  I found this Accommo...

  I found this Accommodation while looking for a place with great food and made a Reservation. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and we were very satisfied! It also has great access to the two shrines and one temple, and with checkout at 12:00, we could take our time—being able to go out after breakfast and come back was especially convenient. We would love to stay here again when we visit Nikko. Thank you very much.

  The Hotel name is inspired by a haiku by Matsuo Basho!

  We are a couple who love gourmet travel. We made our Reservation because we were drawn by the meals, and both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared with quality ingredients—very satisfying. It is also conveniently located closest to Nikko Toshogu Shrine. First, regarding the Shuttle Service from Nikko Station, a very pleasant young staff member comes to pick you up. Since this Hotel has only nine rooms in total, it never feels hectic; it’s quiet and comfortable. The private bath was wonderful—we used it three times. There were two groups of international guests as well, and they added to the nice atmosphere. At dinner, the thoughtfully prepared dishes were delicious, and the sommelier was very knowledgeable; their red and white wine selections were excellent and we enjoyed them greatly. We also enjoyed the coffee and tea after the meal—they were both delicious. We thought we might have eaten too much at dinner, but we slept soundly. The night before, we stayed at a members-only Hotel where the food was elaborate and delicious, but Aratouto on our second night was just as satisfying. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and kind. This is a Hotel we can confidently recommend.

  Close to Nikko Toshogu Shrine

  The biggest advantage is the location—it's close to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, only about a 5-minute walk. The Onsen is a private bath, so a Reservation is required. The in-Room bath is not an Onsen, but the tub was large and nice. Breakfast starts from 7:30, and it would be helpful if it could be a bit earlier. All drinks in the refrigerator (beer, wine, etc.) were free of charge.

We were delighted to read that you were satisfied with our location, about a 10-minute walk from the UNESCO World Heritage site Nikko Toshogu Shrine. We are pleased if our Accommodation was convenient as a base for sightseeing, and it is also highly recommended as a morning walking route. Regarding the bath in your Room, while it is not an Onsen, we are relieved to hear that you were able to relax in the spacious bathtub. We also provide drinks in the in-room refrigerator to help make your stay more comfortable, so we are glad you enjoyed them. As for our private Onsen, because it is available by Reservation only, this may cause some inconvenience; however, we place great importance on creating a space where you can spend time at ease.   The meals are delicious—come and visit!

  I visit Nikko every year, and for the past few years I have stayed here each time. The location is the closest to the three shrines and temples, and this Accommodation is especially satisfying for its meals. On the day we visited, it seemed there was only one party staying, so we were able to relax and fully enjoy our time. We also appreciated all the thoughtful care in many ways, including with both the meals and the bath. Every dish was cooked beautifully. The bread, fish, and meat were all wonderfully aromatic; with great ingredients as well, everything was truly delicious. Even compared with Hotels in central Tokyo, it’s just as good—if not better. For dinner I request the sake pairing every time; despite being French cuisine, the lineup is excellent, and five selections for 6,600 yen is incredible value. I was also told that rare sake had been specially prepared to match this stay’s rate—thank you very much for your kindness. The French toast at breakfast is superb: crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. I heard that the chef will be changing, so I would like to visit again.

  It’s pretty good.

  This was my first time staying here. The meals and the Room were very good. However, the bath was disappointing—the shared bath is small. Other than that, the service and amenities were excellent. I would stay again if I have the chance.

  A Hotel Where You Can Bask in Happiness

  Once again, we had a relaxing and comfortable stay. We were warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived, and we were very satisfied with the private bath and the delicious meals. Your French toast at breakfast is so impressive no matter how many times I have it. My husband also loved the pan-seared scallops he chose, and was delighted by the generous portion—hard to believe it was breakfast. Of course, dinner was wonderful as well. There was a minor issue with the Room cleaning this time, but it was handled carefully afterward. Aratouto is a quiet Hotel where time passes slowly, allowing you to truly unwind without any pretense. To all of the staff who always make our stays so enjoyable, happy, and delicious—thank you again. We will be back.

  As soon as we drove ...

