Despite its high overall rating in Saga Prefecture...

I’d heard Takezaki crab is famous, but… They advertise dining while enjoying an ocean view of the Ariake Sea, yet when we were shown to dinner, we were seated by a lower wall in an area where staff were rushing around. We stayed in a suite Room—so why were we made to dine in such an unpleasant spot? It was extremely frustrating. And when I asked about the breakfast venue, I was told it’s first-come, first-served. If so, I wanted to be told that from the beginning. I requested the same table for both dinner and breakfast, but considering the price and the Hotel’s response, nothing matched up at all. As for the “famous” Takezaki crab—it wasn’t particularly delicious either. Only two bottles of water were provided in the Room refrigerator. They said it’s available in the lounge… but many people won’t go out of their way just for that. This system is not good at all. At checkout as well, I was waiting in line at the counter to pay; when I headed to my car first to load our luggage, staff were right in front of me but didn’t even try to help with my bags—just stood there doing nothing. I wondered what they were even standing there for… Whether restaurant staff or banquet staff, they were all consistently inattentive and unhelpful. I will never go again. I’ve stayed at dozens of Hotels, but it seems there are still Accommodations like this with staff like this even today… disappointing.

A Hotel I’d Like to Visit Again

This is a very satisfying Hotel.\nThe Facility feels clean, and the Room and bath were also spotless.\nThe staff were courteous and left a great impression.\nAlthough we arrived later than planned, they kindly accommodated changes such as adjusting our meal time, for which we are very grateful.\nNeedless to say, the meals were carefully prepared dish by dish, and everything was delicious.\nBeing able to compare the taste of male and female crab was especially enjoyable, as we could really notice the difference.\nSince we stayed in a detached room, we couldn’t see the sea from our Room, so next time I’d like to stay in a Room with an ocean view.

Our 3-year-old child was absolutely delighted.

We stayed as a family of three. It was a villa-style Room, and our child was thrilled and had a great time. The meals were delicious, and above all, we were very satisfied with the excellent service from the staff. We used the in-room bath as well as the baths on the 1st and 2nd floors of the separate building. The separate building also has a sauna, so we enjoyed both. As noted in the guidelines, it’s an open space, so those who are concerned may want to be mindful—but we really enjoyed it!

The Best Hotel Surrounded by the Ariake Sea

It felt as if we were embraced by the Ariake Sea. I was truly moved to be able to see such a quiet and beautiful sea. The staff (especially those at the restaurant) were also wonderful and treated us with great care. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals as well, including fresh sashimi and crab delivered by local fishermen. But there was something more than that. I felt I could sense something you would never experience in city life, surrounded by material things. When I visit Saga again, I would definitely like to stay here. Thank you very much.

    Not good.

I booked the Luxury Suite on May 23 (about JPY 130,000), but on the day there were a large number of stink bugs in the open-air bath, making it unusable. The manager said that at this time of year stink bugs appear with a probability of once every 2–3 days, and guests may not be able to use the open-air bath. They also said that Accommodation rates are discounted during this season, but aren’t prices actually higher at this time? If you claim it’s discounted, you should clearly announce in advance: “Because stink bugs may appear, we offer lower rates—thank you for your understanding.” As it stands, guests who can use the open-air bath and guests who cannot pay the same price. If you know this can happen, you should take proper measures. Lastly, when I asked the manager how they would feel if they were in my position, they replied, “I wouldn’t like it.” For those planning to visit during this season: you may get a cheaper rate, but be prepared for stink bugs. I understand now—and I will never go again.

My crab-loving wife was very satisfied.

A long-awaited trip with my wife. While choosing the Nagasaki area, we found and made a Reservation at Kani Goten, which serves her favorite crab. Just as we hoped, the Takezaki crab was outstanding, and every other dish was delicious—we were completely satisfied. Above all, we were deeply touched to receive a warm handwritten message board with photos from the staff. The Room was thoughtfully designed in both interior and Facility, making our stay very comfortable. We would love to stay again.

Stunning views, an Onsen, and delicious food—everything was excellent!

Overall, we were mostly satisfied, as the title suggests. We always choose an Accommodation with beds (a Room) to avoid putting strain on our legs and back. The Room was spacious, and the open-air bath with a view of Mt. Unzen was wonderful; however, the “Japanese-style bed” was essentially a futon, and getting in and out of it at bedtime was a bit difficult for older guests. Since the Room is large enough, wouldn’t it have been better to place two standard beds instead?

    The taste in the Hot...

