It was excellent.
First of all, the meals were exceptional—truly a work of art. The flavors were outstanding. The hospitality was also excellent. Since it’s Kusatsu Onsen, the quality of the hot spring water is naturally superb, but with all private baths and an extraordinary atmosphere, it felt like another dimension. This was my second visit, and once again, it did not disappoint. I definitely want to visit again.

It seems that the staff are not fully utilizing the excellent Facility and environment.
This was my first revisit in 5 years. Last time, due to the pandemic, I chose a Room with a Private Onsen, and I made the same Reservation this time. 【Positive Points】 - Both dinner and breakfast were exceptionally high-level. The focus on local ingredients was impressive and left a very positive impression. *Price range: 70,000–80,000 yen per person per night.* I checked out the chef's Instagram account and could feel their passion for cooking. - The layout from the private Onsen → shower room → dressing/wash area is in a straight line, making it very convenient to use. - Children under 12 are not allowed, so it’s extremely quiet and comfortable. 【Areas for Improvement】 - The staff seemed somewhat inexperienced in customer service; their approach felt slightly awkward. - The bath in the Room was extremely hot—too hot even after stirring by hand—and only suitable for foot baths at best. Since there’s no temperature adjustment function available, you have no choice but to give up using it. *Out of three private baths available for reservation, one had a relatively manageable temperature (though manual stirring was still necessary).* - It would be appreciated if issues like refrigerator malfunctions or temperature control were managed better. *The free drinks inside (beer) were lukewarm—warmer than room temperature.* - In rooms with open ceilings where only the bed is on the second floor, you need to go down spiral stairs just to access items like small belongings or use the restroom downstairs—it’s quite inconvenient (though stylish). Considering that Kusatsu is such a renowned Onsen destination, I understand this price point might be inevitable; however, honestly speaking, I didn’t feel that level of comfort or hospitality matched its cost. Despite such an excellent environment and meal quality overall... somehow it didn’t leave me saying “This place is truly amazing!” which made this stay slightly disappointing overall.

Last year, I was invited by a colleague and stayed here for the first time. It was the most expensive place I had ever stayed at, and I hesitated at first, but it was worth every penny. Each dish was exquisite, with beautiful presentation that delighted the eyes, soothing aromas, and flavors that left me in awe. The private bath allowed me to relax completely and wash away my daily fatigue. The breakfast also showcased meticulous attention to detail in every dish—simply outstanding! This time, I brought my parents along to share this wonderful experience with them. They were overjoyed and said it was the best Ryokan they had ever stayed at. Since the menu changes with each season, I look forward to visiting during different times of the year. Thank you for everything; we’ll be back again!

This was my second stay.
This was my second visit. Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality. I thoroughly enjoyed the private Onsen. It was very convenient to check the availability of each bath from the Room. This time, I stayed in a maisonette-type Room, but I relaxed so much that I couldn't leave the bed and didn't use the living room on the first floor much, which is a slight regret... I will visit again!

It was an excellent Ryokan. The food was delicious, and the staff's hospitality was great. The only disappointment was that the shower temperature didn't rise, so I couldn't use it.

The meals are delicious, and the service is pleasant.
The accommodation is called "Kei," and the restaurant section is named "Kei" with an added touch of elegance. The cuisine reflects this concept, enhancing the natural flavors of ingredients with a thoughtful twist. Everything was delicious. With only seven groups staying at the accommodation, each table was prepared individually, allowing guests to enjoy their meals in a relaxed and charming atmosphere without feeling rushed. The explanations about the dishes were just right, adding an extra layer of enjoyment. There are three private Onsen baths available, and their availability can be checked using a tablet in your room. Two rooms also feature open-air baths attached to them, so there was always at least one bath available during our stay. This was our first visit to Kusatsu Onsen. Jizo-no-Yu is located right in front of the hotel; Yubatake is just a 5-minute walk away; and Sai-no-Kawara's large open-air bath can also be reached on foot easily. Sandals similar to Crocs are provided in each room for outdoor use. After checking in, you can take off your socks, grab a towel, slip into these sandals, and explore various footbaths around Kusatsu Onsen. The area around Kusatsu Onsen has many narrow streets, including those near the hotel itself. While the room doors are large and impressive-looking, the entrance floor space isn't very wide—this made it slightly inconvenient when opening or closing doors as we had to adjust our posture every time we left or entered the room.

