  The staff's service ...

  The staff's service was excellent, and I was very satisfied. The Facility rating is 4 because having a large public bath or open-air bath outside the Room would have been perfect. The Italian course meal and breakfast were plentiful, allowing me to fully enjoy Hokkaido.

At Kasyo Gyoen, all 23 rooms are equipped with a "Forest View Bath" featuring Usuppetsu Onsen water. To allow guests to enjoy the onsen in a private setting while admiring the primeval forest, we have chosen to install onsen baths exclusively in the rooms. While there are currently no plans to add public baths or open-air baths outside of the rooms, we will continue working on facility updates and service improvements so that time spent within the room remains fulfilling for our guests. We are delighted that you enjoyed both the Italian course dinner and Japanese-style breakfast set during your stay.   Business Hotels provide better staff training.

  After checking in around 4 PM, I was disappointed to find that no good breakfast reservation times were available. When I went for dinner, despite empty table seats being available, I was given a counter seat on the second floor that seemed hastily arranged. If reservations for such seats are possible, it would have been nice to be informed at check-in. To make matters worse, I left something in the closet and called two days after checkout. They said they would check and later confirmed it was there. This raises the question of whether they didn’t clean for two days or simply don’t clean closets at all. When I went to retrieve my item, it was handed over without any apology. I will never visit again, but please be cautious if you decide to stay here.

Firstly, we regret any inconvenience caused by not accommodating your preferred breakfast time. Regarding the restaurant seating, we operate on a same-day basis rather than a prior reservation system. The counter seats on the second floor, which were assigned to you this time, are highly appreciated by many guests for their excellent view; however, we deeply apologize for causing mistrust due to insufficient prior explanation. For those who prefer private rooms, we offer a "Private Room Guarantee Plan" available on each reservation site and would be grateful if you could consider it next time. Concerning forgotten items, please note that due to privacy protection policies, our facility does not directly contact guests regarding such matters. All items are thoroughly checked during cleaning and promptly collected and stored upon discovery. When contacted about lost items, we confirm the situation accordingly. We acknowledge that there was misleading information in this regard and have corrected it. As for the comment about being handed over without an apology, our staff reported providing courteous guidance at the time of return and assisting with changing clothes as per your request to change before leaving. That said, whether our response was sufficiently considerate is something we must reflect upon further.   I had a very relaxing and comfortable stay.

  The room was clean and had a Bluetooth speaker, which was great. The amenities included Sekkisei products, which were very helpful. The Onsen was slightly hot but being a carbonated spring, it warmed me up from the core. The pillow was also very comfortable to sleep on. Dinner was Italian and served in just the right portions. I enjoyed the wine selection, but my husband mentioned he would have liked more variety in alcoholic beverages. The late-night rice balls were delicious as well. Breakfast was a Japanese set meal with impressively large fish portions, and I appreciated that the salad was served buffet-style. The service was attentive without being overbearing, making for a very pleasant experience overall.

  As expected, it was the best Hotel.

  It was a trip with my daughter. I wanted to choose a highly-rated Hotel, so I checked rankings and Reviews multiple times before making the Reservation. This Hotel was ranked No.2 in Hokkaido, and since the No.1 Hotel was fully booked, I joined the waiting list for cancellations. However, after comparing Room photos, this one seemed more appealing, so I canceled the waiting list and chose this one instead. The Room was absolutely amazing, and the meals were excellent as well. The staff provided outstanding service throughout our stay. I had some doubts about Italian cuisine at first but found it to be as delicious as a three-star restaurant in Tokyo (where dinner cost 30,000 yen over 10 years ago). It truly felt like great value for money! Although it's a bit far away, I would love to visit this Hotel again someday. It’s such a comfortable place that you might feel it’s too good to leave for sightseeing!

  It was a heartwarming service.

