It was a refined Ryokan for adults. The bath was also excellent. I would like to stay again.

    Blissful Me Time

A relaxing, tranquil Accommodation for adults. Watch the ever-changing sky, sea, and forest, and the sparkling stars; soak in the Onsen whenever you like; and enjoy high-quality meals... Above all, the staff’s hospitality is outstanding. During my stay, they never once asked for my name or Room number, and they even adjusted the end time of dinner to fit my spa Reservation. Thanks to their seamless communication and thoughtful care, I felt completely at ease throughout my stay. I will be back again. Thank you very much.

    Ocean View

I was able to relax on the sofa while enjoying the view of Oshima from the Room. There was a massage chair in the Room, which was great for easing my swollen legs after being stuck in traffic. Oshima could also be seen from the open-air bath in the Room, and since it was a private open-air bath attached to the Room, I was able to soak in the Onsen at my leisure. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. The simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) was especially well-seasoned and very enjoyable. I will stay again, and I look forward to visiting you.

This was my second stay, and it was excellent.

The Room bath was also great; when it felt a bit too hot, they quickly lowered the temperature for us. Dinner was excellent, especially the sashimi and the simmered golden eye snapper, which were outstanding. Breakfast was very satisfying as well, with a choice of dried fish and the option of either rice or rice porridge.

Stay at Omuro no Mori Gyokusui

We stayed as a family of four to celebrate our daughter’s new job. The food was absolutely delicious, and everyone in our family was very satisfied. The service was attentive, allowing us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. The sake tasting set felt like a great value despite being so tasty. Even though I usually prefer large public baths, I was very satisfied with the in-room bath. It was clean and just the right size, and knowing there is a dedicated bath attendant made that satisfaction feel well deserved. Having raised young children ourselves, we understand how parents feel, but we also thought it was wonderful to occasionally spend time in a calm, adults-only space like Gyokusui. It was slightly cloudy that day, but the view from the Room was outstanding. We’d love to stop by again on a sunny day.

    This is the best Ryokan!

We stayed as a family. What impressed us first was the warm, hospitality-filled service from all the staff. The welcome drink and sweets we received upon arrival were delicious, and they made the very start of our trip feel special. The open-air bath in our Room was perfectly heated, and the ocean view from the terrace was outstanding. Sipping the half-bottle of wine we received as a Diamond member benefit while watching Sagami Bay glow in the sunset was truly exceptional—we enjoyed an incredibly luxurious moment. The staff member who looked after us at dinner was also very kind and friendly, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal. The sliced kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) in particular was exquisite. Since it was during Golden Week, there were heavy traffic jams around nearby sightseeing spots such as Mt. Omuro, so we couldn’t see everything we had planned. Still, staying at this Accommodation on a hill in Izu Kogen itself became one of our best travel memories. My parents were delighted, saying, “This is the first time we’ve stayed at such a wonderful Accommodation.” We usually stay around Hakone-Yumoto, but this place made us want to return here next time instead. From check-in to check-out, we had an absolutely wonderful time. Thank you very much.

The in-Room bath and open-air bath are excellent; there is no large public bath.

The food and service were excellent. The Room has an open-air Onsen bath, but it was disappointing that there is no large public bath. Since it’s an Onsen area, I assumed there would be a large public bath.

An Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again

I have been staying here once or twice a year for about nine years. Although there have been changes in staff and the head chef, I am always satisfied with the consistently attentive service and meals. Recently, I’ve especially felt that they go the extra mile to ensure guests are comfortable—for example, preparing the Room in advance exactly as requested. Despite this level of service and food, I think the accommodation cost is much better value than other similar Accommodations. I plan to visit again this year.

Enjoy a refreshing ocean view from the window.

It was a newly built, very clean Accommodation. Lovely paintings were displayed throughout, which left a great impression. The view from the window felt open and spacious, and it was beautiful to see Oshima in the distance. Since this is Izu and it doesn’t get extremely cold, there is no floor heating. The Onsen water is clear and colorless with a light, smooth feel. It is free-flowing from the source, but because the natural source temperature is relatively low (around 40°C), the Accommodation heats it up to about 60°C. If it’s too hot, you can add water to adjust it to your preferred temperature. I felt it was a shame to dilute the spring water, but it wasn’t a temperature I could soak in as-is, so I ended up adding quite a lot of water. In my case, I had to do this each time I bathed. The meal portions are modest, so many men may find them insufficient. There is no late-night snack service. The food isn’t “wow” level, but it’s pleasantly tasty overall. The ingredient quality also feels average for the price. Soft drinks are available in the lobby until 10:30 in the morning and until 22:00 at night. All staff were pleasant, but their service felt rushed overall—for example, being told they would take us to our Room before everyone had finished their welcome drink in the lobby; being urged to leave the dining area even if still eating once breakfast time (until 9:45) had passed by five minutes; and being encouraged to settle the bill right after meals before checkout. Since prices aren’t particularly high, it gave me the impression they are making various efforts to reduce costs.

