    This is the best accommodation!

    This was my third visit. This time, we had dinner at the teppanyaki restaurant. The chef’s clear explanations and perfect cooking were truly enjoyable. The Room attendant who always takes care of us, and the bar staff as well, were familiar faces and created a relaxing atmosphere where we could feel at ease. The Room was also very comfortable. We also had soba for lunch on the day we arrived—and it’s actually highly recommended! It’s the perfect portion when you’re planning to enjoy a big dinner, and it was delicious. We’re looking forward to visiting again.

    My expectations may have been too high.

    Because it was known as an Accommodation that’s hard to get a Reservation for, I made a Reservation. I think my expectations were simply too high. The Onsen was wonderful—I could have stayed in both the large public bath and the indoor bath forever. The property was very quiet, with only about 20 rooms, so I rarely ran into other guests and was able to relax. However, there were a few service issues: the yukata size didn’t fit (it was changed immediately after I contacted them, but at other luxury Accommodations they usually notice at check-in and offer a different size), dinner took quite a while to be served, and many services required additional fees.

    The bath is amazing.

    This was my first stay at Hakone Ginyu. The baths are quite small, but they were wonderful. Soaking slowly in the hot water helped wash away the fatigue of traveling. And all the staff members’ smiles were truly pleasant. I filled out the guest questionnaire that was in the Room and handed it to a staff member at check-out; the young proprietress reviewed it right away and said they would improve any requested points, so I left feeling very satisfied. I would like to stay again. One thing I forgot to write in the questionnaire: for teppanyaki, I would be happy if there were even a small serving of salad. Teppanyaki is served face-to-face with the chef, and while an ideal level of interaction is hard to strike, I’d appreciate a bit more space—if spoken to too much, it’s difficult to enjoy conversation with my companion. Also, due to unexpectedly heavy snow, my suitcase got soaked; it would be perfect if there were thoughtful help such as wiping it down.

    We were looking forw...

    We were looking forward to our first accommodation in 10 years as a family of four. Perhaps due to the busy New Year season, it was crowded, and there were no available seats on the sofa during check-in, which was disappointing. When we were shown to our room and tried to relax, we noticed that there were only two cushions at the low table in the room where futons are laid out—this felt insufficient. The sizes of the yukata and samue provided did not fit us, so we requested an exchange. However, even the replacements brought to us had mismatched sizes; perhaps I didn’t communicate clearly enough. The refrigerator outside had water and soda prepared for each person, but it would have been nice if complimentary water or coffee was available. Maybe I should have just drunk water from the tap in the kitchenette area—but I also wished for some ice. During meals, having tea served alongside was a nice touch; however, by the time we drank it, it had already cooled down significantly—this was a bit disappointing as well. At checkout time too, there seemed to be a shortage of sofas again—we were directed to seats on an outdoor terrace instead, which surprised us. As with our previous visit years ago, the large public bath remained spacious and very pleasant—it felt great! However, given how high our expectations were this time around overall left us feeling somewhat disappointed.

    I have stayed at var...

    I have stayed at various accommodations before, but to be honest, this one did not live up to its reputation. I don't understand why it has such high ratings and is difficult to secure a reservation. First of all, the meals. The quality of the sashimi was mediocre, and the steak was cold with solidified fat. This might be because it was delivered to the room, but if they cannot serve food properly this way, they should consider serving meals in a dining area. The bath facilities included an outdoor bath without an indoor option during certain times. In cold seasons, going straight into an outdoor bath without warming up indoors can be quite uncomfortable. The number of hair dryers in the changing room was also insufficient. Luckily, I could use one immediately as there was only one other person present at that time; however, during busy hours it would likely be difficult to use them. The refrigerator outside the room had a sign saying "Feel free to drink," so I expected at least beer inside. However, there were only bottled water and small sodas available. By morning, for some reason, these had frozen and caused bottles to crack. To top it off, we stayed in a maisonette-style room where the entire accommodation had a Bali-inspired dim atmosphere. A family member who accompanied me missed a step on the stairs and got injured due to poor lighting conditions. Although it wasn’t serious like a fracture or worse—thankfully—it could have been critical for elderly guests. We informed staff about this incident. Upon departure, I expected at least some words of apology or concern from either the landlady or someone responsible (though our assigned attendant did express concern), but there were none. While staff service attitude was decent (not exceptionally better than other accommodations but just average), there were no other positive points worth mentioning overall—I felt disappointed honestly. Considering that they charge relatively high prices compared with what is offered here in terms of service quality—it doesn’t feel worth it at all compared with all-inclusive accommodations which offer much better value for money.

