  An enjoyable dinner

  Dinner was delicious and entertaining, with a menu that told a story and creative presentations. The open-air bath was lovely in the morning. I sometimes struggle to read at ryokans because there are no bedside reading lights, but lamps were available to borrow here. Thoughtful touches like this were evident throughout. Access is convenient, with a local bus from Kaminoyama-Onsen Station. It’s a place I’d love to visit again.

  A relaxing getaway for adults

  In a word, wonderful. The staff were courteous from the moment we arrived, and the fire in the lobby created a lovely atmosphere. The welcome drinks included alcoholic options, and there were lounge areas on both the first and second floors. We could relax without worrying about other guests and enjoyed a leisurely drink with friends. The hot spring baths included an open-air bath, making the time before dinner thoroughly enjoyable. Dinner unfolded like a story, and its creativity was just as exciting as its flavors. We could also enjoy dessert outside the dining room, a thoughtful touch that let guests spend their time as they pleased. Our first trip to Yamagata became a wonderful memory. Thank you for such a lovely stay. We look forward to returning.

  A peaceful retreat for adults to relax and unwind.

  With just 14 rooms and an adults-only policy, this inn is wonderfully quiet. As soon as we pulled up to the entrance, a staff member came out to greet us. It was mid-October and starting to get chilly, so the lobby fire and pleasant fragrance were especially welcoming. The room was uncluttered, and we filled a dedicated water bottle ourselves to take back to the room. We also chose only the amenities and two-piece loungewear we needed. It felt very eco-friendly. The building is a renovated company retreat, but the courtyard and lush natural surroundings gave it a wonderfully spacious, relaxing feel. Carlsberg beer, shochu, whisky, and soft drinks were available free-flow from check-in to checkout. No snacks were provided as standard, but offering a package with a chef-recommended snack platter was a clever touch. After bathing, we relaxed in our room to the sound of insects outside. We probably did not even need the TV. The mattress on the bed in our Japanese-style room was very comfortable, and there was a choice of pillows. We were told that the creative dinner menu is designed around a different seasonal concept. Every staff member gave equally attentive explanations that added to our enjoyment. Our package included pairings with local red and white wines from Kaminoyama, but since we had already toasted with beer at check-in, the amount felt just right, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. It was good value, too. The dishes were wonderfully varied: burdock simmered in slightly sweet red wine and topped with pink peppercorns, avocado and salmon with a smoky presentation, game, Yamagata beef, and Funagata mushrooms. The dessert was especially elaborate in celebration of the inn’s 10th anniversary. At breakfast, the freshly harvested rice cooked in a traditional pot was delicious, and we also thoroughly enjoyed the local specialty, imoni stew. You can enjoy the free-flow drinks anywhere inside, in your room, or in the garden, making it easy to spend your time however you like. Whether traveling solo, as a couple, or in a group, I think this inn has something to satisfy everyone.

  It was a peaceful retreat in the forest.

  Dinner featured creative cuisine, and every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. Breakfast included a generous serving of taro stew, which left me very full. The bath assigned to men in the evening was a little small, but the complimentary beer was a nice touch. I was very happy to relax around the sunken hearth in the lobby while enjoying a variety of drinks. Given the inn’s welcoming atmosphere, I could see why it was so popular with female guests.

  A lovely place to stay and enjoy the sounds of the forest!

  This was such a cozy place to stay. True to its name, “Sounds of the Forest,” there were all kinds of sounds to enjoy. The crackling fire, the chirping insects, and the peaceful silence were all so soothing. Dinner had a charming storytelling theme, and the chestnut rice and soy milk-based soup were delicious! Breakfast was more than enough for me. I was also delighted to try the imoni stew, which I had been looking forward to. Sustainability is increasingly important these days. Here, you pick up the amenities you need from the lobby and help yourself to water and your choice of loungewear. I thought this was a great approach. I was a little unsure whether the loungewear was also intended for sleeping, as I couldn't find any separate pajamas. Since I was traveling by public transport, the lack of a shuttle made me hesitate a little when choosing this property. However, it is quite close to the bus stop, so anyone with similar concerns should find it easy to reach by bus! There was just one small thing that bothered me. Around the time before dinner and breakfast, I could hear a recurring banging sound from inside my room and wondered where it was coming from. At first, I thought it was a door opening or closing in a nearby room, but that did not seem to be the case. All the staff were warm and attentive without being intrusive. They offered thoughtful service, such as promptly bringing a chair over to the fire for me. I would love to stay here again!