    It was very relaxing.

The open-air bath in the Room was spacious and very relaxing. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. One thing we noticed was that there was no clock in the Room, which was inconvenient. Also, the morning sun felt great, but it was quite bright, so we thought sheer curtains would have been helpful. This trip was for our wedding anniversary, and we mentioned it at the time of Reservation, so we would have been completely satisfied if there had been a little something extra (they did take photos for us—for example, a dessert plate).

I want to visit during cherry blossom season.

The surrounding area features a wonderful cherry-blossom-lined avenue, and I think it’s rare to find an Accommodation where you can enjoy such a view from the Room window. It’s not just that you can see the sea—the islands add the perfect accent, creating a truly stunning panorama. However... I was concerned about both service and cleanliness. First, when being shown to the Room, I was given explanations while standing on cold flooring without slippers. Since it was January, I felt chilled to the core. And when I looked at my socks afterward, they showed how dirty the floor was... Then there was the toilet in the Room: a faint odor and a sticky floor. These are issues that should be preventable through everyday teamwork among staff. Because this detracts from the enjoyment of traveling, I really hope this will be addressed properly. Also, regarding the coffee provided as an extra service rather than something stocked in the Room: I felt it was a shame that it had the same aroma and flavor as what’s already in the Room. Even inexpensive coffee can taste remarkably better with just a little extra effort—and it greatly enhances relaxation as well. Overall, it felt like a lack of breathing room among staff may have contributed to these issues. A small bit of consideration for guests, a final cleaning check, and taking time to brew coffee—these seem like challenges that could be resolved if there were more leeway. At an Accommodation in Chiba with more than thirty Rooms—far more reasonably priced than this one—the proprietress celebrated my birthday during dinner. I was genuinely moved by their extraordinary accumulated efforts in every aspect and their spirit of hospitality toward guests. I believe that leads directly to peace of mind during one’s stay and happiness at feeling glad you came. If you neglect the fundamentals, no matter how much “specialness” you try to create, it falls flat. With only nine Rooms offering such a quiet otherworldly atmosphere, I honestly felt it wasn’t being fully utilized—and that is truly unfortunate.

    I splurged and made ...

I splurged and made a Reservation here as a reward for myself (solo trip). This Accommodation had everything: delicious food, beautiful views, and an Onsen I could enjoy whenever and as long as I wanted. Because it was a private Room, I could dine without worrying about others, and I was also able to enjoy as much of my favorite coffee as I liked in my Room. The sweets were so delicious that I even bought some as souvenirs. Next time, I’d love to book a Multiple Night Stay! I look forward to staying with you again.

    The Ultimate in Tranquility

We stayed as a couple. It felt very private, and the quietness really stood out. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to relax. The open-air bath in the Room was wonderful with free-flowing natural hot spring water, though it would be even better if it were a bit larger. From the balcony, we could see the distant Pacific Ocean and the horizon, and the stillness—so complete that nothing seemed to move in view—was truly soothing. The meals were delicious, and since there are only a few Rooms, we hardly ever ran into other guests. Strongly recommended for those who value privacy and want to unwind at a leisurely pace.

It was a wonderful accommodation that I was very satisfied with.

Every year around this time, my spouse and I visit Izu. We were truly impressed by the thoughtful hospitality, meals, Onsen, Facility offerings, and the beautiful view from the window. After dinner, we enjoyed coffee at the lobby counter and had a wonderful, relaxing time chatting for a while with a staff member who kindly kept us company. As an older couple’s husband said on his way out, “We’ll be back!”—we couldn’t agree more! We found a very quiet and calming Accommodation. Thank you very much.

    First-time stay: Jan 8–9, 2026

The Facility and Onsen are excellent. I stayed in a second-floor Room, and the view was wonderful. The sunrise was amazing!!!!! One slight disappointment was the portion size of the dinner meat and rice—the meat portion was small... I don’t think it would be enough for younger guests. I also heard that only enough breakfast porridge is prepared for the number of guests, so seconds weren’t available.

