    I look forward to it every year!

    We have stayed here for three consecutive years while visiting the Tomonotsu Museum—two years in “Kai,” and this time in the newly opened “RiSA.” In the past, we served ourselves at dinner and would set everything out on the table at once while checking the menu. This time, each dish was explained to us in the dining room, and we were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace, which made us very satisfied. We truly appreciated the attentive service. We’ll be back again next year.

    A vitamin boost for both body and mind!

    I’ve come to love this Hotel, a standalone house that blends into an unpretentious, nostalgic town, and I visit several times a year. It’s always a soothing place that never disappoints. Spending peaceful time gazing at the calm sea and sky, and the birds resting there, along with delicious meals and drinks, leaves both my stomach and my heart full. I’ll be back again for another vitamin boost—thank you in advance.

    The staff member was new, but the meal was delicious.

    Regardless of age or nationality, it seemed that many of the staff handling guest service were not yet experienced. Training may be challenging, but considering the price range, it might be better to help them develop a bit more. They all seem motivated, so now is the time. As for the meals, if I were to have a full-course Japanese meal in Tokyo, I would expect it to be around JPY 20,000 in terms of quality. However, what was served differed from what was printed on the menu. I wondered if this was also because newer staff could not explain it properly. If you are using local alcoholic beverages as well, it would have been nice to highlight that more or offer pairings. The older gentleman in charge of breakfast service looked like he truly enjoyed his work and showed real professionalism—unfazed even by the strict looks (and sighs) from a young woman who seemed to be a leader. I hope he keeps it up. I had a relaxing stay. Thank you very much.

    Girls’ Trip

    The staff mentioned that, since it’s a traditional old house, it might be noisy. I was occasionally startled by the sound of my own footsteps in the hallway, but the surroundings were very quiet and I had a comfortable stay. Dinner was served in a separate building, so I thought in-Room dining might have been nicer, but it was also fun to enjoy the meal at the counter while chatting with the chef. The lobby/common area was stylish, but I noticed some dust and it wasn’t very clear how guests were meant to use the space. It’s highly recommended for its walkable access to nearby sightseeing spots and for blending into the historic streetscape while still offering well-equipped Facilities. I’d definitely like to recommend it to friends.

    A Time for Relaxation

    I have stayed at this Hotel three times over the past year. The nostalgic and warm atmosphere of Tomonoura feels more like returning to my hometown than just traveling, and I am always impressed by the attentive hospitality of the Hotel staff. The meals are also delightful, with carefully crafted dishes that captivate both the eyes and the palate. I look forward to staying here again several times this year as well.     It was a delightful feast.

    The accommodation, renovated from a traditional Japanese house, had a charming atmosphere (though the wooden doors were slightly creaky). The meals were excellent. Every dish served at the counter by the chef with perfect timing was truly satisfying.

    Everything is excellent, but the noise can be challenging.

    The exterior, interior, meals, staff, and service are all excellent. However, due to the nature of the building, sounds from neighboring rooms can be heard very clearly, so earplugs might be necessary. While I was fully aware of this issue as it was mentioned on the site when making the reservation, loud conversations among four people in the neighboring room continued late into the night (even though according to the facility information on the site, it should also have been a two-person room). Since there is no staff permanently stationed at this accommodation to address such issues, I believe it would be helpful to have notices in each room reminding guests about noise etiquette.

    Experience Tomonoura from the comfort of your Room.

    We stayed in a Room on the second floor of Kai with a friend. The room, beautifully renovated from an old house, was very comfortable to use. While sitting in the living room, we enjoyed the view of Tomonoura and admired the changing colors of the sunset sky from the terrace. The meal was served as a gathering style with clear heating instructions provided, allowing us to enjoy it slowly and deliciously. Thanks to this setup, we were able to fully enjoy Tomonoura without leaving our Room. If I may suggest improvements: having chopstick rests and a bath lid (as we used it at different times) would be helpful. Additionally, for family stays, it might be better if there were doors made of sound-insulating materials between the bedroom and living room for more privacy.