  An inn where you can fully enjoy your stay

  My Relaxing Retreat

  I heard you are celebrating your 10th anniversary. Ever since my first visit, I’ve been soothed by the crackling of the firewood in the hearth and the flames, and I’ve returned many times. During cherry blossom season, I make sure to visit so I don’t miss the beautifully illuminated blossoms filling the entire window, and friends who joined me at my recommendation were deeply impressed as well. The meals are full of thoughtful creativity, and seeing my first-time friends’ surprised faces always makes me smile. The staff’s subtle attentiveness also adds to the comfort of staying here. When I leave, I always say, “I’ll be back!”—and then I really do come back. For me, this is a healing retreat where the sounds of the forest bring a sense of calm.

  The meals were delicious.

  Business trip: 1 person, 1 night

  On a business trip to Akita, I was driving from Tokyo and wanted to stay one night around the halfway point, so I chose Oyado Mori no Ne. What stood out first was how bright and spotless the property felt. The entrance was beautifully maintained and open, and there was a relaxing lounge area with a fireplace, so I felt at ease from the moment I arrived. Check-in wasn’t just a quick procedure at the front desk; I was guided while seated on a sofa, which left me with a strong impression of thoughtful hospitality. The room was more spacious than expected, with a great view from the window. After a long drive, having such a comfortable space to unwind in was truly appreciated. The hot spring bath was also excellent. By chance there were no other guests when I went in, so I could enjoy the large bath all to myself. The water felt relatively light, yet my skin felt smooth afterward—an extremely pleasant onsen experience. The highlight for me was the food. Although it’s a ryokan, dinner wasn’t the typical traditional kaiseki; it incorporated Western elements as well. The presentation was beautiful and enjoyable to look at, and every dish tasted wonderful too. You could really tell everything had been prepared with care, making it an exceptionally satisfying meal. I booked through Ikkyu.com and received one bottle of wine as a member benefit. Being able to enjoy it with dinner meant there was no need to order additional alcohol, which felt like an extra bonus. I originally chose this place simply as an overnight stop on my long drive from Tokyo to Akita, but it turned out to be much more than that—a stay worth enjoying in its own right. From the atmosphere and rooms to the hot spring baths, meals, and service, everything exceeded expectations. I would gladly stay again if given the chance.

  A quiet and lovely place to stay

  It was a very quiet property, the facilities were clean, and the hospitality was excellent. They mentioned it was their 10th anniversary, and I can see why they’ve been going strong for so long. There was also EV charging available, which was a big help.

  It was a stylish and...

  It was a stylish and relaxing Accommodation. Since I was traveling for work and didn’t have much time to stay, I made a Reservation thinking anywhere would be fine, so honestly I wasn’t expecting much—but the staff were kind and welcoming, and it was very comfortable. You choose your own amenities and loungewear, but considering the accommodation cost, it felt efficient and didn’t bother me at all. I sometimes stay at other Facilities with higher rates, but in terms of value for money, I was very satisfied. For example, I thought it would be nice if they had ReFa hair dryers—and about half of them were. The welcome drinks were free as well. Dinner was also excellent; the Yamagata beef was delicious. Even if not everything was luxurious, there were thoughtful touches here and there that made me very happy overall. The only downside was that the Room didn’t have a bathroom, but it wasn’t a big issue. Thank you for taking care of me. ,

  A quiet, relaxing Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again

  The Accommodation is pleasantly small, making it convenient to get to the restaurant and the baths. A fireplace welcomes you in both winter and summer. The free space on the second floor is stylish, and the Room is clean and beautiful. The meals are always enjoyable and delicious. For me in my 60s, it’s just the right size, with just the right amount of food—an exceptionally comfortable Accommodation.

  Thank you for upgrading our Room. The moment we stepped inside, we were completely captivated by the quietly glowing hearth and the calming scent of incense.   Blissful Moments

  How can a space this...

  We had a truly fulfilling stay.

