    First Stay

Stayed nearby to see a performance at Minamiza. The Room, meals, and transportation access were all highly rated. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.

    Definitely coming back!

This was my first stay, and I was very satisfied with this friendly Hotel. It is a wonderful Hotel where I would definitely like to stay again next time. I was happy with everything—service, the Room, the view, the atmosphere, and access—but above all, the breakfast was delicious across the board and left me completely full from the morning. They also helped arrange a surprise for my partner’s birthday, which truly moved us. We look forward to staying again next time.

    We were lucky!

When I mentioned that we were staying to celebrate my sister’s birthday, we received a swan towel arrangement on the bed and a gift of amenities. My sister was truly delighted. Thank you very much. We were lucky with the timing of our stay, as it coincided with a Shimabara Tayū performance. Aoi Tayū’s voice was so clear and beautiful. We were also able to take photos together, which became a wonderful memory. With the Diamond benefit, we enjoyed sparkling wine while taking in Kyoto’s night view, and the next morning we had the highly rated breakfast. The popular Japanese set sold out. I hope there will be more Japanese options available. The fresh orange juice was exceptionally delicious.

The Gate Hotel is truly wonderful.

My family stayed at The Gate Hotel when it first opened near Kaminarimon, and we became fans. After staying twice at The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon, time passed, and we were finally able to stay at the Takasegawa Gate Hotel, which we had long wanted to visit. Both my mother and I were deeply moved by the thoughtful hospitality; the high level of service was just as wonderful as when we stayed in Kaminarimon. Breakfast was even more delicious than expected, and we were also impressed by the attentiveness of the young staff.

This is my second time staying here, but…

I recently stayed for the second time. I have used your properties many times in Yokohama, Osaka, and Tokyo, and I have been satisfied with every Facility—until this stay in Kyoto. In Kyoto, I was left questioning the way a male staff member at the front desk handled my request, and as a result I decided I will not use this property again. After checkout, I had lunch at the restaurant in the same Facility and asked to have my luggage shipped. After filling out the shipping form, he said: “May I have your phone number?” I replied that I had already written my phone number here, but he repeated calmly: “May I have your phone number?” We went back and forth like this about three times. In the end, what he actually wanted to ask was my Room number. Was it really necessary to go around in circles three times…? Or was he doing it on purpose? I had already explained from the beginning that I had completed checkout when requesting shipment. At that point, I no longer had the energy to say anything further. It was very disappointing because the service in Yokohama and Osaka has always been extremely pleasant. Precisely because Osaka and Yokohama are truly excellent, this experience was especially disappointing.

We were able to relax and rest well.

On the day of our stay, the Hotel kindly stored our luggage, and after leaving the Hotel we were able to watch the Gion Festival Yamaboko Junko parade up close just a few minutes away. After that, we also watched the Tsujimawashi on Oike-dori and were a little tired, but the Hotel was so comfortable that we could relax and rest well. At breakfast the next morning, after choosing Japanese cuisine, we enjoyed hamo (pike conger) and Kamo eggplant too, making this a trip where we fully experienced Kyoto in summer. Thank you very much.

This is a Hotel I would recommend to friends.

Thank you for assigning us a 6th-floor Room with a view of Higashiyama. The views were wonderful at any time of day—sunrise, the Higashiyama scenery, and the night view—and it really heightened the feeling of being on a trip. The Room was clean and spacious, and both the sofa set facing Higashiyama and the two side-by-side sinks were very convenient to use. We also made good use of the bar on the 8th floor and the lounge on the 3rd floor. The lounge offers soft drinks and wine, but I think it would have been even better if beer were available (since Kyoto in July during our stay was extremely hot, beer would have been perfect). During our stay, what I especially enjoyed was the Noh event. Although it was a short 30 minutes, it allowed us to experience traditional performing arts, and it was a wonderful experience. It seems that a wide variety of events are held regularly in addition to Noh, which has become one of my highlights to look forward to on my next stay. With its great location and views, excellent Rooms, great lounge service, and enjoyable events, this Hotel is one I’d love to stay at again. It’s a Hotel I can confidently recommend to friends as well.

I had a comfortable stay at the Hotel.

Located in the lively Kawaramachi district, it was convenient for getting anywhere, and the view of Higashiyama from the Hotel front desk was impressive. The Room was clean and there were no issues. Finally, the freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast was excellent.

A Hotel where you can relax anytime you visit.

I stay here whenever I visit Kyoto, a few times a year. The young female staff work efficiently and are very pleasant. I used the restaurant for the first time; it was reasonably priced, and the pasta in the course meal was especially delicious. Relaxing with a glass of wine in the lounge on the 3rd floor or on the sofa in my Room is always very comfortable. Having two doors inside also helps with soundproofing from the hallway and ensures privacy (such as bathroom noises). I will be back again. Thank you very much.