  Last month, I stayed with my mother at this accommodation. It was our first time in Jozankei, and we were considering other hotels in the onsen town. However, after calling to inquire about transportation and other details, the woman who answered the phone was incredibly kind and attentive, which led us to choose this accommodation. As expected, all the staff were very friendly and had a warm yet professional demeanor that made us feel at ease. When we noticed a possible issue with our room's facility late at night, we called the front desk. They answered immediately on the first ring and sent someone over right away. It turned out not to be an issue but rather part of the room's original structure, so we continued our stay without any problems. The next morning during breakfast service, a staff member kindly asked if everything was okay afterward. At check-out as well, another staff member followed up on it seamlessly—showing that information was well-shared among their team. During check-out conversations with one of their female staff members, her thoughtful words left me deeply moved by her genuine care. The consistent level of excellent service across all interactions reflects both individual efforts by each team member and effective training in customer care. My mother also thoroughly enjoyed her stay here. Thank you for providing such a pleasant experience!

  Delicious dinner

  The dinner was incredibly delicious, almost melting the brain. The ingredients, preparation, and portions were all exceptional. Additionally, the service provided by Mr. I, who explained the menu and wine selection, was outstanding and made the meal even more enjoyable. As for the Room, the view of the forest through the large window was breathtaking, and the natural hot spring with its excellent water quality and benefits left my skin feeling soft and smooth. I heard that wild animals like deer, foxes, and squirrels might be spotted but unfortunately didn’t see any this time. Perhaps they appear in winter? Thank you for creating such wonderful memories!

  A wonderful accommodation with thoughtful attention to detail.

  The hospitality upon arrival was exceptional, truly a treasure of the Ryokan, and it completely eased our travel fatigue. The room was thoughtfully designed for convenience, making our stay very comfortable. The Onsen was at the perfect temperature with a great view—everything was wonderful, and we were glad we came. One small point: the portion of meat at dinner felt slightly too much. It might be better to serve one slice instead and include a warm appetizer instead (perhaps fillet would have left a different impression as the loin felt a bit heavy). The late-night rice ball snack was delicious. Other than that, everything was perfect, especially the top-class hospitality. Both the facilities and service were outstanding at this accommodation.

  It was so relaxing!

  I decided to visit alone and was truly impressed! The Italian full-course meal and wine were absolutely delicious and very soothing. Having a Bluetooth speaker in the Room was a nice touch! I would love to visit again. Thank you so much!

  Excellent service accommodation

  During our trip back home, we stayed at this accommodation to celebrate the birthdays of my mother, born in May, and myself. Since my elderly mother finds it difficult to use large public baths, we always choose a room with an onsen. This was our first visit here, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. - When there wasn’t a welcome drink that suited our taste, the staff immediately accommodated us. - Our room was upgraded without any mention or request. - Although I had mentioned disliking certain ingredients for dinner but was told same-day changes were not possible, they still managed to adjust the dish for me. - The shuttle service initially lacked a step stool for boarding and alighting, which made it challenging for my mother. However, by the next day, one had been provided. These thoughtful gestures left us deeply impressed. The effort to meet guests' needs is truly commendable. That said: - While allergies can be declared in advance, it's hard to notify about disliked ingredients before knowing the menu. For kaiseki meals with many dishes this isn’t much of an issue as you can simply leave what you don’t like; however, with courses where each dish matters more significantly this becomes tricky. A prefix-style option might allow guests to enjoy their meal without prior declarations. - Both dinner and breakfast were delicious overall! Additionally: - It would be nice if the lounge offered more than just coffee—perhaps other beverages or snacks (though evening snacks like baked goods are available after dinner). Lastly: - While bed-making was very neat and tidy, it felt overly tight—making it difficult to pull out blankets properly from under the bed frame. As a result I couldn’t fully cover myself up while sleeping comfortably; perhaps slightly looser arrangements could help improve ease-of-use? Despite these minor suggestions/requests written above—it turned into such wonderful trip bringing joy especially towards mom thanks largely due toward attentive staff members’ warm hospitality! Special shoutout goes toward female team-member originating Myanmar whose efforts stood-out positively too! Thank You So Much Again!

