A Hotel You’ll Want to Stay at Again
My monthly staycation is usually at a Hotel in my local Minato Mirai area, but this time I went a bit farther to Hotel Indigo Gora. I drove there alone, and the winding mountain roads in Hakone were a little tiring. I arrived before check-in and planned to relax at the footbath, but as soon as I parked in the outdoor lot in front of the Hotel, a staff member came right away and helped with my luggage. The welcome drink and Umaibo snack were a nice touch, and being able to check in comfortably while seated is one of those pleasures you expect from a Hotel of this class. When I entered my Room with the staff’s guidance, I couldn’t help saying, “Beautiful!” out loud. It’s a compact Hotel with around 100 rooms, but the Japanese-modern design—combining a raised tatami area with beds—was truly charming. I usually prefer modern Hotels, but this stay reminded me how calming and appealing Japanese-modern style can be. For dinner, I ordered à la carte at the on-site restaurant. The shrimp, scallops, and abalone in the bouillabaisse were surprisingly tender; the burrata was rich and paired perfectly with tomato and basil. The white wine went down easily. Since I don’t eat much, I also appreciated having à la carte options instead of only set courses. The bath in my Room was spacious, and I was able to fully enjoy the Onsen at leisure. The breakfast buffet also impressed me in both variety and quality—especially the green beans dressed with sesame sauce, which tasted far better than anything I could make at home. Even as someone who eats lightly (and can be picky), it was more than satisfying. The hospitality from everyone on staff was excellent, and the entire property was beautiful and comfortable. It was a wonderful Hotel that made me want to return again.

A Fun Hotel
Many of the guests and Hotel staff were from overseas, so it felt like being on an international trip. The spa Facility where you can enter in a swimsuit and the relaxation space after bathing were both excellent. Since there is a laundry factory in front of the Hotel, the view was not great, but once inside there was a footbath corner and a wonderful gym, making it an enjoyable Hotel.

For guests from Japan, please read this.
During this stay, I had the impression that many of the guests were international travelers, and the staff also came from diverse backgrounds. The Hotel itself was very clean, and the Room design was thoughtfully detailed throughout. The overall atmosphere was excellent. On the other hand, for the dinner course, paid drinks, and service at the bar, it generally felt like it took a long time for items to be served. It may suit those who have plenty of time. Also, there was no confirmation of how I wanted the main meat cooked, and neither bread nor rice was provided. The breakfast buffet featured many international dishes, and I felt there were somewhat fewer Japanese options. There were also moments in the building where strong scents such as perfume were noticeable, which bothered me at times during meals and in the elevator. Regarding the Room, there was no staff guidance upon arrival. I also noticed stains on the sheets and that no trash bag had been placed in the bin. The complimentary drinks were bottled water served at room temperature. As for service, a staff member politely apologized for delays with dinner service, and overall their courteous handling was appreciated. However, despite having selected my payment method in advance, some questions (such as transportation) were repeated at check-in, which made me feel slightly uneasy about internal information sharing. I visit Hakone several times a year; considering this price range (about 200,000 yen for three people), I felt there are other appealing Accommodation options available. For that reason, I am not considering a return visit. Overall, while the Facility design and polite service were good points, I felt this Accommodation may be divisive depending on whether you prioritize a distinctly Japanese atmosphere and cuisine.

Our family stayed for one night. It happened to snow, and we were very satisfied to be able to enjoy the rare snowy scenery while relaxing in the Room’s open-air bath. We used the restaurant several times for the café, dinner, and breakfast. The food was delicious, and all of the staff were very kind and friendly. Thank you so much!

The staff were excellent.
Despite the heavy snowfall the other day, your support was excellent. You also communicated very well in Japanese. I would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

A very friendly and wonderful Accommodation
All the staff were very friendly, and we had a wonderful stay. The Onsen in the Room was also very relaxing and refreshing. Thank you very much. It snowed that day, and it was truly magical and beautiful.

Comfortable
The warm hospitality made our stay very comfortable. The dinner course featured local ingredients and was carefully prepared; every dish was delicious. In every respect, it felt like the best of an international Hotel combined seamlessly with Japanese style. Perhaps because of the season, it was quiet and relaxing, which we really appreciated.