  The staff’s service and the overall atmosphere were even better than the last time we stayed! Watching the fire in the fireplace… and the outdoor bonfire, like a campfire, was especially memorable.   Relax and unwind

  This was my first st...

  This was my first stay. The staff were very pleasant. The meals were just the right amount for us, and we enjoyed them. Points I noticed: - The large public bath was on the small side, and the only amenity provided was a shower cap. - The smell of smoke from the fireplace was quite noticeable. - I took coffee from the lounge back to my Room, but it felt like it might spill. A larger paper cup or a lid would make it feel safer. - The sink in the Room washbasin area wasn’t very practical; water splashed everywhere. - Also regarding the washbasin area: there is an opening for trash above, but it’s too far from the trash bin installed below, so trash didn’t go into the bin properly.

  A peaceful accommodation

  A quiet Accommodation where you can relax while viewing cherry blossoms. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious. We also enjoyed some game dishes, which were very tasty with no odor at all. If I had to ask for one thing, there were paper towels in the washroom, but it would have been nice to have a face towel for drying your face.

  Disappointed

  I chose to stay here (solo trip) because it seemed popular with female guests and had good Reviews, but honestly I was disappointed. (I didn’t notice at night because it was dim,) but in the morning light, the paper (fusuma paper?) on the Room fittings looked dirty and worn, and rust on the fence outside the restaurant window really stood out. Dinner was said to be “story-driven,” but the red bell pepper mousse had far too much raspberry sauce, making it unclear what was meant to be the main element; there was a cold soup even though it was still a chilly season; the sauces and dressings tasted monotonous as if they were store-bought; the game meat had no real flavor; and for the main steak, every side dish was cold. It seemed like everything had been plated in advance and then brought out with the steak. Cold vegetables, mashed potatoes that had cooled and set, and meat where the fat overpowered everything. Breakfast consisted of various side dishes served on a divided plate. As expected, both the grilled fish and omelet were cold. What I did enjoy were: the mixed rice at dinner, and at breakfast, the rice, blanched greens in broth/soy sauce dressing, and pickles. There’s a fireplace right after you enter so the atmosphere is nice, but… overall it ended up being a disappointing stay.

  We sincerely and deeply apologize that, despite your choosing Oyado Mori no Ne, we ended up falling far short of your expectations. You selected our property for your solo trip and came to us trusting the Reviews, yet shortcomings in our upkeep—such as dirt on the Room fittings and rust on the Facility—as well as, above all, the quality and serving temperature of the meals caused you repeated disappointment. We keenly feel how inadequate we were. Regarding the meals in particular, we recognize that we failed at fundamentals we should value most—temperature control at service and overall balance of flavors—and all staff members, including our culinary team, are reflecting seriously on this. That we could not serve the main dish in its best condition is something that should never happen for professionals, and we take it very seriously. In such circumstances, your kind words about the takikomi rice and blanched greens were our only consolation. Although you described the space around the fireplace by the entrance as having a “nice atmosphere,” we were unable to sustain that comfort through to the end of your stay, which is truly regrettable. Taking your valuable feedback as our guidepost, we will immediately work on reinforcing our cleaning standards and making fundamental improvements to our cuisine. This is an immodest request, but if someday you would give us another opportunity to welcome you back so that we may show you Oyado Mori no Ne anew, nothing would make us happier. We are truly sorry.

  Solo travel

  No matter when I stayed, I was able to relax. This Accommodation is perfect for solo travelers. Since the meals change every three months, I will visit again in June.

  Relax by the wood-burning fireplace

  The wood-burning fireplace was incredibly soothing, and the scent of the wood was unforgettable. If possible—though I know it may be difficult—I would have loved for the fire to be kept going a bit later. As for the baths, only one side has an open-air bath, and I also wished bathing hours were extended a little later into the night. Despite having 14 rooms, the timing and consideration were excellent, allowing for a quiet stay. The complimentary coffee drink service was delicious. The meals were outstanding in both quality and portion size. I also truly appreciated the thoughtful birthday gesture. I would definitely love to visit again.

  There is a campfire ...

  There is a campfire right by the entrance, where you can enjoy a beer while watching the flickering flames and snowy scenery. The bath temperature was just right, and both dinner and breakfast offered a story-like dining experience—making this Accommodation truly relaxing. The hospitality was excellent as well, and we will definitely return.