  For our first visit ...

  For our first visit to Jozankei Onsen, we chose this accommodation because the room had a private onsen with natural hot spring water. Dinner was Italian, featuring Wagyu steak, which was quite generous in portion and a bit too much for older guests. Breakfast was the classic ryokan-style meal, with free access to salad and drinks. The accommodation seems recently renovated, as the interior is very clean. The onsen was slightly hot, which suited our preference. After checking the website in advance, we opted for a room without a balcony to better enjoy the view. Each room features our private Usuppetsu Onsen "Forest View Bath," which has a different water quality compared to neighboring Jozankei Onsen. It is a calcium-sodium bicarbonate spring known for its cleansing properties that remove impurities and dead skin cells while leaving your skin soft and smooth—a unique source available only at our facility.   We had a luxurious time.

  This was my second stay since last July, and I had a very relaxing and satisfying time. I spent time in the lounge drinking coffee without doing anything in particular, but it felt like time flowed more slowly there, allowing me to fully relax. The late-night rice balls were also delicious. It was hard to leave after just one night, so next time I would love to plan a multiple night stay. Although it wasn’t a special occasion, staying at this hotel turned into a memorable event for me. I will definitely come back again. Thank you very much!

  We stayed as a family of five. The location, being in Oku-Jozankei, is a bit farther from Jozankei Onsen, making it ideal for relaxing in the Onsen. However, younger guests might find it slightly boring as there isn't much to do.

  Both the facilities and services were excellent!

  I love visiting Onsen and have been to many places, but recently, due to rising prices and the impact of inbound tourism, I’ve been disappointed by many Hotels and Ryokans where the service has worsened despite increasing costs. I visited this place with low expectations, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience with no worries at all. The staff here are absolutely amazing! Conversations at the restaurant during both dinner and breakfast were delightful—thank you so much (*´∀｀*). Of course, the food was delicious too (the Italian dinner was fantastic, especially the carne! The breakfast bento box with homemade tofu and freshly cooked rice was also very satisfying). The Room was clean (thank you to the housekeeping staff), and both the temperature and quality of the Onsen were perfect. Thanks to the towel warmer, towels dried quickly, allowing me to enjoy multiple visits to the Onsen! I enjoyed my stay so much that I forgot to take photos—next time I visit, I'll make sure to capture some memories. It was unfortunately raining during checkout which made things a bit hectic; however, I'd like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude. Regarding the Italian dinner course, particularly the carne dish, Hokkaido's vast lands, rich pastures, and pure water allow cattle to grow in a stress-free environment. This results in tender meat with rich flavor. At our accommodation, we carefully prepare this beef using optimal cooking methods to maximize its deliciousness. We take pride in offering this as “the finest dish,” so hearing your comment that “especially the carne was excellent” has brought great joy to our chef. For breakfast, we serve a Japanese set meal complemented by a half-buffet style where guests can enjoy fresh vegetables. The rice is Hokkaido-grown Yumepirika—a variety known for its sweetness—which I personally love as well. We are also deeply grateful for your satisfaction with your room and Onsen experience; such feedback delights even our cleaning staff. Although it was unfortunate that the weather on your checkout day wasn’t ideal, we hope you will visit us again during another season to create more wonderful memories along with plenty of commemorative photos at our accommodation. However, we deeply apologize for any discomfort caused due to our insufficient service from check-in to check-out despite the opportunity to host you. Regarding your early arrival before the designated check-in time, please note that our check-in starts at 2:00 PM as clearly stated during the Check Reservation process, and we prepare accordingly for that time. Arriving an hour earlier with requests such as avoiding contact with other guests and a high-handed attitude posed significant challenges for our staff, leaving us feeling disheartened. Additionally, comments or actions perceived by our staff as being treated "like germs" were deeply hurtful and far removed from the spirit of hospitality we hold dear. Our accommodation consists of 23 rooms located in a serene environment within a national park where we strive daily to provide comfort to diverse guests from around the world. We have international staff members who have received warm words of appreciation from many guests over time. However, outright refusal of interaction with certain staff or unilateral requests like avoiding contact with other international guests left us perplexed. We value meaningful conversations and maintaining an appropriate distance while wholeheartedly offering hospitality—this is central to our philosophy. While there may be differences compared to other accommodations, this is precisely what defines us and what we cherish most. Avoiding interaction during your stay may have led you to perceive our service as "careless and low-quality." Nevertheless, regardless of feedback received, we will continue striving while upholding our values and principles. It was not easy deciding whether or not this response should be visible publicly; however, please understand that as humans ourselves, there are times when even we feel hurt. For this reason alone in this instance—we cannot simply say “we are sorry.” We hope for your understanding on this matter.