The food was very delicious, and even my husband, who is particular about flavors, was very satisfied. Although my family was dissatisfied with the high temperature of the onsen, the accommodation staff addressed it, and I was pleased. The dishes were so good that I would love to have them again. First Visit to Kusatsu Onsen
Although we had never visited Kusatsu Onsen before, this time we were able to stay at Accommodation Kei and experience Kusatsu Onsen for the first time. It was also our first time staying at Accommodation Kei. When we arrived, it was pouring rain, so we cut our sightseeing short and arrived a bit earlier than planned. After check-in, we enjoyed a matcha cocktail in the lounge and took a moment to relax. We were then shown to our room. Originally, we had planned to explore Yubatake (the hot spring field), but due to the heavy rain outside, we decided to relax in our room until dinner. The reserved room came with an open-air bath, so I immediately enjoyed a soak with a beer in hand. Dinner was served on the second floor restaurant where we indulged in Japanese kaiseki cuisine that paired perfectly with sake. Both my wife and I ended up quite tipsy from the delicious food and drinks—thank you for such an amazing meal! When we returned to our room after dinner, the rain had stopped. In high spirits from the sake, we strolled through Yubatake's illuminated night scenery. The weather forecast predicted nighttime temperatures of just 2°C in Kusatsu; thankfully, bringing down jackets turned out to be wise! However, thanks to these low temperatures combined with steam rising from Yubatake under its magical lighting effects—it created such an enchanting atmosphere that both my wife & I were deeply moved. Back at our room later on—we snacked on rice balls while reviewing photos taken earlier over beers before enjoying all three private baths available during this stay thoroughly too! Finally resting comfortably atop plush bedding afterward ensured sound sleep overnight. Breakfast next morning featured healthy vegetable-rich dishes served again within yesterday’s same restaurant setting—a perfect start indeed! The Best Accommodation
It was a wonderful accommodation. There are three private Onsen baths, and you can check their availability in real-time using the tablet device in your room. You can also experience a private Onsen bath with an atmosphere that symbolizes Kusatsu Onsen. The food was exceptional, truly beyond words. After the meal, we enjoyed a magical stroll around the Yubatake area as recommended by the staff. We were able to experience "Kusatsu Yoi Toko" firsthand. Thank you very much!

A First Visit to Kusatsu Onsen at the Dreamy Keir-san
If you're planning a trip to Kusatsu Onsen, staying at Akari is highly recommended. After years of planning, we finally made it this spring. We traveled by car, and when the navigation system was insufficient, a phone call to the accommodation provided precise directions in real-time. The welcome drink experience was unique, with cocktails (including non-alcoholic options) prepared for us—a memorable touch. One highlight of Kusatsu Onsen was the three different types of private open-air baths available. Using an iPad provided in our room, we could check their availability and enjoy them whenever they were free. For us, who have avoided public baths since the pandemic began, having private access to Kusatsu's famous hot springs was a huge plus—and we certainly took advantage of it! Even though all seven rooms were occupied during our stay at this small accommodation, there was always an available bath. The meals were another standout feature—innovative kaiseki cuisine that delighted our senses with its live presentation and exquisite flavors. Breakfast the next morning maintained the same high standard and left us thoroughly satisfied. The room wear provided was incredibly comfortable; however, when I asked if I could purchase one before leaving, I learned that it was a custom-made item for the accommodation and unfortunately sold out. It’s worth noting that there didn’t seem to be a gift shop on-site. It would be wonderful if they considered offering items like room wear or amenities as souvenirs in the future!

The meals were exceptional.
The open-air bath and the room were both exceptional. As someone who enjoys visiting hard-to-book establishments across the whole country, the meals at this Ryokan were incomparable to any Hotel or Ryokan I have visited before. A Japanese cuisine course featuring an abundance of spring ingredients. Just looking at the course menu raised my expectations, and I was convinced from the first chawanmushi dish. I heard that the head chef previously worked for the Hoshino Group. The sake from Gunma was also exquisite, and I had the chance to compare three types of Daiginjo sake while receiving excellent service. There were even rare items not commonly found in restaurants, which was a delightful surprise throughout my stay. Perhaps due to dehydration from soaking in the Onsen or because of the altitude, I felt tipsier than usual; however, being able to rest immediately in my room is one of a Ryokan's true pleasures. Aside from our TV freezing at night (which gave us a laugh), everything was perfect!

