Not only the Hotel, but everyone we met was wonderful—Hakodate left a great impression!
This was my first trip to Hakodate. There is only one direct flight a day from Nagoya, and I was incredibly lucky to get a ticket. Visiting a new place for the first time is so exciting. The Room had huge floor-to-ceiling windows with a panoramic view of Mt. Hakodate. The space was generous, and the bathtub and sink were spacious as well. The lighting switches were thoughtfully placed throughout, making everything very convenient—it was almost too comfortable! Dinner at Kita Jin (booked separately) was also excellent: premium Genghis Khan in a private room, relaxed and delicious. Breakfast was around 8:00, and we were seated right away. We came without much prior knowledge and were amazed by the variety—and even more by the quality of every dish. My spouse and I travel all over the whole country, and this may have been our best breakfast ever. Personally, I loved the eel snack with tea, dim sum, sashimi, chiffon cake, and egg tarts. What stayed with us most from this trip was meeting so many wonderful people in Hakodate: The kind driver with a great smile on the airport limousine bus. At lunchtime at Lucky Pierrot near the station—busy as it was—a female staff member still let us draw an Ichiban Kuji lottery ticket and gave us a pin badge with a big smile. At NIPPONIA Hotel Hakodate Port Town on our first day—a female staff member kindly explained everything and gave us a hand-drawn illustrated map of nearby spots within walking distance. On an evening sightseeing taxi tour to see Mt. Hakodate’s night view—a female driver born in Hakodate from Donan Taxi carefully explained local history, the Western-style houses in Motomachi, and the origins of Soma-tei. The staff who made our motorboat cruise even more enjoyable under clear skies the next day. At lunch near the station at Uni Specialty Shop Yoichiya—a female employee whose attentiveness and refined service truly impressed us. And above all, at Century Marina’s front desk—the female staff member who kindly explained everything for our first stay left a wonderful impression with her polite service; of course, the male staff member at checkout was also outstanding. The quick yet courteous service at Kita Jin was excellent as well—we are truly grateful to have stayed at this Hotel. It was an intense 2-night/3-day trip to Hakodate, but seeing everyone working so hard to make their city shine really moved us—it looked genuinely inspiring. We will definitely come again. I truly fell in love with historic Hakodate from the bottom of my heart!

I stayed here again ...
I stayed here again this year, following last year’s visit. The staff were kind and always smiling—wonderful as always. Perhaps due to rising prices, the breakfast buffet no longer had melon among the fruits, which was available last year. I was really looking forward to it, so that was very disappointing. I think it would be fine to reduce the variety of fruits or jams, but I’d love to see melon return and a bit more of a “summer in Hokkaido” feel. Also unchanged is the system for entering the breakfast venue: you take a numbered ticket and then wait there until your turn. The shop next to the entrance also gets crowded with people trying to kill time while waiting. Since breakfast is clearly very popular, I don’t understand why they haven’t introduced a QR-code/mobile waitlist system at reception so guests can wait elsewhere. Because of my schedule, I wanted an in-room bath, so I stayed in a ReFa Room that happened to be available. The Room was spacious and very convenient with a mini-kitchen and washing machine. The in-room shower head was ReFa as expected, but unlike the ReFa shower heads in the public bath, it was very large and awkward to use. The ReFa towels were fluffy and felt great, but they shed lint badly. Even when I changed the temperature setting, the air conditioner kept reverting back to 25°C cooling on its own, which made the Room cold. Even after turning it off before sleeping, it somehow turned back on during the night and I woke up cold and couldn’t sleep well. Unfortunately I only realized what was happening on my last night there—very frustrating. I was also surprised because I didn’t realize the stay benefits were provided per night rather than per stay. That said, overall the services are excellent and the location is great, so I would stay again. When staying multiple nights next time, it doesn’t have to be a ReFa Room—I found this Room type’s layout comfortable enough that I’d choose it again regardless of that feature set.

It was the best breakfast I’ve ever had.
We stayed for two nights starting August 11. For dinner, we went to Sushi-dokoro Kihara nearby and the Hakodate Beer Garden in the Red Brick Warehouse district. So we chose the plan with breakfast, and it far exceeded the rumors—we were amazed. From seafood in the morning to an excellent selection of salads and desserts, everything was outstanding. There was a large bowl piled high with salmon roe, and I enjoyed it with rice at a 1:1 ratio. It also seemed to be during a Thai food fair, and my wife really got into the Thai dishes. I’m over 60 years old, but this was the most luxurious breakfast I’ve ever had. Thanks to that, we were so full that we couldn’t eat lunch on either day.\nAlso, we stayed in a Family Suite on the 13th floor—a private room with a free-flowing natural Onsen bath. The tea-brown mineral-rich water was incredibly luxurious and made for a wonderfully relaxing soak. We would definitely like to stay again next time.

