka Pagoda from there—an outstanding setting. The quality of both the food and drinks was high as well. Unfortunately it rained that day, so the rooftop bar was closed; they kindly switched us to K36’s indoor bar instead, where we had dinner. The atmosphere there was also excellent. I’d often seen photos of K36’s gin and tonic, so my wife ordered one, but it wasn’t served with the bottle inserted into the glass as shown online—apparently that presentation is different at the rooftop bar—so we were slightly disappointed. If possible, I would have liked clearer photos or information in advance. Overall it was wonderful, and it’s definitely a Hotel I want to visit again—it’s special enough to be worth staying just for the Hotel itself. If I had to mention any negatives: we chose items like risotto and galette for breakfast, but personally they weren’t quite to my taste. Also, it would be great if room service offered something like an onigiri set. That said, the atmosphere was exceptional and the hospitality was outstanding; my wife was truly happy as well, and despite the rain we made wonderful memories. Thank you very much.

    Easy access to Kiyomizu-dera Temple

    About a 20-minute taxi ride from Kyoto Station; if you have large luggage, taking a taxi is recommended. The uphill walk to Kiyomizu-dera is tough if you’re carrying bags. The view overlooking Yasaka Pagoda was truly wonderful—I loved it. I was also impressed by how beautifully the elementary school had been transformed. As for amenities, there were facial toner and cream when I asked, but even when I asked staff during the cool-down time, they pointed to body lotion instead. My basic English didn’t get through, so I’d like to see better staff training—this was disappointing. Other than that, everything was perfect.

    We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday.

    It was a truly wonderful Hotel. Every staff member was attentive and helpful, and their thoughtful service made our stay very pleasant. The amenities and in-room items were all top quality, and the room was impeccably cleaned, which made us feel comfortable throughout our stay. When I mentioned that we were celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday, you kindly took great care of us in many ways, for which we are very grateful. This was our first stay here, but it felt so welcoming that we already want to come back soon. From next time on, whenever we visit Kyoto, this is the Hotel where we want to stay. Thank you very much for everything.

    I’m still savoring the afterglow.

    This was my third stay at Seiryu. I chose a Room with a terrace that I’d been wanting to stay in for a long time. When I opened the door and walked along the approach to the terrace… Yasaka Pagoda was on the right. I couldn’t help but gasp in awe. The Room was so wonderful that I ordered both dinner and breakfast via room service. The weather was great, so I enjoyed both meals on the terrace. Each dish was carefully prepared, and everything was delicious! The lounge was also outstanding—service, snacks, and atmosphere were all excellent. All of the staff were warm and refined in their greetings and hospitality, and it made me an even bigger fan of Seiryu. If I had one small request, I didn’t love the hair dryer, so I’d be happy if you could consider changing it. That said, it was still an amazing stay overall. Thank you very much. I hope to visit again!

    Unfortunately, it was a disappointing stay.

    When I stayed shortly after the Accommodation first opened, I was deeply impressed by the wonderful hospitality and hoped to return. I had been staying away from Kyoto because there were too many tourists, but I heard things had calmed down a bit, so my husband and I made a Reservation to enjoy a relaxing staycation. Honestly, we were disappointed. In the guest lounge, even though it was a chilly day, the room temperature was low. After having just one drink, we felt cold and quickly returned to our Room. The hors d’oeuvres and other items were hardly replenished. The male and female staff seemed to be focused on inventory management the whole time; they greeted us while still crouching down and turning around, which left us stunned. At breakfast, the staff were not Japanese, but they were very considerate in many ways and we truly enjoyed our meal. Because our expectations were high, it ended up being a disappointing stay.

    A Lovely Lounge

    The Room was compact and well designed for ease of use. However, the hair dryer was difficult for me to use, which was the only disappointment. Dinner featured two main dishes, and I enjoyed each one. For breakfast, you choose a main dish, and they all looked delicious so it was hard to decide. The rest was buffet-style, and every dish was tasty, so I was very satisfied. The guest lounge also exceeded my expectations—the drinks and sweets were delicious, and the view was wonderful. The staff were courteous as well, making this one of the Hotels I would like to visit again.