Hotel with Private Onsen
This was my first stay, and the Room was clean, the staff were polite, and the private bath in the Room was convenient and relaxing. The meals were very delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed them starting from the appetizers. Please note that swimwear is required for the public bath. I would love to visit again.

The hospitality of the Nepalese staff is excellent!
The hospitality of the Nepalese staff and the hotel’s interior design are outstanding. The Nepalese staff speak excellent Japanese, always with a smile and exceptional service. It’s impressive how they provide such warm hospitality in a foreign country. In addition to their native Nepali, they are fluent in Japanese and English, and likely have some proficiency in Indian languages as well. You may see them at luxury hotels too, where their service is equally remarkable. Thank you so much! Keep up the great work! The interior design is also a must-see. The parquetry theme is used throughout the hotel, creating an impressive atmosphere. The room and breakfast match the price point. The onsen requires you to turn on the faucet yourself; it’s not ready immediately upon entering your room. From the open-air bath of our room during this stay, only a view of a 7-Eleven was visible—nothing particularly noteworthy—so we lowered the blinds while bathing. However, if you're looking for cost-effective accommodation with an open-air onsen bath (though diluted with water), this is a good choice. For higher expectations, consider accommodations around 100,000 yen. Water was delivered promptly upon request—astonishingly fast service! Other requested items were neatly prepared as well. Breakfast was buffet-style; grilled vegetables were delicious along with good options for Japanese dishes, bread, side dishes, and drinks. Coffee was excellent with decaf options available too—the service here was also fantastic. On the other hand, fruits were lackluster; oranges had seeds which was disappointing. Overall though—it all comes down to how amazing the Nepalese staff's hospitality truly was! Parking is flat right in front of the accommodation; it might be inconvenient if it rains but no issues when sunny or icy conditions occur. Thank you very much!

A modern ONSEN Hotel primarily focused on foreign guests.
A modern Onsen hotel located downhill along the river. Each room features an open-air bath. Though compact in size, the soft water quality effectively relieves foot fatigue. While lower floors may have a view of nearby residences, it was not bothersome during our stay. The private open-air bath in the room provided ample relaxation, so we did not use the public bath. The meals were carefully prepared and tasted excellent. Breakfast was particularly high-quality and very satisfying. However, the dinner course felt slightly rushed; dessert was served before we finished our wine. With its excellent location, facilities, and dining options, this hotel offers a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

This must be the flow of the times!
I visited in November 2020, searching for a room with a private bath to include a prayer visit to Hakone Shrine as my wife was ill and required care. Initially, the meals were excellent, and there was also an esthetic service, which led us to visit multiple times. The staff at that time provided exceptional service, bringing great joy to my wife during her treatment. However, over time the esthetic service was discontinued, and the quality of meals declined. Despite this, breakfast remained outstanding and satisfying. After not visiting for several years, I recently returned but must honestly say I do not plan to revisit again. The quality of the dinner (including wood-fired dishes), beverage temperatures, and breakfast have significantly declined compared to earlier visits—this is deeply disappointing for someone familiar with how things used to be. Initially, everything from facilities and cuisine to hospitality was top-notch; perhaps this reflects changing times. If I were ever to return in the future, it would likely be solely for the onsen at Hillside without including meals. This trip left me very disappointed overall.

First Indigo Stay
First stay at Indigo Hakone. Upon arrival, we had some time before check-in, so we explored the area near the accommodation. The surroundings of the hotel entrance include a material storage site and a cleaning factory, which doesn't give off much of a resort vibe. At check-in, I was asked at the front desk to either pay a deposit or present my credit card. Although I refused since I booked through IKYU.com, they insisted it was their policy. While not entirely convinced, I complied. The Riverside Twin room offers a view of traffic lights on the prefectural road and a large building under demolition with heavy machinery operating noisily amidst dust clouds—making it difficult to open the window. There is a single-person bathtub on the balcony; however, due to unbearable construction noise during daytime hours, I could only use it after sunset when work had ceased. The traffic on the prefectural road and visible traffic lights right outside were also distracting. Dinner consisted of three courses: an appetizer, soup, and main dish. The wood-fired pork steak was delicious! Breakfast was served buffet-style with standard offerings. Thank you very much!