The best approach is not to expect anything.
I stayed during the busy summer vacation season. Despite the high price, it felt like a Business Hotel. Don’t set your expectations too high!

A mother-and-daughter trip
I stayed for one night with breakfast included. The triple Room on the 4th floor of the East Wing was spacious and spotless, and we could even see cruise ships in the harbor through the large window. One of the three beds was a double bed, so I slept comfortably—it was perfect. For breakfast, I chose the charcoal-grill restaurant on the 2nd floor because I wanted to take my time; the portion size was just right, and having freshly cooked rice with salmon roe felt uniquely Hokkaido. There were also plenty of carefully prepared desserts to choose from, and the staff were kind and attentive, so I was very satisfied. When I emailed to request a Hotel brochure and a sightseeing map, they sent them to me, which I really appreciated. The lobby’s complimentary drinks offered a good variety as well, and they tasted great when I came back from the hot weather outside. If I have another chance to travel to Hakodate, this is definitely a Hotel I’d like to stay at again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

I think this is a very good Hotel. The location is excellent (close to the station and the morning market, and also near the airport limousine bus stop), the food is delicious, and there is a wonderful Onsen. If I have the chance to visit Hakodate again, I would definitely stay here without hesitation.

It’s crowded…
I made a Reservation looking forward to the famous breakfast. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the pillow bar and aroma service were excellent. However, there were so many guests that both the bath and the breakfast restaurant were packed with people... Honestly, it was exhausting. I was satisfied with the bath Facility as well as the extensive breakfast menu and taste, but next time I’d like to stay on a less crowded day.

The breakfast is excellent.
Breakfast offers a wide variety of options—not only seafood, but also delicious Western-style dishes and sweets. The fresh vegetables are outstanding.

I was truly impresse...
I was truly impressed that the Room had a washing machine. Since doing laundry after returning from a trip can be surprisingly burdensome, I really appreciated it. The bed was also very comfortable, and the night view of Hakodate from the open-air bath was beautiful, so I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. On the other hand, I was disappointed with the meals because my expectations were high. The dining area felt somewhat cramped and crowded, and it wasn’t an atmosphere where you could relax and enjoy your meal at a leisurely pace. The sashimi—especially the scallops—didn’t feel very fresh, and overall the fruit and other dishes tasted rather bland. I had been told that “the meals are a highlight,” which raised my expectations. This may suit those who want to eat plenty and feel satisfied for now, but those who want to savor quality ingredients and flavors may find it lacking.

The Room is clean, but it is almost empty with hardly anything provided, and there is no bottled water.
The Wi‑Fi hardly works, and even when it does, it’s so slow it’s frustrating. The robatayaki breakfast was honestly disappointing. When it’s hot, getting here from the station is unpleasant and not ideal. The breakfast buffet in Hakodate uses pretty much the same ingredients everywhere, so it feels similar no matter where you go. I also wonder what happens to the leftover food. And the breakfast fee is expensive too.

A Breakfast to Remember!
The Onsen, guest room, and staff service were all excellent. I couldn’t decide between the popular breakfast buffet and the seafood robatayaki set. Since I was staying three more nights elsewhere, I chose the seafood robatayaki. The taste, quality, presentation, portion size, and hospitality were all outstanding. It was the best Hotel breakfast I’ve had in Japan—No. 1. Nothing to complain about. I’ll definitely be back next time.

Being able to enjoy ...
Being able to enjoy a free-flowing Onsen in the Room was wonderful If there are no towels in the public bath, I would like an extra set of towels in the guest room in advance, and a bathrobe would be even better I hadn’t looked into the various Royal Floor perks, so it felt special Instead of the popular breakfast buffet, I chose the quieter restaurant, and it was absolutely the right choice for adults (though taking 1.5 hours is a drawback)

We recommend a Multiple Night Stay.
This Hotel came highly recommended by a friend for its wonderful breakfast, and it truly lived up to the praise. Both the buffet and the kaiseki-style breakfast were delicious and fun. Everything looked so good that I ended up eating far too much, so a bit of self-control might be needed (as usual, I still wasn’t hungry by lunchtime). The free-flow alcohol option also really lifted my spirits! In addition to breakfast, I’d also highlight the great location—about a 5-minute walk from Hakodate Station and around 3 minutes from the streetcar stop. The drum-type washer/dryer in the Room was very convenient during rainy weather and in seasons when you tend to sweat more (detergent is provided). One small note: the in-house loungewear is labeled “M” and “F,” so if you assume “M” means “women’s,” you may end up laughing like I did—“M” actually means a larger size, so it was very baggy on me. There are loungewear samples near the shop on 2F1, so I recommend checking them while you’re there to look at the pillow selection. I recommend both breakfast options (buffet and kaiseki), and the large public bath spanning two floors was also enjoyable. It’s a Hotel where I’d definitely like to book a Multiple Night Stay next time.