The taste in the Hotel’s furnishings is wonderful, with attention to detail everywhere, which left a great impression. I stayed in the separate “Asian” annex in a Room with futons laid on the floor, but it wasn’t very comfortable to sleep. The floor inside the Room was slippery and I hurt myself. I chose the best dining course, and the sashimi was delicious. Since it’s called “Kani Goten,” I expected great crab, but it was underwhelming—perhaps due to how it was boiled or the season. Also, because the heat was too low, the charcoal-grilled items were left half-cooked; just that took an hour, and in the end I couldn’t eat them. It was disappointing that the meal fell short despite having many staff members who provide excellent hospitality.

    I was disappointed.

With such high Review ratings and a top ranking among popular Accommodations in Saga Prefecture, I had high expectations, but it felt quite different from what I anticipated. I understand Reviews vary by person, but I don’t think this Accommodation was worth the price. In the Room, noise from upstairs could be heard, and every time I used the in-room bath there was a loud motor-like sound coming from somewhere in the Room. The soundproofing is inadequate. The TV also displayed some confusing split-screen view; rather than that, I think it would be better to add another TV in the bedroom. As for the in-room bath, some women may find it difficult to use because they may worry about being seen from the terrace on the floor below. Drainage at the washing area was also terrible—the water wouldn’t drain and just kept pooling. I was looking forward to the lounge, but there were few options, the sitting room was small, and even the sparkling wine(?) tasted flat. It wasn’t good. I don’t understand why there is a time limit. Both bathing areas—the scenic-view bath and what seems to be a separate large public bath—were cramped overall: changing area, washing area, and bathtub were all small. Given that, I question offering day-use Onsen as well. At check-in time, shouldn’t these areas normally be for overnight guests only? The dining venue is poorly designed too—only seats by the windows have a view. It seems seating is assigned in Reservation order, but if you book a good Room and still end up seated toward the back, it feels pointless. If anything it would make sense if those seats were on a raised level—but they’re actually one step lower. The food was delicious; however, one item shown in photos of breakfast wasn’t included. That’s not just a “change.” It’s disappointing because all of the staff were very kind. I could tell care had been put into each individual item, but more than that, I feel money should first be invested into improving Facilities and service. At least we had good weather—that was some relief; if it had rained too, it would have been awful. Since it was during Golden Week (GW), maybe that explains the price—but I’d like them to charge that amount only after becoming an Accommodation worthy of it.

    Hatsutakezaki Crab

Our family of four visited Saga for the first time and tried Takezaki crab for the first time. The staff were very kind, which we really appreciated. Because the washing area at the 7th-floor panoramic bath was outdoors, it was cold—especially since we went at night. We were also a little disappointed that the panoramic bath was shallow. Other than that, everything was wonderful.

    Junior Suite Stay

This was a repeat stay, and once again we enjoyed delicious Takezaki crab. The sashimi selection was also very satisfying, with four kinds of white fish including flathead. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and it was a wonderful open-air bath with an ocean view. We would like to come again next year to eat Takezaki crab.

Looking forward to enjoying Takezaki crab

I visited for the first time looking forward to Takezaki crab. The Room was clean, and I had a comfortable stay. However, it was disappointing that I couldn’t enjoy my meal while taking in the view. The food was delicious, but I also felt it might have been nicer if the tableware reflected Saga—such as Arita ware.

    This is my second stay.

The delicious meals and attentive service made for a wonderful stay. The Room bath has glass walls and is very lovely, but I wished there were blinds or something similar, so I rated it 4 stars. Both the Room and the food let me enjoy an extraordinary getaway. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

Upon entering the Accommodation, we were welcomed by a lobby with a panoramic view of the Ariake Sea right in front of us. The tasteful interior touches throughout impressed us from the very start. The Room has been renovated and feels spotless, and the fresh scent of tatami fills the space, making it truly relaxing. As for the Onsen, there are three options including one in the Room; both the views and water quality were excellent, so we visited multiple times. The meals were outstanding—not only crab, but also a wide variety of locally sourced ingredients thoughtfully prepared so you won’t tire of crab alone. The portion size was just right for women; men may want to add a meat dish. Personally, the welcome-service pudding was an underrated MVP. Above all, every staff member was exceptionally kind and pleasant, and we would love to stay again.

A Hotel That Exceeds Expectations in Every Way

I’d heard that acquaintances and YouTubers had visited, and I’d admired this place for a long time—so I was thrilled to finally be able to stay here. What impressed us most was not only the Onsen with a panoramic view of the Ariake Sea, but also the staff’s heartfelt service and hospitality, which made us feel warmly welcomed throughout our stay. We also thoroughly enjoyed our favorite Takezaki crab and many delicious local ingredients from Tara Town, and we were completely satisfied. We would love to stay again.

