    The ocean-view bath is amazing!

    In Kii-Katsuura, there are many Accommodations with ocean-view Rooms and baths overlooking the sea. Among them, this Accommodation feels more special than anywhere else. You can watch boats pass by from your Room, and the view from the spacious open-air bath is amazing! There are also two footbaths! From the pier, you take a boat to reach the Accommodation. It’s also nice that only guests can access the Hotel! By the way, are Diamond member benefits only for the first night? I should have checked on the spot!

    This is my favorite accommodation.

    I stayed here on my birthday last year and had a wonderful time, so this time I stayed for two nights to celebrate my friend’s birthday as well. The meals, the baths, and the hospitality were all excellent—I was completely satisfied! I’m also grateful to the staff member who took care of us. Thank you for bringing the cake to our Room after dinner. I was also happy to receive the flower gift from the Accommodation. We could see the ocean from our Room, and it almost felt like a waste to go out. It’s quite far from Yokohama, but I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you as well for the Diamond Member benefits. We went fishing, but perhaps as a safety precaution, the barbs on the hooks were too small and we couldn’t keep bait on them. Since I usually enjoy fishing, it was disappointing, but next time I’d like to bring my own hooks and bait.

    The meals are very d...

    The meals are very delicious—among the best Japanese cuisine I have ever had. The private open-air bath is not an Onsen, but it is relatively spacious and has a great view. If I had to mention one thing, even though there is a free lounge downstairs, I would have liked drinks such as alcohol to be stocked in the Room refrigerator. In other Hotels with Rooms that include a private open-air bath, complimentary in-Room drinks are often provided. I would also like the dining area to offer beer options other than Asahi. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

    Highly satisfied

    We stayed from 8/11 to 8/13. Our family takes a trip every year during the Obon holidays. The Ryokan we booked on IKYU over the past couple of years were disappointing, but this year we were completely satisfied. The large public bath and open-air bath were spacious, had great views, and were very clean (the tiles were not slippery at all). Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The staff’s smiles and hospitality were wonderful. Our Room also had an ocean view with beautiful scenery. While exploring the island, we found a footbath where we could soak our feet and enjoy the sea view at the same time. It became a great 3-day, 2-night family trip with wonderful memories. We immediately recommended it to our friends, and would like to stay again in a different season.

    Have a wonderful trip.

    The Room and the open-air bath were wonderful. Thank you very much for your special consideration in serving our meal early so we could watch the fireworks festival. Our stay at this Accommodation truly brightened our trip to Kumano.

    Wonderful Ryokan

    The Onsen water quality, views, meals, and Room style were all excellent. The service was wonderful as well. As a Diamond member, I received many thoughtful touches—I'm truly grateful. It’s a long trip for me, but this Ryokan is absolutely worth visiting! Highly recommended.

    We had a wonderful stay.

    From the moment we arrived at the pier, our escape from everyday life began. Everyone at the Accommodation was kind and welcoming, making our stay truly comfortable. Soon after arriving, we took a walk along the summit promenade and were uplifted by the breathtaking views. The Onsen was wonderful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meals. It was a stay that made us sincerely want to return again when we have the chance.

    Whenever I visit Katsuura, I stay with Nakanoshima, and I am always impressed by the staff’s thoughtful hospitality. It is a very comfortable Ryokan. Thank you very much.

    I stayed here in the early 1970s. It was a long time ago, so my memory isn’t entirely clear, but the interior seemed to have changed. However, everyone’s hospitality was just as wonderful as it was back then. Thank you for seeing me off with big waves for so long, until I turned the corner and disappeared from view.

    Disappointing considering the Review rating and the price.

    I had high expectations based on the Reviews, but it felt like the accommodation cost didn’t match what was offered. The food was also disappointing—more about looking good than being thoughtfully prepared. The dining area was loud and bustling, not a relaxing atmosphere for a meal. There were no instructions at the exit from the indoor bath on how to get to the open-air bath, so it was hard to figure out where to go. It seems you’re supposed to put on slippers and go down the stairs from the indoor bath to reach it, but the slippers were messy or not available depending on timing. Overall cleanliness also felt lacking. The in-Room open-air bath faces the pier, so it seemed visible to people fishing or using boats. A bathing cover-up was provided and I was expected to wear it, but that made it hard to relax. It was also so small that only one person could fit. If you need to wear a bathing cover-up in the Room open-air bath, I’d want to know that before making a Reservation. The boat-access location was nice, and many of the staff were kind.

    I had long hoped to stay here if I ever visited Kumano. On this trip, to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we visited Hana-no-Iwaya Shrine in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, and made a pilgrimage to the Kumano Sanzan, and we were able to stay here. The Accommodation setting, the view from the window, the Onsen, and the meals were all wonderful, and they soothed our tired bodies after visiting shrines and driving. But what impressed us most was the staff—everyone greeted us with bright smiles and cheerful energy. My wife carefully brought home the 40th anniversary flower arrangement we received all the way back to Tokyo and has it on display. On our way back, we stopped by Hashigui-iwa as recommended at check-out, then went to Tsubaki Cafe at Cape Shionomisaki (unexpectedly stylish), where we enjoyed a delicious iced coffee while looking out over the vast Pacific Ocean—though not cocoa as recommended. Thank you for your helpful suggestions. We will definitely stay again when we travel to Nanki.