    Stay in the Schoolhouse Building

I stayed in the Scoolhouse building again to coincide with the Gion Festival. The lounge was conveniently close to my Room, and I enjoyed being able to order cocktails from the wagon service again this time. It is also close to the Yamaboko Junko parade route, so even when the temperature got extremely high, it was great to be able to return quickly to a comfortable indoor space.

All the staff were very pleasant. They are young, but everyone was hardworking and kind. Even the international housekeeping team would stop and greet guests when they passed—very much in the Japanese Hotel style—yet with a clean, international feel that made it comfortable to stay. The location is unbeatable as well. The room showed some age and wear, but I felt the service had improved compared with my first visit two years ago.

Thank you for upgrading our Room, which made our two-night, three-day stay very comfortable. Although we didn’t use it much last time, the lounge’s complimentary drinks were extremely helpful during midsummer in Kyoto. We would definitely like to stay again.

Close to Pontocho, we were able to fully enjoy Kyoto at night. The Room was clean and nice. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

Kyoto was rainy due to the typhoon. Thank you for upgrading us to a spacious Room. The lounge also had books, and we were able to relax while enjoying wine and tea. On rainy days, time spent at the Hotel becomes more important than sightseeing, so we were glad we chose this Hotel.

We ask that all guests be treated equally, regardless of nationality.

This may seem minor, but in the lounge, foreign guests were allowed to eat outside food and even take lounge drinks out without being warned at all. However, when I (a Japanese guest) tried to take one soft drink with me, I was cautioned. The same thing happened during several previous stays—foreign guests were free to do as they pleased. Because the staff member was foreign, it felt uncomfortable enough that I wondered if it was discrimination. Aside from this issue, it is a wonderful Hotel and I really like it, so I hope this can be addressed.

    A bit disappointing.

This time I stayed in a different Room. The view of Higashiyama from the window was very pleasant. Before dinner, I stopped by the lobby lounge for an aperitif and enjoyed the Diamond member benefit of rosé sparkling wine. I’m grateful to receive it, but it had almost no bubbles and was more like still rosé wine, which was a bit disappointing. With wine served by the glass, it can vary depending on whether the bottle has just been opened or is nearly finished, so there can be some inconsistency. For breakfast at ANCHOR KYOTO, as last time, I chose the Japanese set meal. There were about 15 small dishes featuring Kyoto ingredients, and I was satisfied to be able to enjoy a variety of flavors.

    The restaurant’s food was delicious.

I returned to the Hotel a little before 9:00 p.m. after finishing my errands. I didn’t have a Reservation and was traveling alone, so I thought it might be difficult, but it seems I arrived just as others were finishing and was lucky enough to be accommodated. With a ticket from my Diamond benefits, I was treated to a glass of rosé. I had the ratatouille and grilled sea bream—both were excellent. They were served with some vegetables I’d never seen before (something like a long chili pepper) and something delicate like pea shoots (sorry for my ignorance), which made it even more exciting and delicious. The ratatouille was so good that I also enjoyed a glass of white wine. The next morning’s Japanese breakfast offered a great variety, and everything was tasty. The saikyo-yaki had perfectly crisp, golden-brown skin without being burnt, and the fish was tender and fluffy—truly Kyoto quality. Sorry that this review is mostly about the food. Since it’s such a busy area, I honestly wasn’t sure about the location for me, but because the meals were so good, I may stay again. The Room was also very clean and comfortable. Turning what used to be an elementary school into a Hotel—and the overall concept—is wonderful. It was also nice to see people relaxing in the plaza in front of the Hotel. Being able to check out by phone alone is another reason I’d like to return. Thank you very much—everything was delicious.

    It was exactly as expected.

I had often stayed here in Tokyo, so I expected it would be reliable—and it truly is an excellent Hotel. The view facing Higashiyama was especially stunning, and I enjoyed it both from the Room and from the restaurant. The Japanese breakfast was also very delicious. With its great convenience, it’s a Hotel I’d like to stay at again.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

I wondered what a Hotel renovated from an elementary school would be like, but it was very clean and luxurious. As I stayed with Diamond member benefits this time, I really appreciated the welcome drink and chocolates. I was able to relax in the lounge while watching the fire pit, and I also enjoyed a delicious breakfast at a seat with a great view. I’d love to stay again in autumn.

    During cherry blossom season

This was my repeat stay. The cherry blossoms along the Takase River were beautiful, and I ended up taking photos again and again every time I stepped out of the Hotel. The Classy Twin Room was spacious, with a luxurious view stretching from the Gion area and Kiyomizu-dera all the way to Mt. Hiei. I had mentioned it was my birthday, and thank you for making a swan out of bath towels on the bed. Breakfast was delicious as well. The only thing I noticed was that it took a very long time to fill the bathtub, perhaps because the water pressure was low. Other than that, everything was perfect. I would love to stay again.

The views and location are excellent.