Simple and Enjoyable Moments
We enjoyed a relaxing time as a couple. The meals were delightful. The dinner menu only listed a variety of ingredients, leaving the actual dishes as a surprise to discover upon arrival. From the first plate, we could see the creativity in every dish. Pairing it with local Gunma sake added to the experience. The breakfast menu highlighted seasonal flavors and showcased Gunma's charm, offering a different kind of enjoyment compared to dinner. And the Onsen! We indulged in both the private open-air bath in our room and three other baths, each with its own unique atmosphere, multiple times during our stay. The space and amenities (from local Gunma manufacturers) were simple yet thoughtful, and we found the service just right. It seems this accommodation has been open for about five years now. We look forward to seeing it continue as an accommodation that captures and shares memories of Gunma and Kusatsu’s rich heritage.

The three types of Onsen each have unique features and were enjoyable, with the private setting allowing for a relaxing experience. The food was incredibly delicious, and the staff's service was impeccable. The taste surpassed any other accommodation I've stayed at before. It was my first time in Kusatsu, but I definitely want to visit again and use kei's services. It was a delightful trip!

Simply wonderful
I have stayed in Kusatsu several times, but I was surprised to find such a wonderful Hotel. The Room was so spacious and clean that it felt like a waste for just two people. It also had underfloor heating, making it warm. The bath was also great as you could check the availability with a tablet. Perhaps because there are few Rooms, we didn't encounter other guests outside of meals. The food was very elaborate, and both the appearance and taste were excellent. At breakfast, when an umeboshi appeared which I dislike even looking at, I asked for it to be removed and they kindly replaced it with kombu tsukudani; their consideration was appreciated. Since the Hotel is located in Ura-Kusatsu (Kusatsu), you can walk to Yubatake in a short time. My husband also found his favorite Hotel here and he was delighted. Thank you very much.

It was very good.
The meals were very delicious, and I think the concept of local production for local consumption was well utilized. The tableware was also lovely. I was surprised by the hot pot served at breakfast on the second day. It was nice that the chef came to greet us and asked which dish we liked best in the end. It would have been even better if there had been a pairing with sake. Unfortunately, compared to other items, the Japanese tea felt lacking in quality. The bath, of course, was impeccable. The hospitality was excellent as well, and I've already recommended it to four couples to definitely use your services. Please keep up the good work in the future.

Adult Kusatsu Onsen
It was my first time in Kusatsu, and choosing this property was the perfect decision. It's close to Yubatake, making it ideal for an evening stroll. Above all, the food was incredibly delicious, and you could feel the chef's dedication. Despite being in the mountains, the dishes made with carefully selected seasonal ingredients were exquisite. The only disappointment was that although you can check the availability of private onsens on a tablet, the most popular one, AWASE no Yu, was always in use, making it difficult to use. Since our room was on the third floor, by the time we reached the first floor where the onsen is located, it was already occupied. It would be nice if reservations could be made via the tablet. Also, it would be more hygienic if a few hand towels were provided in the washroom. Overall, it was a small luxury, a place where adults can relax and unwind in Kusatsu Onsen.

A bright and comfortable Stays that makes you want to visit again soon.
For the first time, from the preliminary information, I felt a modern atmosphere and had a slight unease, but it was almost completely dispelled by a phone inquiry before my visit. I believe that the impression of a property can greatly change depending on the condition and mentality of the visitor, and this is something that many people have experienced, not just us. Compatibility and timing are important. With gratitude for this stay, I would like to share my impressions of the service, meals, bath, and room. (Service) The natural service and hospitality of the two people at the phone and front desk were wonderful. It wasn't overly anticipatory, nor was it lacking in attentiveness, but rather perfectly balanced. Thanks to them, it was a comfortable stay. Thank you. (Meals) In most course meals, there might be one small ingredient or seasoning that is not to one's liking. This time, there were some ingredients I didn't particularly like, but the way they were prepared made them go down smoothly. At dinner, the first three dishes were particularly noteworthy, and the final dish allowed me to feel the chef's creativity and sense. The colors and taste of the breakfast were also wonderful, especially the deliciousness of the rice was remarkable. Thank you to the restaurant staff, including the chef, for your courteous service. (Bath) Of the three types of private baths with different atmospheres, we used two. The first bath had three baths with different temperatures from the same source, allowing us to choose the one that suited our skin. I took a slightly long bath, feeling as if I was releasing my daily fatigue, and enjoyed a pleasant moment after the bath. The water was indeed the famous Kusatsu hot spring. (Room) Since it was my wife's birthday, we reserved a high-grade room. Although I was a bit puzzled by the lighting adjustments and the height of the chairs I wasn't used to, the atmosphere, spaciousness, and comfort were impeccable. The floor heating was also pleasant, and above all, the bedding was unparalleled, leading to a refreshing awakening after a good night's sleep. The room's open-air bath had excellent water quality, cleanliness, and atmosphere, making it a truly blissful bath time. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy such a wonderful and comfortable space and time. It was a very compatible property for us. We hope to visit again when the seasons change.