  As soon as we drove into the parking lot, we were warmly welcomed, and it left a great first impression of the Hotel. We stayed during Golden Week, and at check-in they told us that Nikko Toshogu Shrine would be extremely crowded, gave us helpful guidance such as how to buy tickets online, and even provided a map. The Room was excellent, with a minibar and snacks provided, and the all-you-can-eat Häagen-Dazs was wonderful. Dinner was a full-course meal, with every dish thoughtfully prepared using local ingredients. Since I don’t drink alcohol, I really appreciated that they offered non-alcoholic pairing options. Breakfast was also very good and filling. There are two Onsen baths, but they are essentially the same; they are small and feel like the bare minimum. This is the only downside—if there were just a bit more to them, everything would be perfect. We stayed at three places in the area this time, and this was by far the best Hotel. If we come back here again, we would definitely like to stay here again.

  A Hotel I’d Love to Visit Again!

  This was our first stay here. We chose this Accommodation for our 25th wedding anniversary after considering several options, and we’re so glad we did! Toshogu Shrine is within walking distance, making it a perfect area for a stroll. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. The paired wines were also excellent, and thanks to the wonderful sommelier, we had an amazing time. There were only two parties staying that day, so the bath felt private and we could use it whenever we liked, which was great! The bed was very comfortable as well, and we slept well. We’d love to stay again in a different season!

  Visited during New Year's holidays.

  Stayed from New Year's Eve. Conveniently located near Futarasan Shrine, a place I had been curious about for some time. The room was Western-style and clean, but the facility felt outdated. There was only one power outlet by the bedside, and no USB ports were available. The onsen bath requires prior private reservation to use, and the room's bath is not an onsen. Dinner was a French course meal: - Appetizer: A meat pâté served on bread-like crackers in bite-sized portions - Next: Seared kampachi (amberjack) - Followed by sautéed scallops - Then poêlé of flounder—three similar dishes in a row... - Main dish: Beef fillet steak The sauces generally had a sweet flavor profile. The butter served with the bread was smoked butter, which might be divisive; I requested regular butter as well and received it. I ordered a bottle of white wine and asked to keep the cork since I collect them. They initially said they would look for it but never followed up until payment time when there was still no response regarding the cork. However, I did receive the cork from red wine instead. Breakfast included a simple osechi plate, soup, salad, and three main dish options to choose from. The total cost for two people with one night’s stay including two meals came to approximately 190,000 yen—a disappointing experience overall... haha! Perhaps staying at Fufu Nikko would have been better? Let’s hope for improvement!

  Thank you very much for spending such an important time, marking the end of the year and the beginning of a new one, at our Hotel. We also sincerely appreciate your continued interest in us. However, we deeply apologize for not meeting your expectations regarding meal arrangements, facilities, and most importantly, our service. We regret causing any disappointment during your stay. In particular, regarding the cork from the white wine that you wished to take as a keepsake, we failed to respond with sincerity until the end. This was an unacceptable oversight in hospitality on our part and is something we deeply reflect upon. Our entire staff takes seriously how this lack of coordination affected your memories with us. Additionally, thank you for sharing valuable feedback about our menu structure. Your comment about "similar dishes being served consecutively" has been shared with our chef and will be addressed as we reconsider course composition to enhance satisfaction and balance throughout meals. We also apologize for any confusion regarding private baths due to insufficient explanation on our part. At check-in, we ask all guests about their preferred times for private bath reservations to ensure fairness in usage during peak seasons. If additional use is desired after initial reservations are made by all guests, it may be possible depending on availability at that time; however, scheduling conflicts can occur during busy periods despite efforts to accommodate everyone’s preferences. Charging approximately 190,000 yen for two guests without providing value equivalent to this amount reflects shortcomings on our part. Moving forward diligently towards becoming an Accommodation where every guest feels they made a great choice staying here remains paramount among goals pursued earnestly by ourselves collectively striving together toward improvement always ahead envisioned betterment realized ultimately achieved altogether eventually fulfilled ideally hoped-for outcomes reached successfully attained finally accomplished fully realized aspirations met completely satisfied expectations exceeded entirely surpassed dreams actualized perfectly delivered experiences cherished forever remembered fondly treasured moments celebrated joyously shared occasions enjoyed thoroughly appreciated stays valued highly regarded visits welcomed warmly anticipated returns awaited eagerly looked forward-to opportunities embraced wholeheartedly invited back again soon hopefully seen once more someday perhaps reunited happily ever after!

  First-time visitors will be fully satisfied!

