Dinner was excellent.
Overall, I think it is a lovely Accommodation and space, but I felt it was a little inconvenient. The route from the living room to the bathroom and washbasin area is via an outdoor corridor, and since we stayed during extreme heat, it was very hot. Also, the towel storage is in a different area from the bathroom. I also had the impression that there were not many staff members. The meals were excellent—perfect score.

It was a wonderful accommodation.
A trip to Nara in the heat. But staying at this wonderful Accommodation helped me recover from the fatigue. I had written a birthday message for my friend, and they even surprised us by celebrating at breakfast. All of the staff were kind. This has become one of the Accommodations I’d like to stay at again.

Your First Visit to Nara
It was my first time visiting Nara. I was very satisfied with my first stay at Kaze no Naramachi. The hospitality was wonderful in every aspect—from the service and the Room to the meals and thoughtful care. The weather was bad, so sightseeing did not go as planned, but I would like to stay again and fully enjoy what Nara has to offer. Thank you as well for the delicious sake.

Sake Pairing
We enjoyed an excellent pairing of French cuisine and sake. Starting with a sparkling sake, then moving on to Junmai Ginjo and Junmai Daiginjo, the aromas and fruitiness became more pronounced, creating a wonderful match with each dish. We visited for our wedding anniversary; since it wasn’t a milestone year, we didn’t request flowers, but at the end they served a chocolate message plate, which made for some great photos. The historic building was very soothing and relaxing. Thank you very much.

An Accommodation where you can enjoy the unique charm of Nara
It was a wonderful Accommodation that blended beautifully into the charming streetscape of Naramachi. The space, making good use of a historic building, had great character, and we were able to enjoy the relaxed pace that is unique to Nara. The Room also had a calm atmosphere, and being able to see deer from the window made us very happy and became an unforgettable memory. All of the staff were courteous, and we enjoyed the meals as well. The location was convenient for sightseeing, allowing us to fully experience the appeal of Nara. One thing we noticed was the amount of hot water in the bath. It seemed that the fill volume for the bathtub was preset, so we couldn’t fill it completely; when bathing, the water level reached only around our chest. We had been looking forward to soaking up to our shoulders at a leisurely pace, so being able to adjust the water level would make it even more comfortable. We also felt some slipperiness on the wooden floor inside the bathtub area, which raised a slight concern regarding cleanliness. Precisely because it is such a lovely Accommodation, we believe addressing this would make future stays even more comfortable. Overall, it was an attractive Accommodation where we could truly feel Nara’s atmosphere and history. We would love to stay again if we have another opportunity to visit Nara. Thank you very much.

Our second stay at NIPPONIA HOTEL made us even bigger fans.
On my first trip back to Nara in a while, I chose NIPPONIA HOTEL, which I became a fan of after staying at their property in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture. This stay was even better than expected and truly outstanding. The beautifully renovated Rooms and dining spaces in a historic sake brewery, the peaceful setting surrounded by greenery despite being near Nara Station—with deer even wandering into the garden—the dinner that blends Japanese and French cuisine paired with locally brewed Nara sake, and strolling around the area through atmospheric Naramachi—all of it was memorable. We stayed as a family, and not only my husband but also our university-aged son loved it, saying, “This place is really amazing!” These days even a modest Onsen Ryokan can easily cost 40,000–50,000 yen per person, so being able to stay at an Accommodation of this quality in Nara for around the 30,000-yen range per person feels like excellent value.

In a word, it was a ...
In a word, it was a somewhat disappointing stay. We visited with high expectations based on ratings on IKYU and Google Maps. However, we were greeted by a woman whose manner was extremely businesslike, which immediately dampened our mood. Our Room was No. 108, described as a tea room with a garden view. Unfortunately, the tea room did not seem well maintained: playing cards—likely left by a previous guest—had fallen into the sunken hearth area along with dust; the walls were peeling; and the sliding doors were covered in scratches. There were signs of past leaks in the Room, and there was even a blue tarp on the roof. Where there appeared to have once been sliding doors separating it from the adjacent bedroom, there was only a paper notice saying it was closed off, carelessly taped up with cellophane tape. The tatami mats also showed significant age and wear. Since this tea room should have been a relaxing space, we were truly disappointed by its condition. Having stayed the previous night at NIPPONIA HOTEL Maruto Shoyu Tawaramoto—where both the Facility and staff were excellent—the contrast made our disappointment even greater. We did enjoy the food, and the location is great, which makes this all the more unfortunate. I understand that maintaining a historic building comes with many challenges, but because it felt so disappointing overall, I am posting this Review in hopes it will be helpful to others. When we mentioned these issues at checkout, we were told that repair work had already been ordered. For what it’s worth, when we returned after checkout to pick up our luggage following a walk around town, the male staff member who assisted us was very pleasant—so perhaps we were simply unlucky during our stay. For travelers especially, staff responsiveness can greatly affect an experience and leave a lasting impression on an entire trip. In the end, I honestly cannot understand why this property is rated so highly based on our stay here."""