    The autumn leaves were beautiful. Everything was completely satisfying.

    As a returning guest, I stayed in the "Katsura" Room on the first floor this time. The open-air jacuzzi bath with a view of autumn leaves was absolutely amazing. The meals were even more elaborate and delicious than usual, and the beautifully crafted tableware was impressive as always. The staff member in charge provided kind and attentive service, offering exceptional hospitality. The birthday surprise was wonderful as well!

    Blissful Accommodation!

    I managed to secure a reservation during the busy autumn foliage season. The staff who assisted me during my previous stay even came out to greet me! Such hospitality made me very happy. The room, though the most affordable option, was excellent. Personally, I found it even better than the maisonette-type room I stayed in last time! The meals were absolutely perfect. The seasoned rice was delicious, but unfortunately, I couldn't finish it—what a shame... The bar staff were also wonderful. I will definitely visit again!

    Great value for money and a great view, but it’s disappointing that the bathroom fixtures are showing signs of wear.

    Rather than “top-tier hospitality,” the service felt comforting—like coming home—and I could see why it’s so popular. That said, even for inbound guests, I wish they wouldn’t assign non-native Japanese speakers as in-room attendants at a Ryokan that prides itself on hospitality. Although their Japanese was fluent, it took extra mental effort to follow the explanations and guidance around the property and in the Room. Cleaning was thorough down to every corner, but perhaps due to age, the plumbing is a weak point. The bathroom sink in the Room clogged up quickly even with simple toothbrushing, and the shower pressure was disappointing—especially in colder seasons when washing your body. I reserved a maisonette-type Room, but surprisingly, the lock on the 4th-floor side wasn’t secured… Overall, it felt less profit-driven and more like an owner’s passion project; I was impressed by many details such as the furnishings and the large public bath. Even the tree tucked into a corner of the balcony was well cared for, and there was nothing unpleasant about cleanliness at all. The view was spectacular; with appropriately attentive service and standard meals (perhaps because they were served in-room), it felt fair for the price. The newly opened teppanyaki—Japanese-style teppanyaki—was truly enjoyable, and the staff’s hospitality there was excellent. At check-in there was some waiting time despite it not being crowded, which was disappointing after arriving in a hurry. This likely isn’t due to understaffing but rather part of their approach. If you pay 1.5 times more you can probably find an even better Accommodation, but considering everything overall this is very good value for money. If they improve the plumbing areas, I’d definitely like to return again.

    Surprise for an Anniversary Stay

    This was my third stay, and once again, I was impressed by the high quality of the guest rooms, Onsen, and meals. It reaffirmed that this is an excellent accommodation. I had informed them in advance about a special anniversary, and they prepared a surprise gesture that deeply moved me. I also appreciated that they provided a small portion of rice for our preschooler during the meal. However, I rated "customer service" 4 stars because the attendant serving our meal had a slightly musty smell, which was unfortunate.

    It was very relaxing.

    This was my second visit, and based on the record of my previous stay, I received attentive service and felt very relaxed. I tried the teppanyaki for the first time this time, and it was delicious. However, since alcohol is not available on the teppanyaki floor and is served from the lounge, it can be a bit challenging to match your drink with your food. I recommend ordering in advance to ensure better timing.