    The Best Ryokan

    I stayed here on my first trip to Kyoto. The building was wonderful, and the service was courteous and prompt. I have traveled all over the whole country, but I have never found a Hotel better than this one. I will definitely stay here every year from now on!

    I enjoyed both sightseeing in Kyoto and the Hotel.

    At the Hotel, we enjoyed drinks at the rooftop bar while looking out at Yasaka Pagoda, and we could also have drinks in the lounge with the same view. Kiyomizu-dera was right nearby, and Kodai-ji was within walking distance, so it was a very fulfilling two days.\nIn the lounge, there was a tea ceremony experience on Monday. The instructor was wonderful and explained everything very carefully for international guests as well—I think it would be a valuable experience for them. I also had a great time experiencing Japan’s traditional culture in Kyoto.\nThe Room had a calming atmosphere, and although I wanted to dine at Benoit, there were other places I wanted to visit as well—there wasn’t enough time. This is a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    Excellent.

    Be careful—if you pass the parking lot, you’ll have to loop around one more time on a one-way street crowded with tourists. It was a shame we couldn’t go up to the rooftop terrace due to strong winds, but we fully enjoyed everything else about the Hotel. Above all, the breakfast was excellent and delicious. We’d definitely like to come again.

    The lounge tea service is excellent!

    I was disappointed that we were assigned a Room without an outside view, but I was amazed by the beautifully renovated former elementary school building. I was impressed by the service of being able to compare four different kinds of tea in the lounge. With the staff’s courteous explanations, the hospitality was outstanding. Next time, I would like to stay in a Room with a view.

    Everything was wonderful.

    It was a truly wonderful Hotel. The lounge was quiet and comfortable, with high-quality food and drinks, and I found myself going back again and again. I had a Reservation at the rooftop bar K36 from the evening, and they secured a seat with a great view for me. Even though it was very busy, the staff checked in at just the right times, so I had an amazing time. During my stay, I asked if I could connect Netflix to the Room TV, and a staff member helped me out—so at night I could relax with a beer in hand while watching movies. The building itself is impressive, but even more than that, the warm and attentive hospitality from the staff was truly outstanding and deeply moving. I would definitely love to return.

    Being able to use the executive lounge both before check-in and after check-out was a real highlight for me. From the lounge, the five-story pagoda was directly in front of us, and during our stay we were even able to see a snowy landscape—something rare in Kyoto—which made it an especially memorable experience. The lounge snacks seemed to change depending on the time of day, so we could enjoy them differently in the morning and in the evening. What stood out most was the self-service experience of whisking your own matcha. During happy hour in the evening, it shifted from light bites to more substantial bar-style snacks, and I really enjoyed that change. The Room itself didn’t feel particularly luxurious, but it was clean, comfortable, and very pleasant to stay in. The bathtub was spacious as well, which was perfect for relaxing after sightseeing. I was also pleasantly surprised that all drinks in the in-room minibar were included. One small disappointment was that when I left my luggage at the front desk, there was no information provided about the free activities offered by the Hotel. As a result, I missed the chance to take part during my stay. With advance guidance, I think I would have enjoyed even more. That said, including the view from the lounge and overall service, this is a wonderful Hotel that makes a stay in Kyoto feel extra special. I would love to return if given another opportunity.

    A Hotel Where You Can Truly Relax

    From check-in to check-out, thanks to the thoughtful care of many staff members, the comfortable lounge, and the delicious meals, we had a wonderful time in every way—nothing but gratitude. I was especially happy that at breakfast you explained about the elementary school before it was renovated. Even though it’s right in the heart of a world-famous tourist area, it was unbelievably quiet. I slept well in the spacious, comfortable Room. This is a Hotel I would love to stay at again.