It is a good Hotel.
It’s a bit of a walk from the station, but overall it was a very satisfying Hotel. The Room and the bath were both spacious, so we could relax comfortably, and we even saw deer coming to visit through the window. Breakfast was all delicious, and we enjoyed chatting with the staff as well. One note: light comes in through the interior window on the entrance side of the bedroom, so it would be nice if it could be darkened. Even so, we’d love to stay again!

It was a wonderful Hotel.
To reach the second-floor area, we had to use a narrow, steep box staircase, so I felt it might be difficult to stay here if my legs ever became weak—but it was an interesting experience all the same. The food and drinks were excellent, and the staff’s warm, hospitable service was truly pleasant.

We recommend the Plan with breakfast and dinner included!
A few years ago, I stayed at NIPPONIA Fukusumi Post Town Hotel in Tamba-Sasayama and was deeply impressed by the NIPPONIA Hotel concept. The staff who were in Fukusumi at the time were also wonderful people, and since then I’ve become a devoted NIPPONIA fan! This time, while exploring Naramachi, I came to stay here, and throughout my stay the staff’s attentiveness and thoughtful care were outstanding—making it a truly satisfying and memorable visit. We modern travelers are used to living spaces designed purely for convenience, but this place preserves the charm of a traditional machiya just as it was. The nostalgic atmosphere feels warm and welcoming; even the faint creak of the floors as you walk along the engawa corridor in your Room is somehow soothing. The entire “old-fashioned” ambiance helped me step away from the bustle and enjoy a genuinely relaxing time. At the same time, the water facilities are modern, spotless, and easy to use—I didn’t feel any inconvenience at all in my Room. And what I especially want to recommend to anyone considering a stay is choosing a Plan that includes both dinner and breakfast! Dinner was creative French cuisine with an exquisite balance of Japanese and Western elements. Using high-quality ingredients carefully selected for their origin, each dish was beautifully presented with a sense of seasonality—and as I ate, I couldn’t help blurting out “Wow—delicious!!” again and again. You can truly feel the chef’s ingenuity and dedication in every plate. For dessert this time, there was a spring-inspired sweet based on ichigo daifuku: you wrap strawberry and sweet bean paste in mochi yourself. It was playful and inventive—and absolutely superb, with perfect chewiness and an ideal sweetness from the strawberries. Breakfast was Japanese cuisine featuring local specialties such as Narazuke pickles. From the open kitchen we enjoyed freshly made chagayu (tea rice porridge) and kasujiru (sake lees soup), both exceptionally delicious. Having breakfast in one corner of this machiya—far from my usual rushed mornings—made for an especially tranquil experience; this refined Japanese breakfast felt truly extraordinary. I honestly want to come back just to enjoy those same dishes again! With the staff’s warm hospitality, exceptional creative cuisine available only here, and the comforting machiya atmosphere that lets you escape everyday life—everything combined to make this an outstanding Naramachi stay. Thank you so much for such a happy time!

The renovated traditional house had a calm atmosphere and matched the concept perfectly. Although the building is old, the Facility such as the plumbing, air conditioning, and bedding were new and comfortable. The meals exceeded expectations and were delicious. The staff were well trained and provided good service. The only disappointing points were that the parking area was hard to find and it took some time for hot water to reach the bath.

The meals were better than expected. Every dish made with Nara-style ingredients was delicious. Overall, I was satisfied, but it was a bit disappointing that after settling the bill at checkout, that was the end—there was no send-off.