    Snow Monkey

    It was the only available maisonette. I enjoyed the clouds climbing over the Hakone mountain range and the chorus of insects while relaxing in the private onsen in my room. Suddenly, I heard a mechanical sound. Shortly after, two small cabin cars, like those used on golf courses, slowly passed by in front of my open-air bath. Upon investigation, I found out they connected a parking lot to an accommodation at the bottom of a valley at a neighboring facility. At first, it felt like enjoying a diorama train ride through Hakone's mountain range. However, as they frequently passed by right in front of me, it started to feel more like an everyday train and became bothersome. Although some windows were covered with masking sheets for privacy, there were visible sections left uncovered—perhaps for safety reasons—allowing passengers' faces to be clearly seen at times. While convincing myself that they couldn't see me from their side, I eventually stopped using my room's open-air bath. I wondered if passengers might view me as one of those famous snow monkeys bathing in hot springs from their perspective? Perhaps this is part of what makes traditional Japanese onsen towns charmingly unique. If this PRIVATE CABLE CAR is meant to cross boundaries into secluded areas like mine, then perhaps my presence within this open-air bath belongs to worldly matters after all—a thought that left me feeling both resigned and somewhat accepting as part of Hakone’s mountain charm.

    I was moved by the surprise! It's a wonderful accommodation!

    This was my third visit. Everything at Ginyu, including the onsen, meals, room, and customer service, is exceptional! What touched me the most this time was that I mentioned during the reservation that we were celebrating my parents' birthdays. On the day of our stay, during dessert at dinner, they surprised us with a celebration! Knowing that the staff prepared this made me so grateful I almost cried. My parents were overjoyed and said it was their first time receiving such a celebration. Thank you so much! Also, thank you for accommodating food allergies again this time. I truly appreciate your efforts and enjoyed every bite of the delicious meal. I love Ginyu's Japanese-style rooms and onsen; they are so relaxing that I lost count of how many times I soaked in the bath. The onsen here makes my skin smooth and silky every time. The weather was great with stunning views; it felt like summer as we spent a very relaxing time here. Thank you once again for your warm smiles and attentive service throughout our stay. I'll definitely come back again!

    I finally managed to...

    I finally managed to complete the Reservation after being on the waiting list. I had used this place 10 years ago and always wanted to visit again, but it was often fully booked. The breathtaking view from the terrace was truly impressive. The food was delicious, and the bath was exceptional.

    Excellent Accommodation

    I stayed for one night during the Obon holiday. It was my first time at this accommodation, and it turned out to be a wonderful day, including the excellent service. The newly opened teppanyaki was especially delicious, and I was impressed by the hospitality of all the staff. Next time, I would like to stay in a different room.

    Lucky Accommodation Reservation

    I never thought I could secure an accommodation reservation at Hakone Ginyu due to my schedule. However, unexpectedly, I found some free time for tomorrow and decided to search for accommodations on IKYU.com, half-expecting it to be impossible. To my surprise, there was a reservation available for just tomorrow—perhaps due to a cancellation—and I proceeded with the reservation page in disbelief. Now the accommodation is booked; I feel incredibly lucky. The room I was able to choose was the wonderful "Seiun." I've driven through Hakone many times and stayed at various accommodations, but this is my first time enjoying a direct view of the Hakone mountain range right in front of me. Now I truly understand why it's so difficult to secure an accommodation reservation at Hakone Ginyu throughout all seasons. Spring, summer, autumn, winter—early spring, early summer, late autumn or midwinter—the scenery is beautiful whether sunny or rainy; yesterday and today are different; no two days are ever alike here. It's a place that makes you want to return again and again. The hospitality inside was also very attentive and courteous—it was excellent overall. I don't know when I'll be able to make another accommodation reservation here next time but would feel fortunate if I'm able to book again someday!