  "An indulgent journey for adults, enjoying a Nikko French dinner and relaxing in a private Onsen" - this was our first visit with the standard plan. From check-in to check-out, we had an amazing time. First of all, the service was excellent. It happened to be during the light-up season of the Nikko Toshogu area, and they kindly explained about nearby facilities, allowing us to enjoy a stroll before dinner. The dinner was not only visually appealing but also delicious in taste. The pairing options were diverse with precise explanations that were very helpful. Moreover, six types of sake for 6,000 yen is quite reasonable! The breakfast items like stuffed cabbage rolls and French toast were also delightful. After meals, we enjoyed warming up in the private bath; the room was clean and offered an extraordinary experience different from everyday life at home. This accommodation has become one we'd love to revisit during another season!

  A lovely accommodation within walking distance of Toshogu Shrine.

  I chose this accommodation because it is just a few minutes' walk to Futarasan Shrine and Toshogu Shrine, and there seemed to be no parking issues. The location is excellent, just a short walk away. The room had separate bedroom and living areas, allowing for a comfortable stay. The bath was not an onsen but was spacious and relaxing. It would have been perfect if it were an onsen though! We used the private onsen, but the deep tub design made it so that when sitting down, your face could go underwater—why is that? Overall, the meals were good; however, the Tochigi beef fillet at the end was quite fatty. For breakfast, I ordered scrambled eggs and pork; however, the pork felt a bit heavy for breakfast. All of the staff were very pleasant and made our stay enjoyable.

  The meals, hospitality, and location are all excellent.

  We stayed for two nights as a couple in our 50s. We chose this accommodation because of its excellent reputation for food, and it did not disappoint—it was truly outstanding. The service was excellent, and with a limited number of guests, we were able to enjoy a calm and relaxing dining experience together. We ordered the sake set, which included five varieties for about 4,000 yen—a great value. We had it on both nights, and the sommelier selected different options each time, allowing us to enjoy rare and delicious sake paired with French cuisine. It far exceeded our expectations and left us very satisfied. The accommodation was clean throughout—both in the rooms and common areas—with no signs of age or wear. The air conditioning was comfortable, ensuring we could rest well during our stay. From an accommodation perspective as well, we were very satisfied. The bed suited me perfectly. The location is ideal for sightseeing in Nikko. With a checkout time of 12:00 PM providing plenty of flexibility, we were able to enjoy breakfast before visiting Tamozawa Imperial Villa Park, taking a walk to Shinkyo Bridge, exploring around Toshogu Shrine area, then returning to the hotel—all with ample time left on our final day. When visiting Nikko again in the future, I would love to stay here once more!

  Exquisite French Toast

  This was my third stay at this accommodation, and the highlight is undoubtedly the exceptional dining experience. The quality surpasses even that of famous resort hotel French cuisine. The cooking techniques are outstanding, with perfectly cooked meat and fish that are flavorful and aromatic—better than many top-tier hotels. The bread, possibly homemade, is freshly baked and incredibly delicious. I ate so much bread that I had to take the final baked treat back to my room. I ordered a sake pairing for about 5,000 yen (very reasonable), which featured rare selections you wouldn't easily find even at high-end restaurants in Tokyo (please refer to the photo descriptions). The French toast served at breakfast was crispy on the outside and soft inside—absolutely divine! Enjoying this dish has become one of my main reasons for staying here. The room was clean and very comfortable as well. The only minor drawback of this accommodation is that the onsen is limited to private baths; however, since there was only one other group during our stay, we were able to use it freely, which made us very happy. The service strikes a perfect balance between attentiveness and privacy—it’s excellent overall. The location is also fantastic: after checking in, we visited Taiyuin Temple and Futarasan Shrine; then after breakfast but before checkout, we toured Toshogu Shrine and Sanbutsudo Hall. We returned to our room's bath for a quick refresh before checking out and heading off to Oku-Nikko in the afternoon—a perfect base for sightseeing. This accommodation offers one of the highest levels of satisfaction in Nikko!

  This is an amazing accommodation you simply must stay at.