    Following last year

    To visit the Tomonotsu Museum, I stayed at the Shiomachi Hotel Kai again this year, just like last year. Despite the unfortunate rainy weather, the delicious food and the comfortable private accommodation made for an excellent stay. I will use it again next year.

    A charming traditional Japanese house Hotel with creative touches

    A renovated traditional Japanese house turned into a Hotel. While staff are unavailable during nighttime and early morning, you can contact the main Hotel if needed, which was not an issue for us. The spacious earthen floor area, possibly a former shop space of the old house, has been transformed into a lounge that also serves as the restaurant. Meals are stylishly presented and delicious, offering an excellent taste of Setouchi Hiroshima's seafood and mountain delicacies. The guest rooms are fully wooden as expected from a traditional Japanese house, providing a unique experience for children. The water facilities have been beautifully renovated. You can also enjoy strolling through the quaint streets with architecture dating back to the late Edo to Meiji periods. While there is no coin laundry available and we had difficulty recognizing the shuttle service bus from the main Hotel since it did not display "Shiomachi Hotel" on it—causing us to search under intense summer heat for about 10 minutes—overall, we were satisfied with our stay!

    Relax and unwind.

    This is my second stay following my visit in April. I was soothed by the nostalgic townscape, the presence of Shiomachi Hotel, and above all, the warm hospitality of the staff. I will visit again.

    A New Dining Experience

    It was our first time preparing and finishing the meal ourselves in the room, but since it was a stay with four friends, we enjoyed dining at our own pace. The room was spacious, and the bath was comfortable.

    Highly satisfied! It was a wonderful trip!

    We stayed here for a girls' trip. Located in the center of Tomonoura, it was convenient for exploring the area. The shuttle bus to and from Fukuyama Station was also very handy. The Hotel has a charming atmosphere and is lovely! The Room was very relaxing! It’s just a short walk to Kankokukan Rantei, where we enjoyed an open-air bath with breathtaking views before dinner. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, leaving us completely satisfied! The staff were kind and made our stay pleasant. It was our first time staying at a standalone house-style Hotel, but it felt very calming. The only downside was that we found it difficult to adjust the room's air conditioning system.

    Overall, it was a go...

    Overall, it was a good experience. Located in a quiet port town, the environment evokes a sense of nostalgia. However, compared to other Japanese-style Ryokans, it was disappointing that there were no Japanese tea or tea sets provided in the guest Room. Additionally, perhaps due to the age of the building, some corners had dust remaining and certain areas were not thoroughly cleaned. Many of the labels on the Room's light switches were also peeling off. If these small details are improved, it would make for an even more comfortable stay.

    It was great to enjo...

    It was great to enjoy the hot springs of the chain Hotels. Both Hotels offered beautiful views from the baths, and soaking while watching the stunning pre-sunrise scenery was amazing. The leftover sea bream rice from dinner was made into rice balls for a late-night snack, which was a thoughtful gesture.

    The scenery was very beautiful.

    The view from the terrace was very beautiful. All the dishes were very delicious. We were able to take a walk around the Tomonoura area, and we could see the sunset from the terrace and the sunrise near the sea. Overall, we were very satisfied. Thank you very much!! The following are points that would make us even happier in the future, especially since it was our first time staying at a gathering townhouse: - We stayed with three people, and there were two beds, so it would be nice if the sofa could turn into a bed. - The frying pan for cooking meat was bent, so it would be easier to cook with a sturdier frying pan. - The air conditioning worked well, and due to the weather, it was very dry, so we wanted a humidifier. (There was an air purifier with a humidifying function, but the room was large, so it seemed insufficient for humidification.) - The vending machine was far away, so it would be nice to have a water server or a vending machine. - It would be convenient to have a map showing the walking time and route to a Hotel with an Onsen. (In winter, it gets dark early, and since we traveled by car, we didn't know which route to take, but we understood the location relationship after walking the next day.)

    It was spacious and relaxing.

    The location is excellent for exploring Tomonoura, and although it is quite dark at night, we were able to walk around and enjoy various sights. The next morning, before departure, we were able to visit the pier and shrine. The room was spacious and comfortable for three people. We went to the Onsen at a related hotel, so unfortunately, we didn't have the chance to use the cypress bath in the room.