The concept is good, but...
The concept is great, but overall satisfaction fell slightly short. I love renovated traditional Japanese houses, and I understand that some inconvenience adds to the charm. However, having to repeatedly climb steep box stairs just to use the first-floor toilet felt dangerous. Additionally, the only heating on the first floor was a small fan heater in the toilet, which made it quite cold! While this might be fine for younger guests, such temperature differences could be risky for older visitors. The noise from the neighboring restaurant didn’t bother me much thanks to the provided earplugs (!), and I slept well. As for that restaurant—while both taste and presentation were excellent—watching food wrapped in plastic being placed on plates didn’t convey much of an open kitchen’s appeal. The service also felt awkward (perhaps due to many part-time staff during a busy season?). While their earnest efforts were evident, there wasn’t much opportunity for enjoyable conversation or satisfactory answers about ingredients. Considering that enjoying sake is supposed to be a theme here, it was disappointing not to have any chance to learn about their dedication to sake brewing. What I found most inconvenient was that calling from outside only connects you with VMG Group’s central reception (this applies across other accommodations too). It felt frustrating having to relay what I had just discussed with staff members through an operator before getting a callback—it didn’t feel like personalized service (though they did handle things properly). This may sound critical because I truly love NIPPONIA accommodations and hope they continue improving even more! As a stylish hotel in town, it was still very nice overall.

When we requested a flat room for my elderly mother, they kindly provided a step at the entrance with a large threshold and a shower chair in the bathroom. The room was simple yet spacious and comfortable, making it a lovely accommodation. What surprised us was seeing Nara's famous deer visiting the garden to graze, which we could watch from our room. The concept of creating a quiet space was evident; while WiFi was available, there were no TVs or clocks in the room, which made it slightly inconvenient to check weather forecasts or news. After 9 PM, staff were not present at the front desk; however, their hospitality and service were excellent, allowing us to enjoy our stay comfortably. It is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

Surprise
I stayed on September 14th, and right upon arrival, I was surprised. When I got out of the car in the parking lot, I felt a gaze from behind. Turning around, there was a parent and child deer silently standing there! It startled me a bit. Now for my review of the Ryokan: I definitely want to stay here again. The staff's kind words, the delicious food, the charming atmosphere of the Ryokan, and its convenient location for sightseeing—everything was simply perfect!

Initially, I had a Reservation at VMG Grand, but luckily, I received a free upgrade to VMG Premier due to availability. Since it was an all-you-can-drink Plan, I enjoyed freely both in the Room and at Le Lien. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality.

Enjoy exquisite cuisine and fine wine
The dinner was delightful, both in taste and presentation. The variety of sake was impressive and paired wonderfully with the meal. The room was lovely, allowing for a very relaxing stay. It was a bit disappointing that laundry from nearby houses could be seen through the bathroom window, but the bathtub design made it easy to enjoy a half-body bath, which was excellent. A desk suitable for work would have been ideal; next time I stay, I might choose a different room. Overall, it was an excellent experience. Thank you very much!

Nara Sightseeing
This was my first time staying here. I was deeply impressed by the excellent service at every moment. The food was delicious, and I enjoyed pairing it with sake. The free drinks in the room were plentiful, and we ordered a snack set to relax as a family. Additionally, we encountered deer on the premises and enjoyed exploring Nara on foot starting from the accommodation. If there had been items like sake lees for baths or retail options for the sake served at your establishment, I would have loved to purchase them (apologies if they were available). Thank you very much for your hospitality!

We had a truly wonderful time.
Time flows differently in Nara. I’m glad I chose to stay for two nights. During my stay, a staff member asked if I had seen any baby deer. When I said no, they kindly guided me to the backyard where a baby deer and its mother were nearby. Although they quickly hid away, the baby deer was absolutely adorable. It was such a heartwarming experience! The breakfast offered was gentle on the body and perfect for starting the day. I couldn’t help but go for seconds of both rice and soup. Dinner was also delicious; however, since I'm not strong with alcohol, I ordered red wine with my meat dish instead of sake—something I slightly regret as this accommodation specializes in Japanese sake. In hindsight, even though I'm not much of a drinker, sake would have been the better choice. One highlight was that all drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary! During my stay, I became hooked on "Nara no Awa," a light sparkling alcoholic beverage that left such an impression that after returning home, I searched online to order it—it’s unforgettable! Since it’s so light and refreshing, it disappeared quickly during my stay—I enjoyed several bottles. The only downside is something inherent to traditional Japanese houses: sounds from upstairs like footsteps or alarms are quite audible. The provided earplugs made sense once you experience this firsthand; however, noise-canceling headphones worked well for me personally. That said, staying on the first floor allowed direct access to a beautifully maintained courtyard featuring wisteria trellises—a unique charm of this accommodation! It must be breathtaking during wisteria season. Overall, thanks to the calm demeanor of all staff members and their attentive service throughout our visit—it truly felt like an extraordinary escape from daily life! This being my first time staying at NIPPONIA has made me eager to explore other NIPPONIA accommodations as well. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Welcome to Nara!
The room was a special one with a story, as it was said that Mr. Suzuki once looked out from its window. Having seen posters of Nara at the station every day during my commute, I felt quite moved to finally visit (laughs). The hotel is located on a quiet street surrounded by residential areas. While it might feel slightly far from the station if you have large luggage, it is still within walking distance. The stay included two meals, which were both delicious and served in a lovely atmosphere. I opted for sake pairing but noticed that wine and other beverages were also available. At first, I thought there were snacks placed by the bedside, but they turned out to be earplugs! This made me slightly anxious; however, it turned out to be very quiet thanks to considerate guests around me—so much so that the silence became noticeable. The bathroom facilities were modern and comfortable. Since I'm used to hotels with auto-lock systems, I felt slightly uneasy about using traditional keys here; however, everything else about this accommodation was exceptional. The staff members were relatively young but provided excellent service with a sense of stability even for solo travelers like myself. Highly recommended!