We used this accommodation for a father-and-daughter trip to Hakodate!
I have stayed at this Hotel three times, always alone on business trips. This time, I visited with my eldest daughter on a trip—her first time in Hakodate. She is a nurse and often works night shifts, so it’s hard for her to take a long break, but she asked me to take her to Hakodate, and we chose this Hotel. The room was comfortable, the large public bath was a relaxing Onsen, and above all, the breakfast was outstandingly delicious! It’s truly impressive that you have maintained this level of quality for nearly 10 years—I really respect the effort behind it. We were able to relax from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you very much! Please let us stay again!

Late Check-Out Policy
I was dissatisfied with how the late check-out was handled. I was given two key cards, and I left one inserted in the Room for electricity and air conditioning. During the late check-out procedure, the front desk told me they needed “the other key card,” so I carefully swapped the card without waking my wife who was resting in the Room and returned to the front desk. Then I was told that “both key cards are required,” which resulted in an unnecessary extra trip. If you had clearly informed me from the beginning that two cards were required, this could have been avoided. In addition, when I ended up going back and forth multiple times due to unclear instructions, it was disappointing to see a condescending expression from the front desk staff.

Thank you for your continued support.
Once again, I stayed for two nights on the 28th and 29th after the marathon and used the Royal Floor. Everything was excellent. I have already made my next Reservation as well. Thank you in advance, and I look forward to staying with you again.

Recommended for special occasions as well.
Because my partner and I have birthdays in the same month, I pre-ordered a surprise cake and other items to the Hotel for my partner while I was on a solo work assignment in Hakodate. On the day, the train I planned to take was canceled, so I called because I wouldn’t make it in time for delivery to the Room and asked to pick it up at the front desk at check-in. However, it was difficult to get into the elevator while carrying both my luggage and a large tray. I know it was my request, but I thought it would have been nice if someone had said something like “You can pick it up later,” or “Shall we bring it to your Room?” Still, both the cake and breakfast were delicious, and overall we were very satisfied.

The Best Breakfast
This was my third stay, and I’ve been able to relax and enjoy myself every time. Breakfast is the highlight—there are so many options it’s hard to choose, and everything is delicious, including fresh sashimi. I will definitely stay again next time!

The breakfast is amazing!!
Breakfast was served on the 2nd floor at Kitanoro. The generous variety and quality of the menu, including freshly cooked rice prepared after you are seated, made for outstanding hospitality and delicious food. I travel both in Japan and abroad, and this was the best breakfast I have ever had. The Room also had large, open windows facing Mt. Hakodate, and the counter by the window was convenient to use, creating a calm and comfortable space. This is a Hotel I would definitely recommend to friends.

Hakodate is the best.
I stayed here during Golden Week in April and visited again for a second time in June. The Onsen was excellent, and the breakfast course was truly relaxing. I would definitely like to visit once more within this year.

I felt truly happy.
What impressed me most was the breakfast. In addition to the carefully prepared dishes, the robatayaki scallops and fresh fish were excellent, and the Hokkaido rice cooked in a ceramic pot was also delicious. There was also a selection of toppings for rice, including salmon roe, making it a truly luxurious menu. All of the desserts were homemade and delicious. The free drinks included draft beer and sake, which made my husband very happy. The service was outstanding as well, and it’s a Hotel I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.

A Hotel with an Onsen and Great Views
The Room is average, but the view is great and it’s relaxing. However, the amenities were a bit disappointing both in the large public bath and in the Room. Being able to have a light meal and beer in front of the bath entrance is excellent. Breakfast has enough variety and volume to stay satisfying even on a Multiple Night Stay. However, it gets extremely crowded due to the elevators and restaurant being over capacity, so I felt some improvements are needed. The Hotel staff were somewhat reserved, but overall I was very satisfied.

I had a relaxing stay.
The Room had flooring for the first time in this Hotel, and it felt like being at home. The view was great, and of course the meals were delicious. However, it looks like a new building will be constructed right in front, and construction is currently underway. From the dining floor, it seems the sea and other views may no longer be visible. As expected of Japan’s best breakfast buffet, even with two nights we couldn’t try everything. Staying on the Royal Floor was wonderful because we could enter the breakfast buffet with priority without waiting in line. We were surprised by how long the line was. We also enjoyed a Royal Floor exclusive seafood bento box, but our stomachs weren’t big enough for it all. Thank you for all your help and hospitality. It was a very enjoyable trip.