An Accommodation Known for Exceptional Hospitality

This was my first stay. I had informed them in advance that I was pregnant, and on the day they confirmed my meal requirements again and provided attentive, thoughtful service. All drinks were offered decaf, and a pregnancy pillow had been prepared beforehand—an Accommodation where their care truly stands out. The Onsen in the Room was wonderfully relaxing, and since it was private I could enjoy it without worrying about others. The meals were also very delicious. I would like to stay again.

    Relaxing Accommodation

This was my second stay. I usually feel it’s a waste to stay at the same place twice, thinking there must be somewhere even nicer—but this is the first Accommodation that made me want to come back. Everything feels very clean. The view from the Room is wonderful. You can enjoy many different faces of the sea—sunrise, sunset, and more. At night, you can see countless stars. A staff member told us we might see shooting stars, and we were able to watch from the balcony. The sound of flowing Onsen water, along with the wind, insects, and birdsong—these natural sounds are so soothing in such a quiet setting. The meals are excellent—not only are the ingredients superb, but the richness of the dashi brings out their flavors. The gentle taste is comforting, and you can feel the care put into each dish. The Onsen warms you through to your core. In winter, stepping out onto the balcony to feel the cold air before soaking again gives a wonderfully refreshing sense of balance. Even the scent is calming: Lemongrass aroma using Izu lava stone. When I stayed for the first time, I loved it so much that I asked one of the female staff members many questions about it. It’s an aroma she created—stylish and perfect for Izu. The people, scenery, food, and Onsen—everything here is healing. I definitely want to stay again.

    Multiple Night Stay is recommended.

This was my second stay this year following May, and my fifth stay overall. The reason I keep coming back is simple: the bright, spacious Room; the wonderful view overlooking the Izu Islands; delicious meals; and the staff—overall high quality with excellent value for money. One more (slightly niche) point: I really like the solid-wood flooring (probably about 19 mm thick), which feels gentle on bare feet. The dinner on the first night (especially the simmered kinmedai) is delicious, but on the second night an even more satisfying lineup of dishes made with luxurious ingredients is served. All of the international staff members worked hard with warm smiles, and watching their mannerisms made me feel that staff training is thorough. Although I have nothing but praise, I rated in-room amenities and overall satisfaction at four stars—not because of any major complaint, but because I hope to see further improvements. If I had to mention something, as I wrote last time as well, thicker towels and bathrobes would add a more premium feel. Thanks to you all, I was able to rest quietly again this time. I’d love to return again in about six months.

    Room odor

Rooms, Amenities The Room was spotless, and I had a very comfortable stay. Even the balcony railing and glass were polished to a crystal-clear shine. The fresh flowers in the restroom were replaced with new ones the next day as well, which I enjoyed. The reason I gave 4 stars is that the entire Room smelled strongly like the previous guest’s body odor—almost like an underarm odor—and it made me feel uncomfortable throughout my stay. It seemed fully booked, so I assumed changing Rooms would be impossible and just put up with it, but I regret not asking about it without hesitation. Customer Service All of the staff were very kind and considerate. When I was at the smoking area a little after 6:00 a.m., one staff member even said, “It’s cold—shall I make you some coffee?” Since drink service in the lounge starts at 7:00 a.m., I declined out of consideration. Thank you very much. One disappointing point was that my assigned room attendant changed on the final day. After reading other Reviews, it seemed that one person often takes care of guests from start to finish, so that was a bit disappointing. But of course staff have days off, so it can’t be helped. At breakfast, dessert was served too early by the replacement attendant (I hadn’t even finished half my meal), which made me feel rushed to eat quickly. It was my last meal there, so that was unfortunate. Dining They accommodated ingredients I cannot eat very well. I was satisfied with the flavors; everything was delicious. The fresh seafood in particular was excellent. For me personally, though, one soup tasted a bit too salty. There were almost too many dishes overall. By the end I was completely full and couldn’t eat much of the mixed rice, which is still disappointing. My first disappointment was with the menu composition: On day two, I didn’t need lava-grilled dishes or shabu-shabu—I would have preferred something fried instead. Personally, I don’t like dishes that require using a tabletop burner (such as lava grilling or shabu-shabu) because they take effort before you can actually eat them. Since this is an Onsen trip meant for relaxing slowly and peacefully, I would rather enjoy food already prepared for us. The second issue was lemons: Every lemon garnish had dried-out cut surfaces—they were shriveled on every plate. Each dish looked beautifully arranged with a strong seasonal touch, but those dried lemon slices ruined it.

