    Three Generations Girls' Trip

    I visited Tara Town for the first time in decades to enjoy Takezaki crab and stayed at Crab Goten for the first time. I was satisfied with everything, including the meals, staff service, room, and onsen. The presentation of the meals was beautiful, featuring many specialties from Ariake Sea, and the fresh mandarin orange juice in the morning was delightful. Although I expected slightly larger crabs, overall, the portions were well-balanced. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

    Birthday Trip

    My husband took me on a birthday trip. I had visited once before with a friend before the renovation and wanted to come back. As expected, the room, service, Onsen, and sauna were excellent. I was able to relax and enjoy my time. I definitely want to visit again.

    Could not relax...

    The Onsen experience was disappointing. It didn't feel like an Onsen at all, more like a regular home bath placed outdoors. Additionally, the noise from the neighboring room was very disruptive, making it impossible to relax. The Room was labeled as "sweet," but it didn't feel sweet at all. The meals were average, so it felt more like going out for a regular meal rather than an Onsen getaway. In conclusion, the Onsen was underwhelming, the Room was not relaxing, and the meals were ordinary.

    The best ever!

    Thank you for hosting us on our first trip to Saga. Without knowing much, we assumed the crab at Kanigoten was out-of-season snow crab, but to our surprise, it was Takezaki Crab! The size was impressive, and we were even told there are larger ones available (o_o). The flavor was the richest and most delicious among all the crabs we've ever had. The view from the open-air bath in our Room and from both the 1st-floor and 7th-floor open-air baths offered different yet equally stunning scenery—it was truly amazing! The staff's hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable, allowing us to spend a very happy time. We will definitely visit again in the future. This Ryokan is by far my favorite of all time. Thank you so much!

    Solo Travel.

    I decided to stay here on a whim during an unexpected holiday to relax alone and enjoy delicious food. The meals were tasty with just the right portions, the Room was spacious and comfortable, and I received attentive service that made me feel special, allowing me to recharge at my own pace. Personally, as a sauna enthusiast, the sauna Facility with an ocean view was absolutely perfect.

    We stayed at this onsen accommodation with my spouse and three daughters. Our room was on the first floor, Room 102, while the lobby was on the third floor. Hearing that our room was on the first floor gave me a bad feeling. As expected, upon entering the room, there was a moldy smell. I immediately contacted the front desk but unfortunately, there were no vacant rooms available that day. They assured us they would address it during our meal time. When it was time for dinner, we headed to the dining area. As mentioned in other reviews, seating arrangements were based on reservation order in a large hall with uneven tables—questionable taste for an accommodation costing over 100,000 yen per night at a ryokan. Next came a staff member to explain about the dishes; however, despite news reports of COVID-19 cases rapidly increasing and previous reviews pointing this out as an issue—they explained without wearing a mask? Even though responses from management to similar reviews promised improvements? It’s disappointing to feel like you have to repeatedly leave reviews about such issues for this accommodation to take action seriously.

    For my father's 70th birthday celebration

    We stayed here as a couple last year and had such a wonderful experience that we decided to gift my parents a one-night stay for my father's 70th birthday celebration! On the day, they were treated with a special birthday cake and even got to wear the traditional celebratory attire. The staff provided exceptional hospitality, and we are truly grateful. My parents were absolutely delighted with their stay. We look forward to visiting again in the future!

    All rooms are suite ...

    All rooms are suite rooms, which made the Hotel very appealing and raised my expectations. However, perhaps because I expected too much, there were some disappointing aspects. One issue was the open-air bath on the top floor. The washing area is small, with space for only two people. Since others were waiting behind me, I couldn't take my time to wash up. The open-air bath itself was also small, and birds flying nearby made me uneasy about potential droppings falling in—this was unpleasant. Another issue was the semi-open-air bath attached to the Room. I thought it would be wonderful to have access to an open-air bath anytime; however, directly below our Room was what seemed like a viewing deck accessible from the front desk—it offered no privacy at all for bathing naked. Although curtains were provided for privacy, they were dirty with what appeared to be mold or bird droppings and felt unpleasant to touch. Additionally, many dead insects were in the bathwater with no way of cleaning them out unless staff assistance was requested—a cumbersome process that ultimately led us not to use it at all. On a positive note, all staff members were very polite and kind. However, considering cleanliness standards relative to its price point, I found this Hotel less satisfying than expected overall.

    Four-Generation Trip

    It was a four-generation trip with my 84-year-old mother, myself (54), my 31-year-old daughter, and my 1-year-and-3-month-old grandchild. Since the grandchild is still very young, we made several requests in advance regarding dinner times and other arrangements, and the staff's polite and kind responses were truly appreciated. The food was absolutely delicious, featuring an abundance of fresh seafood, mountain delicacies, and locally sourced ingredients—a perfect culinary experience. The bath offered a breathtaking view of Ariake Sea. On the terrace of the open-air bath, there were chairs to relax on while wearing clean gowns provided by the accommodation—it was such a peaceful moment! This was my first time experiencing such thoughtful hospitality; it truly reflected their dedication to service. It’s an accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Highly Satisfied

    The owner of this accommodation truly understands saunas. The cold plunge pool is especially outstanding. Even in the rain, diving in while gazing at Ariake Bay was incredibly refreshing. With over 50 years of sauna experience, I may not fully grasp the modern concept of "totonou," but I visit saunas simply to enjoy the cold plunge pools. This one ranks in my top 5!

    A little more hospitality would be appreciated.