The establishment caters to many foreign guests, and the drink prices reflect this. The main dish for dinner, pork, consisted mostly of fatty parts rather than meat, which we found unpleasant and did not suit our taste.

It was great, but the service was disappointing.
The room and the private open-air bath were both wonderful, and both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Although many of the staff at the hotel are from overseas, they were very polite. However, during the shuttle service, despite having made a reservation, priority was given to those without a reservation. When asked for an explanation, no clear reason was provided; they didn’t even check names or confirm reservations. The phone support and shuttle service staff were extremely disappointing. Being kept waiting for nearly 30 minutes without an apology was very frustrating. I had been considering staying again next time, but unfortunately, this experience has changed my mind.

Best Value Hotel
The hospitality of the staff, the consistent design that creates the unique world of Indigo Gora, and above all, the satisfaction that exceeds the accommodation cost make this a hotel you would want to recommend to others.

First Trip After Childbirth
We had our first trip with our baby and stayed at Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. From the moment we arrived at the parking lot, the staff came to greet us, and during meals, they kindly offered a blanket for our baby. Their thoughtful care in various aspects made our trip truly satisfying. We would love to stay here again if we have another opportunity.

A clean and comfortable Hotel with a sense of hospitality
Exceeded expectations. The staff at the front desk, room guidance, and restaurant were all friendly and provided courteous service, leaving a positive impression. Although the proportion of foreign guests was very high, there was no noticeable noise during the stay. The thermal pool in the early morning felt private and refreshing. I only used the restaurant for breakfast, but it was calm with a great selection of Japanese dishes that were very delicious. The dashi with plum brought to our table during breakfast was particularly tasty. Enjoyed shared facilities like having drinks while watching Daimonji-yaki from the footbath area. The atmosphere of the bar at night seemed appealing, so I’d like to try it on my next visit. No major complaints about room facilities; however, better drainage in the sink and an option to borrow pajamas other than yukata would be appreciated even more.

Accommodation before the snow
Stayed at the Indigo series in Hakone and enjoyed a delicious dinner. It was a warm spring day just before the snow, and I had a relaxing time in the foot bath with a pleasant breeze. I would love to stay again.

A space of Japanese elegance, modernity, and relaxation that we can proudly present to the world.
The private open-air bath in the room, where you can listen to the murmuring of the river, allows for the water to be changed each time, ensuring cleanliness and providing a relaxing experience. The amenities were also well-equipped, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time just in the room, but I also savored delicious drinks at the bar corner. The highlight was the breakfast buffet, where each carefully prepared dish was beautifully presented in small bowls or glasses, making it enjoyable to eat. Of course, everything was delicious. The hospitality of the staff was also excellent. Having stayed at similar onsen ryokans before, I felt that this property was superior in every aspect, and the price was reasonable. It is a Stays I would love to visit again.

The view is disappointing, but the love from the staff surpasses it...
Last year, I was satisfied with using Indigo in Karuizawa and stayed in Hakone. I reserved a room on the riverside, but due to the location, the view was disappointing; a certain convenience store was in full view, and there was also a place that looked like a factory, so I couldn't escape the hustle and bustle from the city. The open-air bath in the room was also not quite up to par as an open-air bath. However, I felt love in the response of the staff more than anything else. Dinner was a course meal overflowing with the love of the chefs, and I could tell that the garçon staff were well-studied. Breakfast was buffet style, but it had a homemade feel and was delicious and very satisfying. I was full. There were many overseas staff, but their Japanese was polite, and their service was attentive, making it reassuring for the elderly. The view from the room was disappointing, but I felt something beyond that. I will use it again. Thank you in advance for that time. Thank you very much.

It was a comfortable Property.
Overall, it was a good Property. The staff's service was excellent, and as mentioned in the Reviews, there seemed to be many staff members from overseas, but I was able to have a pleasant stay. However, the bath was unexpected. I was looking forward to the Onsen open-air bath, but there was a strong sewage smell, seemingly from the nearby river, which was unbearable. I ended up taking a short dip and giving up. Additionally, there was also a sewage smell coming from the drain area in the shower room, which was disappointing. That said, it might depend on the Room, and the hospitality was excellent, so if this was due to external factors, I feel very sorry for the Property. If the Facility is improved, I would love to visit again.