A very satisfying Stays
The bath, the quality of the spring water, the atmosphere of the Stays, the hospitality, and the unparalleled high-quality meals all combined to make it the best Property. Personally, the only disappointment was the indoor air conditioning. The unit was installed at a low position in the bedroom, and the direct warm air made it dry and difficult to sleep. That's the only issue. Everything else was simply excellent. I will definitely use it again.

Overall satisfied
The service, room, and bath were all excellent. Perhaps because the number of guests per day is limited, I was able to use all three private baths without stress. The service was generally polite, but the voice was a bit too low and hard to hear. There were no issues with the room or amenities, although I wanted a USB socket, it was within the acceptable range. Since it's behind Kusatsu, it's narrow to enter by car, but there's not much traffic, so it's not a problem. Being in front of Jizo, it's convenient to go to the footbath immediately.

Very wonderful
I planned a trip to Kusatsu and Ikaho Onsen to celebrate my husband's birthday. I chose this property in Kusatsu because it had good reviews. 1. We stayed in a maisonette with an open-air bath, but for a middle-aged couple, going down to the first floor every time we needed to use the toilet was a bit inconvenient. Also, there are three private baths, so we could bathe almost at our desired time and enjoyed all three very much. Especially, the bath with three tubs lined up with different temperatures was very Kusatsu-like and became my favorite. Therefore, I thought I could be very satisfied even if the room didn't have a bath. 2. The cuisine was very satisfying both visually and taste-wise, with a focus on the ingredients. The head chef was also very impressive. The response from the refreshing male staff was also wonderful. 3. The front desk staff, the welcome drink reception, and the staff who sent us off to the bus terminal at departure were all very discreet and courteous, which was great. It became a Stays I would definitely want to stay at again when I visit Kusatsu. Thank you very much.

I was looking for a ...
I was looking for a property where I could enjoy the onsen in Kusatsu. I chose to stay here because there are three wonderful private baths available without reservation, the room has an onsen bath, and the food reviews were good. The food and onsen were as good as expected, but I was a little concerned about the room's issues. As someone mentioned in a review before, there was no upper part of the shower room, but the lower part had black mold all over, which was surprising and disappointing, especially since it wasn't a cheap room. I think it would be noticeable if cleaned, but I don't understand why it hasn't been improved. The wallpaper in the washroom was also peeling off, and I wish it was maintained a bit more. That was the only disappointment. Also, I think it would have been more relaxing if there were more comfortable chairs in the living room.

Stays worth visiting
The room, bath, and facility were wonderful, and especially the meals were very delicious, with a delicate balance of flavors centered around local ingredients and an excellent presentation. Additionally, the selection of alcohol offered was excellent and relatively affordable. If the understanding of taste and flavor is not present, the selection of alcohol would simply consist of local sake or beer, but the variety of alcohol at this property is outstanding, which is a testament to the chef's excellent palate. The bath was, of course, also good, but this is a property worth visiting just for the meals.

It was the most wonderful luxury getaway.
I stayed here with my fiancé for a birthday trip. Once we decided to visit Kusatsu, I researched many Accommodations, and chose Kei because the Reviews were so highly rated. It was my first time staying at an auberge-style Accommodation, and the food was truly outstanding. My fiancé usually can’t handle fish with any strong odor, but everything had no smell at all and was delicious—he was very satisfied. We also heard from the staff that they would rather not serve seafood or rice at all than serve anything of poor quality, and it really showed how much care they put into every dish. I highly recommend the cuisine—you’ll be impressed. The pacing of the meal was perfect as well; you could tell they paid close attention to timing, which I admired. At the end, the chef even came to greet us, and I was moved by such thoughtful hospitality. The Room and baths were also spotless—everything is impeccably cleaned. The concept throughout the property is elegant and makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Even when an Accommodation has an open-air bath, I often don’t use it much because I’m not a morning person—but here every bath was so wonderful that I ended up bathing seven times (laugh). Every bath was lovely, and the Onsen were excellent＾＾ There’s nothing to complain about. It’s a luxury-priced Accommodation, but absolutely worth it. This is a top-tier place I’d want everyone to experience at least once. Price-wise it’s not somewhere I can easily return to right away, but I’m going to save up and come back! Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay.