    A Calm Accommodation

I stayed at an Accommodation near Mt. Omuro in Izu Kogen. It is a quiet Accommodation with only nine guest Rooms. The Room was clean, and the Onsen semi-open-air bath was very comfortable with the water temperature just right. Meals were served in a private dining room, so we could dine in a relaxed setting. The number of dishes was just right, and everything was delicious. The Room has air conditioning, and there was also an oil heater, which I used at night. I slept very comfortably. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful—thank you for taking such good care of us.

    This was my first ti...

This was my first time staying here. I was able to relax and take it easy with my mother. The view from the Room was wonderful—we could see the starry sky, and the morning sun was so bright it felt amazing. The bath was at just the right temperature; I thought it might be cold, but it was perfect and truly excellent. I also used the massage chair in the Room many times, and it felt great. The meals were enjoyable both in taste and presentation. The portions seemed a bit large for my mother, but they were just right for me. The explanations of each dish and the service were very kind, attentive, and comfortable. If I have another chance, I would like to visit your sister property as well.

A top-class Accommodation offering guest rooms with private open-air baths (semi-open-air).

I stay at a Ryokan with an open-air bath in the guest room every other month. Overall, this is an outstanding Accommodation. I stayed on the second floor, and the location is exceptional. The open-air bath is large enough for me (over 180 cm tall) to stretch my legs out straight. The water was a bit lukewarm at first, but the staff adjusted it immediately, and it stayed comfortable until morning. The living room gets a lot of sunlight so it can be bright, but you have a magnificent view of Oshima right in front of you. It doesn’t feel like there’s any distance between Izusan and the sea. There is a Japanese-style room at the back, but we hardly had any chance to use it; for those who like tatami rooms, it may be perfect after a bath. The meals were made with carefully selected ingredients, and everything—from the appetizers to the fresh fish and simmered fish—was delicious. The soup with its rich dashi was especially good. For us (both over 60), the portions felt a little large, but we were still very satisfied with breakfast as well, which was thoughtfully prepared throughout. One issue: both heating and cooling in the living room were not working properly. This was the only negative point regarding the Facility. We informed the staff about it at check-out. We would definitely love to visit again.

    Satisfied with the attentive service

As a returning guest, I was very pleased that all of my requests from my previous stay had already been reflected when I arrived at the Accommodation. I was highly satisfied with how well guest information was shared and handled without any oversights. Although there had been some staff changes, everyone greeted me warmly and provided courteous service, making my stay very comfortable. I would definitely stay again.

The in-room open-air bath was disappointing.

This was our first stay at Gyokusui in Izu-Kogen. The location, cuisine, Room, and everything else were excellent. However, the temperature of the open-air bath in the Room was too hot to relax in, even after repeatedly adding water. I mentioned it to a staff member, but it was forgotten, and it only became a comfortable temperature after breakfast. Being able to soak many times at a leisurely pace in an open-air bath in the Room is one of the biggest pleasures of staying overnight. Given that this is a high-priced Accommodation, it was very disappointing.

    Highly satisfied!

We stayed for two nights. We were very satisfied and able to relax in the spacious Room. It rained on the second day, but the open-air bath in the guest Room has a roof and partitions, so we could enjoy the Onsen without getting hit by raindrops. The meals were also excellent, especially the fish, and since we dined in a private Room, we could take our time and savor everything. We would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.

Accommodation with Fine Cuisine and Hospitality

The staff's service is excellent—kind and attentive, which made me feel at ease. The cuisine is delicate and incredibly delicious, beautifully complemented by elegant tableware that enhances the dining experience. While simple tableware has become common recently, using dishes that match the food feels truly luxurious. The Room is clean, and the open-air bath with abundant hot water was highly satisfying.

This was my first time staying here. The accommodation has a calm atmosphere, and the staff's warm welcome and attentiveness were truly impressive. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, leaving both my heart and stomach satisfied. The same attendant took care of us until check-out, allowing me to relax without any stress. The private open-air bath in the guest room was very spacious, with the water temperature perfectly managed by the caretaker for a comfortable soak anytime. It’s an exceptional accommodation.