Wonderful
Family use for 2 adults and children (elementary school student + infant). Remarkably, children below elementary school age can be accommodated as Child Sharing Existing Bedding, so only the adult rate plus the children's meal cost was incurred! Everything is clean as it is a new hotel. The amenities are minimal and well-organized, without waste. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and body cream are from the Australian brand Biology, which I personally love the scent of, making the bath more enjoyable. Upon arrival, welcome drinks and sweets were prepared, so we could relax as a family in the stylish dining area without going straight to the room. In the meantime, our luggage was brought to the room. The bathing Facility requires swimwear, allowing use by both men and women. Videos of Japan's four seasons are shown, and there are baths ranging from lukewarm to hot, where photos can be taken, creating lasting family travel memories. The towels were fluffy and excellent. For dinner, meat and fish are grilled over charcoal in the dining area. This time, two people had pre-booked courses (reservation required by the day before the stay), and my 6-year-old daughter and I ordered à la carte. The course included appetizers → fish (blackthroat seaperch) → meat (beef, personally found medium well-done tastier than medium rare) → dessert. There is a children's menu, which is very reasonable and tailored to children's tastes, leaving my 6-year-old daughter very satisfied. The à la carte Caprese (burrata cheese + tomato) and curry were also very delicious and impressive. The curry is recommended. Breakfast is a buffet style with Japanese and Western dishes. Since it was New Year's, there was also osechi. There was a barista who made café lattes, which were delicious. Above all, the service at this Hotel is excellent. Everyone was pleasant, making the stay comfortable. I definitely want to repeat my stay.

Revisit
I stayed here once last September, and I believe many people visit every day. Among them, 2-3 staff members remembered me and brought crispy bacon for breakfast, which I hadn't requested this time, and I was deeply moved. I am grateful for the attention to detail from each staff member, making me want to visit again. Thank you very much.

There is no free shuttle service before 10 AM.
As it is a tourist destination, you may check out early in the morning or go out early if you have a Multiple Night Stay. However, the nearest Gora Station is located on a steep hill, making it impractical to walk there. Unfortunately, the Hotel does not operate a free shuttle before 10 AM, so many guests are left waiting for taxis in the morning. I found it very inconvenient that the Hotel does not offer a free shuttle service before 10 AM.

Dinner was disappointing.
The dinner consisted of 5 courses, but for young people, the portion was small and disappointing. The taste was not something that made me want to eat it again. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide variety of dishes, but the lack of desserts was disappointing. Overall, the disappointing food might prevent me from returning. The Room's open-air bath was excellent. The lobby had a beautiful parquet pattern ceiling, but the low ceiling gave a sense of oppression, which was unfortunate. The presence of a bar next to the lobby made it noisy and unsettling. I think it would be more relaxing to have the bar on a separate floor. All the staff were kind and pleasant.

It was a wonderful place!
We stayed at the accommodation for his birthday trip. Thank you for your polite communication through email. The room was clean, and we felt great hospitality. The dinner course was delicious! The staff who served us during dinner was wonderful!! Thank you so much! The breakfast buffet was also entirely delicious! It was a bit disappointing that there wasn't a cold bath in the sauna, but it was still a great facility! We would love to stay again! Thank you very much!

The staff is disappointing.
The Onsen in the room is truly wonderful, and I have been using it frequently since it first opened. However, each time I visit, the number of Japanese staff decreases, and the number of foreign staff increases. I hadn't been concerned about it as I hadn't experienced much inconvenience before, but this time, the person in charge at check-in had difficulty communicating in Japanese. Even when there was a misunderstanding, there was no apology at all, and I had to go out of my way to confirm with another staff member multiple times. I understand that foreign staff are present to assist foreign guests, but I hope that at least those who can communicate smoothly in Japanese will handle Japanese guests. The Onsen and meals were as satisfying as ever, which made the disappointing response from the staff all the more noticeable.

Beautiful Hotel
The interior inspired by Japan was lovely. However, the bath is outside, so there is a possibility that it can be seen from the road, but there is a bamboo blind to hide it, which might reduce the sense of openness. The large public bath-like spa also doesn't have a view of the outside, so it might be fine if you're not looking for an Onsen-like experience. The meals were delicious. It was nice that despite being a stylish Hotel, you could go to dinner and breakfast in a yukata.