    Relaxing Accommodation

    I was able to stay on my planned date through the waiting list. As per the reviews, it was my first time, but I was very satisfied. The alcohol was expensive, and I upgraded the meal as recommended—choosing filet for the meat and sakura shrimp rice—so the price ended up being higher than expected. However, everything was so delicious that it felt worth it. The room service dining experience was excellent; the staff provided just the right level of service and delivered dishes at perfect timing, allowing us to enjoy without any waiting. The portions were generous enough that we finished everything and felt pleasantly full. Since our room was on the first floor, we enjoyed a spacious open-air bath multiple times. However, one downside was that the wooden flooring in the indoor bath seemed quite worn out—it wobbled and felt unstable as if it might break soon. It might be time for a replacement? In the evening, we could hear cicadas chirping (higurashi), while in the morning there were other cicadas (minminzemi). On our terrace outside, mosquitoes were flying around—a reminder of late summer's atmosphere. Although there wasn’t much of a view from our room itself, this was compensated by using an open-air bath on the 5th floor with no one else around—I could relax alone peacefully. At checkout close to 11:00 AM sharp when things got busy—it took some time retrieving cars or luggage arrangements like bringing carry-on bags directly into vehicles—but unfortunately misplaced mine temporarily requiring several attempts before finally resolving after four tries involving even apologies personally offered by management/hostess herself suggesting perhaps avoiding such handling altogether during peak hours instead? Overall though despite minor hiccups thoroughly enjoyed stay planning next visit aiming higher-floor accommodations!

    Summer Wandering and Museum Tours

    We often visit Hakone, and this time we managed to secure a reservation at "Ginyu." Despite the summer heat, my spouse and I visited together. After viewing the Van Gogh-themed exhibition at the Pola Museum of Art, we arrived just after 2 PM. We checked in while enjoying the lush green view of the mountains across from us, sipped on a welcome drink while watching tropical fish gracefully swim in an aquarium, and felt content thinking, "We finally made it to Ginyu!" The greenery visible from our room's bath and the exclusive view from the large communal bath were truly soothing experiences. Above all else, what impressed us most was the series of exquisite dishes served in our room. Not only were they delicious, but their presentation was also surprising—like dishes served with visible flames or beautifully arranged appetizers that left us amazed. From tilefish steamed in an earthenware pot to grilled grouper with aromatic spices and more—the latter half of dinner continued to delight us with one delicious dish after another. The meal concluded with a special order: rice cooked with sakura shrimp in a clay pot—it even had crispy bits that added extra flavor! We ended dinner feeling completely satisfied. Breakfast was served by the same staff member who attended to us during dinner. Even as we departed before 11 AM, they saw us off warmly—thank you for your attentive service until our very last moment there. Incidentally, my wife accidentally left her ring on the bathroom sink when we were leaving; however, it was promptly returned just before our departure so that we could head off safely to our next destination at Glass Forest Museum without worry—thank you so much for your kindness! One minor disappointment was that the flooring around our room's bath showed significant wear and tear—it slightly detracted from an otherwise wonderful experience.

    It was a nice accommodation, but

    Upon arrival, we were immediately approached with sales pitches for additional dinner menu options and spa services, which felt a bit off-putting. Additionally, it was disappointing to find that items we had mentioned as dislikes during a prior phone call were still included in the meal. While the Onsen and scenery were fantastic, the quality of service did not seem to match the price.

    Excellent attention to detail!

    We stayed to celebrate my daughter's birthday. From check-in to check-out, it was a wonderful accommodation. The surprise they arranged for my daughter's birthday is something we will never forget! The room felt a bit small for five people, so next time we would like to stay in a larger room!

    An accommodation worth visiting again.

    I found an available room the day before and made a reservation. When I mentioned that it was also for my mother's birthday, they planned a heartfelt surprise after dinner, offering hospitality unlike any other accommodation. My family and I are truly grateful. Overall, I felt that this cost performance is achieved through various efforts. While some accommodations may incur costs for providing excessive services due to their philosophies, here you can receive just the right amount of service with excellent cost performance. The room's spaciousness, the temperature of the baths including the large public bath, the delicious meals, the staff's hospitality, and above all, the soothing scenery—everything was just perfect. Although it's close enough for a day trip from where we live, this is an accommodation we would love to visit again and again without hesitation.