  Before our stay, we ...

  Before our stay, we contacted the Ryokan several times via email, but it took at least 3-4 days to receive a response, which made us concerned as it was different from other high-end Ryokans. One guest had an allergy and could not use feather pillows, but upon arrival, polyester pillows and comforters were provided. The meals were delicious; however, the portions could have been slightly larger. To make up for this, onigiri and other snacks were available in the lobby as late-night refreshments.

  The service was pleasant.

  All staff provided pleasant service, making my stay enjoyable. The Room was spacious with a user-friendly desk, suitable for various tasks, which I appreciated. Although I prefer samue, the yukata provided was comfortable and easy to use without any inconvenience. Meals were well-portioned, and the evening snacks in the lounge were just right, adding to my satisfaction. Thank you for accommodating our anniversary celebration; I also enjoyed listening to the wine pairing explanations. For breakfast beverages, only oolong tea, tomato juice, and milk were available; it would be nice to have fruit juices like orange or apple juice as well. The Japanese-style breakfast set was satisfying overall. Regarding the Room's bath temperature of 43°C—it initially felt lukewarm but became much warmer at night and in the morning; I'm unsure why this happened. A slightly deeper bath might make it more comfortable to use.

  Perfect for a birthday trip

  It was a very enjoyable trip. The snow scenery at the Hotel was very beautiful, and the view from the intricate small windows was very quiet and pleasant. If you have time, I think you should stay here for at least two nights. There is a shuttle bus from Sapporo Station to the Hotel, which is very convenient if you plan your time well.

  Highly recommended.

  I found a property that I want to repeat after a long time, so I'm writing a review. The hospitality of the staff, the room, the onsen, and the meals were all excellent! Especially, the attentiveness of the staff was very smart and thorough, allowing us to have a truly pleasant stay from start to finish. The meals were so delicious that I would want to repeat just for them. I will visit again!

  It was very good.

  From the moment we arrived by car to the final checkout, the staff provided exceptional service. I love Onsen and have used various Properties both within and outside the region, but I believe the hospitality here was on par with or even exceeded that of top-class Hotels in Japan. This level of service at this price is extraordinary. Thank you to all the staff. I enjoy outdoor baths during the snowy season, so I was a bit concerned about the in-Room bath being an indoor one when I made the Reservation. However, the quality of the Onsen was excellent, the cleaning was impeccable, and the Room's air conditioning was cool, so it didn’t bother me at all. I thought it would be comfortable to stay during summer or autumn when insects are less of a concern, and I plan to use the Property again during those seasons. The food was not only made with high-quality ingredients but also had a delicate and excellent flavor. It might be difficult considering the price range, but I would be delighted if the in-Room drinks included some of the juices that were offered as a late-night snack.

  During my trip to Ho...