The meals are delicious.
We stayed for one night starting June 12. There were three of us, including our son. For dinner, we ate at the yakiniku restaurant inside the Hotel. The jingisukan was delicious, but breakfast was especially great—we were surprised by the wide variety. What stood out most was the rice. We were impressed that it was kept in a pouch so it wouldn’t get cold, and the rice itself was excellent. Our son had nine bowls of the pouch-served rice across dinner and breakfast combined. He seemed very satisfied. We heard the rice was “Fukkurinko,” so we ordered it from JA Hakodate. The Room was clean, and the pillow rental service was also great. If we have another chance to visit Hakodate, we will stay here again.

The baths were excel...
The baths were excellent. In the open-air rooftop bath, I enjoyed imagining Mt. Hakodate through the small gaps in the privacy screen, and from the indoor bath I took in a spectacular panoramic view of Hakodate Bay. There were plenty of washing stations so I never had to wait, and depending on the area there were different branded shower heads as well as shampoos and conditioners to choose from, which was fun. The same went for the hair dryers in the changing room—enjoyable and stress-free. If I had one request, it would be for the large public bath to open a bit earlier so I can fully enjoy a morning soak before heading to the breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet lived up to its reputation for variety, but what stood out even more was the crowd—if it’s that busy on a normal Saturday morning, Sunday mornings or holiday periods must be intense. Perhaps because I arrived right after opening, I was seated without waiting, but there were long lines at each station (seafood, salads, egg dishes), and things felt a bit tense. For a while it wasn’t so much choosing what I wanted as grabbing whatever happened to be within reach. By the time I left, waits for food had eased considerably, but there was still a line of guests waiting outside to enter. Which is better—waiting outside or being seated but unable to get any food? Also, even though I would have been fine with pre-made poached eggs, you couldn’t get near any of the pre-made egg dishes unless you joined the long omelet-order line first; I’d like to see some improvements to traffic flow. The Room sofa was a space-saving type fixed against the wall; it was hard and narrow and not very comfortable to sit on.

The breakfast was excellent.
During my trip to Hakodate, I stayed one night each at three Hotels known for their excellent breakfast. Among them, Century Marina offered the best overall experience in terms of variety, taste, and service. I went early, and although I was traveling solo, I was shown to a window seat, which allowed me to enjoy a relaxed breakfast and start the day feeling great. My Room had a wonderful view with the Mashu Maru visible from the window, and the bathroom was very clean. This was the Hotel I was most satisfied with on this trip. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Hakodate
I stayed in a 10th-floor Room. I expected to have a beautiful view of Mt. Hakodate, but it was partially blocked by another Hotel, which was a bit disappointing—though most of it was still visible. A new Hotel is also being built right in front, and a tall crane was operating. I debated choosing a top-floor Room, but I wanted to relax on a sofa rather than at a table, so I chose this Room and ended up regretting it. The Onsen was very well cleaned and extremely sanitary, with many types of shampoo/conditioner and cosmetics available. There was also a high-end hair dryer. The open-air observation bath required going up an indoor staircase, and since I didn’t like moving up the stairs while unclothed, I only went once. I had been looking forward to the night view, but because it can be seen from outside, there was privacy netting—so it felt somewhat underwhelming. It can’t really be helped. The newly opened robatayaki-style breakfast was excellent. The food, atmosphere, and service were all great, and we could relax and enjoy our meal at our own pace—it was wonderful. On the second morning we had the buffet breakfast; both the selection and taste were good, but the clay-pot rice seemed to be brown rice? I wanted white rice. All staff members had wonderful smiles and made us feel comfortable, quickly clearing used plates as well—thank you very much. Everyone was great overall; however, one female front desk staff member spoke in such a strict tone that it always felt like we were being scolded. Since I also work in customer service myself, it reminded me to be mindful of my own approach.

There may be a wait time for breakfast.
Overall, I thought it was very good, but the wait time for breakfast felt a bit too long. I understand the breakfast buffet is a highlight and very popular, but I’ve never had to wait that long before (even though it was a weekday). It was clearly beyond capacity, so I accepted that even assigning time slots by Room probably wouldn’t improve things. Even after 7:00 a.m., the wait was still quite long, so if you don’t want to wait, I think you have to go first thing in the morning. The food itself lived up to its reputation and deserves high praise, but there were so many options that it’s hard to try a wide variety in just one night’s stay. I was also happy that alcohol was served free of charge from the morning, and along with seafood such as sashimi, it was one of the key points I rated highly. Also, I felt there were slightly too few elevators for the number of Rooms. In the morning it was crowded—I had to let two elevators go before I could finally get on. Still, I would like to stay again if I have another opportunity.

Wonderful.
One of the highlights of staying at this Hotel was breakfast, and just as the Reviews said, I was amazed by the huge variety—so much that I couldn’t finish everything. Also, not only sparkling wine but sake was all-you-can-drink, which was fantastic.