    The Facility was thoughtfully designed and impressive, but the dining seat we were guided to (near the entrance and too dark to see the food well) was disappointing. While the restaurant staff were earnest, their operations could be improved, which left us feeling let down and unable to fully enjoy our trip.

    Looking forward to enjoying the sauna.

    We stayed here on the second night of our Kyushu trip. The old building has been beautifully renovated, and the Onsen & sauna facility is newly built as a separate structure, making it very clean and modern. The staff are relatively young but well-trained, always serving with a smile, which left a very positive impression. However, there were some disappointing points: - During dinner, we were encouraged to upgrade to larger-sized crab for an additional fee of 2,200 yen per crab. Considering we paid over 100,000 yen per night, it was unexpected to be charged extra for this. Having checked the price of crabs at roadside stations along the way made this even more disappointing. Additionally, before the crab dish came grilled jumbo shrimp and mantis shrimp tempura in succession—too many shellfish dishes made it feel repetitive. - The sauna facility is beautiful and not crowded—a fantastic experience overall—but temperature control was lacking. The second floor was too hot and dry while the first-floor sauna was too cool to even break a sweat. It felt like they simply built an impressive facility without proper management in place for the current sauna trend. Since Saga Prefecture also has renowned sauna facilities like Mifuneyama Rakuen nearby, I hope they can enhance their already wonderful facility further to match such standards.

    Hospitality is exceptional, but

    Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the explanation from the staff about the freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning was delightful. However, as feedback, we noticed that the men's yukata had a strong odor of body oils, often referred to as aging-related smell. There are detergents available to eliminate such odors, or perhaps it might be due to being stored for a long time—while it may not smell immediately after washing, it can develop over time. Please take care when selecting them. It would be a shame for such wonderful cuisine and hospitality to be overshadowed by this issue. While some guests may not notice this (e.g., husbands), others (e.g., wives) might be more sensitive to it, so please pay attention. Despite these comments, overall we rate our experience as 5 out of 5. Thank you very much!

    The Takezaki crab wa...

    The Takezaki crab was incredibly large and truly delicious. Of course, the other dishes were also satisfying. The service during meals was very kind and impressive.

    Taira's Takezaki Crab

    The view from the room is absolutely stunning. In front is the Ariake Sea, and beyond that rises Mount Unzen Fugendake, offering a majestic scenery that cleanses the soul. Dinner is a Takezaki Crab Kaiseki at Kani Goten. The staff prepares all the crab to make it easy to eat. As a specialty, it was truly delicious. Being right by the sea, the sashimi was also fresh. The staff in charge of our guest room was very kind; when I spilled coffee on my pants during our trip and mentioned it, they kindly washed them for me and had them ready by after dinner. I was very impressed with how well information was shared among the staff members as well. I definitely think this is a property I'd like to stay at again.

    The Takezaki crab was delicious.＾＾

    In January, our family of four stayed with our eldest daughter, who returned home from Tokyo. We checked in while enjoying a welcome pudding and were guided to our room. This time, we chose the Executive Sky Suite, which we had wanted to stay in for a while. There was a large sofa where the whole family could relax while gazing at the sea, and the sea could also be seen from the washroom. The open-air onsen bath was very pleasant. We enjoyed the onsen three times, including the panoramic bath and two large baths. The saunas were different from each other, which was fun. For dinner, we chose a course with Takezaki crab and Saga beef. The Takezaki crab and Saga beef were, of course, delicious, but the other dishes were also very tasty. We were grateful that the attendant peeled the crab to make it easier to eat. Breakfast was a delicious Japanese meal. There was a machine to squeeze orange juice, and it was so delicious that we had seconds. Check-out was at 11 a.m., so it was a leisurely experience. Next time, we would like to stay in a different type of room in another season. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Tara-dake Onsen Kani Goten

    Although we arrived late, we were warmly welcomed and given a thorough tour. We enjoyed a thoughtfully prepared dinner and were even celebrated for a January birthday. The open-air bath was comfortable, and we discussed with our companion that we would definitely like to visit again.

    It's wonderful.

    This is my second time from Tokyo. This time, I requested a large female crab with roe, and it was so large and delicious that I had never seen such a crab before. We are a group that loves crabs and travels around eating various crabs in Singapore, Shanghai, and America, but it was as delicious as any of those places. The room was clean, and the open-air bath that you can enjoy in the room was wonderful, making it one of the ryokans I want to visit again.

    Disappointing dinner

    The design of the Hotel is excellent, overall very comfortable, and I am very satisfied with the Reservation and the Onsen. The reception waiter (BAMBI) is friendly and chatty. However, regarding the meal, I have negative comments. I chose this Hotel looking forward to the dinner (crab). I found that the crab on the isolated table with the same menu was very hot and still hot (steamed and hot). However, one of ours was clearly much thinner. And it was cold. Even with a small feeling, it is the defrosting method. Frozen. My wife was disappointed.

    Good Stays

    If you consider travel as part of the journey, this property is worth visiting. Upgrading the standard course with a 2,000 yen bill makes the dinner quite excellent! Crab is the main dish, but the others were also good. The room is a facility that matches the price. The Sekkisei and hairdryer are good. The temperature of the open-air bath in the room is also good. There are many Stays across the whole country, so when asked if I would like to come again, it's a bit uncertain, but experiencing it once is worthwhile. The only disappointment was breakfast. The temperature of the rice, the miso soup If there were some ingenuity, like using an earthen pot, making crab miso soup, or grilling fish... Rather than increasing the variety of breakfast side dishes, focusing on the ingredients would significantly increase satisfaction. It's a good property, so it was disappointing. But it was a good property.