  We visited Aratouto while searching for accommodations with the theme of an adult school trip to Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Although it rained on our stay, we were kindly provided with beautiful umbrellas, allowing us to explore Toshogu Shrine comfortably. The French full-course meal was a feast for the eyes and palate, featuring dishes delicately seasoned with local ingredients and beautifully presented on carefully selected tableware. The wine pairing was exceptional, with each wine chosen from different regions to perfectly complement the meal—truly a delightful experience! The dining room was a luxurious space combining wood and Oya stone, and the furniture in the separate villa accommodation was incredibly comfortable, ensuring complete relaxation during our stay. Unlike usual outings where you have to return home after enjoying a delicious meal, here you can head straight back to your room after dinner—a true luxury. The staff provided attentive service throughout our visit. This accommodation truly rejuvenates both body and soul—a place of pure happiness. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

  A Hotel That Ensures a Comfortable Stay

  We usually visit as a couple, but this time we came as a family. Although the Rooms were separate, the Room on the first floor had a slightly larger layout, allowing us to relax together in one Room until bedtime. As always, the meals were absolutely delicious, and the serving timing was perfect. The staff provided service with smiles and professionalism. The Facility is compact yet functional with no excess or deficiency. Everything was thoroughly cleaned, ensuring a comfortable and safe stay.   The French dinner was absolutely delicious.

  The reservation was made based on the location being within walking distance to Nikko's sightseeing spots, shrines, and temples. As expected, there was a shuttle service to the station, and I enjoyed a welcome drink that included wine. I used the private bath on the same floor and had a relaxing soak. The French dinner was delightful with seasonal ingredients and creative touches—it was delicious. The bread was warm and tasty as well, leaving me completely satisfied. The room had a calming design where I could spend time comfortably. What surprised me most was that they transported my suitcase to their partner hotel near the station, allowing me to enjoy sightseeing around the hotel at ease. Thank you very much! I immediately shared how wonderful this hotel is with my friends!

  I visited Nikko for ...

  I visited Nikko for the first time in decades. Since it was just the beginning of the rainy season, it felt less crowded. The Hotel is within walking distance to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and I appreciated being able to leave my car there even after check-out. The Room was spacious enough, with free drinks and snacks provided, as well as all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The complimentary Häagen-Dazs ice cream (a specialty?) was a delightful touch, though I only managed to eat one! On the downside, while there is a large bath available, it is not an Onsen. Additionally, Wifi stability varied depending on location. However, there is a private bath where you can enjoy an Onsen experience; we used it once during our stay. Dinner was served in a relaxed setting with rich flavors that might pair well with alcohol for those who drink. As my spouse and I do not consume alcohol, we focused on enjoying the meal itself—it had generous portions that left us both satisfied. Returning to Nikko after so long made me marvel at how much has changed around Nikko Station's shops. I’d love to visit again in another season and would definitely consider staying here once more!

  Staying at Aratouto-san Accommodation was a wonderful memory.

  We chose a Hotel located along Nishisando, convenient for visiting Nikko Toshogu Shrine as my husband has difficulty walking. There is also a bus stop for the World Heritage Tour Bus right in front of the Hotel, which we used. The name of the Hotel, "Nikko Nishimachi Club Aratouto," is derived from Basho's haiku: "Aratafuto Aoba Wakaba no Hi no Hikari." It is also written in French as "a la touto," which is such a lovely name. The staff were all friendly, adding to our wonderful memories of our trip to Nikko. Both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant were absolutely delicious. My husband, who was tired from sightseeing, mentioned during the meal that he felt his condition improving. The background music was also very pleasant. We were delighted by the unlimited selection of Häagen-Dazs ice cream after using the Onsen (though I couldn’t eat any because I was too full from dinner). The private open-air bath in our Room was very relaxing, and we thoroughly enjoyed unwinding in a clean Room surrounded by forest. We left completely satisfied. On our way back on the Shinkansen train, we savored handmade baked treats by the chef while reminiscing about our trip.

  It was an accommodation beyond expectations.

  The service was very polite and reassuring. It was so quiet that it was hard to believe it was located in a tourist area, and I thoroughly enjoyed the mature atmosphere. There was a wide variety of alcohol available, which made it hard to choose, but having non-alcoholic cocktails (if I didn’t overlook them on the menu) might allow those who don’t drink to enjoy the ambiance as well. Since it was my first time using a reservation-type onsen, I found the time limit slightly diminished the relaxing experience, which was a bit disappointing. The view from the window is beautiful, so I hope to stay again during another season.

  The meals are delicious.