    An Accommodation that’s still hard to book

    In early July, I was able to make a Reservation through IKYU and stay at Ginyu with a long-time friend for the first time in a while. I have visited Ginyu many times since it first opened, and its consistently excellent service and hospitality make it one of the few Accommodations I truly want to return to. Thank you to all the staff. I look forward to visiting again.

    The room design, bat...

    The room design, bath, and view were excellent. The food was average, possibly due to the limitations of in-room dining. It might feel more luxurious if the beverages in the refrigerator were slightly marked up but offered for free. At the bar, there were times when no staff was present, which made me wonder if it was due to cost-cutting on staffing.

    Truly breathtaking views!

    This was my first visit. The weather changed rapidly, allowing me to enjoy various landscapes. The open-air bath offered a breathtaking view, likely due to the perfect positioning of the mountains—neither too close nor too far. The Room was spacious, and the staff provided excellent service. However, some areas felt outdated. Replacing the refrigerator with a newer model, even if not high-end, would be an improvement. I hope to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

    Completely satisfied with everything.

    Finally, the timing worked out, and I was able to visit. First of all, every staff member provided perfect service, which made me feel great. They were kind, well-trained, and excellent. The accommodation itself has some age but is well-maintained and lovely. The food was delicious, making it a very satisfying trip. Thank you very much!

    As expected.

    It seems that you are making various efforts to maintain the pricing. Especially, your service is truly commendable. To be honest, compared to 8–9 years ago when I first stayed at Ginyu, I feel the quality of the cuisine has slightly declined. However, thanks to other efforts, overall, it still makes me want to come back again. I regret not checking the name of the staff member who served us. If possible, I would love to stay here again. I sincerely hope that Ginyu continues its core values and thrives for many years to come.

    I had always wanted to stay at Hakone Ginyu, a famous accommodation known for being difficult to book. Fortunately, there was a sudden cancellation, and I decided to make the reservation. The attentiveness and thoughtfulness of the room staff, as well as the delicious meals in the morning and evening, exceeded my expectations. The open-air baths in both the room and the large public bath were also wonderful, and I enjoyed them multiple times. Additionally, there was an amazing surprise that made it an even more memorable two days than expected. I definitely want to stay here again.

    It was also great for families!

    We traveled with two children, and the staff was very considerate, making our stay very comfortable. The Room was spacious, and with the private open-air bath in the guest room, we could relax safely inside the Room. Since it was a Japanese-style Room where you take off your shoes from the lobby, the children could crawl around safely.

    It was my long-awaited stay at Ginyu, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointing trip.

    This time, I was very much looking forward to visiting Ginyu. Upon arrival at the Property, we were smoothly guided to our Room and relaxed there until dinner. However, I found some used tissues and cotton in the pocket of the haori worn over the yukata, and requested an exchange, but a new haori never arrived. The next day, since we had a late checkout Plan, we were leisurely enjoying the Room bath after breakfast when an employee mistakenly entered our Room for cleaning, creating an awkward situation. Without any words of apology, they left the Room, leaving us to end our trip on a very sad note. Having followed them on social media for several years and eagerly awaited this opportunity with my travel-loving partner, our expectations were high, making it a disappointing trip.

    The best hospitality

    The open-air bath in the room was very pleasant. The autumn leaves were at their best and it was really nice. The surprise was very moving. Thank you to all the staff. I would like to stay again. The in-room meals were elaborate, looked good, and tasted very delicious.

    I'm really glad we came to Hakone Ginyu! It's my wife and my wedding anniversary. The surprise and memento prepared by the staff in advance were truly wonderful. The food was also very delicious. We will never forget this day, thank you very much! My wife and I did not inform the staff of our specific arrival time, but when we arrived at the intersection, the staff was waiting for us. Later, the staff explained the surrounding environment and the Facility. The staff at the bar in the evening were also very kind, which was really helpful. Thank you very much! It was a wonderful day!