    Back in Kyoto After a Long Time

    I stayed here for both business and a vacation. When I arrived, my Room wasn’t ready yet, so I relaxed in the lounge before being shown to it. The Room had a terrace, where I was able to unwind. Since it’s located on the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, it was convenient for sightseeing and the location was excellent. The night view was beautiful and felt very Kyoto. Both the food and drinks were delicious. I also truly appreciate your thoughtful emails even before my stay. I would love to stay here again if I have another chance to visit Kyoto.

    Panoramic Suite

    Because it was snowing, I asked to be met in the parking lot with an umbrella, but I was speechless when the staff member simply stood there holding the umbrella without offering it even after I got out of the car. The next day as well, snow had piled up on the windshield and I couldn’t see ahead, yet it wasn’t cleared until I specifically requested it. The view from the Panoramic Suite was wonderful, but there was no YouTube option on the TV remote. When I asked, I was told to connect an included cable to my smartphone. This was hard to understand and stressful. The wooden comb may be intended as an eco-friendly touch, but it didn’t make my hair feel smooth. I hope you will make improvements from a guest’s perspective. That said, some staff were very considerate, and together with the rare snowy scenery, it became a good memory.

    Overall, I was very satisfied, but this harsh rating reflects my hopes for further improvement.

    Last time, it felt almost like a complete cancellation. However, thank you for accommodating my requests this time. From the beginning, the warm smile, being greeted by name, and early lounge access were all excellent. It was my birthday month, and thank you for the message board as well. Thank you also for celebrating with me when I used breakfast service—I was very happy. At K36 it got cold toward the end, so thank you for delivering dessert to my Room. Please also pass on my thanks to the young woman who helped me choose from the menu. The way you replaced and arranged the in-Room drinks suited me perfectly. I understand that if there are requests, you can respond in many ways. Even without requests, I think satisfaction would be even higher if you checked past stay records and communicated based on them. In the lounge, someone took photos of me. I usually take them normally myself, but when an older woman took them for me, she helped in many ways so they turned out beautifully—it was great. The matcha oat milk made especially for me at night was delicious. It was made by a Western woman. You may need a little extra “plus alpha.” (If I know what services are available, I think it will be easier for me to ask—for example: lounge takeout mentioned in Reviews, or a massage chair.)

    This is a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again and can wholeheartedly recommend.

    I stayed at the end of January and was extremely satisfied with every aspect of my stay, including the Facility, service, and meals. As we were a group of three, an extra bed was added, but the room was spacious enough that we could relax and stay very comfortably. The view of the five-story pagoda from the room was also very memorable, allowing us to enjoy a truly Kyoto-like景観. At the bar, I enjoyed delicious drinks, a refined and elegant interior, and views overlooking the city of Kyoto—an indulgent experience. The sushi kaiseki dinner was lavish, with appetizers, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), and even steak; it was filling and very satisfying. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of dishes that were beautifully presented, and each item was delicious. The staff’s service was polite and pleasant as well—this is a wonderful Hotel that I would definitely like to visit again.

    Unusually, I gave a ...

    Unusually, I gave a perfect score. When I followed a map app, it guided me to the address number and led me to the parking lot behind the Hotel, so I couldn’t find the entrance. However, a staff member happened to let me in through the back entrance, which was very helpful. The service was attentive—they let me read the restaurant books in my Room and even provided a place to read after checkout (see attached photo). Their guidance on the bus stop for my return trip was also helpful.

    This is my favorite ...

    This is my favorite Accommodation that I have stayed at many times, and overall I was able to spend another comfortable stay this time as well. Just one point, which I hope may be helpful for the future. I had hoped turndown service could be done while I was out of the Room for dinner, but when I requested it after returning, I was told, “Normally it’s until 7:00 p.m., but this time we’ll do it at 9:00 p.m.” Since this explanation was given at 6:40 p.m. and I had informed you in advance that I would be going out again at 9:00 p.m., I felt a little disappointed. I do appreciate your assistance. Because my previous stays have been so wonderful, I would be happy if there could be more flexible guidance in the future.