    Highly satisfying

    We stayed as a couple. Compared with our past trips, our overall satisfaction was very high. In particular, the staff’s service was excellent. It was clear they are well trained, and we felt that each person understands their role in enhancing the Hotel’s prestige. Since reaching the Hotel requires traveling by boat, coordinating our preparations with the departure time was the only slight concern. Even so, it is a Hotel we both would like to return to.

    The seaside open-air bath is the best.

    The seaside open-air bath is outstanding. The water temperature is perfect for relaxing at a leisurely pace. The renovated guest rooms are spacious and comfortable. The promenade for early-morning walks let us fully enjoy the resort atmosphere.

    Wonderful

    From the special feeling of taking a boat to the island, you can enjoy an entire island that serves as an Accommodation, with walking paths and a seaside footbath. The top recommendation is the exceptionally delicious cuisine. The staff are courteous and make you feel at ease. The Onsen water is also excellent, and it’s an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

    Celebrating My Mother’s Birthday

    We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s birthday. I had informed you in advance that she has difficulty walking, and I was told a wheelchair would be available, but on the day—despite the heavy rain—she had to walk from the parking lot to the pier using a cane and holding an umbrella, with no assistance at all. Inside the facility, we were also expected to walk a long distance to the large public bath wearing shared indoor slippers for both men and women, and I felt more consideration could have been provided.

    A bit disappointing.

    The Onsen was very good. The highly rated service felt scripted. While explaining things and greeting us, the staff often did not make eye contact and seemed clearly focused on their next task. While we were having dinner, they laid out the futons, but a backpack left on the tatami had been casually placed on the low table. Putting it on the table? It left a bad impression. Dinner was underwhelming. Breakfast was okay. They are making various efforts, so I hope both hospitality and the meals will improve.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The food was well balanced in both quantity and quality, and we really enjoyed it. We were satisfied to be able to relax while looking out at the sea. This is an Accommodation we would like to stay at again if we have the chance.

    The Onsen, Room, meals, staff, and service were all excellent. I’ve stayed at various Hotels over the past 3–4 years, but I don’t think I saw a single foreign staff member here. That felt truly rare these days. I was most looking forward to the Onsen, but every meal was delicious and very filling—this is a Hotel that made me want to come back. Thank you for the flowers after I wrote that we were celebrating a 60th birthday and included a message.

    It was amazing.

    Everything was wonderful! It was so amazing that I wished we had stayed for two nights. Since the entire island is an Accommodation, we could fully enjoy the beauty of the sea from the Room and the bath, and it was great to see the displayed raw Nachiguro stones and to have meals made with local ingredients. The Wakayama sake was also delicious. Breakfast was outstanding as well. It was a delicious Japanese-style meal, and I especially loved that the buffet included locally made rice-flour bread and sweet red bean paste, so I could make anko toast. I took a walk outside in the morning, and I was moved by the incredible views. The only thing was that sleeping with just futons made the tatami feel a bit hard on my back, so it would have been perfect if there had been something like a mattress topper.

    An Accommodation with an Open-Air Bath Under a Sky Full of Stars and Warm Hospitality

    I visited for a slightly early birthday trip. From the pick-up at the station, the staff’s hospitality was wonderful, and thank you for the lovely flowers as well. The open-air bath was amazing! It feels connected to the sea, and at night you’re surrounded by a sky full of stars. (The stairs down to the open-air bath were a little scary, though.) The oolong tea in the post-bath lounge seemed so good for you. The dishes were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Shabu-shabu with grated kumquat—what a treat! And of course, the fish was very fresh. Everyone in Katsuura was kind. It’s a bit far, but I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    The island is the Accommodation, and the Accommodation is the island.

    There were a few minor things that caught my attention, but it was an exciting Hotel (island). Even the open-air bath, which is quite visible from outside, wasn’t a bad thing. I’d like to upgrade the Room to the next level and visit again. If possible, this is an Accommodation I’d like to go to on a perfectly clear day.

    We were completely satisfied with the views, the Onsen, and the meals at this Hotel.

    We stayed here for my husband’s birthday, and both the meals and the Onsen were excellent. The flower arrangement in our Room added a special touch to our celebration day. Thank you very much for your thoughtful hospitality. The private bath was surprisingly spacious—almost too large for just the two of us—with both an indoor and an outdoor bath, and the free-flowing hot spring water was wonderful. The lounge was also comfortable and well kept, with staff present to maintain it properly. Both breakfast and dinner were carefully prepared and truly delicious.

    Odor Coming from the Room Bathroom

    There was a very strong unpleasant odor coming from the bathroom in the Room. I would not mind at all if it were the sulfur smell typical of an Onsen, but this was a foul, rotten sewage-like smell that seemed to be leaking from the bathroom plumbing. Since there is a large public bath, I did not need to use the Room bathroom, but even with the ventilation fan running at full power, the washroom was filled with the odor. I reported this to the Hotel via the in-room “Guest Feedback” form, but I still do not know what caused it. I was very satisfied with both the food and service, so this was very disappointing.