  During my trip to Hokkaido, I had the pleasure of staying here. To sum up, everything was satisfactory. From the phone response during the reservation to the welcome, I felt the hospitality as each staff member attended to us during check-in. The room was spacious, and it was thoroughly cleaned, allowing us to relax with peace of mind. The onsen was also wonderful. The snowy scenery from the onsen was the best, and being able to enjoy the view while soaking was perfect. The meals showed a dedication to the ingredients. The rye bread was delicious, and I ended up having several servings. The stories from the overseas staff about their hometowns were enjoyable, and I was very satisfied. I would like to visit again in winter and other seasons as well. I apologize for the long text.

  Very high-level service and Facility

  Located a little away from Jozankei and along the national highway, it is surrounded by nature, offering a high resort feel. The quality of the cuisine is also very high, with a satisfying and creative Italian dinner and a Japanese breakfast served in a box. The Italian meal served in a private room was calm and pleasant. The complimentary rice balls provided as a late-night snack were delicious. The hospitality of the young and multinational staff is extremely high. Additionally, the Hotel was renovated about five years ago, and its design level is very high, with high-quality furnishings used. It is a rare and excellent Hotel where a harmonious blend of Japanese and Western styles is achieved in a very good way.

  I consulted about the room in advance. I appreciate the courteous response. I had avoided Jozankei because of its noisy image, but this property is located a bit away, allowing for a relaxing stay. I was satisfied with everything: the room, the quality of the hot spring, the meals, and the smiles of the staff. I'm glad I stayed here on the last day of my trip to Hokkaido. I would like to visit again in a different season.

  Correct choice with the connecting room!

  We brought my sister and her husband from Kyushu. They thoroughly enjoyed the private open-air bath in the room and were very satisfied with the delicious food. The connecting rooms, which allowed easy access between them, were very convenient and requesting them was the right choice. It became a comfortable and memorable one-night stay.

  The best Onsen with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source!

  Surrounded by nature, with a lovely garden to stroll through, it was a high-quality space where you could relax away from the onsen town. The room, centered around wooden furniture, offered organic drinks, and the natural hot spring water enveloped the body, providing an incredible detox effect. Dinner was high-quality Italian, with the texture, seasoning, presentation, and portion size all just right, making it delicious. (Breakfast was a typical simple menu, so I couldn't eat much and left quite a bit, which was disappointing.) As I live a lifestyle based on organic products without pesticides, fertilizers, or additives, I couldn't use any of the provided amenities and had to bring my own. It would be greatly appreciated if more properties that are kind to the earth, nature, and people could increase. The staff were very kind and helpful, and I am truly grateful.

  First-time Stays

  It was a property I had been curious about for a long time. Finally, my wish came true, and it became a wonderful birthday celebration for me. The guest room bath was luxurious with flowing water, and the room was clean, so I used it many times.   I don't know...

  I visited after a long time. I detailed my allergies when making the Reservation and explained them again during the pre-confirmation call. Upon check-in, my allergies were confirmed once more, and I provided the same explanation. When it was time for dinner, while eating the first dish, a staff member approached and asked, "The next dish was prepared with allergy ingredients. Would you like us to remove what can be seen, or would you prefer to do it yourself? Or should we remake it with a different sauce?" I found this confusing and replied, "What's the point of asking about allergies multiple times in advance if I have to remove them myself?" In the end, they decided to remake it with a different sauce. Can this be considered accommodating for someone with allergies? I don't understand at all. What would happen if an allergic reaction occurred after dinner? Would you say it's my responsibility? Previously, dishes containing allergy ingredients were served every time, and I would half-heartedly inform them, "It's in this small bowl..." and have the bowl removed. However, this time, my allergic reactions have become stronger, so I confirmed multiple times in advance, yet the ingredients were still mixed in, and I felt the response to allergies was extremely careless. I was very saddened because it was a Property I liked... I loved the Italian dinner, but honestly, I'm now too scared to eat it. The fridge only had water, and I felt the Accommodation Fee and service did not match.

  I was healed.

  We stayed after our daughter's wedding. We were exhausted both physically and mentally, but the delicious Italian food and pairing wine were wonderful.