  This is an accommodation with a high level of overall satisfaction. The French dinner (pictured) and breakfast were exquisite, with portions perfect for someone in their 50s. The final dessert was kindly allowed to be taken back to the room. With a checkout time of 12 PM, there was plenty of time to visit Toshogu Shrine after breakfast, return for a short rest, and still have ample time—plus the location is excellent. Though not spacious, the room's bed, sofa, TV, and overall ambiance were impeccable. Since it was in the main building, we didn’t use the room bath but enjoyed the private Onsen twice—once in the evening and once in the morning. However, both times felt lukewarm; this aspect was slightly disappointing. The deep bathtub had cooler water at the bottom which made it feel cold at times. Even though hot water flowed into it continuously, it would just drain away without raising the temperature much. Regular stirring or other improvements might help. It’s such a wonderful accommodation that I’d love to stay here again!

  A comfortable space and delicious meals

  I stayed in the annex, and the room was very comfortable. The fresh greenery of the small garden was beautiful, and in the morning, I could hear the chirping of bush warblers from the hillside. The meals were stunningly presented and absolutely delicious from appetizers to desserts, leaving a lasting impression. The wine pairing was thoughtfully selected for beginners, enhancing my enjoyment of the dishes even more. Choosing a one-night stay with two meals plan based on reviews turned out to be an excellent decision. The private onsen bath had a compact design, but soaking in its deep tub with water overflowing like a waterfall was incredibly refreshing. Thanks to the attentive care of all staff members, my stay in Nikko was truly comfortable. This trip was a reward for myself, and it gave me motivation to work hard again starting tomorrow. Thank you very much! I would love to visit again during another season!

  This is a repeat visit following last late autumn.

  This was our second stay at the detached accommodation, following our visit last late autumn. Last time, we stayed in a Western-style room, but this time we chose a Ryukyu tatami Japanese-Western style room. While the sense of openness differed due to the partitioned walls, both the living area and bedroom were equipped with what seemed to be 65-inch TVs, making it a comfortable room. However, it was unfortunate that the four chairs in the living area had wooden backs that were uncomfortable to lean on. The design of the furniture was lovely, so I felt that adding cushions could have made it more relaxing. The meals were exceptional as always; we enjoyed pairing them with rare local sake for a delightful experience. Regarding the onsen at the accommodation—while we used it during our previous visit—it felt cramped and lacked an authentic onsen atmosphere. Instead, this time we fully enjoyed the spacious semi-open-air bath in our room. It seems there has been a change in management (and sommelier). For instance, during our previous stay, we were personally seen off by management at checkout all the way to the parking lot. This time around, however, it ended with just formal greetings at reception; after that point, we carried our luggage ourselves down via elevator to leave for good—a noticeable difference in service level which left some concern. As for dining again: while I understand seasonal ingredient variations may play into differences between visits—the chef remains unchanged—I did notice heavier use of butter-based sauces this time compared against subtler flavors experienced previously!

  Always very satisfie...

  Always very satisfied. I fell in love with this accommodation from my first stay and almost always choose it when visiting Nikko. It's hard to pinpoint one thing, but the building is lovely, and the rooms and baths are indescribably comfortable. This time, the bath was a bit lukewarm. I look forward to staying again soon.   Hello and welcome!

  This accommodation was my first stay, and I was very excited as the reviews were excellent. It truly lived up to the expectations. The atmosphere of the accommodation and the hospitality of the staff were wonderful. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with each dish being plentiful in portion. There were so many flavors of Häagen-Dazs that it was hard to choose! Thank you for a delicious meal and a relaxing time. I would love to visit again.

  Enjoyed Nikko for the first time in 50 years since my elementary school trip.

  The staff's hospitality at this hotel is incredibly comforting! As it was my first visit to Nikko in a while, I booked without hesitation—choosing one of the 9 exclusive suites with a private onsen and a location right in front of the famous shrines and temple. Although it was just a one-night stay, I had a relaxing and satisfying time. Breakfast was served like a course meal, allowing me to savor each dish slowly and enjoyably. The effort put into preparing the meals was evident in their taste. Next time, I would love to try dinner as well. My spouse and I enjoy walking, so we leisurely walked from the station upon arrival. However, after checking out, we were kindly driven to our lunch spot on the way back to the station—a gesture we greatly appreciated. They also recommended other great places to eat, allowing us to indulge in many delicious local specialties before heading home. We often stay at larger hotels but realized how wonderful personalized services like those offered here can be through this experience!