The dinner was exceptionally delicious.
We visited for the first time for a family birthday. A lovely property with only 8 rooms, we enjoyed a relaxing time in a Japanese-style setting. There are no TVs or clocks, allowing for a peaceful flow of time. Right after check-in, we toasted with champagne. We enjoyed a leisurely chat in the room. The best part of this stay was the dinner. Starting with appetizers, the dishes were visually appealing and delicious, and the conger eel and sea bass dishes were particularly delightful. It was also my first time trying Nara craft beer, and it was very tasty. The cypress bath was also nice. When lying down, it felt a bit unstable, so I thought it would be even better with a handrail. The staff were all smiles, providing smooth and attentive service, making it a very pleasant experience. This property is recommended for those who want to spend a relaxing time. We will visit again.

A serene and relaxing space for adults.
The old building has been carefully renovated, creating a nostalgic yet beautiful space where we could spend a very quiet and relaxing time. The dinner course was extremely delicious, and the selection of sake was excellent. All the staff members were young, but they were attentive and provided excellent service, allowing us to enjoy our stay comfortably. We look forward to visiting again in a different season.

Use in conjunction with the Wakakusa Yamayaki Festival.
Thank you very much for your hospitality on the day of our stay. We visited for the annual Wakakusa Yamayaki Festival at Nara Park in January and stayed at your Hotel. The staff were all lively and provided very pleasant service. The atmosphere within the Hotel was wonderful, exuding a sense of tradition and charm. Although we only had breakfast, we would like to try dinner and sake next time. As a suggestion for improvement, perhaps placing Wi-Fi information in a prominent location within the Hotel or guest rooms could be helpful. While we enjoyed relaxing on the tatami, having something with a backrest might have been more comfortable. As there were two women in our group, the spaciousness of the washroom was appreciated, but perhaps having two sinks (or slightly larger mirrors) could be considered. We wish your Hotel continued success and prosperity. It was a truly wonderful trip.

Thank you for your kind support.
We stayed on January 25th. It was a memorable day as we happened to see the Wakakusa Yamayaki and fireworks. Our Room was Room 102, which apparently used to be a Room where people involved in traditional sake brewing stayed. The location was excellent, and we were able to park our car and enjoy Naramachi. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality.

A property where you can enjoy alcohol.
You can enjoy delicious drinks and cuisine. We stayed in a room with a cypress bath. There is also a courtyard, adding to the charm. The room's refrigerator is well-stocked with complimentary drinks, so ordering a snack set via room service will be more than satisfying as an aperitif. Access to the parking lot is a bit challenging, but it is thoroughly detailed on the property's website.

I stayed for one night alone after a business trip. Since it was an all-inclusive Plan, I enjoyed sparkling wine as soon as I got to the Room, started with champagne at dinner, and savored the recommended sake. The counter seating was perfect for solo dining, and the food paired excellently with the drinks, making it very delicious. The garden view from the window was lovely, and I heard that deer sometimes come to visit, so I would love to stay in the same Room again.

Nostalgic
I stayed at the Nipponia series for the first time in Dazaifu, and this time I tried Nara. It felt like staying in a nostalgic room. Although nostalgic, the water facilities were easy to use, which was nice. Last time in Dazaifu, I found it difficult to locate the place and parking, and I researched the location myself, but again this time, I couldn't find both the parking and the location, leading to a terrible start with arguments with my husband every time... I understand that it's hard to find and the roads are narrow because it's traditional... For those considering staying and going by car, please do your best. Although there are explanations about the parking on the website and Instagram, I think it's difficult with just photos from one direction when visiting a place for the first time without any sense of the area.