    An accommodation where you can fully enjoy the blessings of the land.

    I visited after completing the Omine Okugake Trail. From the mountains to the sea in an instant. The fact that you can only reach the Accommodation by boat adds a wonderful sense of escape. I arrived a little early, but my Room was ready and I was shown in. I had been thinking I might go fishing if it wasn’t ready, so I skipped fishing instead. From the Room, the ocean is right in front of you, and you can also see the dolphin pens—I spotted their dorsal fins many times. It may be an older place, but it was clean and very comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast featured plenty of local specialties from Nachikatsuura—tuna, Pacific saury, Kumano beef, and more—so I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Above all, the Onsen here is outstanding. A faint emerald-green hue with the scent of sulfur mixed with sea breeze. The sound of fresh spring water overflowing, fishing boats passing right in front of you, and the ancient land of Kumano all around. This is an Accommodation where you can truly feel grateful for nature’s blessings. Kumano ingredients and Onsen blessings from deep underground—and soaking while taking in Kumano’s scenic views. Pure luxury. The hospitality was also excellent; both younger staff and behind-the-scenes team members were pleasant and attentive, leaving me feeling refreshed. I was very satisfied. I will definitely return.

    I would definitely stay here again.

    We stayed this time to relax in the Onsen and also to celebrate my parents’ 90th birthday. First of all, all the staff were very pleasant, and even the younger staff worked efficiently—I felt it had been a long time since I’d stayed at such a good Accommodation. There were complimentary drinks and ice cream in the lounge by the front desk and in the post-bath relaxation area, which we really appreciated. The Onsen was just as wonderful as expected. The water is silky and gentle, so you can soak for as long as you like. The view from the open-air bath was also beautiful and helped us forget everyday life. The bathing area was spacious enough to feel comfortable, allowing us to truly unwind. In addition, the interior and our Room had been tastefully renovated in a Japanese style, giving it a luxurious feel. Even though it feels a bit far for those of us living in Kansai, it’s an Accommodation that definitely makes you want to return.

    It was the most comfortable Accommodation.

    We arrived from Nara via the Hanwa Expressway in heavy snowfall on regular tires. As the forecast predicted the heaviest snowfall of the season that day, I emailed the Hotel several times in advance to ask which route would be best, and each time they responded very politely and thoroughly. Our Room was in the older Shio-kikitei wing, but it was a refined, wonderful top-floor suite—so spacious it almost felt overwhelming. It came with a private open-air natural Onsen bath, and after driving in snowy conditions, we were soothed by the spectacular view and the silky smooth spring water with its gentle sulfur scent. By chance, that Room happened to be available, and for some reason on IKYU’s side it was nearly half price—an incredibly lucky deal. Since I had mentioned this trip was before my job transfer, they also prepared flowers on the table, which made me very happy. The meals were all excellent—especially the shabu-shabu with such richly flavored dashi it felt almost too good to waste. Our table attendant “Bun-chan” explained each dish carefully, and the souvenir shop “Minetatsu” at Nigiwai Market near the port that we were introduced to was also great. I also had a lively conversation with another guest from Saitama at the Hotel’s large public bath, making this a truly memorable stay.

    The views, Onsen, service, and staff hospitality were especially impressive.

    We stayed for two nights, and with the good weather it was a truly wonderful stay. View: The sea came right up to below our Room, and the sunset was absolutely beautiful. The view from the observation deck at the end of the walkway connected to the rooftop was also great. Onsen: Plenty of hot water at a comfortable temperature. The open-air bath felt very spacious, and we were able to fully enjoy bathing. Service: We appreciated being able" to have coffee and snacks in the lobby at any time. Staff: Many of them were young, but everyone worked efficiently. Many also spoke fluent English. In particular, the young woman who served us at dinner was cheerful, a great conversationalist, and flexible in her service, which made the meal very enjoyable.

    Completely satisfied with everything!

    We stayed here for a commemorative trip to celebrate a special occasion. We were truly moved by the warm congratulations and thoughtful hospitality from all the staff. The staff were consistently courteous and kind throughout our stay. We felt well cared for in every situation and were able to relax with peace of mind. The Room and the view were outstanding. With an ocean view and located on a remote island, it was wonderfully quiet. We could forget about everyday life and enjoy a slow, relaxing time. Due to allergies and health reasons, there were many ingredients I couldn’t eat, but they kindly adjusted the menu and confirmed each dish when serving. Thanks to that, we could enjoy everything safely and deliciously. The Onsen was also truly wonderful. We were lucky with the weather—morning and evening baths while looking out at the sea right in front of us were incredible, and at night the sky full of stars was breathtaking. We also appreciated that the lounge was available 24 hours a day. Our whole family agreed: “We definitely want to come back!” This Accommodation is one we would love to visit again. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us during our stay. We look forward to staying again for another anniversary or reward trip, and we will be back.