When I visited Kyoto last time, I happened to pass by and thought it was wonderful that an elementary school had been renovated, so this time I stayed at this Hotel. It is also close to Kawaramachi, with an excellent location in a very convenient area. The Hotel felt clean, and the Room was spacious and relaxing. The bar on the lobby floor was simply outstanding—I could leisurely enjoy drinks while looking out at Minamiza, and had a lovely time. The guest-only lounge was also very convenient, with a wide variety of beverages available, making for a truly fulfilling stay. If I have the chance next time, I would like to stay again and try joining the Hotel activities as well.

    Favorite Hotel

This was my second stay. I stayed in late January when a heavy snow warning was in effect. I was upgraded, and it made for a very comfortable 3 days/2 nights. I find it relaxing when the bathroom is set a little apart from the bed area. The views from the front desk, restaurant, and bar are as wonderful as ever—this is the number one reason I love this Hotel. For breakfast both times, I chose the Japanese set meal. There are also French toast and Eggs Benedict sets, but I’d be happy to see a lighter bread-based option as well. I also love the convenient location—atmospheric Pontocho, lively Gion, and easy access to bus stops and stations for sightseeing—but I was a bit disappointed that the area around the Hotel (especially restaurants) has become overwhelmingly geared toward inbound tourism.

Ideal location for easy access to Minamiza Theatre and Gion.

We stayed here to attend a show at Minamiza. It was an easy walk to the theater, and after the performance we came back to rest before heading to Gion for dinner. Everything was within walking distance and very convenient. After dinner, we returned and enjoyed drinks and conversation with friends at the bar, and also relaxed on the terrace—an extremely satisfying stay.

A very convenient and clean Hotel

Located right by the Takase River, the first floor features a plaza with artificial turf that creates a lively atmosphere where locals and tourists gather. Inside the Hotel on the first floor, there are options such as Blue Bottle Coffee and a sushi restaurant, so you can also enjoy dining. To access the Room floors, a security key is required, ensuring that non-guests cannot enter beyond the 8th-floor entrance area, which made it feel very calm and relaxing. On the 4th floor, you can enjoy complimentary drinks and light snacks, and in the evening you can roast marshmallows over an outdoor fireplace. Breakfast is served on the 8th floor with great views; I had the French toast and it was delicious—highly recommended!

We stayed here while our child was taking entrance exams.

This is a Hotel I had been interested in. The location, Shijo-Kawaramachi, was very convenient. It would have been nice to have a desk in the Room (there is a side table), but there was a large table in the guest lounge on the 3rd floor, so I used it to study for an exam. (There were other parents and children doing the same.) It was quiet, so it seemed easy to stay focused. Bottled mineral water was available both in the Room and in the lounge, which I really appreciated. The bath also allowed me to fill it with hot water, so I could relax and recover from fatigue. After dropping off my child, I had missed lunch, so I ordered fish and chips in the lounge. It was filling and delicious. There were many restaurants nearby as well, making dinner very convenient. When I visit Kyoto again, this is a Hotel I would like to stay at again.

It’s become one of my favorites.

This is a Hotel I had always been curious about whenever I visited Kyoto. I stayed here for the first time on this trip, and it was wonderful. All of the staff were very kind and attentive, which made my stay truly pleasant. The view from the restaurant was great, and I really enjoyed the delicious breakfast. I look forward to staying with you again.

    Easygoing Koro-chan

I was very happy that you moved me to an upgraded Room because there was an issue with the original one. For breakfast, I can’t really eat fried foods, so I really wanted the Japanese set. I was told it sometimes runs out as early as around 7:00 a.m., so I made the effort to wake up early and have it. Every dish was carefully prepared and very delicious. However, it meant I couldn’t sleep in at all, and eating such a full meal right after waking up was a bit tough. I’d love to start the morning more relaxed and enjoy breakfast at a leisurely pace. It would be great if it were not limited in quantity but available by Reservation in advance. I found it strange and inconvenient that there was no towel rack in the washroom. I appreciated having disinfectant spray, but the bottle was hard to hold. All of the staff were polite yet efficient—very professional and wonderful. If I have the chance, I’d like to stay again.

    Very satisfied!

It’s wonderful to see a former elementary school transformed so beautifully. Perhaps because it used to be a classroom, the ceilings are high, and we were able to stay very comfortably. We had breakfast, and it was delicious—you can really tell the ingredients are high quality.

I’d been curious about this Hotel for a while, so I decided to stay here on my way back from a business trip to Kyoto. The night view from the 8th floor (?) during check-in was stunning, and the Facility had a calm, refined atmosphere. The Room was well designed and easy to use, and best of all, despite being in a Kyoto building, the high ceiling made it feel spacious and not at all cramped. I heard the Japanese breakfast was limited to the first 30 servings, so I woke up early and headed to the restaurant. There were about 15 small dishes; they were well balanced with some bolder flavors that even international guests would enjoy, and it was a delicious meal with plenty of vegetables. I’d love to stay again if I have the chance.