    First stay since the renovation

We stayed to enjoy Takezaki crab after the new sauna opened. My husband was looking forward to the sauna, but it felt small, and once there were about five people it was hard to relax. It was also disappointing that there wasn’t a place to sit and use the hair dryer comfortably. It would be better if there were a separate powder room. The crab left us completely full, with a flavor different from snow crab on the Sea of Japan side. As expected, Ariake nori is delicious—the grilled nori at breakfast was especially good. The lounge offers wine, but it’s only available from 19:00, so it wasn’t ideal as an after-dinner nightcap. We stayed in a Junior Suite, and it was also disappointing that there were no post-bath gowns. The views from the Room and restaurant were excellent.

    Enjoy All-You-Can Crab

I’d been interested in this place for a while through social media and had wanted to stay here at least once. It rained on the day, but the indoor bath and sauna were incredibly relaxing. I also appreciated having cold water set out before the sauna. We stayed in a detached suite with an open-air bath, and the Room interior was lovely. The large bed was very comfortable, and we were able to rest well. Since my boyfriend’s birthday was coming up, I hoped it would be a nice way to celebrate—and during dinner they surprised us with a birthday cake. We truly appreciated their thoughtful hospitality. We also upgraded one crab portion as we’d been hoping to try it, and it was delicious! We’d love to visit again.

Both dinner and breakfast feature excellent, high-quality menus.

This was my second stay. I stayed again recently because my previous visit was wonderful. The open-air bath in the Room under the starry sky was amazing. Above all, I truly appreciate the attentive care and consideration shown by the staff. Breakfast featured a refined menu with many thoughtful touches, and I was impressed. I sincerely hope to stay again. Thank you very much.

    The staff were very ...

The staff were very attentive, the Room was clean, and my wife was extremely satisfied with the meals and everything else. This has become one of the Ryokan we would like to visit again. The view from the Room was magnificent—the tidal flats with Mt. Unzen in the background, changing with the tides—and we could also watch winter seabirds (ducks?) going about their day. Next time, I’d like to take a walk along the coast. One point: I entered the private bath in a detached building with a sauna about 20 minutes before closing time, but it seemed that cleanup had already started on the women’s side, and it looked like the sauna power had been turned off, so I couldn’t enjoy it, which was disappointing. Still, I think this Accommodation would receive high ratings even if you simply let nature speak for itself.

Thoughtful touches that make you feel welcome

We stayed here for my husband’s birthday trip—he loves crab. The portion sizes were just right, and we enjoyed local ingredients. The temperature control of the open-air bath in the Room was also good. It would be nice if there were loungewear and slippers.

    Savor delicious crab.

Starting with a variety of appetizers, I enjoyed a whole richly flavored Takezaki crab and even Saga rice. The sake was also excellent. I drank wine in the Room and relaxed. I had a wonderful day.

We had a relaxing, unhurried stay.

All ingredients are locally sourced, and everything—starting with Takezaki crab—was outstanding! With the staff’s attentive yet unobtrusive hospitality, spending time gazing out over the calm Ariake Sea made me forget the rush of everyday life completely. Highly recommended!

    I stayed at this acc...

I stayed at this accommodation during my trip to Saga. Overall, it was a satisfying stay, but there were some clear highlights and areas for improvement. First, the exceptional aspect was the staff's hospitality. The teamwork among the staff was outstanding, and their service was filled with warmth. I especially appreciated the staff member who helped prepare the Takezaki crab during dinner; their attentiveness left a great impression. Regarding meals, breakfast was highly satisfying. The thick salmon and Takezaki crab miso soup were particularly exquisite. Personally, I found this morning's miso soup more impressive than the clear soup served at dinner. The crab served at dinner was delicious as well; however, offering options like "grilled" or "oni-gawara grilled" in addition to "steamed" would enhance satisfaction further. Additionally, serving tempura after eating crab when one is nearly full felt a bit heavy and made it difficult to fully enjoy its flavor—reconsidering the order of dishes might improve this experience. The only disappointment was the lounge area. Considering the price range of this accommodation, I felt that its offerings did not match expectations. The main building’s lounge felt inconvenient both in terms of timing and content availability, while accessing the annex lounge (which offers ice cream and pudding) from the main building required too much effort due to its distance. Given how excellent your staff is, improving both hardware aspects and service structure could make this an even more remarkable accommodation!

Thanks to the wonderful Room and the hospitality of the amazing staff, I was able to spend a truly happy time. It had been a while since I enjoyed such a relaxing moment, and it was refreshing. I especially enjoyed talking with the staff during meals and felt warm inside from their lovely messages. The Halloween event coincided with my stay, adding to the fun. It was a Ryokan that made me think, "I definitely want to come back!" Thank you very much!