    A Highly Satisfying Stay

    The location is excellent—we enjoyed watching the sunset from Kiyomizu-dera and taking a quiet early-morning walk around the temple before the area got crowded. The Hotel is a former elementary school renovated in a modern style, creating a very stylish space. The lounge has long opening hours, and champagne is available from 3:00 PM. There was also a great selection of light meals and sweets. In addition, the IKYU Diamond member benefit included a 10,000-yen Hotel credit, which we used for in-room dining. For breakfast, I chose risotto last time, but this time I chose Japanese cuisine. I preferred the risotto over the Japanese set. All of the staff were pleasant and provided attentive service. I can only visit during the off-season, but I would love to stay again.

    A Promising Accommodation That Falls Short

    This is a comparison between 2022 and this stay. There was no turndown service, and no one even asked about it. When I asked, “What time is the koto performance?” I was told, “It’s in your Room,” which felt very curt. As for the Room, I expected to find a printed guide, but there was none at all. In the end, I explored the Room and found what I needed myself. I booked a Plan that included hors d’oeuvres. Since I can’t drink alcohol, switching to non-alcoholic options was fine—but then it turned out to be the same as what’s in the Room minibar (only the size was different). I would have preferred different drinks. Please avoid duplicates. If possible, I would rather have items that are not already in the Room but available in the lounge. Compared with the high Accommodation Fee, this was disappointing. In 2022 there was also a welcome-back message on a shikishi board, but this time there wasn’t. Overall service felt similar to last time in terms of quality, but the personal service was extremely poor and not worth the Accommodation Fee—on par with a Business Hotel under 10,000 yen per night.

    Wonderful Kyoto Trip

    I visited with my mother. It was our first time visiting Kyoto in the middle of winter, and we were worried about the weather and cold. However, on the first day, it was relatively warm, so we were able to relax a bit on the terrace of our Room. This time, we chose a Plan that included champagne and hors d'oeuvres served in the Room. Since neither my mother nor I drink alcohol, we informed them in advance, and they kindly replaced everything with non-alcoholic options. Even all the free drinks in the Room were non-alcoholic, which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. For dinner, we dined at Benoit Kyoto. They had already prepared non-alcoholic celebratory drinks for us as requested beforehand. It seems that information was well shared among staff members there as well—we were truly impressed by their high level of hospitality. Breakfast was also very satisfying; above all else, every staff member we encountered was wonderful! Despite the cold weather, they went out of their way to take many photos for us at picturesque spots—creating unforgettable memories. We would love to visit again next time with our whole family! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

    A very clean Hotel with excellent service.

    We stayed here for a family gathering in Kyoto and used the accommodation while visiting Kiyomizu-dera and nearby restaurants. The attentive service, such as offering a welcome drink at check-in, is one of the great aspects of Japanese accommodations. The lounge and room had drinks and small snacks prepared, and the hotel had a calm atmosphere that matched Kyoto, making it very comfortable. The only slight disappointment was the lack of facial cleansing lotion in the room; however, other amenities were high-quality with no compromises, leaving a very positive impression. Since we planned to spend little time at the accommodation during this trip, we opted for a lower-grade room, which I slightly regret. Next time we stay here, I would like to choose an upgraded room and enjoy the hotel's meals and bar!

    Third stay

    This was my third stay since the opening. I was looking forward to the view from the lounge exclusive to guests, as I love the scenery, but unfortunately, construction work that wasn't there before was taking place near Yasaka Pagoda, which altered the view I had anticipated. However, the hospitality of the staff in the lounge was exceptional, allowing me to have a wonderful time. The fact that sweets from Tsuruya Yoshinobu were provided in the lounge also earned high points. While some hotel lounges can be quite lively these days, this one offers a very relaxing atmosphere, which is great. At check-in, I was informed that a commemorative coaster would be given at check-out; however, it’s unfortunate that I didn’t receive it.

    A relaxing Hotel

    We were upgraded to a higher-grade Room and enjoyed a comfortable Hotel stay. The food was delicious, and we also enjoyed the lounge. Visiting Kiyomizu-dera early in the morning was a great experience and highly recommended. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Thank you very much!
